The_Mad_Skylord 28 Author Share Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) STEEL HORIZON 1889 1889 is a year of growing colonial and imperial goals and agendas. With growing expeditions into recently discovered territories and with some states already making great demands of the “savages”. Volta-Solvan takes great steps to secure her own hegemony over the New World. In an action that wildly escalates the ongoing Naval Arms Race, the government of Volta-Solvan orders 4 new dreadnoughts and 2 new battlecruisers, along with a dozen destroyers, to be laid down in a new naval bill. Furthermore, in mid-1889, the Western Skies Trading Company (WSTC) is officially founded, with major government funding. The WSTC is a chartered company, and they are guaranteed exclusive rights to all Volta-Solvanese trading to be done in the west. Another cause of alarm is the dispatch of the South-Western Sky Squadron of the Volta-Solvanese Navy, under Vice-Admiral Rolf Henningsen, to Koibita, where the example of Valdek is followed. In August, 1889, Volta-Solvan forcefully gains exclusive trade rights in the southern Koibita states, and establishes a significant territory in the region, apparently a ‘trading port’. As a result, naval arms construction leaps wildly. The Klendari Sultanate, though alarmed at the mass capital ship production of Volta-Solvan, opts for a different strategy. With the ongoing Karakhwan raids, the new Minister of the Air - Admiral Arslan Pasha - opts to construct 4 CL and 16 new destroyers, in the hope of preventing the ongoing and damaging raiding. Greater Modevia - under the egotistical dictator, Enrico Reinzo - is not one to be left behind, and the Greater Modevia Sky Fleet has a major budget increase, and lays down 3 new BBs, accompanies by 8 DDs. The USP, champions of international socialism, matches this naval investment with 3 BBs and 8 DDs of their own. In the east of the Northern Continent, continued rivalry between Grenheim and Estfeld see each lay down a dreadnought - the first ever to be domestically built in either country. Perzah, challenged by continued Carnelian naval construction and expansion, opts to purchase a dreadnought of their own as well, commissioning it from a Klendari shipyard. The CSAC, never famous for air fleet power, opts to begin the construction of a significant short range torpedo attack ship flotilla - building 15 corvettes. Only Pozharin, still wracked with instability and financial insecurity, builds nothing this year. Great victories have been had for the People over this past decade, with both Verna and the Anaraein Confederacy freed from capitalist rule. The United Socialist Pact - the great bastion of communism - announces to the world another red victory. After extensive talks and negotiations, the Peoples’ Republics of Turmensk, Holgograd and Kandistan have agreed to merge with the USP. The Confederation of Northern Socialist Republics (CNSR) is formed on December 24th, 1889, presenting another challenge to the old powers of this world. In the south, Klendari reforms have continued, along with what is termed a “great diplomatic revolution”. While the Carnelians continue to build upon the Old Alliance with Baresh and Mejhai, the Klendari have successfully managed to enter into a series of negotiations with the Shahdom of Perzah. While no official agreement has yet been announced, it is obvious to the world that the Klendari seek to strategically and diplomatically isolate the Carnelians. One event from the south shocks the world, however. A suicide bomber, clearly with major benefactors, makes an attempt of General Hussein Pashik’s life. Pashik is, however, saved by the hand of fate. His most junior staff officer - Captain Tigin Ozmert - saw the bomber pull the trigger, and violently hauled Pashik to safety under a heavy wooden table, sheltering him as he did so. Ozmert, however, lost an arm from his heroics. Pozharin continues to be the world’s bastion of instability. After agreeing to hold elections, Tsar Laurent VI was relegated to the role of a constitutional monarch. Unfortunately, after four hung parliaments, the Tsar opted to completely disband whatever minority government had cobbled together, and instead appointed the Slavakor Pariov ( The “King and Country” Party) as the national government. The result is civil anarchy and unrest, with massed riots and protests all over the country. Dissent and division is deep in Pozharin these days, and the country is split between several opposing factions - the Monarchists, Fascists, Democrats, the various would be Army strongmen and the resurgent Communist Party of Pozharin. All sides are further arming themselves, and civil war seems inevitable, it requires only a spark to light the flame. Worse still is the suddenly reinforced CNSR positions along the River Izon, harking back to the Pozharin-Pact War of 1883. Many speculate that a Pozharin Civil War will not be particularly “civil”. The Confederation of Socialist Anaraein Cantons, with enemies on all