Juverin Republic

The air in the room was still, tensions were high. Noctum was quiet, hell all of Juverin was quiet, as the President paced down the stone halls sounded like the loudest footsteps known to man. His mind was spinning, heart racing, and his eyes were filled with rage, sadness, and despair. Not knowing what happened as reports of a massacre filled his mind. Youngboy was dead, no trace of his corvette or one of the freighters. Not even to mention the poor women and children on the train, Octavian couldn’t imagine what was going through their head as gunfire ripped through the people below. It was savage, and barbaric. The world before them was rapidly declining around Juverin.

Octavian wiped the sweat from his brow, as the anxiety and rage had filled him into a rapid pace. Locked away in his room, with nothing to show for it. He did not know how to cope with this lose and did not want to deal with it. However, he had his people that looked up to him, the council chose to back him. For his strong will and determination. Octavian was an elected official, tragedy that weighed on the nation was his to deal with. He spoke to himself, as he paced. “Piracy, death. Nothing good comes from war, but nothing good comes from peace.” his mumbling continued, “I am going to string every pirate, raider, nomadic beast  across the mountains.Anyone who resembles a pirate, will be killed.” His anger built, like a volcano readying to explode, “No.” He looked around, his vision blurry, before he moved to the mirror sitting across from him, “We cannot do that. Barbaric reactions is what they want. To spread their behavior.” A tear rolled down his cheek as he looked into the mirror. Images of what might of happened played into his head, women being gunned down and children getting gunned down. In a rage his hand moved swiftly the smooth knuckles met his mirror, letting out a scream of anger, sadness and confusion. He fell back into his wall, slumping slowly onto his wooden floor. As the blood dropped, from the tip of his fingers unto the unstained floor. The world around him was falling.

The Karakhwa

Cloud Hunter kept a small cabin near the front of the Stormchaser. It was a cramped space, no more than a cot and a small pathway beside it to make ones way to the door. The blankets were threadbare and old, made from intricately woven and worn down cloth, so old that it was almost uniformly gray now.

She paced back and forth, the floorboards creaking beneath her as Kiss the Sun sat on her bed, his legs folded neatly and his face impassive.

“Heart of Iron humiliated me,” she snapped, making a cutting gesture with her hand. Small scars littered her fingers, a thousand splinters, a hundred cuts. “And there is nothing I can do about it.”

“Our warchief has too much influence, too much respect-”

“He is not your warchief,” she snarled, spinning towards him and glaring down at him with eyes full of embers. “I am. Not him. Me!”

“Calm yourself,” said Kiss the Sun, looking past her, to the hand resting upon one of the many weapons hooked to her wall.

For a moment, it looked as if Cloud Hunter would explode, then she looked back, almost surprised by the touch of cold steel beneath her fingers, and slowly lifted them from the weapon. With a deep breath, she nodded. “Right. Calm.”

Kiss the Sun reached out and brushed a finger against her arm. “You need more than raids and blood to win this war of influence.”

“That is what I know.”

“And Heart Of Iron will always have known more of it. Seek your power elsewhere.”

“What do you suggest, then?” said Cloud Hunter, seeming to struggle with the words, as if such a question were an unfamiliar obstacle for her lips to form. “Heart Of Iron has the hearts of all but my tribe, and his honor,” she spat out the word like a curse, “makes him untouchable.”

“Find others who are apart,” said Kiss the Sun. “Gather the rejects. The dishonored, the criminals, the murderers.” He rose from his sitting position, the sunlight shining through the porthole now burning in his eyes, like two golden fires. “Give them ships. Give them chiefs. You can keep them in check.”

“Of course I can,” said Cloud Hunter with a frown, barely seeming to acknowledge his final words. “They’re scum. All they need is a whip.” Then she shook her head. “I can gather these dogs, but leading a pack of animals will not turn the others away from Heart of Iron.”

“Solomon Keynes, then,” said Kiss the Sun.

“What?”

“Solomon Keynes, the foreigner.”

“I know who the white boy is,” snapped Cloud Hunter, her voice grating with irritation. “Why him?”

“He wants to be bound to Sunlight that Dances, it is said amongst the men.”

“Then he’s as stupid as his foreign coat makes him look.”

“Maybe, but he has been blessed, and people are look to him now more than ever, after the capture of the Spirit of Blood. Get him on your side, and then you may begin to win people over.”

Cloud Hunter said no more, she just nodded, a thoughtful look on her face, and jerked her head towards the door. “Leave me. Return tonight.”

Expenses

Civilian Industry: 17 (85.000G)

Steel Mill: 1 (2.500G)

Vitramite Mine: 1 (5.000G)

Vitraium Refinery: 1 (5.000G)

Air Shipyard: 2 (20.000G)

Battlecruiser: 1, Regular. 4ASP, 12.000G

Destroyer: 1, Veteran. 2ASP, 3.000G

The Wind Devils, their purpose forgotten since the end of the great war, are finally called back into action. Donning their old kites, slinging axes and shotguns around their waists and painting their faces with their distinctive marks once more, these old war hawks will train a new generation of fighters. Dispersed as marines across all ships and caravans, they are once more ready to rain blood upon the mud below in Yotal’s name. (4AP, 6000G)

Excess 23.000G

Research

Sky Wolf torpedo project continues. In addition to the torpedo, tests are carried out to have launchers capable of firing multiple ones at once attached to destroyers and corvettes. (1889) (Passive slot)

Funded Research: The Karakhwa now seek a new method of altitude control for their Vitraium cores. Perhaps new casing, or new pressure systems. Either way, the aim is to achieve a new method of regulating altitude which would allow for far quicker gains or decreases than ever before. (16.000G)

13.000G is sent to the Carnelian Sultanate

Actions

-Two corvettes and a destroyer along with a section of one of the many Karakhwa caravans sails south-west, towards the sea...and beyond. They go well-prepared, with food, water, gas, etc. Along the way, they will do the Karakhwa way of hunting, which consists of either dipping down to the sea to fish, or netting birds mid-flight. Water will be collected from rain. (4.000G) (1 Destroyer, 2 corvettes)

-The Karakhwa turn their bloody tomahawks on many a target this year. The first is the Free Junta. Four corvettes and five destroyers are tasked with these raids. They will try to hit railroads, mines and (heavy) industrial zones with incendiary and high explosive bombs or other tools of the trade. Cloud Hunter has her own plans though…. (Mod) (Four corvettes, Five destroyers)

-The Klendari raids continue, as usual. The Iron Dogs continue to attack industrial zones, air shipyards, railroads, mines… The raids never end and they never take prisoners. (Four Destroyers, four corvettes.)

