Roleplay:

The Admiralty of the Grand Principality had been left incredibly embarrassed, losing Cumberlands only capital ship and a significant portion of its smaller vessels within the fleet. Admiral Peter McGraw being recalled to the Capital to face a board of inquiry led by the Ministry of Defence, discluding the admiralty and instead being chaired by Winston Townsend the Defence Minister. Henry Lennox is let off due to the blame being put on McGraw, even with the Rear-Admirals connections within the Naval Bureaucracy it was looking like he would be pulled from active service and be reduced to a desk role though maintaining his rank, pay and future pension.

This itself would cause tension within the Principality itself with the Admiralty being blocked from seeing Maximillian himself by the Ministers of State, seeking to overturn the ruling via appealing to the Prince. For now it seems the Statesmen of the Court have won out against the Admiralty, with the Army siding firmly with the Civilian Government on the matter. Within the Admiralty itself the inner factions begin to seek to supplant the aging traditionalists to enact meaningful naval reform. Meanwhile Major-General Pryce continues to earn renown assisting in the wars against the Communists in the neighbouring Confederacy, the Army riding on the new fame and prestige that was being earned planning on petitioning for spending increases.

Maximillian himself is elated as the many Monarchs of the world sent potential suitors right to his palace, many of which were beauties that he found himself enamoured with others not so much. The Prince had a decision to make and the Ministers had to guide him to ensure Cumberland wasn’t tied down in a potentially ruinous pact with a powerful foreign nation, twice during the proceedings the Prince nearly went with the objectively most beautiful of the women from the Klendari, but Chancellor Lancelot and Minister Winston were able to sway him to choose the still beautiful but less risky Princess from Ozan.

One issue commonly noticed and never solved in warfare with the advancement of Airships was a proper way to communicate, forcing Airships to rely on flags and light signals to communicate drastically affecting its communication and cooperation abilities negatively. Beginnings into Research of the Radio (1R, Completion upon 86)

The war draws ever closer, the people of Emmeria worry if it will come onto Emmerian Soil! The Military looks to find a new styled Aeroplane, one capable of delivering precise bombardment upon enemy troops at the expense of speed and agility. (1R Bombers, completion upon 88)

With new technology paving the way for war and defense, government looks more internally. They attempt to research a more effective and efficient way to mine and extract Vitramite (1R, 92)

With the new expansion of territory, a town is established near the newly acquired Vitraium deposits along the railways. Used as a point for possible refugees or those seeking a safe haven from the Free Provinces Genocide. The town is named Sanctuary. (5,550g)

Gwangnan Dominion

At long last a peace has been concluded to a pointless war. Though the communist nations were deplorable, the Empire was in no state for another Great War. Pozharin seemed the same, with their teetering economy. After a Voltesse ambassador cleared the air, the various nations could come to a peace agreement. At long last the IGN could be recalled, and the IGA could try to save face from their humiliation in the war. Already new infantry equipment was pouring in. Modern state of the art pieces such as shovels, bags, etc. The IGA had a long path though if they sought redemption.

In other news a vast quantity of revenue pours into the Clan Yukiko coffers. With the death of Shintani, and strange disappearance of the Emperor, they had complete control. Under the firm grip of Shibata Yukiko, the new age of the Empire is being ushered in. One of vast industry and population, with complete obedience to the state. One where mines and airship yards litter the mountains, churning out hundreds of vessels of war. One where the Industrial age will truly take home, and blossom.

Research

[!] Projects begin into a ship designed to be even greater then a Battlecruiser. One with actual armor, and the ability to lead entire fleets of ships. This ‘Dreadnought’ will become the premier Imperial ship. Capital Ships designed to inspire fear, and destroy lesser ships with it’s massive guns. [8,400 Gold invested into Dreadnought Research.] [10 Education!]

Passive Research /  [!] = Responses needed.

1; Studying the 25 Inch Ground to Air Batteries in the PoI [Finished ‘87]

Scientist work with military minds, both hired from the rising ‘Yasuda Big Arms Manufactory’. This company had gladly seized the offered contract to study and learn from these guns. Under strict orders to not dismantle them, the going is slow. The Company itself is trying to specialize it’s work in guns for the Navy. This 25 Inch Canonry though ground based, was a worthy start.

2; Battlecruisers [Finished ‘87]

The cherry on top of the IGN’s work. Engineers, many retired from service in the Combat ranks, assemble to asses these new turbines. With the added gold, the funding helps. The goal is to make a turbine that easily be retrofitted into the IGN fleet.

[!] 3; Gas Mask [Just Started in 85]

With such an effective way to kill and blister, the Empire finds it affects their troops just as much. With simple designs, they seek to make a mask capable of combating their own gas. One that can be reliable and mass produced for the IGA/IGN

VENZEATIC LEAGUE

1885

“Lord-Speaker, Honoured Members of Signoria. Thirteen years ago, our world was plunged into a war the like of which had not been seen in all the history of mankind. Our fair isles and our vaunted cities were laid bare and barren by bombs and by bullets. Our people slaved in factories and yards for the vicious empire, and were given no better treatment by the iron rain of shells and ordnance from their enemy. We died in our homes and streets as much as we died on foreign fields, in foreign skies, and foreign seas.”