sides, begins a major border fortification process. Upon completion, it is estimated that it will be the largest defensive line in the world - bordering Cumberland, Valdek, Andros-Bellica and Greater Modevia. Though the official name is the Rodeck Line, it has been nicknamed the “Steel Horizon”. The Global Times, an internationally published newspaper of great renown and integrity, has published an article on the state of the world, nearly ten years after the end of the Great War. They write that, despite terrible losses, promises of peace and disarmament, that the world is in fact more militarised than ever, with countries opting to expand rather than reduce their standing armies. They have compiled a list of the world’s largest standing armies; Tsardom of Pozharin - 50-70 divisions (500-700 thousand men) Greater Modevia - 50-60 divisions (500-600 thousand men) Confederation of Northern Socialist Republics - 40-50 divisions (400-500 thousand men) Confederation of Socialist Anaraein Cantons - 35-40 divisions (350-400 thousand men) Klendari Sultanate - 30-40 divisions (300-400 thousand men) Republic of Tormina - 15-21 divisions (150-210 thousand men) Republic of Sorent - 12-20 divisions (120-200 thousand men) Republic of Volta-Solvan - 10-20 divisions (100-200 thousand men) Vost Confederacy - 3-10 divisions (30-100 thousand men) Free Guilds of Estfeld - 3-9 divisions (30-90 thousand men) Commonwealth of Grenheim - 3-9 divisions (30-90 thousand men) Kingdom of Baresh - 3-9 divisions (30-90 thousand men) Kingdom of Mejhai - 3-9 divisions (30-90 thousand men) Peoples’ Republic of Verna - 2-8 divisions (20-80 thousand men) Perzah - 2-6 divisions (20-60 thousand men) Caliphate of Ozan - 2-6 divisions (20-60 thousand men) ARCHDUCHY OF ANDROS-BELLICA The small investment into border fortifications sees a number of small bunkers built, but nothing truly substantial that will stop any particularly determined attack. Andors-Bellica, always a place of great culture, sees a great influx of actors and directors. In 1889, the independent film “Homeland” is released, a patriotic tale of bravery and determination, detailing the defense of Andros-Bellica during the Great War. GRAND PRINCIPALITY OF CUMBERLAND Propaganda succeeds…. in creating division within the country. Communists, by no means a majority, flock to defend themselves from rampant fascist and nationalist attacks. The result is a series of riots that sees half of Randgritz burned to the ground. -10’000G, -1 Heavy Industry. There are objections by some, of course, but many citizens salute the Prince for his attempts to give the lower classes a chance to shine. COMMONWEALTH OF VALDEK The White Fleet rallies to repel Karakhwa raiders. (Discord) This anti-tank weapon is novel, and will be prepared by 1892. The submachine gun will be in general use for 1891. THE NAZR DYNASTY A quiet year for the ruling classes of this strange land. While the world turns suspicious eyes upon each other, this nation remains introverted, preferring internal investment to major geopolitical action. GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHARAVKA Pozharin, though in a state of disarray, accepts this proposal, in the hope of continuing close relations with Praha. Gas masks will be ready for 1891. The formation of a Praharavkan national team sparks a spree of interest across the country, and several professional football clubs spring up. There are calls for a league to be properly organised. GWANGNAN DOMINION Improved radios will be available by 1894. A year of much unrest for the Gwangnan people. Who knows what the future will hold. GALLIAN TRADE LEAGUE Radio will be ready by 1892. REPUBLIC OF EMMERIA The attempted expulsion and outlawing of Communism results in a fierce struggle between the CPE and the government. A surprisingly well equipped Communist revolt has broken out in northern regions, and the Kandistani loom threateningly across the border. (Discord) EMPIRE OF SYULLIN Syullin begins to expand on foreign policy. (Discord) Adventure awaits (Discord) Army manoeuvres do not prove to be particularly successful in modernising the army. Without foreign help, the only way to truly modernise is to fight. A new rifle will be ready by 1891. Better farming systems will drastically improve living conditions and food production. +0.01% growth starting from 1897. A new, faster and more efficient train will be ready for 1895. THE CARNELIAN SULTANATE The CSAC accept Carnelian envoys with surprising grace. They seem eager to open relations with the Carnelians. (Discord) TIERRA ROJA El Presidente jumps upon the exploration express! (Discord) Phillip’s new foremen, with their shiny guns and remarkably slashy whips, succeed in instilling some discipline in the labourers. +1 development by 1893. University modernisation goes ever onwards. Phillip needs to stop being so stingy with the pesos, declare his professors! THE KARAKHWA Klendari raids continue with savagery, though the new flotillas raised by Arslan Pasha do manage to repel and even sink some ships this year. +6000G -1 CA and 2 DDs The White Fleet seems surprisingly unhappy about the idea of Valdek being raided. (Discord) A fairly extensive network of defenses springs up around the city, as the Karakhwa make their home more defensible. First Phase finished by 1892. JUVERIN REPUBLIC The new P-22 design will be updated and ready for action by 1893. The Republic will have access to Dreadnoughts by 1894. THE VENZEATIC LEAGUE Venza sails onwards, looking for fresh lands and new peoples. (Discord) Edited December 13, 2019 by The_Mad_Skylord
