Sorcerio 4595 Share Posted December 4, 2019 Mana Obelisks Mana is all around us -- a fuel, a life source, sustenance. It is with mana that magi are able to cast magnificent feats of power. Yet, like a traveller carries a canteen of water in the desert, a mage must take care to store their mana in the event that they should run out. Every day, mages grow closer to another discovery in the arcane, closing in closer on advancements that redefine the potential in the Void. While gems store mana for enchantment use there are ways for one to store an even greater amount of mana with greater ease. An example of a Mana Obelisk... It was with this idea that a mage could store mana more efficiently that the mana obelisk was discovered. These large stone pillars encase a large mana gem which can be used to store large amounts of stagnant mana which a mage could use whenever they wished. Creation of an Obelisk Mana obelisks are essentially large void crystals, though for aesthetic purposes are often encased within common stone. They are typically quite big, scaling many feet in height - which allows them their great mana capacity. In order to create the obelisk, a transfigurationist must meld several gems together in order to form the large gem that holds all the mana. Mechanics Spoiler A mana pillar can be created out of several different types of material, ranging anywhere from deific materials to simple mana gems. The following standard resources are as follows: Void Gem Lapis Emerald Aurum Ruby Diamond [!] Other materials are left to LT discretion. Filling an Obelisk Once the general form has been created, one must go about the task of feeding the obelisk with their own mana. The obelisks hold an incredible amount of energy, meaning that a mage cannot completely fill such an object alone in one sitting -- lest they risk death from mana exhaustion. Mechanics Spoiler Each material holds more mana than the former, allowing the wisened mage to create large mana pillar storages by using the proper material. The standard amount of mana held by a Void Pillar of three blocks is equivalent to that of a T5 descendant voidal mage. [!] The following list is of standard three block mana pillar capacities (three blocks = T5 mage capacity). Void Gem [x1] - Three OOC days to charge Lapis [x2] - Six OOC days to charge Emerald [x2.5] - Eight OOC days to charge Aurum [x3] - Nine OOC days to charge Ruby [x3.5] - Ten OOC days to charge Diamond [x5] - Two OOC weeks to charge In order to fill an obelisk, a large amount of time and an incredible amount of energy must be expended. One block worth of obelisk can be filled by a mage per day, meaning that if multiple mages assist in the filling of an obelisk, the process will be much faster. It should also be noted that for every three blocks added onto the pillar, the amount of mana required (time) doubles, regardless of material. For example, if you have a six block diamond obelisk, it would take twenty-four OOC days of charging for a mage to completely fill it on their own - as it holds 10x the capacity of a T5 descendant mage. Filling – Guidelines and Redlines Spoiler Mana Obelisks formed from multiple void gems or regular gem, essentially creating an even bigger void gem which has a greater mana capacity. Such an object requires ST signing in order to be valid. Mana Obelisks must be a minimum of three blocks total, or else it is not considered an obelisk. A transfigurationist is required to create a mana obelisk, though any mage may fill one. Equivalent exchange is key. In order to create a diamond mana pillar, for example, one must have as many blocks worth of diamond as necessary to create the pillar mechanically. All mana obelisks must be refuelled once every two months. As the amount of time to fuel a pillar doubles with every three blocks added onto the pillar, so too does the amount of time needed for a recharge increase. For every three blocks added onto the pillar, another month is added to its required recharge requirement. Applications of an Obelisk Despite storing an incredible amount of mana, a mage could not use this mana in tasks such as casting a spell. While most may think of such an object as useless, there is so much more that one can do with this construction. It can be used to refuel mana gems and enchantments and even arcane constructs. The applications for such a creation are near limitless, for magic goes so much deeper than simply casting spells. For typical recharging, done without a mana wire or some other passive form of connection, a transfigurationist is required to be present in order to draw mana from the obelisk and relocate it to its new container. More powerful enchantments may be constantly fueled by mana obelisks, though they must remain stationary, within a close proximity of the obelisk, and connected by mana wires or some other form of connection. For example, a city-wide illusion enchantment could be constantly powered by a mana obelisk to long as the mana does not deplete and their connection remains untempered with. Applications – Guidelines and Redlines Spoiler The mana inside an obelisk is known as stagnant mana, meaning it can only refuel mana gems and enchantments, though has no effect on spells whatsoever. Mana Obelisks can be used to refill mana gems, enchantments, and arcane constructs. Enchantments fueled are not boosted in power even when constantly being charged. Mana Obelisks can only fuel enchantments within a ten block radius of the pillar, unless connected by a mana wire when over a longer distances. Mana Obelisks can be hooked up to Mana Wires in order to actively power some other form of enchantment or arcane creation. However, if not using a mana wire, a present transfigurationist is a requirement in order to redirect the obelisks’s mana into the new container. OOC Explanation Magic makes up a great portion of LOTC, especially when it comes to the Void. While the magic itself is fascinating and has a lot of potentially, there are deeper aspects of the lore which should not be forgotten. That is why I have taken it upon myself to rewrite this piece because I believe it is valuable lore. Mana Obelisks are important for most major enchantments and magical workshops, such an example being atronachs.. They help keep things fueled and functioning, without obligating the mage to refuel their enchantments every few uses. Pretty sure we’re trying to get rid of mana gems so it might be irrelevant if enchanting gets a proper update