-Finally, the Karakhwa also turn to raiding international trade, hitting freighters sailing towards the Klendari and either destroying them, or capturing them along with their goods. For now, they only seem to target trade going into the Klendari lands… or coming out. (1 Yotal’s Hawk, 1 Destroyer, 3 corvettes.)

-Repairs to the Spirit of Blood, the newly captured Karakhwa battlecruiser are undertaken.

STEEL HORIZON

1888

For seven years, the Anaraein Civil War has raged. In 1887, Corvin had within his grasp his final triumph - the city of Aranak, the capital of the Confederacy. That triumph, however, was not to last. The ACP, previously disorganised and confused, recovered from their disunity under the leadership of newly elected Premier, Taran Rodeck. ACP forces, though inexperienced and somewhat badly led, had for most of the war a major material advantage and in 1888, finally, they manage to put it to good use. On May 19th 1888, thousands of ACP tanks and hundreds of thousands of men sit in readiness at the Saltic section of the front. Corvin, no man’s fool, had mustered the majority of his armoured forces opposite. On May 22nd, massed ACP bombardment begins the 2nd Battle of Saltic, the largest tank battle in history with over 4000 tanks involved. After three days of bitter fighting, ACP forces successfully shatter Corvin’s lines, and launch a huge flanking attack on Aranak. The result is a total encirclement of the city, the CEF, the VEF, the Valdenian II Air Corps and much of Corvin’s hardest troops. Corvinist forces attempt a major breakout, but are ultimately unsuccessful. Disaster follows, as the ACP achieve deep strategic penetration while the Corvinist line collapses. By September, Hunthelm is under siege and Corvin spends much of his time moving phantom divisions on the map, deep within his bunker. One October 2nd, 1888, the last Corvinist forces in the Anaraein Confederacy surrender, and Hunthelm falls to the ACP. At Aranak, Cumberland and Valdenian expeditionary troops surrender on October 1st. The Anaraein Civil War officially ends on October 5th, 1888, when Taran Rodeck announces the foundation of the Confederation of Socialist Anaraein Cantons (CSAC). Corvin is nowhere to be found.

In Greater Modevia, Rienzo’s purges reach an all time high as thousands of members of the opposition are arrested and executed. Tens of thousands of suspected Communists and old regime supporters are rounded up on the barest of charges. Rienzo’s Polizi di Tamaro head the charge, taking over the duties of both the old Free Provinces’ Intelligence Service and the State Police Force. The PdT are merciless and fanatical, and serve as the iron fisted support of Rienzo’s new regime. Rienzo, however, has always courted the affections of the army and the navy, and continues to solidify their support with several bills that drastically increase the military budget, while nationalising much of the all important military industry and funding the creation of more. An ardent armour supporter, the new First Minister declares that the Union of Greater Modevia will have an armoured force that will be feared the world over!

Ben-gal, once infamous pirate, is defeated. With his buccaneering fleets shattered and gone, the world finally turns to beyond their own shores. The first colonies are established by Valdek and Venza in 1887, but the other powers are not far behind. Volta-Solvan establishes their own enclave in the Empire of Koibita in 1888, and officially opens diplomatic discourse with the Emperor, establishing the first of many trading treaties with the newly discovered power.

The Naval Arms Race continues at full force, as Volta-Solvan lays down 2 Battlecruisers and a Dreadnought, while the Klendari lay down another 2 Dreadnoughts. The USP, meanwhile, lay down a further 2 Dreadnoughts. Greater Modevia, determined to reclaim her veneer of past glories, begins to rebuild her fleet, laying down 3 Dreadnoughts and a Battlecruiser in the same year, accompanied by 8 destroyers.

In the north, Pozharin slowly begins to restabilise under her new system of constitutional monarchy. The state treasury begins a steady recovery, and it is just in time, for the First Internationale is made bold by the successes of their policies, and always they lurk dangerously over the eastern border, waiting to strike.

THE VENZEATIC LEAGUE

A quiet year of easy money and shameless neo-imperialism.

THE CARNELIAN SULTANATE

Baresh and Mejhai eagerly accept the observers. Their armies appear to be relatively well experienced and decently trained, but woefully ill equipped - their infantry rifles could have been called old fashioned in the middle of the Great War! The Ministry of War estimates 10 AP each will be required to make their armies and fighter corps modern and reliable.

Omar heads west, hot on the tail of Hallik’s expedition…. (Discord)

The vast investment succeeds in building an extremely high quality line from Port Carnelian.

THE COMMONWEALTH OF VALDEK

An 8 hour working day? The masses are delighted! The business owners, on the other hand, are in a pure rage at such careless and irresponsible policy making! In protest, they choose to sell many of their goods abroad for the year - even for lower prices. It appears they have some kind of “union” of their own!  -25% production for the year.

Koibita is somewhat hostile to foreigners, but the Emperor and his court accept Valdenian trade offers, as they accepted Volta-Solvan trade offers. +2000G a turn.

THE GWANGNAN DOMINION

Dreadnoughts will be ready by 1892.

A new fighter will be prepared for 1895.

Airborne equipment will be ready for 1890.

Improved fighter engines will be ready for 1891.

THE ARCHDUCHY OF ANDROS-BELLICA

Reinzo warmly thanks the Archduchy, affirming that he is a man with the utmost respect for tradition and the status quo. No Red Menace shall rise to the Archduchy’s north while he rules in Greater Modevia.

Infrastructure in Andros-Bellica is heavily damaged, and it will take more than a paltry sum to improve the state of the roads and rails.

Tanks will be available by 1891.

Radios will be available for 1890.

Bombers will be available for 1890.

THE PHILOSOPHATE OF ARPINIUM

The Football League proves to be very popular, and money is generated from the events. +2000G per turn.