“It was a conflict brought upon us by Empire, a conflict that was forced upon us just as the Pozharin flag was. It was a conflict brought upon us by men who saw the world as coloured maps, as statistics and numbers, and not as peaceful lands and precious lives. It was a conflict brought upon us by our very inventions turned to brutal purpose by the oppressor and his foe. It was a conflict that we did not wish for, nor warrant – nor do we ever wish to see its like again in our time, our in any time.”

“Our scars will never fully heal. Our memory is eternal. But the pain will fade. The past already darkens behind us. From the ashes of empire rises the great phoenix of our esteemed coalition, our League of cities and peoples bound not in the iron service of a distant monarch, nor the capricious dream of draping our banner across an unwilling world. We are bound in determination to come out of the darkness and fight for our place in the light.”

“We have rebuilt our cities. We have rebuilt our lands. We have rebuilt our industries. And now, we build anew. We are building a grand fleet to guard our airspace and trade from those who would reave and despoil in this new age of peace. We are building alliances, and friendships, partnerships with nations, guilds and traders across the Continent. We are building great works of art and science, to defy the horror and destruction that has haunted us these long years. We are building a society that has pride in its diverse heritage and cities, and rejects the powers within and without that seek to divide or consume us. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Signoria, we are building a Nation. A nation not born of blood and conquest, but born of aspiration, of innovation, and of hope.”

“Honoured Members of the Signoria, Lord-Speaker... we are a nation on the rise. And rise we shall!”

“VENZA VICTORIA!”

- Signor Enrico Contalfino, Address to the Signoria on the third anniversary of the end of the Great War.

RESEARCH:

  • SLOT 1: Battlecruisers – With Zephyrelli Aeronautica, and its massive airshipyard, firmly back in Venzeatic ownership, designers turn their attention to theoretical designs for a heavily armed fast and manouverable capital ship. Rumoured to already exist in pirate hands, the skilled engineers put their hand to the idea.
  • SLOT 3: Radio – Convinced that the potential of electronic telegraphy is “simply tapped out” (a young grad student was very pleased with that pun), work is put into the already rife theoretical field of transmitting information via invisible radiation waves through the very air! Ludicrous? Probably.
  • SLOT 4: Moving Pictures – The cities of the new league pride themselves on their arts and culture, and new developments are as popular as the ancient classics. The idea of quickly changing photographs to create the idea of motion isn’t exactly new (as many rich pornographers can attest!), innovations are being made into a type of camera that can accomplish this in an altogether more revolutionary manner...

The Karakhwa

Three men standing in the corner of the deck on a starry night. The wind blew through them like a crowd, pushing against them and cutting away their words with its bustle. Still, they huddled together and spoke in low voices, their eyes glinting nervously in the night.

“Yotal has forsaken her, she has brought us nothing in this raid but scraps and slaughter,” said one, his hands twisting nervously at his waist.

“Don’t speak such nonsense,” growled the second, with a mean scar trying his neck back together. “She’s just forgotten what it means to lead for the people.”

The third stayed silent, his arms crossed and his face dour.

And so they spoke as the airship crawled its way through the dark sky, accompanied by the wind and the dull roar of the ocean far below.

“She is cursed,” said the nervous one. “She will bring us all down with her when Yotal casts her from the heavens.”

“Casts me from the heavens?” said Cloud Hunter said, stepping out from the shadows cast by a doorway.

“Warchief,” said the dour man, his expression unchanged.

Cloud Hunter nodded to him and gestured to the door. “Wake the tribe.”

He nodded and disappeared as Cloud Hunter turned towards the two others. “Moves like Lizard, Swift Water,” she said, nodding her head. “Two brothers, plotting against their warchief. Your mother would be disappointed.”

“She would be proud,” grunted Swift Wind in his gravelly voice. “Can you say the same?”

A spark of fury burst forth for a moment and Cloud Hunter grabbed her tomahawk before taking a deep breath and relaxing. “I do not need her pride, mutineer,” she said as the crew began to filter out until they filled the deck, lit only by the stars and a pale moon.

“Hasse, it is said that Yotal has forsaken me,” she shouted, lifting her weapon above her head and pacing around next to the railing. “That I should be challenged!”

She spun towards Moves like Lizard, a furious scowl on her face. “You will watch,” she said to Swift Water as she leapt up onto the railing diving safety from the void of open air below them. Without holding onto any ropes, she balanced there, pointing her weapon at Moves like Lizard. “Come then, if you think Yotal has abandoned me, join me, let us see who he casts down first.”

“Warchief, I did not mean-”

“Bring him up here,” she snapped, pointing at two crewmen. They immediately stepped forward and grabbed Moves like Lizard, forcing him up to the railing and shoving him in the back.

“Climb, traitor,” growled one of them.

“Warchief, listen,” said Swift Wind, his eyes fixated upon his brother, his hands clenched at his side.

“No, Swift Wind. You shall listen,” she said as she walked along the balustrade until she reached Moves Like Lizard. As he stood, balanced precariously, she grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and turned towards Swift Wind. “You will listen very closely.”

Then she shoved the nervous man off the balustrade, sending him flailing into space. Swift Wind’s face turned to a mask of furious grief as he shouted in denial, his voice mixing with his brother’s scream as he fell, tossed away from the ship like garbage on a high wind.

“Yotal curse you!” yelled Swift Wind as he leapt forward, charging her.