bickando 3385 Share Posted December 13, 2019 The Archduchy of Andros-Bellica as it was the Year of Our Lord, 1890 YEAR IN REVIEW, 1890 -+- 3 Jan. | The Ministry of Commerce has approved the Archduchy’s plan of massive media investment; its 1890 budget includes a final trade depot in Lovken, but otherwise the majority of its budget goes to fulfilling the government’s promise to the newly arrived; 10.000 ABM of investment goes into the development of the entertainment industry in Bellograd, such as building studio lots, founding talent agencies and media groups, and investing in various productions. Furthermore, 10.000 ABM is set aside to build a Vitraium mine and refinery. 18 Jan. | The Throne puts its own budget into the industry; for 5.000 ABM, it begins to build up Briartown to be the entertainment capital it was always meant to be! New houses, paved roads, telegraph lines, and, most importantly, civilian radio frequencies, are approved throughout both the region of Briartown and the rest of the capital city. 30 Jun. | The Throne announces 5.000 ABM in sponsorship for the production of films; this year, it hopes prominent directors, producers, actors and other figures will apply to join the production of The End of an Era, a movie about the collapse of the Nikstranan monarchy of old, and the brutal end of the noblesse therein. The implication, of course, is that the communist and republican states ended an age of enlightenment, of grand balls and gilded halls, and that Andros-Bellica is among the only remaining bastions of that time. Towards the filming of the movie, the Palast Klennsburgh, a palace from Andros’ golden age of the 1600’s, is opened to the crews, and intricate manuals as to the lifestyles of both the Andros-Bellican nobility and Nikstranan nobility of the time are released from archive for their use. 15 Aug. | As the CSAC builds up the Steel Horizon, the Archduchy more than doubles its fortifications along the southern river-line [3.000 ABM], and a communications wire is opened with Modevia. 20 Aug. | 20.000 ABM is written off the books. 23 Aug. | Two steel mills begin construction in Andrograd, bringing its total to three. Devland99 180 Share Posted December 13, 2019 The Gallian Trade League Steddard’s Military corps sees its first dramatic policy change as it introduces the idea of conscripts as a sort of national guard for the border. Their only duty to patrol the outlying territories and slaughter any banditry or deal with disputes. To add onto this great deal of training, the man sells out his ship-yards to fund the development of a stronger torpedo for his corvettes. Gingerly these mentioned ships begin practicing escort formations and the likes preparing for their future duties of performing home-based security. Qavick Vitramite Industries expands once again with 8 more facilities dedicated to the production of the green wonder. Hundreds of thousands of civilians are hired to join the workforce and run its logistics most likely making Lord Qavick once again number one in the heads of the people. Their wages though leave much to be desired and any unions are quietly put down. The appearance of Amanda Wright Flights technologies is a surprise to the League, a wealthy woman with a knack for experimenting with Vitreamite technologies has started her own firm. No word of their first actual project is released to the public though as this year the company only seeked to gather up like-minded individuals. Krefarus 65 Share Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) THE EMPIRE OF VALDEK Year 1890 _________________________________________________ Savik pushed through the crowded and winding streets of Ceylon. An ancient city built long before the arrival of cars or trucks, it’s roads and streets were narrow, cramped and disorganized. Few knew how to get around, and even fewer knew the city well, mostly natives. Savik simply strode through the crowd, with the flow of traffic as a slight drizzle accumulated onto his cloak. Finally, he reached his destination. A small, run down looking building on the western section of the city. He slipped through the mass of bodies, finding himself on one of the few open ways, he knocked. Seconds past, tens of seconds, then a minute. He did not have time for this, Kovik’s words were precise, and clear. Just as he considered letting himself in, the door opened inward. A thin, starved looking man stood where the door once was, a pistol raised to Savik’s