Although these gestures are made, it does not prevent tempers running hot or high - the first game of the new year ends in a riot after a particularly bad referee’s decision, resulting in the death of a small child when he is trampled by the mob.

The colonial expedition is forced to turn back, unsuccessful, when the sea starts to eat through the bottom of the ships.

3000G is raised in fundraisers across the known world, to aid in repairing some of the worst damages.

THE GRAND PRINCIPALITY OF CUMBERLAND

Dreadnoughts will become available to the Royal Navy in 1894.

And quickly they come… (Discord)

TIERRA ROJA

Professors quickly begin to return, in order to save themselves a visit from the Custodians!

Always road building instead of partying - I though El Presidente offered a better life than that!!

The Galeta will be ready for 1891.

The Serpiente will be ready for 1890.

THE JUVERIN REPUBLIC

Massive infrastructure developments result in far improved national logistical capabilities in the Republic. +1 development level.

THE KARAKHWA

Vitraium mechanics are a complex and difficult thing to work with, especially for the largely uneducated Karakhwa. 1897 is a rough estimate.

Into the unknown… (Discord)

The Iron Dogs have yet another year of bloody treasure to show for their work. +8000G

Cloud Hunter turns her savage eyes to the Western Neighbors of the Karakhwa. (Discord)

The Klendari prove more capable at defending their trade lanes than their lands, but still the Karakhwa have many takings this year. +6000G

The Archduchy of Andros-Bellica

as it was the Year of Our Lord, 1889

YEAR IN REVIEW, 1889

-+-

5 Jan. | The Ministry of Commerce announces its yearly expenditures, this time on the postwar buildup of international trade. Depots are to be built in Bellograd, Andrograd, Poval, and Klennetsboro to better accommodate this influx.

3 Mar. | After reevaluation, the influx of commercial district cash has resulted in enough money to fund a new Civilian Industry sector in Bellograd. As such, beginning March, the buildup of sound stages and studios for aspiring film-makers begins in the Bellogradic neighborhood of Briartown. The Crown itself commissions a movie to be made here, once finished – a tale of heroism in the Great War, the patriotic story of Field Marshal Hugo Linden’s ironwall defense of the Bellic Front against the forces of the Free Provinces. Thought to be an impossible feat during the war, his ingenious defense-in-depth strategy allowed the Bellicans to hold off wave after wave of attacks!

5 May | The majority of Bellican troops begin to move towards their border with the newly-minted CSAC and take up defensive stations, obviously wary of the Communist state. They do, however, send a telegraph across the border, assuring that no offensive action shall be taken so long as the peoples of Andros and Bellica are left to live peacefully, and that this movement is only conflict deterrence.

6 May | The Andros-Bellican government approves 2.000 ABM towards the construction of bunkers along the long riverline border. They make it very, abundantly clear to the Anaerin Cantons that this is a precautionary measure that Andros-Bellica takes whenever there is a major regime change, and that they bear no ill-will towards the Red Menace newly freed Socialist State.

Roleplay:

The Year had proven to be a disaster for the Grand Prince moving into blunder after blunder though largely down to the advice of his Council of Ministers it looked bad for the Prince in general. However they had managed to secure the CEF from the encirclement and are able to bolster their domestic forces for the year and have the eyes of the Communists be averted from the Principality. To this effect both Winston Townsend and Lancelot Stern come up with a new strategy to limit the damages of the year and the gains made by the Communists, Winston Townsend begins a mass propaganda campaign using the arms of the Military to do so, while the Chancellor would enact internal economic reforms to begin seeing the class divide within Cumberland begin to shrink and allow for social movement.

The Army get the entire expansion budget in the Military for the year due to the pressing needs to have an army that can defend the crossing between Cumberland and The CSAC, tanks are produced to this effect learning from the examples set during the Civil War. It is hoped by recruiting as many regulars as possible that any uprising from the CCP would be an impossibility at least that was the hope of the Army and Navy. New defensive plans are drawn up for a full defensive line and potential fallback lines within Cumberland in the event of a Communist uprising and potential CSAC intervention.

Actions

One Commercial District would be constructed in the newly founded City (10,000)

Two Armoured Brigades of Medium Tanks would be constructed. (16,000, 6AP)

Using the Industrial capacity of the Juverin Republic with the best equipment available. (48,000, 8AP)

Propaganda would be spread by the Ministry of Information at the behest of Winston Townsend promoting Nationalism, Faith and Monarchism as opposed to Communism. This is an attempt to turn around the last year of humiliation and paint it in a different light as foreign influence as opposed to domestic incompetence. (14,000) (Mod)

Chancellor Lancelot would implement reforms within the Country itself in order to liberalise the economy and allow the share of wealth to attempt to stabilise across class barriers through the use of more free market concepts. The main goal of these reforms are to seek the ability to increase meritocracy and social movement. (20,000) (Mod)

Research into Dreadnoughts is continued. (1RP, Due 1894)

THE COMMONWEALTH OF VALDEK

Year 1889

The large cargo bay doors to The Golden Horn sputtered and creaked, before giving away to the mechanism and sliding open. A single figure stepped through the large opening, wasting no time to enter through the space which would normally be overflowing with crates and shipping containers. As he stepped through, the doors once more begun creak and sputter, sending a crackle and flash of sparks from one of the exposed panels through the air, before finally closing behind him.

The space was littered with scattered crates and improvised quarters. Tables strewn throughout the space seated a variety of characters, talking among themselves, eating, or pouring over maps. Along the west wall, several men had constructed a basic firing range, shooting at cans and thick target plates.

“Savik!” A voice called from the eastern portion of the bay. The voice’s owner stood, a ragged man with a thick gray beard which spilled over a bulbous and weather breastplate. He swayed a bottle in his hand and beckoned towards him. “Join us!”

He pushed through miscellaneous bags and past scattered beds as he approached the man. Pulling out a chair he sat. “I did not expect to find you here, friend. We believed you’d been pushing up the daisies for years now!”

“Not yet! And who am I to complain? Kovik has called for the Ketch to gather, who am I to refuse!” “Have we yet learned the purpose of this gathering?” “No.. but I do not expect good news, friend, Kovik did not sound pleased..” the statement was followed by a steady increase of murmurs and whispers, not only at the table, but at the surrounding ones.