Cloud Hunter darted off the balustrade and slipped to the side as he ran at her. Her tomahawk flashed and landed in the back of his knee, felling him against the railing. He shouted in pain and tried to roll around, but Cloud Hunter grabbed him by the back of his rough tunic and heaved him overboard in one swift move.

At least he had the balls to keep his screams to himself, she thought as she turned back to the crew. “I am the Stormchaser and I am Warchief. If you challenge me, you will die. If you join me, you will be covered in glory by the time the Second Heaven welcomes you.”

“In other news, the results of the most recent election have recently been counted, with the final outcome sweeping across the country.” The man cleared his throat, flipping through his stack of papers. “The overall winner, the incumbent President Campbell wins his 3rd term leading his United Front, with a narrow plurality… 37.5% of the vote. Followed by the…..”

The voice of the large radio near the store front drowned out as a column of trucks rolled through the city street, coming to an abrupt halt. The passengers quickly pouring out, their boots ringing out on the pavement. Down the street, shouts could be heard. The men rushed forward quickly. A whistle blasted and orders rang out.

“Across the Ostrava, unrest has boiled over. VCA units in the area have contained it expertly, but riots and protests continue to ripple across the city. In the deeper areas, we’ve received reports there have even been looting.”

“I see..”

“What would you have us do, Mr. President?”

“Make sure the situation is contained. Deploy a whole division if need be. Get the major papers in here, I won’t have this getting out. Understand?”

“Yes, Mr. President...”

Hammers rung out all around, as the dark sky above poured down upon him. The dirt had turned to a thick mud, but nonetheless, they pressed on. The men beside him hammered away at the rails, as men further down the line laid the ties. Their old and tattered clothing or uniforms stuck to them like a second layer of skin in the downpour.

Behind the line of workers, a Landwehr soldier inspected, slowing moving down the line, a cigarette in his mouth, the rain glancing off his uniform helmet, and a bayonet fixed to his rifle. He looked to him, walking over. The man raised his sledgehammer, moving forward to bring it down on the soldiers head, but before he could, a crack rang out and the man found himself laying across the track, staring up into the sky.

“Anyone else care to join him!?” ….

“Good! Get him off the rails and into a pit! Back to work, slags!”

GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA

1200 HOURS

MAIN STREET PROMENADE, ST. ABELSBURG, PRAHARAVKA

At last, the first batch of T-89Ms had rolled off the assembly lines. With the Great War having severely destroyed Prahan industry and infrastructure, such a feat may have been considered nigh impossible. Yet, the people of Praharavka were a hardy and persistent one. When they set their eyes upon a task, they would damn well see it finished - even if it would cost them their lives.

5 million lives. That’s how many lives Praharavka had lost to the Great War. Some may argue that the war was all for nothing, and Prahan blood was spilled pointlessly. However, today such negativity and nay-saying was washed away. Today, was a day to be proud of Praha’s servicemen and honor the fallen of yesterday.

Indeed, to commemorate the sacrifices of the Prahan soldier’s in the Great War, the people of the Duchy were celebrating, perhaps more observing, the processions of Remembrance Day. Within the Ducal capital of St. Abelsburg, hundreds of thousands took to the streets to watch the soldiers march by, marching at attention, methodically swinging their arms at their side, with the other snapped in a salute and marching to the renowned Prahan Military Orchestra. Along the Main St. Promenade, several Prahan feats of engineering had been unveiled, parading through the streets in all their splendor - marvels of modern engineering. Among them were Praharavka’s long desired tanks, devastating weapons which had proved their worth in the Great War and today.

Though Praharavka had made keen observations of armored warfare and vehicles throughout the past years, by no means were there own creations derivatives. No, the people of Praha were innovators, and took all the best elements of armored vehicles, while minimizing the negatives. The result of this process was Kostilov’s T-89M Medium Tank - designed to fulfill multiple roles on the battlefield. It was sufficiently protected, maneuverable, and lethal - all within a small tracked steel package.

However, notably absent from Prahan factory’s production queues were armored transport vehicles for the infantry. What good were breakthrough tanks if they didn’t have infantry to follow up and capitalize on hole they had punched. Praharavka possessed no mechanized vehicles in its arsenal. A problem which was determined to be in need of remedy.

In fact, this has become quite the topic of debate among the crew of the North Wind, the tank and personnel who had essentially pioneered the Prahan armored development program.

From his balcony, upon the Ducal palace, the aging Duke Anatoly II looked on in pride as the first armored columns lumbered, no – graciously rolled across the streets in a beautiful mechanical droning. The lead vehicle was led by Poludnitsev, commander of the North Wind. Recently promoted, one might say he had been counted among the Duke’s good graces. He smiled as the procession continued.

1500 HOURS

1ST TANK BATTALION HEADQUARTERS

After the parade, in the heart of 1st Tank Battalion’s headquarters, Poludnitsev popped open the commander’s hatch, immediately feeling of the embrace of the cool northern air. He welcomed it - there was almost something exhilarating about it. Everytime he left the confines of his vehicle, he knew he was just a man. Made of soft flesh, otherwise destined to die a horrific death on the frontline. But no, Poludnitsev was no infantryman; he was a tanker at heart. Perhaps this passion is what allowed him to ascend the ranks so quickly.

