STEEL HORIZON
1892

It has been twelve long, bloody years since the end of the Great War. Of all the world’s nations, only Volta-Solvan seems committed to world peace, but that goal becomes more far fetched with every passing year, as international rearmament continues at a breakneck pace, and open war rages in some parts of the Old World.

In the south, Klendari-Carnelian relations have finally reached a boiling point as the two nations commit themselves to open war over the fate of Sardia. Tens of thousands are dead or heinously wounded in the first days of the war, as an intense Sardian Pact assault devastates Perzah, leaving the small power vulnerable to the brutal four way invasion by Mejhai, Carnelia, Nazr and the Karakhwa. From the east, the south, the north and the sky the Pact attacks, and in a mere five day campaign - albeit an incredibly brutal one - Perzah surrenders to the Pact, after the heinous murder of their Shah. The war is not over yet, however, as Field Marshal Karagoz Pasha punches open the Kesun Line in a horrific attack - more than half of the Carnelian casualties are crippled or blinded by gas as opposed to killed - and for the first time in nearly fifteen years, Klendari troops storm across Carnelian land. Klendari tanks and trucks roar, announcing what has long been the great source of Carnelian dread - full scale invasion. Pashik, Carnelia’s darling, is maimed beyond recognition and the whole eastern front is thrown into a hellish and chaotic mess, as both the Pact and the Klendari rush towards each other, both sides intent on being the ultimate ruler of Sardia. To the south of the Kesun Line, Colonel-General Shule Corvin (now of the Royal Klendari Army) hammers Major-General Uri Ben-Yosef and his Bareshi allies, intent on smashing through in the south and launching his own attack on Carnelian heartlands. Things look grim for Baresh, and for Carnelia in general, as the Klendari move up more tanks and fresh infantry to consolidate their gains.

The international response to the murder of the Shah is, understandably, outrage. The Carnelian Sultanate, once a pillar of respectability and lawfulness, is condemned as a nation of barbarians, incapable of controlling their rabid attack dogs. Public sympathy swings heavily away from the Carnelians and to the Klendari instead, as the once sympathetic instead offer open condemnation of the murder done unto Perzah’s monarch. Modevia, Pozharin and Volta-Solvan - ardent supporters of the old regimes - offer more than condemnation, and publicly denounce and embargo Carnelia and the larger Pact in general.

In Gwangnan, peace is still a stranger. Across the occupied territories, the Gwangnanese resist Praharavkan occupation. The war is lost, but arms caches aplenty litter the mountains, and the common Gwangnanese man much preferred the former regime of the GCP, who promised to make their lives better. Instead, they find themselves with a monarch once again, and Praharavkan gendarmes to keep them in line. Gwangnanese flying columns roam the mountains, hitting police stations, army patrols, infrastructure, politicians and the like, before disappearing back into the countryside. Already pressure is mounting on the Praharavkans and Valdenians to support their puppet government.

THE GRAND PRINCIPALITY OF CUMBERLAND

The Vigil sees a huge turnout from across the world, as nations give solidarity to Cumberland, who was devastated by a heinous act of terrorism. +10’000G from charitable donations.

THE GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHARAVKA

The Klendari openly welcome the Praharavkans, and their observers quickly come face to face with the Father of Armoured Warfare himself - Colonel-General Shule Corvin. Much is to be learned here, by Praharavkan observers.

The Gwangnan Occupied Zone is already presenting a headache for local authorities, as dissatisfied Gwangnanese citizens begin a guerilla war in the mountains of their homeland. WIthin the first months, the occupation government is begging for troops to help control the territory. -10000G

The Government of the GOZ has, however, found something that they turn over to Praharavka… (Discord)

THE GALLIAN TRADE LEAGUE

Gallian continues to live in a happy, peaceful bliss, as the profits roll in off of war profiteering and exports of militiary and civilian production. Good days indeed. +1% growth for 2 turns.

THE WESTERFIELD CONFEDERACY

The open door policy in Westerfield continues, and many poor folk flit to the western democracy, in an eager attempt to improve their dire lives. +500k pop.

THE EMPIRE OF VALDEK

The Karakhwa stay far from Valdenian shores this year, and the defending forces spend much of their time on leave, carousing and drinking.

These Sepoys are a new fangled notion. At home, there are many trains of thought on them - some think that empowering natives with training and equipment is dangerous. Others believe that having a large, cheap, well trained army in the colonies will provide great aid in another major war - all agree, however, that the Sepoys are a necessary evil to control the colonies.