Savik rose from his seat, draining the last of the glass he had only just received. “Let us then discover!” He swiped up the rifle resting along the edge of the table, marching off towards the stairway leading further up into The Golden Horn.

The freighter lurched and shuttered as Savik climbed the stairs. The engines roared outside the bay as the vessel slowly lifted into the air…

Following the humiliating terms agreed to with the CSAC, the political situation within the Commonwealth had deteriorated rapidly. The current, moderate government attempted to, but could not hope to contain the overflow of radicalism which spilled out.

In streets all across the nation, thousands took to protesting. Demanding reform, retaliation, violence, the resignation of the Campbell administration and everything in between. Where the protest and insurrection sprouted, mass violence followed. In only several days hundreds of counts murders, arson, assault, etc were documented. In only a few days, the country had become bloated with radicalism. The streets filled with Fascists, Royalists, and Communist movements alike, hacking each other to pieces.

In an attempt to calm the violence, the government ordered the military deployed across the entire country. The city of Ceylon, in particular, where monarchist presence was almost absolute…

The I Mechanized Corp, under the command of L.G. Acton Moore, deployed to stabilize the city. They were to swiftly take positions, and move to contain the protests and separate violent groups. However, it was not to be. The Commonwealths most elite and prestigious troops were welcomed with cheering crowds into the city. Only hours would pass until the government in Cesan was alerted.

Fed up with the weakness of the administration, the entire Corp has defected to the Royalist cause, inviting the exiled Emperor to the city, and proclaiming the restoration of the Empire. Before a proper response had even been organized, the vast majority of the army had mutinied in support of the royalists, including the recently returned VEF which currently occupied the capital of Cesan.

In order to prevent a second civil war, and further devastation, the government in Cesan almost entirely resigned. In the weeks following, the formation of a Royalist-Fascist coalition solidified the position of the restoration. Certain coercions brought upon by other parties greatly assisted in the acceptance of Royalist rule in many of the other cities of the Commonwealth. The Emperor returned to the country shortly after, assuming the throne with an elaborate parade and accompanying ceremony in the capital. A ‘National Assembly’ was created in order to perform legislative duties, and assist in the management of the Empire.

The winds of change had roared through Valdek, and its future is uncertain...

1889

A busy workroom is at its peak hour. Men in uniform are nearly catastrophically colliding into each other, gliding across the floor to hastily try and make ends meet, yelling orders across one another, carrying telegrams back in forth to different parts of the high command. One particular young man, is carrying a bound stack of papers, covered by a forest green covering, the colour signifying a directive from the Office of the Chief Minister.

The man knows the destination of these, they all go to the office of General Badias. And so, like any other soldier following orders, he completes them to the best of his ability. The men of the military respect Badias, he represents a heroic, highly moral, honour-bound type of general garners much admiration from the infantry cadre. As such, his soldiers do not have the same fear many others have for him, they hold him in highly esteemed and respected, almost venerated by some regiments.

As such, it was a particularly normal encounter for the soldier. The struck thrice on the door, and he  calmly cries from within. “Enter.” The man opens the door, and strides in, standing at attention to the General. “Stand at ease.” He states, quickly glancing up at the soldier, before returning his gaze back down to the papers strewn about on his table. He is standing, in deep thought on something. Papers are laid about everywhere, but there is order to his madness. They are neatly and well stacked, and placed, seemingly, with a meaning. He extends his hands, waiting for the correspondence, which compels the soldier to move forward and hand it to him. The soldier places the pack of papers on his hand, and steps back, standing at attention once more. “Dismissed, soldier.” the General says, eagerly unraveling the cover paper. The soldier leaves the room, and quietly shuts the door. The hallway is dead quiet, no one traverses this hallway regularly, out of decency and respect. He walked away, continuing with his labors and chores. In the distance, through the wall, he heard quiet the ruckus, an enranged fit, occurring behind the wall. Out of character for Badias, he stops and pauses for a minute, glancing back at the door, but he continues on his way, out of sheer respect for his General, and not a word to anyone else.

“That honourless, idiotic, dog…” Badias quakes as he quickly flips through the packet, dropping paper after paper on the floor. “Savage!” he cries launching the thick pack of paper across the room, and flipping the table over, kicking it with his right foot. He sits back, hands on his waist, watching the chaos he caused before him. The General waited for the storm of papers to quiet down, giving time for his temper to cool off. He eyes a lone glossy black cabinet, in the corner of a room, and the sword placed atop it. The moment the last sheet comes to a rest, he storms over the blanket of papers on the floor. Upon the cabinet lies a sheathed curved sword, in the traditional Nephite style. He grasps it, flipping it over, looking at the art on the sheath. The entirety of the sheath was a canvas, it was all one artwork depicting ancient myths and legends dating back to before the Aaronian era. The sheath was made of snake skin, black as night, and glossy like the table under it. He put his hand on the sheath, made of ivory, inlain with golden lions chasing each other, traveling around the hilt until its point, where a lions head nobly lay. He slowly pulled out the sword, and he read the exquisite calligraphy on the blade of the sword. ‘HONORBOUND’, it read. He understood his calling, his obligation, he was in all essence, a soldier, honour, and morality, compels all soldiers, including himself, to follow them.

Badias returns to character, brushing a few hairs that had gone out of place, pressing down his uniform, and adjusting the collar. He placed the sabre at his side, on his hilt, and from within the cabinet , he grabs a leather holster, an ivory butt of a revolver sticking out, and places it opposite to the sword. He opens the door, and began striding out towards his men. Duty has obligated him to act now, he must begin. Within the envelope, the Chief Minister had ordered him to mobilize the Army. He complied, and did so.

With a brief statement to the offices of the High Command, General Badias started a frenzy in the office. The Caliphate had entered a state of war with the Free Junta, and it was time to be introduced into the horrors of modern warefare.

The Caliphate contracts  the services of a famed engineer and owner of a large industrial manufacturer in the nation, Hiram Malek, to manufacture a cheap, efficient, semi-automatic rifle to outfit the pride of the nation- the army. Currently the military utilizes an outdated bolt-action, that has served the military well in its time, however with the changing times, upgrades are necessary.

GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA

In the face of total destruction of Corvinist forces, Praharavkan attachees and military observers were quickly withdrawn from the Confederacy. Praharavka had gambled, and they had bet wrong. Cards were being played and measures were being explored to potentially lend aid Corvin and his loyalists - prematurely recognizing his government’s legitimacy. However, these plans were quickly shattered as Corvin’s advance stalled at the Communist capital at Aranak.

New has reached hard and fast - of the collapse of Corvinist forces and the fall of Hunthelm. The Anarein Civil War truly was over. The conflict’s victor was less than optimal, with the Confederate Socialist Anarein Cantons rising in its place - now, a major player in the Communist Bloc. Even worse, the prized armour designs Praharavka so desperately sought were solely in the hands of the CSAC. Being no fool, Praharavka needed to act quickly to continue the mechanization of their armed forces. Although overshadowed by the spending reserved for the PRAC, a new wave of tanks and armored personnel carriers rolled off the assembly lines - with it, a whole new slew of recruits.

As the Armoured Corps slowly began to take shape, it was determined that five tanks would comprise a tank platoon, with five platoons comprising a regiment, and 4 regiments comprising a brigade. With Praharavka’s limited supply of vehicles, tanks remain as tactical assets, perhaps being incorporated into proper divisions in the near future.

In the meantime, Army High Command seeks to witness firsthand the tactics they had so devised and toiled upon for months. Elements from all branches of service are pulled to Pavlovsk Proving Grounds to participate in Praharavka’s First Annual Wargames. Though designed to increase battle readiness and efficiency for the Armed Forces, the event boiled down to an aggressive battle of influence between the Army and Navy - both who sought to steal the day and prove their status as the superior branch. Nevertheless, lines are drawn, and observers make note of weaknesses and strengths alike, while potential recruits determine which arm of the service they are destined for.

Further iterations of this experiment would be need to be refined for the future. Perhaps it was time to look externally for other participants. At least then could the two services turn their rivalry outward.

A conflict of interest between the Leg Infantry and the Armored Cavalry! While the Armored Cavalry requests additional funds for rapid and lightweight cavalry tanks to keep pace with the motorized troops, the Infantry fears that such vehicles will be unable to weather the modern weapons of war. The War Ministry, for now, agrees with the Foot, allocating resources to the R&D of a next-gen heavy tank!

Gwangnan Dominion

With the start of a new year marked a very rarely seen event in Gwangnan. A succession crisis, several wars, and an unstable regime has led down a treacherous path. For centuries the peasants and Imperial Family had lived in harmony. The Tetsuo clan were born administrators and diplomats. Years of training and Imperial upbringing brought each new generation into the mantle of rule. In stark contrast was the lesser Yukiko clan. Many of them were generals and officers, skilled to fight and maim. They had always served under the yoke of Imperial rule like every other clan. Their one claim was their ancestors had married with the Tetsuo clan, forming Gwangnan. But the Great War showed outdated notions barely survive in the test of combat. With a changing world, the Dominion had remained stagnate. While other monarchies reform, the Yukiko clan has been repressing and killing.

The culmination of all this has led to the Imperial Assembly of 1889. The Yukiko clan was aware of their lack of enough power to truly seize it. And so they are forced to call for a Government meeting. One allowing even the lower classes. Though the IGN was loyal under Miyoshi, the IGA was dubious. Karwarkami Adachi had led them, though perhaps not well. But they were a hotbed of trouble and revolutionary ideas. The Kandistani wars had proven that. Every night men died, or were captured. Many had exchanged news and goods, perhaps even ideas. The Military all together, even if loyal, was insufficient for the task. Gwagnan is a nation of millions upon millions.

The Aristocrats were a more complex matter. Some were all together done with the Tetsuo/Yukiko rule. Great Lords and small alike eyed the empty throne. Some even were growing in support, and strutted into the Conference Halls in full pomp. Many others still were hardline loyalist. Either to the dead Tetsuo clan, or the Yukiko Generals. But a troubling mass were in the middle, or against a continue Imperial rule. With this on all their shoulders, they file into the Chambers.

Last, considered least, but in the greatest mass, were the Gwangnanesse on lower rungs of society. Few had any noble blood, or were of mixed blood. But excluding the Priest, Nobles, and Imperial Family, they called for most of Gwangnan. Business and Factory owners, Rich business men with no nobility except for gold. But there was also their employees, and masses of workers. Many farmers and tenants from the rice fields also formed a good bulk. Though the peasantry lived on very low rungs, the cities and towns were mostly educated. Though dirt poor, Gwangnan valued its’s Education and Aviation above all else. Many had formed small parties, or pacts.

With this swirling mass of representatives from all provinces, comes chaos. The Nobility and Imperials box themselves off in comfortable high up seats. Above the roiling mass of Peasantry in the central chambers and benches. The Yukiko clan in their entirety lined chairs facing them all. Though Gwangnan was historically hardline monarchist, many parties have been festering. Especially after the horror and defeat of the Great War and Mountain war. By and far the largest opposition was two very different parties. The GCP [Gwangnanesse Communist Party] was a giant amongst the lower rungs of Gwangnan. But many liberal students, thinkers, and farm tenants were learning quick from the 1st Internationale’s creed. Though they lacked a true universal agreement on Communism, many leftist and socialist agreed on the basic principals. They all wanted land, peace, and rice.

image.jpg?rendition=image480

Their opponent is the White Lotus party. It is comprised of several lesser Yukiko and aristocratic families. They opposed their more expansive cousins trying to seize the Throne. They instead idolized Corvin and his power in the former Free Provinces. The Communist were their natural enemy, but they also wanted the Yukiko ruling to go down with them. The middle and democrats were largely divided, lacked focus, and were being bought off.

The parties big and small convened on and off for over half the year. More and more the different classes and ideologies were butting heads. Prominent members of all the parties were rising into the spotlight. Shiraishi Moriko of the GCP was a stunning actress in the capital. She performed operas and plays with her peers. But she was a avid activist,  and amongst the inner circle of many revolutionary thinkers. Many times she stood against men like Shibata Yukiko, and preached equality. Hiroshimo Miyazaki of the Lotus was their own “Little Corvin”. He tried to emulate a mannerism of a Imperial conqueror. But he was a small man, with squinty black eyes. His ruthless streaks in the underworld and military had solidified his true power however. The Yukiko’s like Shibata and Miyoshi represented their families interest.

