Name of Nation:

The Gallian Trade League

Type of Government:

Plutarchy

History/Culture:

Gallian’s have always had a knack for making a quick piece of gold wherever they could during the great war, their main export obviously being weapons and artillery pieces. Assuredly millions had most likely died by a Gallian made tool of war. It was during this time period they assured their neutrality and only took action to defend their trade lanes occasionally engaging with the growing pirate threats. However come towards the end of the war the league had practically a token guard force and fleet to just watch over its borders.

A big component to this was the rush for Vitramite, much of the funding that the guard had was sent to discover new uses of this wonderful green material and how to profit off of it. Quickly new technologies of flight were rushed and much of the rich rose to prominence being able to sell their new found resource for the highest bidder. It was not long before those industries that once required nothing more then a man and his horse were based around ships that could outpace both and carry more.

Name of Nation:

Empire of Syullin

LvYMHO7.png

Type of Government:

Absolute Monarchy

History/Culture:

The Empire of Syullin was founded by the surviving expeditionary force that got stranded over fifty years ago, when their experimental prototype of airship suffered multiple engine failures. To this day, it is not known whether it was sabotage or the technology that has given in. Needless to say, the ship plummeted to the ground, crashing down in an early morning mist in lands unknown. Far from home with no way back, the survivors, scientists, soldiers and their families who originally anticipated a long-term research mission of potential new shores decided to settle down. But as it is with mankind, where you go, others come before you.

They were not alone, and soon they established contact with the native populace, numerous, yet comparably underdeveloped and uneducated in terms of technology. It was a tenous peace as the old order was seen disturbed by the outsiders and the code of honor of the natives demanded balance. The first attacks came soon, but the outnumbered survivors had the best, the pre-Great-War-World had to offer. Aside from firepower, soon illnesses spread, as diseases unknown to the natives became rampant amongst their populace. In a stroke of genius, the leader, Marshal Gregor Oldbarrow offered the natives a trade.

To all who would bow to them, moreso unite with them, they would provide medical care to the best of their abilities. Those who refused... were left to succumb to the unknown plagues from the Old World. And if any still survived, they were either conquered and assimilated into their more willing brethren or they already joined willingly themselves. And so, using nothing but the course of nature and modern science, the expedition survivors began forging together the vast tribes and clans in the region, small “feudal” holdings.

In the coming years, they accepted and integrated the very nature and culture of the natives into their daily lives as leaders, in turn modernizing and educating the masses of eager citizens they had gained, some by sheer impression of godhood, which would continue to establish itself in a certain sense of fanaticism, others by simple curiosity.

Fifty years later, the Empire of Syullin had reached a good degree of stability and size. Inhabitated by millions now, the rapid expansion slowed down, infrastructure has been erected by sheer force of will (and manpower aplenty), and the former “servants” have now become integral part of the government, even moreso leaders of this Empire. Forged by foreign forces, it had yet to be tempered by the very same, because at the very heart the 89 year old Emperor Oldbarrow knew, that the Old World hadn’t forgotten about them.

Name of Nation: Westerfield Confederacy

Type of Government: Confederacy

History/Culture: The history of this sad land is a quick and volatile one. Tucked away in the rolling planes and desert of the South-West, it is a desolate land. One where few have ever tried to live. The land is mainly home to the roaming tribes and nomads of the deep South. Few live on the edges of this great grass ocean, but none have dared to delve right in. But in a testament to human industrialization, this was fast changing. More and more these vast swathes of open land were being looked at with ambition, not fear.

And this is how the early years of Westerfield begin to take shape. This was a lawless land to begin with, one of rampant violence and failed fortunes. People came in trickles at first, then more and more steadily. Ranches and Plantations were set up in the vast range of prairie. There was so much land neighbors could be measured miles apart. Towns sprung up on the routes leading ever inward to this open land. As more people came to this land, so too did big business. Rail-lines were forged as arteries for the cities fast growing. Enterprise, mining, it all starts to pour in.