Word slips to Savik of a Gwangnanese deserter, living in Cumberland, hiding with cargo similar to what cost Siras his freedom… (Discord)

THE ARCHDUCHY OF ANDROS-BELLICA

Bellican militarisation of their borders continues, and the Vosterburg Line could be called a marvel of defensive fortification. Relatively short, the massed defenses will prove a major obstacle to any who try to cross into the Archduchy from the south.

The upper Azhoni classes bitterly resent the attempted brainwashing of their children, but they understand that they have little choice in the matter, and assent to such schooling.

As for the Okuoka… As with the schools, most Azhoni feel they have little choice, and many warriors join in order to feed their families. While the are pleasantly surprised  by the skill of the foreign duellists, that does not change the fact that they openly disdain these invaders who try to act as if they belonged.

The End of an Era breaks many records in the world of film, netting a total of 20’000G following the release. It is called a new era in cinema by some.

THE REPUBLIC OF EMMERIA

The war is over, and many have lost loved ones. The brave volunteers who fought to free their country from Gwangnan invasion trudge home, but none of them will ever really be the same again. Many opt not to be discharged, instead applying to remain in the army. +2 brigades of T3 Veteran Infantry.

Mechanisation will be available to the Emmerian army by 1896.

Political upheaval is very present in the country, as right wing rallies and demonstrations dominate Emmerian politics. Cook is vocal in his praise of the army, and of brave Emmerian volunteers.

TIERRA ROJA

Alvaro seems much aligned in the upper circles of Tierra Rojan government! Unfortunately, El Presidente will have to spend more money there, as it becomes apparent that the local tribes are NOT happy at this incursion! (Discord)

VENZEATIC LEAGUE

Vitramite powered armour will be available by 1897.

Modern ships engines will be ready by 1895.

Old Venza Victoria is a source of great pride to the Venzeatic public, and the transition from warship to museum ship provides a great deal of income. +2000G per turn.

Thus the Venzeatic League becomes the second to circumnavigate the world, and they land on the Western shores of Vachaus. There they discover a region of divisive, bitter warrior nations, with Koibita just over the mountains to the east.

THE CARNELIAN SULTANATE

Mejhai, Baresh and Nazr have limited airshipyard facilities, that is to say - none. They do have some domestic arms industry however, and manage to produce 300 fighters for the war effort.

Panic in Karaman. The streets flood with terrified citizens who attempt to flee the city as Klendari troops rapidly draw near. This causes chaos as panicked and desperate Carnelian troops frantically try to reorganise and prepare an actual line of defense in the city, the streets and roads of which are so blocked as to almost totally prevent movement from one side of Karaman to the other. (Discord)

Akar’s hardening project will be prepared by 1897.

THE KARAKHWA

The Father of the Karakhwa flies to face the Father of Armour… (Discord)

As Solomon goes further west, the whispers grow stronger, calling to him, drawing him to his destination… (Discord)

Madness takes to the wing. (Discord)

The majority of Yotal’s Throne’s defenses will be prepared in full by 1894.

THE EMPIRE OF SYULLIN

Infrastructure investment will result in +1 development level by 1896.

The Agricultural project is still due for 1897.

The Empire seeks to strengthen foreign ties. (Discord)

A modern electrical grid will be prepared by 1898.

THE JUVERIN REPUBLIC

Tanks will be rolling off the assembly lines for 1895.

Likewise, an SMG will be prepared for 1895.

The Bellican Empire

as it was the Year of Our Lord, 1893

-+-

Alauricism once held sway over a great many dynasties of central Anlund. The title of its protector, however, was held by the same dynasty for nearly three hundred years, until their kingdom had been so ravaged by secularist federations that they were reduced to but a single duchy.

YEAR IN REVIEW, 1893

-+-

3 Jan. | Nationally, the airshipyards churn, but not for Bellican use – they’ve been leased by Praharavka and Modevia!

8 Jan. | Okuoka-kyo sees the beginnings of modernization – 1.000 ABM is spent on bringing electricity and radio to the Azhoni capital, as well as introducing them to Bellican pastimes such as movie theaters [movies brought over on the quarterly freighters] and Arissian-styled bars. Special subtitled reels are made for this purpose, as well.

23 Jan. | Early 1893 was to be the dawn of a new age of film. End of an Era had broken every record the Bellican government had written – and that government must have sensed the possible cultural rebirth to come, or perhaps had seen its profits, for money flowed like wine from its coffers. To Briartown is sent a stimulus package of 5,000 ABM, with notice that 15,000 more is to come over the next three years, to film a movie set in Modevia. Called March 17thit follows the desperate defense of the Modevians during the Anaerein offensive.