He wrapped his arms around the perimeter of his commander’s cupola, lifting himself halfway through to get a look upon the activities of his crewmates and subordinates. Though technically their commander, and bearing the bars of a lieutenant colonel, he felt no more influential than the next man. Each man played his part and was crucial to smooth functioning of the vehicle. Alexei. Ludomir. Bogdan. They were all brothers to him. He could faintly hear their voices, before returning to his sense of normalcy, they once more became audible.

“...why should I stick my neck out for them? The tank supports the infantry.” said Ludomir towards the front of vehicle, wiping away at the tank’s headlights with a small cloth.

Around the corner and towards the aft from Ludomir, Bogdan, took hold of a water line, hosing down the suspension. Where he sprayed, bits of gunk and mud withered away from the wheels and tracks. He was quite thorough in this, spending some time on each wheel and tread, making sure everything got out. Though consumed in his maintenance routine, and gawking at the rear drive wheel, he called out, “Tanks pave the way forward. We can take the hits, they can’t.”

Between the two was Alexei, who sat upon the front hull, leaning back upon the turret and gun mantlet, legs dangling off the side of the vehicle, flinching as stray droplets of rather high pressure water, soaked lower body. There slightly annoyed, though, seemed far too comfortable to move - even against the cold, hard steel of the North Wind. Overhearing their conversation, he interjected, “It is the infantry that holds ground and the infantry who takes it. No different from artillery, they call us in if there’s a nut too tough to crack.”

Bogdan lowered his hose, “Do you know what you’re saying?” he asked, looking up towards Alexei. His steady stream of water still pounding the side of the tank.

“Of course I do, we make breakthroughs.”

“Yes.” he rolled his eyes, turning off the water line, and dropping the hose. “But more importantly, we capitalize on them.” he said, gently rapping his fist on the side of the vehicle.

“Aye, we’re not static weapons.” chimed in Ludomir.

“Indeed.” said Poludnitsev, finally taking part in the conversation. “Neither are tanks those slow, land-crawlers from the Great War. We’ve now got serious mobility and firepower at our disposal. Shock and awe.”

Alexei shook his head, “Yeah? That’s how we thought the Great War would be fought? Nae. Instead, every man found themselves stuck in a ditch for years on end.” he scoffed.

Alexei was not of the same mindset as him. Perhaps one day, he’ll understand.

Alexei cocked his head, squinting as he took notice of a freshly green-clad kempt figure saunter towards their vehicle, still wearing his dress cap and shirt tucked beneath his belt. “Fuckin’ A. Who’re you?” he called out to the stranger.

The stranger stopped mid-tracks, snapping to attention at the raggedy group of men. “Cpl. Jan Baranovich. I’ve been assigned to this vehicle AV-05 as assistant loader, sirs.”

“My God.” Bogdan muttered under his breath.

“New guy, eh?” Ludomir craned his neck to get a good luck at the man, if he could be called that. “You’ll fit right in. C’mere, kid. Right in time for orientation.”

“Very good, sir.” said Jan, seemingly eager as he strode toward the crew.

Alexei sighed, “Fuckin’ new guy.”

With insight from Loginovsky and reports returning from observers in the Anarein Confederacy, the Grand Ducal Administration gives the nod to begin the development of Praha’s mechanized corps. A concept is devised for a speedy, lightly-armored 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle, the PMD-45. Designed to keep up with the tanks, these vehicles are designed to rapidly redeploy infantry on the battlefield.

The Carnelian Sultanate

1885

In the gardens behind his palace, Abdul sat quietly on the edge of a duck pond. In flowing calligraphy that he was quite proud of, he slowly wrote poetry that would most likely make him sick the following morning. One never became a master in a day, but he would get there. He always did, eventually.

The horrible poetry was interrupted, however, as the sound of nearby footsteps grew louder. Right on schedule. Abdul set down his pen, and turned to watch a man being led to him under guard. Orhan Tejiz, long-serving grand judge. Abdul had never liked him much.

Tejiz bowed as he reached the Sultan, a large jewel sparkling in his turban. “Your Majesty,” he said, “Have you had a chance to peruse the new-”

“Spare me, please.” Abdul stared unblinking at his minister. “I want to know why the investigation into the murder of my family has been closed.”

“It is generally customary to do so when the culprits have been punished, Majesty.” Orhan looked annoyed.  “The saboteur went down with the ship, and her…associates are no more. Frankly I would have thought you’d be pleased, they were caught most efficie-”

“You’ve executed them?” Abdul interrupted again, looking astonished.

“Of course.”

“Then how do you expect to stop this happening again? Who gave them the bombs? What did they expect to gain? It doesn’t make sense, minister.”

“Majesty, the communist mind is fundamentally unsound. One cannot expect them to act sensibly. The only remedy is to put them down, before they can spread their affliction.”

The Sultan was speechless for several moments. “The saboteur was not a communist.”

“...so we think, Majesty.”

“She broke up a labor strike during the war!”

“That...is true, Your Majesty.”

“Then please, minister.” Abdul glowered. “Please inform me how such an ardent anti-communist, a representative of this very government, ended up falling in with a gang of revolutionaries?”

The grand judge hesitated. “Your Majesty, we could not find…”

“It’s hard to find anything when all you have are dead suspects and a closed investigation.”

Tejiz bowed again. “My apologies, lord. I can reopen the case until we find enough answers to satisfy you.”