Over the course of a century this land has been growing in fits and starts as technology allowed living here to be more feasible. However this was a fractured land of dozens of cultures and languages. A place where many from across the world saw opportunity and took it. The scattered companies and towns running Westerfield did not discriminate. Any was welcome, and there was always room for more. As time went on each generation of immigrants formed their own power blocs and homesteads. The growing shape of this land was one of inclusiveness, any were welcome to settle.

This melting pot of civilization was what was thrust into the 1800’s. A wild land, bursting with potential and energy. Where one could buy a pistol for cheaper then a meal and board. As the modern era was truly reached, Westerfield was becoming more then a blistering mass of humanity. It was taking shape into an actual group of people, as different as they are. The land and work had brought them all together, and their welcoming arms always allowed more to come. The various families, big business, forts, homesteads, all the various factions, were more and more linked.

And so this fledgling land enters the jaws of the Great War. A time of great woe and death for the people of Westerfield. Hundreds of thousands of people were conscripted by various nations. Nations who sent vast recruiting fleets, tearing the people from their homesteads and ranches. With no official Government, the people fleeing from all over the world brought the world with them. As the Great War progresses, more and more people call for more action. Always quick to oppose “centralization” the different factions are slow to embrace this.

But as the War rages on, the need for action is confirmed. And this is where the official Westerfield Confederacy is born. From the fires and ambition of the Great War, a multi-cultural Confederacy of people’s on the frontier of the modern world take a stand. Westerfield joined the Anaraein Confederacy, and saw the war through until its end. After the war the people of the land were changed forever.

The need for some form of Government is immediately agreed as a need. Westerfield continues to reform it’s Confederacy. More and more choices are made on a national level, by all the different states.

Starting Points:

Size: 6

Army/Navy: 5

Aviation: 0

Industry: 1

Economy: 10

Education: 6

Development: 2

Notable Characters:

Levander Bixby; President of the Confederation, and a private owner of hundreds of cattle farms across the prairie. His interest have always been staked in the land and it’s people. Always known to help out, and even be seen working side by side with people who don’t even speak his language. Mr. Bixby was the obvious choice for most to lead their Confederacy. He was voted in as the first issue voted upon when the Confederacy was formed during the Great War. He has led ever since.

Joe Brayden; A veteran of the Great War, victim to one of the vast recruiting fleets sent to Westerfield. He served since almost the very start for the Free Provinces. Rising in the ranks for years, he was renown for always leading from the front. His birthing from the blister that was the Southern Prairie always kept him conscript status. But time after time he would pull his men [and others] out of the fires of war. Eventually he was given command of a special operations unit, renown for fighting in the depths of night. Joe was on the wrong side though when the Westerfield Confederacy formed, and declared war on the Free Provinces.

But Joe was stuck in the armies, and could hardly escape. And so for the next few years he was forced to fight a land that he loved dearly. Many times it was the throats of Westerfield conscripts he had to slit. Many did not forget his deeds, but many more forgave him. For after the war he returned to Westerfield. Ever since he has honorably served the President, who saw his talent. Brayden lives a sad life, but serves the Confederacy with his talents.

More to come in Rp!

National Idea: “Armed Populace”

2 AP per Building / +.5% Manpower

Unique Units:

“Barrenpoint Rangers” [Unique Mechanized Infantry] ; The impromptu policing force of the Confederacy as a whole. These hardened men are born into the saddle so to speak. They were superb cavalrymen, trained to fight on both horse and foot in the old days. They instead have traded their horses in for Armored Fighting Vehicles. They have mastered the art of fighting as elite mechanized infantry. Used to deploying right into fights, and winning.

Their name is earned from the town most devastated by the Great War recruiting fleets.

”Westerfield Gunslingers” [Elite Infantry] ; The iconic troops of the Confederacy, resplendent in crisp uniforms. These men are used to killing, and many have served abroad as mercenaries. Now they have all gathered back to the Confederacies call. They are elite infantry used to the crucible of modern combat. But they can also serve as small groups or individuals. They are used to help police, and hunt down outlaws.