chest. Savik simply stepped through, ignoring the man. “He is here, I presume?” Savik inquired as he looked down at the man, his eyes peering through the slits of his helmet. “Upstairs” the man responded quickly, he lowered the shoddy pistol and closed the door, peering through a small hole, no doubt making sure the unexpected guest wasn’t followed. He ascended the stairs slowly, each step creaking and bending the boards as if they were about to snap. As he reached the top, he entered into a small hallway, pushing the only door not boarded up wide open. Inside, a small room. Directly in the middle, a large desk was placed, with many bookshelves and filing boxes obscuring the wall behind them. A middle aged man sat behind it, buried deep in a book, he spun in the chair, observing him. A scraggly gray beard consumed the entirety of his face below his nose, creeping around even the sides of his head. “I don’t believe I arranged to meet anyone” he snapped at Savik, closing his tome with a light boom. “The Ketch-Master doesn’t have time for arrangements” Savik replied calmly as he withdrew a charred and burned book of his own from his satchel, dropping it onto the desk, “He’s quite spontaneous.” The man’s eyes widened at the book, he looked up to Savik then down once more, before cracking it open. “It is known that spiders like you hear whispers better than most.” Savik gestured toward the book, “Tell me what you know....” ----------- The Western Bloc Before a large crowd in Cesan, the Emperor Valen III announced a major diplomatic achievement. For too long the threat of communism and the red tide had threatened to consume the whole continent, even Valdek had seen civil war and strife involving the communists. Her eastern neighbor had only just fallen to communism, and the threat is presented was far too great to ignore. Such a mutual threat could not be allowed to fester un-opposed any longer. In coordination with the Grand Duchy of Prahavaka, a major conference held in Cesan invited Western Leaders to discuss and consolidate a uniform, organized, and coordinated defense against the Reds. To even the Emperor's surprise, it had resulted in a tremendous success, with every invitee agreeing to the creation of the Bloc. In this regard the Emperor offers his thanks to Major General Sergov Bendarik, and the Grand Duke Anatoly Ehrenkov for their backing in such negotiations. No longer would the Empire of Valdek face the tide alone. If the Red Menace would continue its aggressive expansion, it would be met with the unanimous and total effort of the following nations: -The Empire is Valdek -The Grand Duchy of Prahavaka -Greater Modevia -The Republic of Volta-Solvan -The Republic of Tormina -The Republic of Sorent -The Tsardom of Pozharin -The Vost Confederacy _________________________________________________ Actions Financial Actions: -Standard investments into the civilian sector (10,000) -2 New Steel Mill (5,000) -4 new refineries and mines are constructed (40,000) -4 Airshipyards (40,000) -8 Heavy industrial plants (60,000) -Two more infantry divisions are raised (60,000) --Mechanizing 3 brigades (9k) -Two orders of Mk1 Spider tanks are ordered from the Vaut Armaments (16,000) -Two hundred UAM fighters are built (14,000) -10,000 Landwehr are organized abroad (3,000) -A single Battlecruiser, and an accompanying ‘freighter’ is commissioned.. by a private individual? How curious, but the Valdenians are never one to turn down some coin! (19,000) -6 New destroyers are laid down (18,000) -5 New destroyers are laid down in Cumberlandic shipyards (15,000) -The Emperor begrudgingly lessens the burden upon his Cumberlandic peer’s shoulders (5,000) -1000 Gold is Saved Mod Actions: -Operation Phage (5,000) -Following close behind Volta-Solvan, the Valdenian West Koibita Company (VOK) is established. They are given exclusive trading rights in Koibita and aggressively begin to expand into these foreign markets! In this regard, they are not beyond cruelty. Vast fields and deep mines are erected, employing native labour to extract resources in vast quantities and export them to the Old World for huge profits! (5,000) -The Emperor orders a diplomatic outreach towards Volta-Solvan. A request to establish proper relations, and establish and embassy in their capital is sent Research: -All projects continue as projected Edited December 15, 2019 by Krefarus