“That won’t be necessary.” Abdul sighed. “You’ll resign by the end of the day, or you’ll be fired.” The minister opened his mouth to speak, but withered under the Sultan’s gaze.

“Enjoy your retirement, minister.”

1. Scarab Type 83 Forward Firing Aircraft Rocket (FFAR)

Failures in development don’t seem to halt Scarab’s enthusiasm over their new idea. The arms manufacturer’s CEO issues an encouraging press release, and orders his engineers to no longer conduct tests with live explosives until the rocket is otherwise fully functional. [1887 Estimate]

Development on the Type 79, whose name is now a source of embarrassment due to both the year and the government nomenclature, stubbornly continues. Managers at Hossani-Bradford must continually fight to keep the project funded, citing various markets and variants they can apply the design to. [1887 estimate]

Juverin Republic

It was a great day in Juverin, Rigoberto had captured victory from the shadows in the Terra Roja race. A two new deals were struck between the Klendari and Panther aviation, bringing an influx of cash into the income. The other with Terra Roja, successfully dividing the land between the two nations to avoid future land conflicts. Cicero Armaments, had successfully created the C-88 Flak Cannon. Finally, Ricci Steel had found a way to expand infrastructure and make the railways safer. It was a busy year, and the construction crews were about to be equally as busy.

Rigoberto had stayed in Terra Roja, with his family. Enjoying his victory lap, before he would head home in a year. As Octavian granted him that before he was to be named as a captain within the Republic’s navy. The ‘YoungBoy’ was making a name for himself, as one of. If not the most talented pilotes on the planet. Octavian had a plan to reveal a statue in his name, for his remarkable first victory of what he thought might be the first of many. Juverin Republic was becoming an economic powerhouse it once was. But was being impeded by the pirates that plagued the world.

The sun was shining bright over the Republic, only time would tell if it would last or if the darkness that consumed the world they used to live in would consume them again. Dark places were beginning to crawl out of their holes again. Several plans were beginning to fall into place, as they would need them. One thing being in the cunning, corrupt economic world of Juverin has taught him. Is trust nobody. You cannot rely on anybody but yourself.

------

The Idin Treaty was signed in the Republic’s most northern city. Between Terria Roja, and the Juverin Republic. The treaty was created between the two nations after years of deliberation between the two combined with years of surveying and prospecting the resources of their island. For a fair distribution of land and resource wealth. To ease future border conflicts between the two, and solidify the future wellbeing of the two nations for their prosperity. The Rojian’s would be included in the upcoming border security plans that Octavian was about to install within his lands. Seeking to please them even further. This deal would open up plenty of opportunities for the pair to work together in preserving their land and the threats that might come with it.

Statistics:

Population: 54,100,800

Income: 153,000

Actions:

The deal between the Klendari and Panther Aviation was a shock to many, but the deal brought a great amount of wealth to the Republic. Richie decided to continue to invest within the growing economy, with more people coming of age. More jobs needed to be created, a large investment into the civilian infrastructure was made. (23 Civilian Industry) (103,500 Gold).

The first wing of P-22s are built, and shipped to the Klendari. (3 AP, 7,000 Gold)

Military infrastructure continues development. Three heavy Industry is constructed. (20,250 gold)

With great growth comes great responsibility, the baseline is drawn up for a passport system and registration system for the government to keep track of its citizens. (Mod? Maybe)

Research:

Slot one: C6 Rifle (Finished 1886)

Slot two: Carrier (Finished 1890)

Slot Three:

After the race, a few men have spoken about looking into faster engines for the airships that might potentially be game changing in aerial combat (Mod!)

STEEL HORIZON

1885

Fire. Steel. Blood. The Battle of Aranak begins with gusto. Hundreds of thousands of ACP troops clash with hundreds of thousands of Corvinist troops in the battle that will decide the fate of the Aranaein Confederacy. The battle is savage and relentless - all theaters of the war now seem focused on this one fight. Soldiers fight from trench to trench, street to street, house to house. Even in the first three months, the death toll is staggering. Under Pryce, Cumberland forces boldly secure several important positions in the city early in the battle, however, their offensive is stagnated when Pryce is shot in the head and severely wounded. The general will recover, but he loses his right eye. In the sky, Valdenian UAMs under Hoch battle with newly designed ACP fighters - the Raptor M84 or the RM-84. Though the battle becomes more difficult here, the UAM continues to display air superiority. It is obvious, however, that their numbers are being whittled down and combat stress is beginning to be a major factor for Valdenian pilots, who have flown an enormous number of missions thus far. The Battle of Aranak, though bloody, continues to be a stalemate and looks likely to continue for a great while yet.

The war begins to die down in the Free Provinces. The Communist rebels in Verna have held their ground against repeated Free Provinces’ Army offensives, but have found themselves unable to push any further against the FPA. As it stands, it’s simply a stalemate between two ideologically alien regimes. The Government of the Free Provinces, desperate to end the wars plaguing their nation, have apparently entered into talks with the Communist Party of Verna, much to the fury of right-wing nationalists led by Enrico Rienzo.

This year, in the United Socialist Pact of Nikstrana, the First International is held, with representatives from all over the known world eagerly attending to discuss how best to further the cause of the Proletariat. For several weeks the conference endures, much to the worry of other, less red world leaders.