6 Feb. | End of an Era’s profit margin, however, was not the true reason the Ministry of Commerce believed a new age had begun. No – instead, it was the invention of the roto-scope, a device to allow animators to draw cartoons with near-human movement and, in live-action movies, the ability to draw over shots and edit out inconsistencies and mistakes. With its completion in government-sponsored laboratories, the nation founds the Walder Bellisney Company, named after the machine’s inventor, and grants him 10.000 ABM for the year to begin the production of cartoons utilizing the device. The goal, quite obviously, is to take over the relatively small animated film market as quickly as possible. Of the 10.000, 5.000 is specifically spent on creating a set of memorable characters and short films featuring them – Oka the Owl, an Azhoni warrior-owl in full armor, Maccey and Misney Maus, dressed in classic, albeit cartoonish, Bellican attire, their pet dog Vallen, and Moden the Magpie, who is quite obviously based loosely upon Modevians. The characters sing and dance with frighteningly real movement, and the short films are to be released all across the Bellican empire, including in newly-opened theaters in Okuoka-kyo.

9 Feb. | Unusually late in the year, the Ministry of Commerce approves the economic stimulus budget, building commercial districts throughout Azhon’s cities.

10 Feb. | Unusually early in the year, it also approves the annual budget for the Vosterburg line, 10.000 ABM and a full 10 industrial centers committed to its completion.

18 Feb. | In the Vosterburg Cathedral, ancient coronation site of Bellican kings, Archduke Karl Fredrik is crowned King of the Bellicans, Androsians and Azhoni, Archduke of Bellograd, and Protector of the Alauric Faith. The top members of the Azhoni warrior class, including its now-limited Shogun, are brought to witness the occasion alongside the nobility of Andros and Bellica. Additionally, Bellica’s friends, trading partners, and allies in the Tsardom, Modevia, Valdek, Volta-Solvan, the Vost Confederacy and Grenheim are invited. 1.000 ABM is spent on a lavish ceremony, feast, and token presents for those that attend. The presents are mostly fine Azhoni horses, arms, and armor, though Rienzo and the Laurnovichs of Pozharin each receive a rotoscope as well, and the Valdenians instead receive jewelry.

2 Apr. | Project E-7 begins.

5 May | 20.000 ABM is sent to Modevia.

24 Jul. | Bellica is booming. In its capital city, seven more civilian industry districts begin construction, mostly centered around animation studios and sound stages.

13 Aug. | Realizing the rather high efficiency of recruiting well-adjusted natives to police and protect themselves, and taking full note of the warrior culture of the Azhoni, Bellica raises from among the nation’s more loyal factions 25.000 Mounted Infantry from Azhoni warriors and local Ashigaru, arms them with the international standard in guns and uniforms, gives them two blades apiece [one a Bellican cavalry saber and one an Azhoni katana], mounts them upon fine Azhoni steeds, and trains them as well as any out there. Soon, the Bellicans are certain, this soldiery will be the pride of the Greater Bellican Army.

20 Nov. | 7.500 ABM is sent to Praharavka, for the purchase of gas mask technology following the failure of the Ceylon Conference.

9 Dec. | Another Steel Mill is opened in Andrograd.

1893

New Trade and new opportunities come from abroad, as the ranks of foreign merchants grow, bringing new wares into the Empire. Acting as embassies alike, the Empire of Syullin orders the construction of eight Houses of Harmony with the newly established trade partner of the Principality of Cumberland. Rumors do have it, that the founder, Gregor Oldbarrow, might have come from said region, albeit he himself never giving any official statement regarding his place of birth. It seems he wanted to leave the Old World behind for what it was worth.

Jun-San, the heir of the Empire, has turned 17, and now it was deemed fit by his father Emperor Jun-Seo to marry him to the princess of Brennan as per their agreement, cementing a long-lasting alliance with two ties at once between the two realms.