But as the arguments wore on one thing was clear. With the Tetsuo clan gone, the Yukiko’s reign of autocracy and repression had caught up. More and more they were sidelined, or swayed to change sides. The GCP and White Lotus continued to grow and expand their influence beyond the conference halls. Eventually the political debates came to very heated points. Shibata Yukiko ordered the halls cleared, and the conference closed. Due to no progress, the Yukiko’s in a final bid for power order the talks over. They will rule as they have been, allowing for a new government to be drafted in five years. The IGA is tasked to clear the Hall and secure the Capital.

But as the massed crowds of angry men and women struggle against the troops and police, a pistol shot rings out. A police officer had been wrestled to the ground, and his weapon taken. Shibata Yukiko is hit in the stomach, slumping into his chair. A bold GCP man continues to advance, lining the pistol up. In that time as a last resort, Shibata pulled a gun and fired hastily. A massive roar spilt the chamber, and the bullet sailed over the assassins shoulder. The person it hits head disintegrates, falling with a dull thump. Pale faced, the assassin is swarmed in a mass of his fellow members. IGA troops start firing blindly into the crowd and GCP, while other try to help or even return fire. In the chaos everyone pours out of the hall, their ears ringing from the shots.

171116-warren-vietnam-tease_wxtryz

After so much, Gwangnan had finally been tipped to the point of change. As the Yukiko clan crumbles under the loss of their leader, and the animosity of everyone else, new powers rise. The White Lotus rightly cast the blame of Shibata on the GCP’s doorstep. They retaliate he was about to seize power, and expel both parties. But words were quickly becoming not enough. Firm leadership from the GCP, and prepared organization, gave them a massive head start. It was suspected from the start the Tetsuo clan was catering to the masses, in a bid to contest the Yukiko’s old grip of power. Many revolutionary thinkers had been patronized, and trained. Others had gone abroad to Kandistan and the USP, or even further. Most were educated, and knew how to cater in turn to the massed peasantry. These enlightened thinkers wished to usher in a new and modern age. One where the classes were erased.

The White Lotus though full of toughs, former Yukiko members, and aristocrats, was highly fractured. Many lords stick to their little mountains and land, fearing the peasants. The troops they do have are demoralized IGA remnants, or radical militia groups prone to slaughter and terrorize.  They practically have to force peasants to farm and behave at gunpoint. This fear, distrust, and hate, sparks a quick and decisive series of skirmishes and fights.

The more disciplined GCP launch preemptive strikes on the White Lotus. A string of assassinations, beatings, and attacks begins. Bands of troops launch strikes into Lotus armories and garrisons. Millions upon millions of peasants also rise up in revolt. Centuries of misrule has led to deeply bound hate. A red wave begins to envelop Gwangnan, as the GCP announces it will hold a Convention at the start of the new decade, 1890.

Republic of Emmeria
1889

qaCpQfH.jpg

Communist Expulsion

With tensions rising across the globe and the Communist threat spreading across the continent. President Floyd Olson along with several other government officials see the international as a threat to any nation since they have only come to power through violence and massacre.

As such Emmeria by a majority vote has chosen to outlaw the practice and organization of Communist Political Groups. The ECP instead of being imprisoned or executed as some other countries have done will be exiled from Emmeria.

1889

The Emperor is sick. For over fifty years Gregor Oldbarrow, a man from an unknown land to our West has lived among us. He came a stranger, but proved to be the driving force that would unite our people. A foreigner he may be, but he inherited the very spirit of the land and the people that had lived on it for the infinite time past. And as he forged together what was meant to be together, he left none behind, but those who opposed the idea of unification and strength. Through these two elements of his rule, we came to peace and stability, prosperity and progress. And so, for the years to come, all was in balance.

Was.

The men at the top ranks of the governmental hierarchy are counting the days when their old monarch will at last leave for his last journey with the spirits of the world. Jun-Seo, the Imperial Successor has dreams and wishes he wants to pursue, directions where he wants to guide his country.  As it stands, he does hold the support of the majority of the leaders and nobles, which has secured his position. But a younger brother lives in the shadows and then there is always the Lord Dedicant Thomas Valence, a lifelong companion of the Emperor, loyal advisor and aide. Nobody has the Emperor’s ear like him.

These will be troublesome times coming up and the Empire of Syullin must prepare, or it may fall to foreign powers who prey upon their internal weakness that could manifest. Time will tell.

Actions:

Rapid industrial expansion is ordered by the Imperial Successor. Jun-Seo Sule-Bahk is unable to wait for his official succession and leverages his power as heir to the throne to push for investments in this regard. (1 Steel Mill, -2,500 Syl; 1 Civilian Industry complexes -5,000 Syl)

Following the growing demands of the Dedicants to increase the industrial capacity for military production the Prince obliges. That was something his father has been opposed to for the majority of his reign, as he was a scientist, and not a soldier. (1 Airshipyard -10,000 Syl; 1 Heavy Industry -7,500 Syl)

Another set of Mae-class corvettes leave the relatively new airshipyards. It has been only recently that the Empire of Syullin was able to establish functional engines for airship flight again. (-1 ASP, -2,000 Syl)

Joining the armed forces are a new brigade of infantry and light infantry, volunteer-based they shall bolster the defensive capabilities on the ground. (-2 AP, -13,000 Syl, Regular T3)

Long forgotten, the Houses of Harmony in the cities of the nation are refurbished and brought to pristine condition in order to fulfill their role in the society of the Empire of Syullin again. (6 Houses of Harmony, -15,000 Syl)

The remaining funds for this year are focused on the bureaucracy to prepare it for the planned aggressive infrastructure expansion by the Imperial Successor. (-4,000 Syl)

Diplomatic outreach is conducted to the neighbouring realms. (MOD)

The Corvettes are sent on exploration through the skies, to cartograph the region, now proper, and see if there are other nations sharing this frontier as well. (MOD)

As per directive of the Lord Dedicant, the Armed Forces start drilling and maneuvers in order to maintain and improve their expertise. (MOD)

Research (Passive 3 slots + 10% bonus):

The old Longhorn Rifles brought over (with schematics even, probably to be able to reproduce them as needed) from the Old World have proved outdated and very clunky. Whilst there was originally no need to improve upon the ol’ reliable, the Dedicants deem it suitable to upgrade the general equipment, introduce standardization and allow for easier construction of infantry rifles, as the Longhorns were mostly made by hand, with only a few steps automated. They wish to call it the Bohoja Rifle.