Crown Prince Altpekin continues his reforms. Along with the beginnings of an Air Corps, he begins to refurbish the Army. Much of the senior army staff are sacked, and a massive campaign of regeneration is put under way. Most of the massed corps of badly trained and ill equipped infantry are phased out, in exchange for proper, professional troops.

Rumours abound of a new style of Volta-Solvan ship being designed. This new battleship will apparently make the current capital ships obsolete, though many in the Naval Leagues and Admiralties of the world vociferously disagree. Needless to say, this is a chance for the destroyed and damaged fleets to catch up once more. Volta-Solvan lays a dreadnought down, followed closely by the Klendari. Pozharin announces the construction of a dreadnought, and the Free Provinces' Navy puts forward their proposed naval development bill to the Senate, though most of it is denied, and only one of the proposed ships is layed down.

For the first time in nearly 4 years, piracy experiences a minor lull. While Abigdal Ben-gal’s ships continue to reave, they are lesser in number and less constant than previous years. The Pirate King apparently licks his wounds after the battles fought the previous year. The Restoyn is neither seen nor heard of for the entirety of 1885, and nations breath a little easier in the momentary easing of Tsornluft piracy.

THE GRAND PRINCIPALITY OF CUMBERLAND

A quiet year as the Prince rebuilds his air fleet. Quiet, save for the unexpected visitors who arrive to the Princely Court, with unexpected offers…. (Discord)

Piracy continues, harsh in Cumberland, where the fleet is weak and stretched. -5000G

The men of Cumberland acquit themselves well in the Anaraein Civil War. -3000 Regular Infantry, 5000 Infantry become veterans. +3 Prestige for Pryce.

THE REPUBLIC OF EMMERIA

Emmerian technological innovation continues, as the peaceful Republic attempts to live out her life without foreign aggression or intervention. It is a particularly prosperous year for the Republic, as all her funds and efforts are focused on national improvement. (+2% growth bonus, 2 turns. +5’000G for this turn.)

Piracy continues to be a minor problem for Emmeria, though it is noted that the pirates seem to be basing themselves somewhere nearby… -2000G

THE GWANGNAN DOMINION

The attempts to design a dreadnought go smoothly enough, but it quickly becomes apparent that there is far too much work for the team employed by the task. The project is clearly grossly underfunded, and no timescale can be ascertained because of this.

Gwangnanese scientists prove incapable of figuring out how to design a gas mask.

Strange things abound, around both a certain Yukiko clan official, and the heroic Lance-Corporal Tank of the Imperial Guard…. (Discord)

THE VENZEATIC LEAGUE

Venzeatic skill at shipbuilding proves to be a major asset, as a progenitor class of battlecruiser is predicted by 1887.

Radios will become available to Venza in 1886.

This is a technology with such a huge influence on civilian life! Companies fight for the contract, knowing it may make them an abject fortune. With such competition, it becomes clear that such cameras will be available by 1886.

Venzeatic ambassadors are received by the Northern Communist states gladly. (Discord)

Piracy is an issue for all. -2000G

THE KARAKHWA

Solomon…. Since the desert, Solomon has noticed many changes. He is stronger, and faster. That strange, inscribed scimitar seems to feel as if it were a part of his very soul, and within weeks he has achieved an unbelievable level of mastery in its usage. Often, when Keynes worries or feels fear, he feels an inexplicable, strengthening warmth, as if a great weight has been lifted from his shoulders, and soft, tender arms have been wrapped around him instead…. The boy says little, tagging along behind Solomon all the time, insisting on being taught to fight, which he takes to with a scary efficiency.

Solomon takes ill for over a week, and he is hunted by vivid and lucid fever dreams… (Discord)

Heart of Iron’s old war hounds do their job with a ruthless efficiency. The three destroyers take a great haul, dodging and avoiding the clumsy movements of Klendari cruiser squadrons with ease. +8000G

THE COMMONWEALTH OF VALDEK

Building roads and railways is a slow business, especially when your workers don’t want to work.

Valdek remains untouched by piracy this year, though Volta-Solvan is not so lucky. The Volta-Solvanese perceive this as inadequate defense of their trade lanes by the Valdenian led task force, and lodge an official complaint, demanding more efficient and fairer policing.

Aestas takes the project, and the accompanying grants, and is totally unable to deliver on the research. In fact, they don’t even know where to start, and the company quickly pulls the plug, resulting in a loss of face and finance for the government. -8000G

Life is hard in the Anaraein Civil War. -15 Regular UAMs, -7 Veteran UAMs, +3 Prestige for Hoch

THE GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA

Praharavkan experience and observations in matters of armour help immensely in the development of this new mechanised vehicle. The PMD-45 will be available in 1888.

THE CARNELIAN SULTANATE

The town is established along the line, and quickly becomes a major hub for the pleasure of the Kesun Line’s garrison with its relatively close proximity. (A red light district that quickly becomes world famous is established. +2000G per turn.)

The military base is established, but Perzah lodges a diplomatic protest at the development of a base on land that they traditionally regard as within their sphere of influence. Meanwhile, the garrisons of their own bases on the island are increased.

Piracy continues, though less intensively this year. -2000G

TIERRA ROJA

Phillip’s efforts on education finally come to fruition. +1 research slot by 1887.