Actions:

Celebrations are in order, as the nation spends lavishly for the wedding of the Imperial Successor to the Princess of Brennan. Jun-San Sule-Bahk and Elizabeth of Brennan are married in a tremendous ceremony in the capital of Syullin. (-4,000 Syl for the wedding)

The new Emperor Jun-Seo continues his policy of industrial development, in order to increase the GNP, as well as the resources available to all areas of the nation. Still influenced strongly by the Dedicants, he also continues the military investments:

The rail system needs to brought to full speed, in line with the newly started development of the new train models, he wants that all cities and towns have full access to the network. Furthermore, the roads need to improved and paved accordingly, to allow for easier traffic, motorized or not, and wide enough so they may avoid eachother and not clog up the roads. (Another -20,000 Syl into Infrastructure; Total: 1889: 4k, 1890: 20k, 1891: 20k, 1892: 20k)

Another trade depot is opened due to the new influx of merchants from the Principality of Cumberland. (-10,000 Syl for 1 Trade Depot)

With the new materials from Cumberland, the Empire begins construction of new warships as follows:

-4 ASP, -22,000 Syl for 2 T3 Jajonsim-Class Cruisers

-4 ASP, -6,000 Syl for 2 Dogsuli-Class Destroyers

As per agreement with Cumberland, the Empire invests a substantial sum of 20,000 Syl into the contractual construction of Houses of Harmony in every major location in the principality. (-20,000 Syl for 8 Houses of Harmony in Cumberland; for receiving 12 ASP)

Eastward, the Empire sends their companies of Light Infantry, to establish two new outposts on the frontier, over the mountains, to claim new lands, rich and fertile, for the Empire. (-5,000 Syl for two outposts)

Continued diplomatic outreach to the neighbours as well as the newly met foreigners from abroad. (MOD)

Assessment of the current research projects. (MOD)

The remaining resources are being stockpiled. (12 S, 5 VR)

Research (Passive 3 slots + 10% bonus):

The old Longhorn Rifles brought over (with schematics even, probably to be able to reproduce them as needed) from the Old World have proved outdated and very clunky. Whilst there was originally no need to improve upon the ol’ reliable, the Dedicants deem it suitable to upgrade the general equipment, introduce standardization and allow for easier construction of infantry rifles, as the Longhorns were mostly made by hand, with only a few steps automated. They wish to call it the Bohoja Rifle.

(Started 1889, a new bolt-action rifle to replace the predecessor from the Old World, due in 1891; concluded)

The improvement of agricultural methods has been a longstanding issue with the Empire. Whilst mostly forgotten due to other more important “concerns”, a new wind to push projects regarding optimal crop rotation and soil retention has come from nobody else than the Empress herself. Having a garden herself, where she grows vegetables for her family and most importantly for her dying husband, it is a very personal topic to her. By her claims, good soil gives good crops. Good crops are inhabitated by good spirits that give good life essence to the people, to prolong their lives and increase their fertility, making them strong and healthy as a whole.

(Re-started 1889, after six years of “pause”, due in 1897; Investments 17,050 Syl (1892))

In order to not only increase the capacity, but also the speed of transportation for wares and people across the growing Empire of Syullin, a new train engine is to replace the old fashioned coal powered models. Vitramite comes in mind as a potential candidate.

(Started 1889, due in 1894)

Communication over long distances proves to be still difficult. The wiring is often faulty and outdated, the cables not always capable of resisting the unregular electricity from the power grids of the nation. So, Project Bosang, is meant to streamline and optimize these grids of the nation. Starting with Voltage, Ampere, et cetera, they are to eliminate and unify the methods of generating power as well as bringing them up to par, so that the cables (and other devices of course) may not suffer the same issues they had in the past.

(Started 1891, due 1898)

GRAND DUCHY OF PRAHA

In light of the growing insurgency in Gwangnan, the Ducal Administration realized they would need to act quickly if they were ever to cement everlasting control over the territories. As a soft measure, the Gwangnan Occupied Zone, or otherwise referred to as the GOZ, are designated as the Gwangnanese Commonwealths - to turn attention away from the idea that Praharavka is a foreign invader and occupying force. Of course, they realize more work will need to be done and a simple bandage won’t stop the bleeding. A large portion of the Praharavkan budget is dedicated to rebuilding and restructuring Gwangnan - turning them away from the reigns of the Red Menace. Institutions of old are drawn upon and newfound knowledge is used to create a more moderate and tolerable government in Gwangnan. The overall aim - to deliver to the Gwangnanese people what the GCP could never do.

To tighten Praharavka’s grip upon the Gwangnanese Commonwealths, Praharavka aims to establish several permanent military installations and forward operating bases in the country. More than 100,000 personnel are transferred into Gwangnan - to act as the first line of defense between Praharavka and the Communist threat. Surviving generals of the War of Gwangnanese Aggression are given key posts and in charged with maintaining the defense and stability of the region, such as Fyodorovich, Bendarik, and Rodchenko. From these new bases, anti-insurgency operations can begin in earnest. Strikes are coordinated from the air, where Praharavka ships locate communist-sympathizing cells, shelling them where they can, and hanging back if ground troops are needed to flush out the rebels. It is expected with appropriate care and action, Gwangnan would be more than happy to exist peacefully alongside Praharavka.