See below. (2000 G) 2000 G, 9 V, 31 S. ACTIONS: Land on Kiri-Kiri island is leased to a chartered company of the Juverin Republic. This base is on the site of the former punitive expedition base camp, on the tip of the north-western peninsula. The lease is subject to renewal every three years, for the cost of 25,000 G. The gassing of an entire Emmerian city by the Gwangnamese airforce is condemned in the strongest possible terms by the Signoria. They sign a unilateral demand that Gwangnam and Verna cease all hostilities and return to its own territory. A Monitor from the Venzeatic Sea Navy is sold to the Grand Duchy of Praharavka for 8000 G, to be paid in the new year. Following the HORRIFIC ATTROCITY committed by the communist invaders in Emmeria, the Signoria approves funds to mass produce the film “THE RAPE OF VULCAN” and have it shown in movie theatres across the known world. The work is also distributed to the governments of all nations, and even sent to the CNSR and Verna SSR! Let none doubt the reality of Communist “liberation”! TankM1A2 840 Share Posted December 14, 2019 GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA THE RESTORATION WAR Once Praharavka had believed it could sit idly by, neutral, as Empires crumbled around them while men died fighting fruitless wars in the names of their country’s elite. When the Grand Duchy found itself roped into the Great War, it was discovered that they were no better than the rest. They were compelled to action, with fervor never before seen. However, as the war drew on and casualties tolled, Praharavka’s bright outlook and fighting attitude dissipated like the rest. Always headstrong and honorbound, to reject the call to arms was unfathomable. Had they had known the price the Great War would extract, they’d most likely have withheld the lives of their sons, brothers, and fathers. Yet to say the war was regrettable, would be an insult to the lives they had laid down in the service of their country. Loyalty to country was paramount among Praharavkan society - before even family. Everyone would have to make sacrifices for the common good. Now, so soon after the Great, not more than ten years, the people of Praharavka were asked once more to risk it all. In a short span, a dependable and stable neighbor had fallen to the communist plague. Gwangnan, a former monarchist state, now turned Red, right upon Praharavka’s border. This was unacceptable. As long as they remained, their dangerous ideology would diffuse across the border and prove to be a staging ground for a potential incursion into the Praharavkan heartlands. Thus, it became evident that Gwangnan would need to be liberated from their proletarian oppressors; the aim to reinstate Imperial rule in the Mountains. Praharavkan Ground Forces amassed on the eastern and southern borders, with the PRAC’s steel behemoths close overhead. The Declaration of War was transmitted to Gwangnan. And at that moment, the Praharavkan Army began their foray into neutral territory. Engines sputtered into life, whistles blew sounding an advance, and the ominous drone of Airships resonated as the Naval vessels lumbered forward. This was the largest troop movement Praharavka had conducted in a decade, ever since the Great War had stagnated. With new tools and technology at their disposal, High Command had been optimistic that this war would be one of mobile and decisive punches. The last thing they had hoped for was another Great War. The same mistakes would not be repeated. A Praharavkan tank column streams towards the Gwangnanese border. PRAHA INFO Head of State: H.M. After nearly six decades at the age of 90, Emperor Gregor Oldbarrow has joined the spirits and left the helm of the state to his oldest son, Jun-Seo Sule-Bahk. Jun-Seo has already proven in the past that he is a man of ambition who has great dreams for his great people and that he will not refrain from using force to achieve what he sees rightfully to be part of the Syullin. Actions: Not a man to grief for long, the new Emperor Jun-Seo continues his policy of industrial development, in order to increase the GNP, as well as the resources available to all areas of the nation. And so, with his newfound absolute authority, he orders the improvement of following: The rail system needs to brought to full speed, in line with the newly started development of the new train models, he wants that all cities and towns have full access to the network. Furthermore, the roads need to improved and paved accordingly, to allow for easier traffic, motorized or not, and wide enough so they may avoid eachother and not clog up the roads. (-20,000 Syl into Infrastrcuture) Several cities receive industrial complexes that are to produce commodities and goods for the civilian populace. An increased satisfaction should boost the market, with people willing to spend more money, they may earn in the very same factories in the first place. (-20,000 Syl, 4 CIs) With potential trade with the neighbouring underdeveloped countries, there must be room to acommodate them. Trade depots shall be built. Combined with the investments for infrastructure, the Empire of Syullin intends to become the gateway of their continent to the rest of the world, perhaps even the very protector of the natives. (-20,000 Syl, 2 Trade Depots) A bit to the dismay of the Lord Dedicant, only a singular Cruiser is being ordered for construction this time around. (-2 ASP, -5,000 Syl) Continued diplomatic outreach to the neighbours. (MOD) The corvettes now venture out into the sea, keeping sight of their homeland at all times. (MOD) The remaining resources are being stockpiled. (3 AP, 1 S, 2 VR) Research (Passive 3 slots + 10% bonus): The old Longhorn Rifles brought over (with schematics even, probably to be able to reproduce them as needed) from the Old World have proved outdated and very clunky. Whilst there was originally no need to improve upon the ol’ reliable, the Dedicants deem it suitable to upgrade the general equipment, introduce standardization and allow for easier construction of infantry rifles, as the Longhorns were mostly made by hand, with only a few steps automated. They wish to call it the Bohoja Rifle. (Started 1889, a new bolt-action rifle to replace the predecessor from the Old World, due in 1891) The improvement of agricultural methods has been a longstanding issue with the Empire. Whilst mostly forgotten due to other more important “concerns”, a new wind to push projects regarding optimal crop rotation and soil retention has come from nobody else than the Empress herself. Having a garden herself, where she grows vegetables for her family and most importantly for her dying husband, it is a very personal topic to her. By her claims, good soil gives good crops. Good crops are inhabitated by good spirits that give good life essence to the people, to prolong their lives and increase their fertility, making them strong and healthy as a whole. (Re-started 1889, after six years of “pause”, due in 1897) In order to not only increase the capacity, but also the speed of transportation for wares and people across the growing Empire of Syullin, a new train engine is to replace the old fashioned coal powered models. Vitramite comes in mind as a potential candidate. (Started 1889, due in 1895) Communication over long distances proves to be still difficult. The wiring is often faulty and outdated, the cables not always capable of resisting the unregular electricity from the power grids of the nation. So, Project Bosang, is meant to streamline and optimize these grids of the nation. Starting with Voltage, Ampere, et cetera, they are to eliminate and unify the methods of generating power as well as bringing them up to par, so that the cables (and other devices of course) may not suffer the same issues they had in the past. The ensuing riots between Communists and the Fascists left large swathes of the Capital of Randgritz destroyed and burned, leaving many homeless, destitute and worse off than before. The Grand Prince himself addresses the nation in shock and sorrow, pledging to ensure justice is had for all those who lost their homes and loved ones, pledging to go down to the destroyed part of his Capital each day until the damage is repaired. The Royal Cumberland Ship Building Co. opens itself up for foreign contracts and in turn receives a number of contracts filling the Royal Coffers beginning to leave a taste in the treasury department for foreign exports of a more military nature due to the extreme profits taken. Both the Admiralty and Army approve of the action at least for the time being as production capacity is set to increase further for both arms of the Military though there are some disgruntled voices at the notion of arming foreign nations through the Royal Cumberland Ship Building Company. Though with the Vitra shortages the Navy is currently facing these voices are quiet for now as producing more ships is not impossible until more Vitramite Mines and Vitraium Refineries are constructed. An attempt at a Colonial Venture is now one of the priorities of the foreign office to win back some of the lost prestige in recent years, rather than join in on the regional conflicts it now seeks to expand its horizons to overseas ventures. Leaving behind much of the troubles of the Old World and seeking to extract the wealth of the New World. Actions Ten civilian factories would be set up in the following year as part of the economic liberalisation program. Zanderaw 161 Share Posted December 16, 2019 (edited) The Carnelian Sultanate News of an assassination attempt on Carnelia’s greatest general has done nothing to ease attitudes toward the eastern monster. Though little can be proven, everyone from Sard to Pazar knows that the Klendari are to blame, as they always are. The League of Carnelian Nationalists and Monarchists floods the streets of several cities in protest, and in Port Carnelian the police are hard-pressed to protect the local Klendari population. The nation is full of snakes, they say, and they must be rooted out before Carnelia can truly be free. Pashik himself, being a good soldier, only comments that he is in good health, and watches the events with trepidation. In the national assembly, representatives from around the country are silent: the country has not forgotten the horrors inflicted on them by their eastern neighbor, and to be seen defending them would be political suicide. Those that do speak out are the truly insane, calling for retaliatory action against the Klendari colossus. Thankfully, the ultimate decision lies with the Sultan, who seems to be quietly listening to his ministers, and doing nothing. -------------- Foreign