Tierra Rojan infrastructure is slowly becoming similar to the infrastructure found in a third world country, as opposed to being similar to the infrastructure found in Valdek. +1 development.

Scientists already reported that the engines would be ready in 1887. They will add approximately 2 knots to each ship class’ maximum speed.

Piracy continues. -5000G

JUVERIN REPUBLIC

The government census goes well, and several previously undeclared sources are discovered for taxation purposes. +2000G per turn from new census data.

New airship engines will be ready by 1887, and they will add 2 knots of speed to each ship class.

Radios are a much more uncertain matter, and a tentative date of 1890 is placed on their development.

The new territorial agreement is unchallenged, but it will be largely worthless until Tierra Rojo and the Republic actually build towns to claim the land.

Piracy continues. -5000G

VENZEATIC LEAGUE

1886

To much press fanfare, the CEO of Zephyrelli Aeronautica, Valeryii Zeferelli announces that a pair of freighters have been sent to explore the uncharted seas and skies to the east of the Venzeatic Isles. The two craft will act as support for each other, filled with fuel and supplies. They’ve been ordered to take no unnecessary risks, and return well before supplies are in danger of running low on a return journey.

Elsewhere, economic expansion continues, and good progress is made on research initiatives. From the ashes of the old colonial system and economy, new civilian companies and factories spring up to populate the still-ruined industrial districts of many of the great city-states.

With this industrialisation, and a strengthening of the control of the new state, there are hints of unrest. Altano, historic enemy of the city of Venza in by-gone day, is beset by fractious political dialogue. Seen as the Isles’ second city, Altano is nestled high in the Alts, the western mountain range, and is a place of proud men and great resources. It is perhaps historically inevitable that Altano was to be sticking point for the new league. Indispensable, integral, yet ineffably insular. The nobility of the city are proud and resentful of the influence of Venza, though recognise the necessity of the League. They would rather shift its centre of power to their city. The murmurings from the lower reaches of society, are less congenial. Communism, though largely seen as an overly Pozharin philosophy by many, has a strong minority support throughout the League for its anti-imperial (and therefore anti-Pozharin) rhetoric. In the mines and factories of Altano, however, it appeals strongly to the workers. Time will tell if these seditious rumblings will lead to anything of danger to public order in the city, or the nascent League as a whole.

GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA

THE WATCH ON THE SVILUGA

19 FEBRUARY 1886

1330 HOURS

It was a quiet early afternoon on Praha’s eastern frontier. On Praha’s side of the River Sviluga, a force was amassed in preparation for the need of rapid action and response. The calling of the First Internationale had no doubt troubled much of the affluent members of Prahan society; from government officials to factory owners. Already had some small-scale general strikes and riots been quelled. However, it was unknown if these workers were spurred on by socialist agents or through their own volition. Nevertheless, the Administration placated the protesters with promises of suffrage, better working conditions, regulations, and wages - much to the dismay of the business owners. Whether or not the government would hold true to those promises would remain to be seen.

While significant efforts had been devoted to rooting out the communists among, potential sleep cells from the Internationale, an even more substantial force was recruited to combat the communists that did not hide from plain view. Throughout the past months, the Prahan government slowly began the reconstruction of the Ground Army, following the massive disarmament at the end of the Great War. A large portion of these resources were shifted eastward, to the River Sviluga. In the past, the Sviluga had represented a border with the Pozharinite Empire. Now, it was a strategic liability.

The brief conflict with the Socialists of Nikstrana and their lapdogs against the Tsardom had proven that should push come to shove, Pozharin may not survive another drawn-out conflict. At the end of the war, Pozharin was on the verge of economic collapse, no doubt sowing sentiments of Tsarist failures and reinforcing the soundness of communist ideology. Precautionary measures would need to be taken in the likely event that Pozharin succumbs to internal revolution. As such, numerous tactical assets were moved eastward toward the border. Among them were the 1st and 2nd Infantry, several regiments of field artillery, and 1st Independent Tank Battalion.

Poludnitsev spat. He sat cross-legged by an open fire on a chair hauled away from the local village of Brevetz. From where he sat, over a breastwork, he could make out the River Sviluga. A low-hanging missed hung just above the water’s surface, with formations of ice ever expanding and melting away on either bank of the river. Further beyond was a stretch of largely unoccupied neutral territory, and further beyond that was the Tsardom of Pozharin. Poludnitsev had in his hand a copy of the local print, seemingly consumed in today’s headline. “Hm. Have you heard the news, boys?” he said, lowering the newspaper.

“What’s that, commander?” asked Baranovich, huddled by the remnants of last night’s fire, feeding leaves and twigs into the pit piecemeal in an effort to keep the flames going.

“The First Internationale.” stated Poludnitsev with airs of skepticism.

“The Communist Convention?” asked Ludomir, from across Baranovich, seemingly already informed on the issue.

The Commie-con? Bogdan perked a brow, somewhere over Poludnitsev’s shoulder - presumably at the tank. In fact, he stood atop North Wind’s engine deck, loading a new box of ammunition into the AA-machine gun mount.

Poludnitsev glowered a moment, then lapsing to his normal state, “Yes, the Commie-con.

“How disillusioned those Reds are.” said Ludomir.