(Started 1889, a new bolt-action rifle to replace the predecessor from the Old World)

The improvement of agricultural methods has been a longstanding issue with the Empire. Whilst mostly forgotten due to other more important “concerns”, a new wind to push projects regarding optimal crop rotation and soil retention has come from nobody else than the Empress herself. Having a garden herself, where she grows vegetables for her family and most importantly for her dying husband, it is a very personal topic to her. By her claims, good soil gives good crops. Good crops are inhabitated by good spirits that give good life essence to the people, to prolong their lives and increase their fertility, making them strong and healthy as a whole.

(Re-started 1889, after six years of “pause”)

In order to not only increase the capacity, but also the speed of transportation for wares and people across the growing Empire of Syullin, a new train engine is to replace the old fashioned coal powered models. Vitramite comes in mind as a potential candidate.

(Started 1889)

Communication over long distances proves to be still difficult. The wiring is often faulty and outdated, the cables not always capable of resisting the unregular electricity from the power grids of the nation. So, Project Bosang, is meant to streamline and optimize these grids of the nation. Starting with Voltage, Ampere, et cetera, they are to eliminate and unify the methods of generating power as well as bringing them up to par, so that the cables (and other devices of course) may not suffer the same issues they had in the past.

(On Hold)

The Carnelian Sultanate

Hi6K1ssP-hQGAS0e8RsF2IPsCm7pef6oD-C2KZQxUOcZbEL8j3ZPACaPpwsbbcvcaPvQ5sX1KubJsZxzQnSuQ-H19kWPwpxJiJPqMYQZla8ja7rZQXNxlMlnVNaDxNlS8Vy5adra

In his private chambers, Abdul sat before a warm fire, thinking. He had adjusted well to his rank. Well enough, anyway. His advisors were more than happy to take up the many responsibilities he had no interest in, and he was free to pursue less public aims. Many thought him weak. He hardly cared. So long as the people were with him, he was only as weak as he chose to be.

It had taken bribery, deception and threats, but at last Abdul felt like he was beginning to understand. His brother’s killer had been named Yuliqa Madik, an enforcer for the Carnelian royal police. Klendari-born, she’d moved to Port Carnelian as a child, and crossed the border before the war to enter the Sultan’s service. But the woman had always been loyal. Still, Abdul was confused.

He’d had her belongings confiscated, her correspondence brought to him in secret. Through the war, she somehow managed to keep in contact with her family, but there was no trace of disloyalty. To the contrary: it seemed as if she’d known Abdul’s brother quite intimately. The two had been seen together in the back alleys of Sard, in the gardens of the palace, with the troops on the front lines. They were nearly inseparable by the end of the war, and afterwards until about two weeks before the murder. At that point, she was barely mentioned in any records.

Abdul had sorted through his brother’s journals and found nothing, apart from a passing mention of her being angry about something. The more he dug, the less he found, and slowly he began to convince himself that there was nothing complex at work here. Mehmet was dead because of an angry lover, and so was his father. The idea ate at him, too meaningless to satisfy.

He hungered for answers even when it seemed there were none, and it was that which led him to discover Plan 32. Yuliqa only spoke of it once, in a heated letter which was only paraphrased in Mehmet’s journal. There was no record of it amongst the war plans of the time, and Abdul had to enlist the help of his secret police even to confirm it even existed. But it was real, and slowly the Sultan began to piece it together: Mehmet IV had planned to purge Port Carnelian of Klendari. Suddenly, the murder made sense. Yuliqa had targeted the Sultan to protect her family, and somehow she had found local communists happy to help her. Perhaps Abdul’s brother had been in on the plan. Perhaps he was collateral damage.

But tonight, Abdul still could not rest. Plan 32 was classified at the highest possible level. Most of Mehmet’s cabinet had not known. How, then, could Madik possibly have found out? Had she stumbled upon it, or had someone told her? And as he thought on it, Abdul became more and more convinced of the latter. His house was full of snakes, as it always had been, and he could not be satisfied until he’d made them pay for their crimes.

Foreign Policy

[Baresh - 6 AP] - Aiming to bolster its southern ally, the sultanate puts much of its industry to work in supplying the kingdom’s army with modern equipment. Crates marked with the Carnelian crest soon begin shipping along the rail line, equipping the Bareshi with the latest rifles, machine guns, and other valuable weapons.

[CSAC] - Having kept itself neutral on northern affairs until now, the sultanate recognizes the victor of the Anaerian civil war despite their...ideological differences. Carnelian diplomats are soon sent to establish an embassy, making it clear that the normalization of relations with the north is their greatest priority.

The Karakhwa

The deck was still awash with blood when Heart of Iron called forth for the Ritual of Home.

Solomon stepped over a corpse, it’s face blown away by buckshot. Little desert flies, their backs green and their wings black, were already crawling over the flesh and a heavy stink rose from the body as it burned beneath the unforgiving desert sun. He wrinkled his nose and looked away as bile burned the back of his throat. With a grunt, Solomon wiped at his lips. It wasn’t the bodies that evoked the roiling nausea in the pit of his stomach, no, he had seen far worse in the moving city.

“I have killed my kin,” he said as his boots slapped through the blood.

Two braves walked past him, holding a body. It was an officer, one of the last men to surrender his pistol to Solomon in the bridge. He could still remember his face, marred by a deep glare as he thrust his pistol into Solomon’s hands with a muttered ‘traitor’. That man hadn’t feared death, and now he had been welcomed into its embrace with the same dignity  and disdain with which he had dealt with surrender. A small frown crossed his pale lips, and the only stain on his uniform came from a neat hole in his abdomen. Even his white gloves were nearly pristine.

The braves heaved him over the edge of the ship, letting his body fall to the ground far below.