Aside from politics and occupations, Praharavka forces successfully cross the Western Ocean in search of new lands and opportunity - unfortunately after being initially turned back by inclement weather. The intrepid explorers eagerly cast off, in hopes of earning fame and honor in the name of Praharavka.

With so much of Praharavka’s attention turned abroad, perhaps it's time Praharavkans looked to liberalize and improve the mother country? Much will need to be considered in the years to come. Bills including universal women’s suffrage, child labor bans, and eight-hour workday standards are already in motion...

Qavick’s pockets seemed to be endless these days with the regional conflicts raging across the world. The majority of this having been spent on the previous fiscal years to add more Vitramite income to the man’s great industrial base. In total over 900,000 Gallians worked under Qavick Vitramite industries employment, the majority live a luscious life with the pay raises offered by their nations leader and company CEO.

Steddard prepares the very first expedition in the league’s history with hundreds of men and supplies being loaded into a copious amount of fleet ships. With their courses mapped out from the known world to the unknown, they eagerly set off by the end of the year and begin their journey northeast.

Bailey Armstrong returns home from the convention with news of signed military changes and quickly shares it with Steddard. Officers are instructed and soon enough the majority of the military will begin to fully respect the new POW rules.

Population: 53,917,608 Gallians

Nation’s Yearly Expenditure Budget: 268,800 GC, 2 Steel, 11 ASP, 0 NP, 14 AP

(11 ASP, 16,000 GC) 5 Destroyers are built in the shipyards of this year alongside 3 more freighters to enable greater shipping.

(80,000 GC) Research funding is granted under a deal by Qavick.

(10,000 GC) Two exploration flotillas are dispatched to help expand the knowledge of the known world.  [2x 1 CL, 2 DD, 3 Corvettes, 3 Freighters for resupply, 5,000 T3 Regulars, 25 Howitzers each..] (2+ Knots, Radio)

(20,000 GC) 4 Vitreamite Refineries are built to deal with rising upkeep.

(7,500 GC for Gas Mask)

(120,000 GC) One of the largest production orders in decades for Steddards ambitions brings a total of 16 Military industrial plants.

(10,000 GC) 4 more steel mills.

Research Expenditure: 1 Free Slot

[Slot 1] [Stronger Vitramite Core] Amanda Wright Flights introduces plans to build an even better Vitramite core to provide stronger lift and allow ships to stay afloat under greater stress. [Free Slot]

[Slot 2] [Autocannons] Rapid-firing machine guns worked wonders on infantry but using these weapons for planes and tanks could prove far better with up scaled calibers. (17,500 GC)

[Slot 3] [Aerial Dropships] Freighter deployed soldiers would find landing in any war zone frankly suicidal. Howitzers and any sort of anti-airship weapons would bring them down in minutes. A middle man powered by vitreamite could land a squad of soldiers in minutes. (25,000 GC)

[Slot 4] [Flak Cannons] With aerial combat becoming more common-place, small calibre machine guns would not be able to cut down foes sufficiently. Why not make a bigger gun? (10,000 GC)

Tierra Roja

Another bullet lodged itself into the wood of the old cabin, prompting the young Paladin Luis to duck his head further behind the upturned table. His mentor, Jose, nursed the bleeding wound on his side and rubbed his whiskered chin thoughtfully.

“We have plenty of ammunition,” Jose mused (mostly to himself), “and plenty of guns. What we lack is a good position. Maybe if we can work out where the fewest of them are, we can rush them and get a better spot?”

Another bullet shrieked past the pair, smashing a bottle on the opposite side of the wall. “I think they’ve got us completely surrounded, maestro!” Stammered young Luis. He gripped his rifle tightly against himself causing the grease of its chamber to dirty his otherwise pristine white outfit.

“We’ve killed half on them already, “Jose rolled his eyes.

“There’s still five more!” Luis whined.

“And we have five guns each! That’s two guns for each of them. If anything, they’re outnumbered!” The old Paladin chortled. “Any booze in this place? I could use some disinfectant. A drink, too!” He glared with disappointment at the smashed bottle as the precious liquid seeped into the moldering floorboards. With a wince he grasped his side and limped towards one of the shattered windows.

“Hey, criminales, do you have any tequila?” He yelled. “I wish to quench my thirst before I kill you!” He was answered by a number of shots pelted back through the window.

“I certainly do!” A voice called back. “Just come out of your rathole and I’ll personally feed it to you!”