“The Wars have taken their tolls on everybody. Many are losing faith in their current regimes.” said Bogdan, cocking the bolt of the top-mounted MG backwards. With this enthusiasm, he seemed practically ready to take the tank right into the capital of Nikstrana.

“Mhm.” said Poludnitsev, flipping the page.

Alexei scoffed, returning from his supply run. He cradled a pair of two logs, promptly dropping them at his feet before Baranovich. “I say the more Communists in one place the better - makes them an easier target.”

“An easier target for what? We - anyone, in His Grace’s Armed Forces is well outside of striking distance. It may as well be half a world away.” Ludomir shook his head, ever the voice of reason.

Alexei remarked, in a sharpening of the theoretical blade, “Mark my words, we shall be the first in Risyetz.”

Research 1: Radio Communication (Complete in ‘88)

Radio Communication continues to make strides, though perhaps at a slower pace than hoped. Nonetheless, top brass looks forward to implementing the technology everywhere from the bridges of airships, to the ground-based armored vehicles, and potentially 1 set to each and every platoon.

Research 2: Mechanized Infantry (Complete in ‘88)

Eager research and development continues on the PMD-45.Thankfully, there have been little to minor setbacks. The vehicle is designed to be heavily modular, with potential for mounting machine guns to light cannons. Most importantly, the vehicle will be able to transport a full squad into battle.

Research 3: Aircraft Carrier (1 year previously invested; 1882-1883, continued 1886-)

News quickly arrives to the PRAC Admiralty that several of the Great Powers have begun acquiring and building revolutionary airship technology. To avoid falling behind in this war for aerial dominance, the Grand Ducal Administration greenlights the continuation of the Aircraft Carrier program. In particular, efforts are focused on creating large carriers with multiple runways, capable of projecting dominance over a wide scope.

(Probably can’t post much this week. Might add RP later but likely not.)

--------------

Foreign Policy

[Perzah] - Deflecting requests to vacate the territory, the Sultanate offers to lease the eastern end of the island from Perzah for the sum of 2,000 Carnelian Shekels annually. No significant numbers of troops have garrisoned the base at this time.

[Kingdom of Baresh] - The Carnelian embassy in this southern kingdom is significantly expanded, and Carnelian diplomats are transparent in their desire to secure the south against the eastern colossus. Representatives from the Sultanate make overtures exploring the possibility of a new railroad between Baresh and the Carnelian Coast.

--------------

Expenditure

[140,200 Shekels]

[21 Civilian Industry; 105,000 Shekels] - The marketplace continues its boom, and is on track to finally return to pre-war levels in a couple years.

[1 Air Shipyard; 10,000 Shekels] - Ships! More ships!

[1 Destroyer; 2 ASP/3,000 Shekels] - Armed convoy Albacore is in need of some armament.

[10,000 Light Infantry; 2 AP/12,000 Shekels] - Kezim Orbay has finally had his request for a proper airborne division granted. No doubt they will perform admirably.

[KESTREL; 3,000 Shekels]

[Kesun Line upgrades; 7,000 Shekels] - In addition to the 10,000 invested last year, the Carnelian army invests significant effort into fortifying the Kesun Line. Initiatives focus on defense in depth in key areas, with defensible tunnel networks, additional trenches and killing fields, and large ammunition stockpiles under the line’s citadels.

[3200 Shekels saved.]

Science

1. Scarab Type 83 Forward Firing Aircraft Rocket (FFAR)

3. Akar Steelworks - MORE development

Mustafa Akar has certainly made a splash in the Carnelian industrial market, but he’s not satisfied. Far from it! His competitors have already adopted most of his reforms, and soon they’ll be undercutting him! The company needs a competitive advantage, so he does everything in his power to foster cooperation and creativity among his engineers. Akar will be the best! [Make me a forgemaster pls]

The streetlight beyond the alleyway flickered, the lightbulb emitting a low hum. Overhead the stars shone brightly, in the puddles’ reflection, the masked figure saw a meteor streak overhead, temporarily diverting his eyes towards the heavens. He fastened the chestpiece; the H/70’s breach closed with its iconic clack, the figure slung the rifle towards his side. He stood silently, only a ripple within the puddle announcing the man’s departure.

“Everything is ready?”  The man’s voice asked, quiet, obscured by the mask, eventually reaching the door to a large truck

“Of course.. He’ll be there, at the port..” The voice from within the truck answered.

“My payment?” He inquired further, the man’s hand gripped the handle of his pistol, out of view of his associate. Bakker’s breath smelled like death. He was a fat man, greedy, always eating,  never one to be trusted, nor his employers.. always scheming..

“I…” Bakker paused “was never informed in regards to your payment, you’ll ha-”

“You seem.. nervous, Bakker. Why is that..”

”I-of course not... I was simply not Informed, speak to Wh-“ Bakker’s excuse was cut off by a soft crack as the man raised his pistol, and coated the truck’s cabin with Bakker’s brains.

He holstered the pistol, and dumped Bakker’s pathetic corpse onto the pavement, rummaging through his bags and the truck’s compartments. The man found little of value, only the orders, not even his payment, which was mildly surprising… He drew down his mask for a brief moment, if only to spit on Bakker, who was quickly filling the narrow street with blood. Someone was bound to arrive sooner or later, Bakker’s unfortunate end was regrettable, but ultimately a net positive.

He stood, glacing once more at the truck before walking off. There was yet work to be done.