These troops the backbone of the Confederate army. They are meant to be used to decisively win victories on the front with lightning fast attacks.

“Terex Class Battle-Carriers” [Unique Battlecruiser] ; The back-bone of Westerfields fledgling but adept navy. This ship is designed for expertise in raiding and mobile warfare. The Terex Battle-Carriers are a redesigned and revolutionary take on the common Battlecruiser. These ships while able to still move fast and serve in the line, also have the capability to deploy fighters and bombers. While full of planes the ship is relatively slow for a Battlecruiser. But empty ones can travel very fast for its class.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Aurelian Republic is defined by the Revolution which spawned it seven years ago. Propelled by the insurmountable will of the people, the old and odious rule of the absolutist monarchy was overthrown; yet it required five years of bloody civil war for the nation to realize it. The Battle of the Tuileries, March 2nd 1892, put an end to that conflict, and in the preceding months the country has began to realize a new prosperity under the rule of the Assembly and its President, Francois Cornielle. It is a prosperity measured in freedom; in the previous decade, the citizenry had no rights to speak of. Subject to any manner of abuse or hardship from their local lords, the wealth of the country siphoned almost in its entirety. Yet now, though that same wealth is drastically reduced thanks to years of turmoil, the common man has endured a new birth of freedom; freedom from oppression, from the seizure of his property, impressment into the military, freedom of expression and religion...The Revolution has been radical in a number of key respects. The founding document of the Assembly, the "Declaration of the People", calls for a nation predicated upon serving the people; the death of tyranny in favor of representative government, enshrining inalienable rights to speech, religion and property. The ensuing feverish purging of Aurelian society, amidst the chaos of civil war, was bloody indeed; for such dreams were radical for a society built upon the oppression of the impoverished multitude. No matter; the tumor had been excised, what was a little blood spilt for that great design?

Yet the rise of Admiral Jules Francios Cornielle after his victory proved to be the decisive remedy required. Unassociated with the machinations of the capital's radical political clubs, and furthermore a household name through every corner of the country, he easily secured "election" with the support of the Assembly only weeks after his fleet had annihilated the Royalist opposition. Cornielle's rule is much welcome; though the circumstances of his rise to power are dubious, and his reign is increasingly anti-Democratic, his sweeping moderate reforms and fervent displays of patriotic Republicanism is comforting to a country sick of violence and death, even the radicals drink toasts to the name of Cornielle and his Republic.

Nevertheless, storm clouds loom; or more specifically, one big one. Shock has swept through a country wanting of stability when Aurelian cruisers reported a gigantic, floating city had emerged seemingly from nowhere, not far from the border. The awesome power their great city-ship communicates has lit a frenzied panic in the Corniellian administration. It would appear, the decisive hour did not transpire in the distant, windswept Tuileries Gate for Francois Cornielle... it looms at some unknown point in the future, massive and terrifying, yet painfully unclear. It will require a steady hand to survive it; this next revolution.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTABLE PEOPLE:

President Francois Cornielle: The aforementioned head of state whose powers are extraordinary. Catapulted to power by his popularity, disassociation to politics and success in the civil war, Cornielle gave up his command of the Grand Fleet to lead the country; and has done so under a moderate and pragmatist banner in his two years in office thus far. The approach of the new foreign crisis however, threatens to undo his short reign.

Gaspard D’Easting: The High-Admiral of the Republican Navy, the successor to Cornielle. A veteran of many great battles and well liked by the men he led, D’Easting is both a firebrand leader and a shrewd administrator.

Michel Sucrouf: The most powerful man in the Capital next to Cornielle, and head of the “lame duck Parliament” and its giant pro-Cornielle coalition. Though his parliament may lack real power, Sucrouf controls the capital and is dominant - and necessary - in the ideological-political sphere, keeping the vibrant radical political movement in line.