Every brave that had fought on the ship was now gathered in front of the superstructure, where Heart of Iron stood on a secondary gun turret, leaning heavily on his cane and swaying with the gentle rocking of the ship. He looked down at them all, his eyes meeting Solomons for a brief instant. Cold, distant.

“You have honored Yotal,” said Heart of Iron, his gruff voice rumbling across the deck like distant thunder. The crowd of braves stilled like an audience of cumberlandish children at a play, their eyes fixed on the Warchief. “You have honored your tribes. Yotakal, Usso, Isissopo, Ashastawa, Muhowk. Only Yotal knows the first man to set foot upon this ship, and I am but a man.”

Many a nod, a few mumbles of assent. Solomon nodded with them. It was clear that no one had expected Heart of Iron to give the ship to a first boarder. It was too important of a home, to big of a boarding party. A few people looked in his direction and Solomon felt a tight knot of excitement in his gut. He had been the one to take the captain prisoner, the one to take the bridge. Would this be his chance to prove himself?

“As such, I must chose a brave who fought his way through the many halls of this ship, letting blood and showing bravery in Yotal’s gaze. Many a mudman was claimed his courage, and I can do nothing but try to reward him, as Yotal will reward him in the Second Skies.”

Solomon almost lurched forward then, a smile on his lips.

“Step forward, Chases Fire, of my Iron Dogs, and take that which is yours by the right of bravery, blood and Yotal.”

———

Heart of Iron held court in the mess hall of his ship when it came to public affairs. The central fireplace would cut his shadow out of the air like solid obsidian as he stood before it, speaking on the affairs of the Yotakal tribe and the Karakhwa people as a whole.

For more private affairs, he preferred the open airs, where Yotal could bear witness to the whispered words and perfidious plots, and judge them accordingly.

Cloud Hunter had seen it all as a child, heard him explain to her why he did this or that, and she had rolled her eyes with youthful arrogance. Today, she would still have rolled her eyes, if Heart of Iron had not been looking straight at her, standing at the prow of his heavy cruiser.

“Who is he?”

“Who is who,” said Cloud Hunter, crossing her arms and looking at him with a raised eyebrow.

“Your new ship-father.”

“One of my tribesmen, a good man.”

“A man who hides his face.”

“Some cannot live with the shame of being so scarred,” replied Cloud Hunter with a small shrug. “You judge men by their looks now?”

Heart of Iron lifted a hand and gave her a small frown. It pulled a small feeling of shame out of something deep within Cloud Hunter’s mind and she glared at him, her jaw tightening, at if to gnash down on the unwanted emotion. She wasn’t a damn child anymore.

“Cloud Hunter, I have heard troubling things about your behaviour over the past years.”

“I am warchief of the Hasse, you do not have the right to judge my behaviour,” she snapped, her fingers clenching at her biceps tightly.

“No, but I can warn you,” he said, relaxing a bit and giving her a tired, worried look.

“My father before me was wild as you are. A man who spilled blood so willingly that eventually, it was all that he could see.” Heart of Iron sighed and leaned on the railing. Such a flimsy wooden protection. So easy to tip him over. “He stopped loving my mother, barely recognized me anymore. He could dream only of blood, plunder and battle. So violent was he, that eventually the Sultan of Carnelia had him imprisoned, judged and executed.”

For a moment, he said nothing, his eyes drifting away from Cloud Hunter, and into the horizon where his father sailed the second skies, free of his earthly anchors. “I miss him, and I still care for him, but I do not mourn him,” said Heart of Iron eventually, turning back to her and laying the full force of his authority upon her. “Do not end up like him, lest history repeat itself.”

Cloud Hunter took a step forward and leaned down until she was looking him straight in the eyes. “I am Cloud Hunter of the Hasse, and I will never let myself be taken by some mudmen, to be judged and killed like a mud-ridden dog.” Did he really think so little of her, that she would allow herself to be taken alive by those she could raid so easily?

“That was not the point of the story, child,” said Heart of Iron, disappointment flashing in his eyes.

“Then speak plainly, or speak to me no more.”

Another deep sigh, held within as if ruminated, then blown out again. “Very well. You will go to explore the unknown seas with the caravan this year. Refuse and I will invoke my right as Warchief of all Karakhwa to exile you to the mud.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” said Cloud Hunter, reeling back and glaring at him, her face twisted into a furious mask.

“I will do what I must,” snapped Heart of Iron, his voice ringing like a hammer on hot iron. “Do as you are told, clear your head of your bloodlust, and return to me again,” he said, his voice dropping back into an almost begging tone. “Return to me as the woman I once knew.”

Actions

-Kiss the Sun returns to the new world, followed by a fleet of 1 Battlecruiser, 5 destroyers, 1 Yotal’s Hawk, 4 corvettes and a freighter filled with the equipment necessary to start up some simple industrial practices such as fuel production, etc. (1 Battlecruiser, 5 destroyers, 1 Yotal’s Hawk, 4 corvettes, 1 Freighter)

-Raiders hit the Valdek this year. They are led by Chases Fire in his ship, the Solar Flare. 1 Yotal’s Hawk, 4 corvettes and 3 destroyers will probe the Valdek for weaknesses, seeking to raid their border towns, mines, or settlements. Wind Devil’s have replaced all marine groups, and are to be used if capturing freighters or warships is possible. The Yotal’s Hawk will obviously be used to scout extensively. (1 Yotal’s Hawk, 3 Destroyers, 4 Corvettes)

-The Klendari raids are conducted by Shadow of the Day in the cruiser The Red Petal. He will target schools, universities, to kill professors first, then students. The goal is to create a long-term brain-drain. The rest of the fleet will raid as before. Alltogether; (2 Cruisers, 3 Destroyers, 5 Corvettes.)

-Solomon participates in the Klendari raids, but his eyes are on the western horizon, and his thoughts troubled. Something pulls him to the west, to the open seas...

-The repairs to the newly captured battlecruiser, the Spirit of Blood, are finished.

-AA emplacements, bunkers, torpédo launch stations and cannons begin to be dispersed in Yotal's Throne and the area around it within the mountains, to create a network of defensive positions burrowed within the mountains that would deter even the bravest. This is only the first step of the project, named Project Armadillo. (7.500g invested.)