“I have reason to doubt your sincerity, señor! But if you change your mind, I promise not to shoot if you send your sister with the bottle!” The injured Paladin crawled back to his position with a smirk as a bullet ricocheted off an old lamp.

“Honourless pendejos.” He laughed, leaning back against the table. “What sort of man refuses his enemy a drink before a fight? Naught but cowards.”

“Are we going to die?” Luis quietly asked.

Jose shrugged, and began reloading one of his revolvers. “Maybe. Maybe not. They can’t aim worth a damn, so that evens the odds. Two of them to the west are using muzzle-loaders, though. We can rush them a-” Jose’s attention snapped back to Luis, who was quietly weeping. The old man rubbed his eyes, and sighed.

“Do you remember what El Salvador did at his last battle?” Luis shakily nodded, but his eyes remained entirely downcast.

“When all his amigos were slain, and it was only himself and a few followers left defending the river crossing, what did his comrades say to him?”

““Let us flee, and gather another army.”” Sniffled Luis.

“Si. And what did El Salvadore say to that?”

““A meek man will not find paradise.”” Luis answered.

Jose nodded, glaring intensely at his apprentice. “I have seen you praying at night. What do you ask Him for?”

“Bravery and strength.” Luis stammered. He yelped as Jose clapped him behind the head.

Idiota! You think El Salvador cares about your prayers? El Salvador helps the meek to be strong. You are a Paladín. You are already strong! Certainly strong enough to kill one of those merciless banditos. You’re already head-above-shoulders braver than anyone in the villages they pillage.”

Luis’ tears didn’t seem to abate, which annoyed Jose considerably. He rubbed his temples  with a groan.

“Sure, El Salvador could have run with his comrades, gathered another army and fought the Klendari again, but what would that gain him? His name in a list of fallen heroes? He chose to be an example for the rest of us! And His final, fateful charge to his His earthly end was not done in fear, but with a smile! For His path lead not to death but to everlasting life in the heavens!”

His apprentice looked up at him with red, puffy eyes.

“We strive ever onward against the inglorious, the wicked, and the evil! Our bravery and strength will inspire, even when our time has come! We are El Salvador, and El Salvador is us!”

Jose pulled Luis up, and brushed the dirt and refuse from the young man’s shoulders.

“You feel that twinge in your gut?” Jose smiled, eyes filled with wild malice. Luis slowly nodded and wiped his eyes.

“That means El Salvador is watching you. He is waiting to see you purge these shits from this righteous world, and show your divinidad! Do not disappoint him!”

A shot rang out, and carved a piece of wood from the window sill, narrowly missing the shoulder of the grinning Jose.

“I’ll charge towards the mouthy one north of us, you dart west and kill the bastards there. When you succeed, you’ll easily dispatch the rest with your revólveres. Should I perish, bury me with all their tequila. I wish to sing when I meet El Salvador.”

With that, the two of them charged from the doorway and gunfire rang out around the woodland. Only Luis returned to the cheers of the villagers, smiling, covered in blood, and reeking of alcohol.

Like a true Paladín.

Research:

-A group of Tierra Rojan engineers sit around, glaring at the magnífico engines being installed on a destroyer. It is a beautiful engine, and unmatched by any other in the world for its sheer speed. And yet, it was not enough. How could it be? Does a man simply go for a siesta after his first drink? No! He drinks, and drinks, and drinks until he can barely stand! He fights his friends! He shoots his brother! He sleeps with his brother’s wife! He then sobers up, and laughs about it with his brother! His brother then shoots him! In this sense, the engines simply must go faster!
(
-1RP and 10,000 pesos towards improving the speed of Tierra Rojan ship engines)

-The standard bolt-action rifles employed by the military are quickly becoming obsolete in a world of self-loaders. Since all the other nations are adopting semi-automatic rifles, so will Tierra Roja! Behold:

Roleplay:

The Grand Principality had breathed a sigh of relief having a massive  government intervention to save the shipyards and the shipbuilding industry after the attack at the end of 1891, taking a year to fully complete and fix the Royal Cumberland Shipyards further security measures have been added to attempt to ensure that it never happens again and further plans to improve the air defences of the nation put on the table by Lieutenant General Harold Simmerson who is now being considered the defensive of the two high ranking Cumberland Generals. However the Navy for the time being takes the majority of Military funding citing the requirement to have a larger navy and scale back on foreign sales which is likely what drew the terror attacks. At the Grand Assembly at the beginning of the year the Admiralty put it to the Grand Prince that half of Cumberlands Shipyard Capacity should be reserved for the Navy for a period of five to ten years to ensure Cumberlands Navy can get to full strength within that time frame, citing the plans for the first domestic Dreadnoughts to be laid down in the following year. Drawing support from the commoners and nobles it is agreed upon to focus on naval expansion in the Military budget.