SIZE - 5

Aurelia is a decently large country, boasting a post-war population of 45 million people. Its people are mostly to be found on the mainland, amidst the lush, grassy fields of the Agros plains under the lee of the Aurelian mountains. Yet all remember a time when the country was larger; before the flight of the nobility, and the massacre of an entire generation of young soldiers - their hearts touched by fire...

ARMY/NAVY - 2

During the Civil War, the Army was huge; it mobilized hundreds of thousands of soldiers in “Revolutionary Guard” units and bled the Assembly’s coffers dry. The army proved to be a haven of corruption, a wicked den of radical politics and organized crime during the war; the geopolitical situation demanding aerial supremacy. In the postwar years, the army was dramatically cut in size to a mere 30,000 men to pay off Aurelia’s war loans; as a result, it is a small and middling force. Plus, who is there left to fight?

AVIATION - 6

The Republican Navy won the war; its experience of five years of aerial campaigns molded it into an elite and professional force. Yet in the peace, it was necessary to mothball a vast portion of the lauded Grand Fleet, its battle-hardened expeditionary force, to rebuild the country. Though the nucleus of a great navy can be found in its naval administration and officer corps, it is not backed up by the airships to show it.

INDUSTRY - 5

Aurelia is a modern country - that is, by the standards of its continent. One of the first countries to industrialize, it has had ample time to develop a virulent civilian industrial complex (especially in the islands, where Vitra is plentiful)

ECONOMY - 5

Aurelian industry is matched by a mature economy, mainly relying on inter-city relations in an otherwise isolated country. The passage of the Constitution in 1889, in building a comprehensive legal system which protects specific and defensible property rights and trade laws, has allowed a virulent local-capitalist system to take root as well - impossible in the era of absolute monarchs who plundered the country of capital and credit at the expense of economic development. It is hampered from greatness by a lack of trade and development.

EDUCATION - 6

A byproduct of the Revolution, one of the Assembly’s first real acts was to orchestrate a complex public schooling system. Fueled by the “Awakening”, the philosophical movement which empowered the rise of the people, every major population center has a large public school paid for by local taxes. Expensive indeed; but it is highly popular for catapulting the literacy of the young generation to heights unimaginable in the previous decade’s ignorance.

DEV - 1

Aurelia may occupy a good chunk of land on the map, yet most of its people are clustered on the mainland’s coastal plains; themselves easily traversable. The high mountains on its border, and more importantly the jagged islands off the coastline, have killed real infrastructure development. Most importantly, the civil war was host to a myriad of scorched earth strategies; nobles trashing their lands before fleeing to the distant mountains to damage the “rebellion”. Now, only a few paved roads between cities can be found; all otherwise is dirt and in the spring, mud. Furthermore, communication is only really reliable between cities and government/military installations.

Starting tech: “WW1 Era”

Bolt action rifles, high-caliber artillery, civilian automotive transport, basic radio/telegraph, pre-dreadnoughts, etc.

National Idea: The Grand Fleet

The civil war was marked by intense and frequent aerial naval engagements; as a result, the Grand Fleet and the Aurelian Navy as a whole is highly experienced, and its officer corps is surely the finest in the known world. Aurelia is a haven of aerial innovation and fighting experience.

[specifics? Bonus to research in aerial tech and doctrine, and inspecific boost to officer “quality”]

National Units:

Revolutionary Guard; Infantry Brigade

“You can never defeat us! We lose 30,000 men a day.” -Ill-fated 2nd President of the Republic, 1891, to a Royalist peace delegation.

[specifics? initial gold cost of recruiting standard infantry brigade significantly decreased]

Fletche-class Light Cruiser

Though high displacement, the Fletche-class cruisers are long-range and extremely fast, built for endurance as the gold standard of her class (at least in “New World” terms); a core element of Aurelian naval doctrine which paid off handsomely in the civil war. The need for a more cost-efficient navy propelled their development, replacing much of the Grand Fleet.

[specifics? more expensive light cruiser with higher base speed, armament, inspecific boost to “endurance”]
