The fated day is upon us, the new lore criteria is here. This can be found here. If you have any questions about the new criteria, we have also set up a new FAQ thread for asking specific questions regarding it, found here. The Games officially start on Friday (8/2), giving you a few days to look over everything and figure out your plan of action. As a result of the Lore Games, a few restrictions are being put into place on lore submissions and lore applications, you can read about it here.

The Games

Any magic and CA creature (minus ologs, kha, and hou-zi) will require a rewrite under the Lore Games. The games themselves will follow the same timeframe as the one that was shown on an earlier thread, shown here in the spoiler:

Spoiler

 Timeline

  • Everyone will be given 2.5 months (10 weeks) to finish a draft of their lore. You can finish sooner, but it needs to be turned in at some point before those 2.5 months are done (process for this is described in the section below).

    • From here, the lore will be reviewed by Story to ensure that the criteria is met and will be given back in roughly a month (we’ll be dividing lore up into chunks so we can review it without getting overwhelmed).

  • Once your group is given back your lore with notes on what is wrong/right, you will have 1 month to make the edits.

    • A final reviewal process will occur and if the edits were not made or were not done appropriately, the lore will be shelved.

  • After your lore is approved, you will be required to write up a guide for it (assuming it is a magic or CA race). 1 month will be given for this to be complete.

In addition, any previously accepted pet/companion creature will need to be resubmitted under the new criteria. This includes anything that’s been on the index, such as demigryphs or morko bears. You have 1 month to resubmit this. After 1 month, any creatures not resubmitted will be wiped. Any that fail to pass the review will also get wiped.

Award Categories:

  • Expansive Award. This will be awarded to the piece that makes the most out of what it has, expanding beyond what it was originally.

  • Origin Story Award. This will be awarded to the piece with the most creative/entertaining origin/backstory section.

  • Creative Creature Award. This will be awarded to the top 3 index creatures, rating them by how creative it is and how much the creature adds to the server.

  • Outstanding Behavior Award. This will be awarded to groups that are capable of behaving themselves during the lore games and work seamlessly with Story members.

  • Big Brain Award. This will be awarded to individuals who are seen contributing a lot to their respective rewrites.

Prizes for winning these awards will be given to the entire group and will consist of minas, unique RP items, and more! If you wish to turn in a draft for the Lore Games, you will need to be apart of the discord. This is to ensure any piece that you are submitting has a chance to be looked at by the lore’s playergroup and doesn’t just blindside them. Keep in mind that if multiple submissions are put in for the same piece, it will boil down to a vote within the community and Story (assuming all are good enough to pass the new criteria).

What Took You So Long?!

So as you can see from the criteria, there’s quite a few threads written up that have been adapted and altered from existing criteria + a fair bit of new stuff added. This is why it took so long. I’ve had most of this done for a few weeks, but I also wanted to get as much feedback as I could from staff members that were interested. The feedback took some time as having people accurately assess 30+ threads takes time. I probably could have made an update thread and I’ll try and do that more in the future, apologies for the wait!

Purpose of the Lore Games

The purpose behind the Lore Games is to rip off the band-aid and go through all playable lore at once with a new criteria in hand. We have dozens upon dozens of lore pieces that are in desperate need of updating. With it being updated we achieve a few things in regards to the system:

  1. The proper implementation of “If it’s not written, it’s not allowed” and “No loopholing”. All updated lore pieces should have everything clearly laid out so everyone is on the same page to what the lore piece can do. If it’s not written on the lore piece or approved guide, it will not be viable. This allows for #2.

  2. The implementation of a proper blacklist overhaul. A lot of people get away with things at the moment because of vague lore, so when everything is defined, we will be able to start cleaning out the players who utilize lore improperly or maliciously. No longer will people be able to loophole or abuse vague lore however which way they please.

  3. The streamlining of TAs. With everything written down, TAs can be streamlined and done in a much faster capacity, no longer reliant on specialists.

It also allows for a few different things on the lore front:

  1. Promoting creativity. With the separation of combative and non-combative abilities, we can urge people to pursue more out of the box ideas with their non-combative ideas.

  2. Promoting better lore submissions. With all of the criteria laid out for the community, people can more easily create lore that follows what Story is looking for.

Flamboyant’s Plea

Something that frustrates me, and a number of other lore enthusiasts, is the fact that lore has so much potential, but it’s held back by a variety of issues. A lot of what we see these days are people trying to create super weapons through enchantments or try and min-max their character by picking all of the magic’s that are apart of the current meta. The fact that people use it as a crutch to try and be the most powerful character is a large part of what kills lore, as a lot of the more creative pieces that would create interesting RP outside of conflict are left by the wayside. And since people go for the magics that are apart of the meta, they are left bored outside of conflict as they are unable to do anything interesting themselves with the magics they have.

So this is a plea to the lore writers of the community. Are you afraid of branching your lore out due to the threat of shelving or being denied? I’m urging you to go and read this deal I am extending to the lore community if that’s the case: click me.