The Industrialists put forward the continued need to put nearly half of the budget towards expanding the civilian economy and once more find themselves met with success as more money equates to more defense spending, more products and general improvements for all stratas of society. Though the Communists advocate collective ownership it is sharply ignored by the rest assembled, though they are allowed to speak their piece concerning their political beliefs though they are met with cries from others gathered about Gwangnan Gas attacks and how Communists would bring doom upon everyone, the more religious of those gathered even cite that the Communists opposing Divine Rule will lead to famine and collective desitution. Though the Grand Prince calls for it to quieten down as to avoid bloodshed in what is considered a sacred Cumberlandic tradition of the Grand Assembly.

Westerfield Confederacy

President Levander Bixby sighs wearily and sits down with his cabinet. Alongside a General with Brayden’s report, the day promised to be tiresome. Arrayed around him were the people keeping the Confederacy running. Generals like Brayden and Yemelyanovna were shaping an army out on the prairie. But here the cogs of Government churned as always. On everyones mind was the Klendari-Carnelia war. Though already involved, life continues normal for now. But in the Common House, emotions were flaring. Many wanted total peace, or the opposite of total war. Others cautioned neutrality. But it was clear the Senate and Cabinet were committing to war. As news filters in of great battles, the Confederate steel begins to harden.

The Old Powers of the world were all backing this shameful war. One meant to put down Sardian independence for good. The very same nations who conscripted millions of Westerfielders, were now backing a nation intent on subjugating them. The people of the Confederacy came to this land to escape the Old World. But with it now knocking on their door, choices had to be made. Westerfield will pour her economy into being able to defend herself. Recruits rally in every town, and Politicians lead fiery speeches to the masses.

Meanwhile General Joe Brayden continues to form the Confederate Army. While guarding the border, he also is busy forming a proper system. The army is modernized, and Corps are formed. Already more and more men pour in. A proper uniform is found, and Officers picked from the NCOS. Bit by bit the army grows.

Westerfield continues it’s open arms immigration policy. This year with the war raging, they focus on Sardian war refugees. They are offered help and a second chance in Westerfiled if they immigrate.

A growing desire to properly explore the massive graveyard of the battle of Kelkit ensues. The President and Cabinet employ the best frontier explorers, trackers, and engineers. The three teams of 100 will dive into the Graveyard. Not one inch will be left untouched as they take the year to survey. At the end of the year reports are expected.

[Mod Please] Slot 1;  “Flak Anti-Aircraft”

A improved version of the outdated Great War AA the Confederacy currently possess. This new model will be built to fit to trucks, to allow for their swift transport. It will use Flak as ammunition, and designed to counter Fighters and Bombers.

[Mod Please] Slot 2; “Anti-Tank Guns”

This gun is very similar to the Flak AA units being researched. One scientist had the idea to completely depress the barrel, and fire the gun straight. It proved very effective in piercing steel plating. Thus this variant will be designed for firing on ground targets, not air. This ‘88’ will be made purely to fire HE and Piercing shells straight through the armor of a tank.

Republic of Emmeria
1893

The Will of Democracy

qaCpQfH.jpg

This is the final year before the election for the new leadership of the Republic of Emmeria, with Ashton Rézia and Arthur Cook.

With the Communist Party gone from the country, most left wing parties have slowed or fallen off the map for fear of being considered communist sympathizers. Arthur Cook and his Nationalist Party have taken a strong presence in Emmeria, but Ashton Rezia and his Royalist have also taken a majority of support. It isn’t entirely clear who will take lead of Emmeria’s future these next several years and many worry about the next war that is sure to come with the communist threat surrounding Emmeria.

Ashton Rezia and his Royalist have been pushing for a united front and expanding their colonial holdings and influence to fund expanded defenses back home and prepare a proper army to defend its borders.

Arthur Cook claims that if Emmeria is to be prepared for the next war, then those who sleep with the communists should be condemned and stopped at all cost. While he doesn’t support Emmerian troops in the Southern war. He greatly agrees that Carnelia should be embargoed and supplies readily sold and sent to the Klendari who are clearly the only stable source of power in the region.

Both parties support and demand a strong national defense. However the road each party is willing to take to reach that destination is wholly different and is sure to change the fate of Emmeria..forever.