Policy [Baresh - 4 AP] - The final shipments of weapons make their way to Baresh, bringing its army to a modern standard of readiness. [Erdemir Industries] – The Carnelian military requests a catalog of the weapons and vehicles Erdemir sells, hoping to meet some of their unmet requirements. [CSAC] – Carnelian diplomats are friendly in their new post, and seem quite happy to share any intelligence the CSAC may want on the Klendari menace. They do mention that if the communists ever have more excess tanks, the Sultan would be happy to buy them! -------------- Expenditure [212,250 Shekels] [New Town] - Perhaps in retaliation for Perzah’s association with the Klendari filth, Carnelians move to settle the land between the two borders, and to secure the Vitramite found there. [2 Destroyers; 4 ASP/6,000 Shekels] - Armed Convoy Barracuda is completed, ready to support the air cavalry. [3 Cruisers; 6 ASP/33,000 Shekels] - To provide a screen for the newly-built capital ships, several medium ships are commissioned. [Heavy Cruiser; 3 ASP/12,000 Shekels] - And a heavier ship as well! [25,000 Regular Infantry; 5 AP/35,000 Shekels] - Much of Carnelia’s industrial base is otherwise engaged at the moment, but they still have cash and guns for some more infantry. [Railway; 5,000 Shekels] - The Carnelians are in dire need of a safe transport route to their allies in Mejhai, and so they begin construction on a new rail line through the desert. [KESTREL; 10,000 Shekels] [Slamming Door; 20,000 Shekels] [Hossani Island; 5,000 Shekels] [3,250 Shekels saved.] Science 1. Hossani-Bradford - MP87 Submachine Gun Hossani-Bradford continues work on what they think will be a revolution in assault weaponry! [1893 Estimate] 2. Black Rain - FUNDED, 55,000 GOLD ?????????? ?????????? 3. Praetor 1548 Share Posted December 16, 2019 The Karakhwa I don’t have time to write RP, so here is a vide of Shadow of the Day, filmed by Venzeiatic film-makers. Solomon The pull continues to yank him towards the West, but Solomon hesistates and lingers with the Karakhwa raiders, unwilling to leave them for the unexplored world to the west. After all, if he were to leave now, perhaps he would lose all the progress he had made within their culture, and more importantly, lose any chance of one day being able to earn Heart of Iron’s approval enough to ask for his daughters hand in marriage. Many small bunkers are drilled into the rock, littering the mountains for dozens upon dozens of kilometers around Yotal’s Throne with a network of bunkers and firing platforms armed with Carnelian AA guns and Quadruple HMG’s all of them with overlapping fields of fire. Some emplacements even have air-torpedo positions or small hangars for corvettes to hide in. (20.000G) (27.5k invested total) 25.000G sent to Carnelians. Continued investment into the Altitude Control Technology. (1896 with 31k) (51k invested total now) Operation Vitriol. (10.000G) (Mod) Shadow of the Day prepares for another raid… against Valdek. On par with usual karakhwa strategy, they scout and try to avoid concentrations of enemy forces, attacking instead wherever they have an opening, in small groups. They try to damage civilian industry, industry or whatever they can reliably hit. (3 Yotal’s Hawks, 7 Corvettes, 1 Regular Cruiser) The Karakhwa continue to raid ruthlessly. This year, they stalk trading ships going to the Klendari Sultanate and attack isolated targets, or small convoys. Some are simply destroyed, especially if they seem to be shipping bulk goods, but more valuable ones are attacked by ambush, with Wind Devils dropping from above and attempting to board them. The process is also attempted on Klendari warships, with Wind Devils dropping on them in sudden ambushes. To be honest, they don’t discriminate much between Klendari trade and international trade or military ships. The raid is commanded by Cockroach that Runs. Of course, they act like raiders. They flee true combat, do not engage large groups and only attack when the cards are in their favor. An insistent knock. And again. And again. And again. ‘Coming!’ The teenager groaned, his austere room strewn with glasses and empty wine bottles; he had no servants. Stumbling over, he trudged to the door and opened it, slowly. Then he gasped to see a Hastatus at the door – a centurion! ’Art thou the Younger Gracchus?’ The grizzled veteran asked with a grin he could not suppress, freshly adorned with a wreath he must have earned by courage in the Seven Days’ Dialogue. ’Yes. What in Neptune’s arse is it?’ ’Oh, nothing sir. A gift from thy noble brother.’ ‘Oh, what?’ Bham! It took a single strike of the truncheon to knock young Gracchus out. Suspicion had grown around the young man since his absence in the Dialogue. Now, without his brother’s knowledge, he was placed in the hands of the Hastati, and closely interrogated. Torture was used – all this with the alleged approval of the Elder Gracchus – although only Numeria knew that she had stolen his Seal and lied to the Imperator! All this was going on without the Head Philosopher’s permission, and those that did it were convinced they were doing the right thing. A deep investigation revealed the supposed staunch neo-Aurelian to be an ardent Communist! The news was presented to Marcus on 4th July, 1889. Indisputable evidence put into his hands, he was filled with rueful tears. ‘With rue my heart is laden,’ he confessed privately to his wife. ‘Gods relieve me of this vale of tears called leadership!’ Halfway between a sickening feeling of betrayal and a grief as deep as the ocean, he sent the order for his trial. What followed would be one of the most famous trials of all time – a trial that just so happened to come in the same year as the commercially available radio. The Trial Lucius Gracchus was forced to wear a business suit for the trial – his Philosopher’s toga denied him. ’Please, my lords. Mercy! I am only young. I know the Communists, I can help you destroy them!’ Lucius Gracchus was a pathetic sight. What else could be expected? He was only a boy. Composed at the start of the trial, by the end of it he was begging for mercy. His own brother was his judge – a right reserved in treason trials for the Head Philosopher. A ‘right’ the ancients called it – but a ‘burden’ it more was! But not only was Lucius tried for treason – he was also blamed for the poisoning of the Imperator, and for the publishing of the incendiary false Dialogue. In short, he was on trial for attempting to turn the entire nation to anarchy. ’Quintus Fabius Antonius,’ Marcus commanded in utmost formality, with immense willpower keeping out the tears. ‘Read thou me the statement of 2nd February 1887 made by Lucius Didius Gracchus, when I offered mercy to someone who had been spreading Communist propaganda.’ ’Brother, thou shewest mercy by being harsh on these dogs. For surely the Reds deserve nothing but the worst death for being against every aspect of the Aurelian Philosophy. They are dogs – they have no truth, no morals! Serve they only to be shot as an example. Thou wouldst massage them with oil, but they should be beaten with fists. Better to be the hammer than the evil – remove these pests with all of thy might.’ The deafening silence was penetrated only by the sound of a lightly ticking clock, which said death would wait a moment more. ’Please, Marcus...’ The traitor sobbed. ‘...Mercy.’ ’That mercy that was decried by thy own counsel is suppressed and killed. Thou must not dare for shame to talk of mercy! Thou knave: that didst bear the bottom of all my counsels, that knewest the very bottom of my soul, that almost mighst have coined me into gold, which thou hast practised on me for thy use! Can it be possible than foreign hire could out of thee extract one spark of evil that might annoy my finger? Tis so strange! So constant and unstopped didst thou seem...that this thy fault have left the kind of blot to mark the full-fraught man. And best endued...with some suspicion.’ A dreadful tear ran down the Philosopher’s face as he spoke, his countenance one of weary wrath. ’Hear thy sentence.’ He resolved bitterly, now not able to stop yet more tearings from spilling down upon his face. ‘Thou art sentenced for high treason, murder and forgery. Go thou to thy death – the taste whereof God give thee patience to endure...This I pray.’ As soon as the sentence had been pronounced, Marcus Gracchus went into a silent room and wept out a heartful of tears. Lucius was then taken out and shot. Devastated by the trial, Gracchus – for it is no longer necessary to say Elder or Younger; Marcus or Lucius – was allowed a month of public mourning. This was probably a very unwise thing to do. But tradition was tradition, and had he not gone along with it, Marcus would have been seen as wretchedly impious. Thus, the elder Cato took over the business of government. When Gracchus returned, he found that the Philosophate officially had a standing army, antibiotics had been invented, and that he had officially been given the hereditary honorific, Magnus. He was now Gracchus Magnus: a step, some might say, toward monarchy...And he isn't happy about it! Scientific Wonders After the intention of penicillin, it is implemented across the Philosophate’s health service and proscribed for serious bacterial illnesses. But not only that. Arpinian businessmen go around the world and sell the drug at a premium price – with its true origin kept secret! [Mod for CASH] An official radio service begins which broadcasts music, recorded versions of Aurelius’ Dialogues, football results, and news. Colonial Adventures After the failure of the colonial expedition, research is put into inventing hulls that withstand the torrid waters and can penetrate into the oceans in search of new land. [Mod – I have two turns on this one.] With the advent of a standing army, effort is put into developing a tank of their own, the Aurelius T-90. It is priorities a cavalry-like mobility and gun potency over armour. [Mod] Mission to the Nazr The mission to the Nazr Dynasty is a great success.