The Sardian Pact

AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL INHABITANTS OF SARDIA

It has been a year since we went to war together, and the Sardian Pact stands firm! Under Field Marshal Orbay, our gallant troops have stalled the enemy assault, and even now plans are in motion to take the fight to the Klendari tyrants themselves. This year saw many developments, and though many across the world cheered our efforts, still more have sought to intervene. As all of us prepare to push the savage imperialists from our land, I thought it might be valuable to take a moment, and think about what it is we are fighting for.

When my great-great-grandfather first founded Carnelia, his first act was not to have his enemies suppressed, but to gather them into a legislature, to write the first national constitution. Mehmet understood that there are two paths to unity: fear, and cooperation. He chose the latter, and from that choice has sprung a diverse yet enduring nation.

Sardia too is a diverse land, though connected by common bonds of culture and history. Sadly, until now those core bonds of friendship have been trampled by the jackboots of Klendari tyranny. As we have seen, it is not the natural way of things! The Sultan of Klendar relies on foreign aid for his strength, on the decrepit regimes of Anlund. Even now these imperialists rush to his defense, thinking to rescue their puppet from a storm of his own making. They will stop at nothing, for they fear a unified Sardia.

And why shouldn’t they? Unity here has always been to their disadvantage. The covenant between our nations will benefit every Sardian, from the priests of Ozan to the oppressed workers of Klendar. It will secure our unique ways of life - the uncompromising freedom of Westerfield, the noble faith of the Nazr, the proud cultures of Mejhai, of Baresh, of my own Carnelia. Most importantly, it will put an end to the cycle of division and terror that has kept our people from reaching their true potential all these years. In the past year, we have learned just how much that prospect scares the world.

But we have learned something else - this dream will not be achieved without sacrifice, in steel and in blood. As we enter the new year, let us remember that our fight against these imperialists is both righteous and necessary. The Pact army must drive the barbarians from our shores, for only then can Sardia truly rise.

May the Pact Prevail.

Sultan Abdul I, Arbiter of the Sardian Pact

STEEL HORIZON
1893

1893 proves to be a bloody year in Sardia, a year dominated by intense dreadnought battles and savage fighting. Early in the year, Karaman falls in an inferno of pure horror. Hundreds of thousands die in the hell of the battle, and the Klendari continue their advance on Sard. High above Karaman, a violent storm rages as the two sides clash in a violent air battle that ends in a bloody stalemate. The world watches Sardia with great apprehension. A joint embassy of Volta-Solvan, Modevia and the CNSR approaches both sides in the conflict, offering to mediate before the war mutates into an even larger conflict.

In Gwangnan, Praharavkan soldiers acting as garrison forces serves only to incense the population even more, and the growing insurrection slowly becomes more significant - and strangely well armed. Praharavkan soldiers uncover several small caches of equipment - the CNSR hasn’t even bothered to remove the serial numbers from their weapons. What’s more, they seem to dare the Praharavkans to do something about it, and hundreds of thousands of men watch the border.

In Koibita, Emperor Hirohiko begins to consolidate control over his vast and squabbling empire. With Valdenian support and resources, the Emperor begins to centralise his realm, seeking full control over his massive population of subjects. Some of his vassals are outraged at this, but Hirohiko makes full use of the men placed at his disposal by Valdek, and quickly puts down many major revolts.

1893 sees a massive boom in film production - the two great studios, in Briartown and Venza receive massive boosts in film technology, gifted by private investors. A great rivalry is born, as many spectacular films go forth from both studios. However, the End of an Era is truly the work of a decade, and Briartown has become the more notable of the two studios.

THE ARCHDUCHY OF ANDROS-BELLICA

March 17th proves to be a colossal project. Military advisors from both the CSAC and Modevia are employed (in hindsight, a violently bad idea) and a massive series of props and actors are hauled in. It is a hideously long film, split into three parts - it is estimated for completion in 1896.

The new “roto-scope” proves to be an interesting invention, and soon cartoons are in wide distribution. The more perverse minds, however, abuse the invention and a new form of pornography becomes widely available across Andros-Bellica.

A great spree of delegates arrives to witness the coronation of the King of the Bellicans. +10000G

The Praharavkan soldiers quickly find themselves targeted by constant and brutal reprisals. Flying columns of Gwangnanese men roam the mountains, ambushing patrols and convoys constantly.

The Rail is built easily enough, though it is blown up several times along the way.

No rice or grain sails down the river from Gwangnan as, though the country has since come out of the famine caused by the war, there is no foodstuffs to spare.

What Cumberland is up to this year, nobody knows. Not even their Cabinet, apparently. The consequences of Cumberland’s sleepover remain to be seen.
