Sandsmithing

The Ability to Forge Out of Sand

Since the need of armor, tools and weapons; The art known as Sandsmithing has been around. No regular blacksmith or forge worker has the ability to create such wonders only using sand, materials and minerals alike. Sand originally comes from the weathering and pulverization of rocks over an immense period of time, sandsmithing is the idea of evoking the rocks and minerals from sand to create something.

<An example of a khopesh forged from sand>

Explanation

Material/Tool/Surrounding Requirements to Sandsmith:

  • Adequate inventory of sands, minerals and other rocks in the form of grain.

  • Flat platform/surface, usually a table.

  • Clean and fresh water source, whether it be in a pond or a bucket.

  • Necessary tools used to work with materials.

Using the magic of sandsmithing you are essentially taking advantage of the properties from the grains of sand depending on what material you want to create the item with. You have to cast the correct spells in the correct order to come out with an actual solid object instead of the sand falling apart or the sandstone just crumbling. After finishing the spells, there are still many things you can do to the item, sharpening, embroidering, enchanting are just a few of the many options you have when sandsmithing. You can sandsmith pretty much anything that you can forge, this includes weapons, bows, jewelry, tools and armor.

  • This is a single-slot magic.

  • The Teacher must have a valid TA in order to teach

  • The Student must have a valid MA in order to learn

Spells of Sandsmithing (In order)

Evoke Elements [Non-Combat]

The most crucial spell required to sandsmith, it's the ability to virtually undo the progress of weathering, erosion and pulverization on the sand. After casting this spell on the sand, the sand hardens into a crumbly, multicolored block of sand and minerals. Usually appearing a de-saturated red, the regular yellow and white sand color, then finally an iron, black or silver color depending on which materials were most present in the bunch of sand. After casting the spell, the sand will slowly start to form together and change form, taking a few minutes before finishing.

Spoiler
  • This spell is done by reciting the words “Evoke Sand!” while at the same time swirling your hands in a circular motion above the sand.

  • This spell only applies to sand and similar materials such as gravel and very light dirt.

  • The process takes about 2 irl minutes.

  • You can't cast this on an entire desert, that would essentially kill your character by draining them, also it would take years for this process to happen. The larger the amount of sand the longer, though for an ordinary sized weapon it will take about two minutes.

Sand Bathe [Non-Combat]

After casting evoke sand, you must carefully douse the sand in water, without casting the spell this would turn it into an unuseable wet sand substance, though if you cast the spell it will wash off all of the extra bits of sand while at the same time making the block a lot less crumbly and more solidified. It is recommended to carve the object out right after casting this spell.

Spoiler
  • This spell is casted by a simple flick of the wrist or a snap of the fingers.

  • This spell only applies to sand and similar materials such as gravel and very light dirt.

  • The process happens immediately after casting, then pouring the water.

  • You can't cast this on an entire desert, that would essentially kill your character by draining them, also it would take years for this process to happen. The larger the amount of sand the longer, though for an ordinary sized weapon it will take about two minutes.

Sand Sculpt [Non-Combat]

The third required spell to forge a basic sand-creation, this one finalizes the block into a strong sand-metal material, while still allowing it to be, sharpened or shaped without ease though. After casting, the block of sand would slowly materialize into a shiny, yellowish metal, or a yellowish stone depending on what type of sand you chose to use. This would be the finalization of the blade, though there are still a few more intermediate things that can be done.

Spoiler
  • This spell is casted by reciting the words “Sand Sculpt!” then at the same time, moving your hands with a circular motion above the material.

  • This spell only applies to the material after Evoke Sand and Sand Bathe have been casted, nothing will happen if casted upon anything else.

  • This process takes about 3-5 irl minutes depending on how large the item is that you are creating.

  • You can't cast this on an entire desert, that would essentially kill your character by draining them, also it would take years for this process to happen.

  • This new sand-made-metal is slightly stronger than normal iron depending on the density of metal/minerals/materials in the sand it also can vary in the colour tint, an example is if you use red sand, it will be a red tint instead of the yellow sand coloured one.

  • The sand-made-metal is also easily sharpened, more durable and typically inflicts ragged cuts when sliced with, almost as if being cut by glass.

Strengthen Sand [Combat/Non-Combat]

This spell can do anything from strengthen your sandsmithed blade in the heat of a battle, or allow your sandsmithed saw to chop through a tree with much more ease! It strengthens the properties of your sand items, causing them to have a pale glow. The effects of the strengthening will make it more durable, lighter, faster, and sharper. There is a way to make this a permanent effect on your sand weapons or tools, though the effects are lessened.

Spoiler
  • [Temporary] This spell requires a lot of focus, and the item being in both of your hands. To cast it you must recite the words, “Sand, Strengthen!”, then after a few seconds the blade will begin to glow.

  • [Temporary] The temporary version of this spell will strengthen your item for about 60 minutes irl.

  • [Temporary] The strength of the item will provide a decent advantage over someone using a regular weapon or item. The effects of the strengthening will make it more durable, lighter, faster, and sharper.

  • [Permanent] To permanently cast this on an item, it requires extreme focus and silence. You must surround the item in a circle of sand and cover it completely. Next, you must place both of your hands on the sand and recite the words, “Sand, Strengthen!” every ten seconds for 2-4 irl minutes.

  • [Permanent] The permanent version of this spell will have the same effects as the temporary but reduced to about 35% of the power.

  • [Permanent] The strength of the item will provide a decent advantage over someone using a regular weapon or item. The effects of the strengthening will make it more durable, lighter, faster, and sharper, though with the permanent version it will be about 35% of the temporary versions power.

  • Can only be casted once every 5 irl hours! No exceptions!

Sand Imbue [Non-Combat]

This spell is completely optional, and only recommended for more seasoned sandsmiths. You can take a normal forged item, made from any material and essentially infuse it with sandsmiths sand. You must place sand on top of the item before casting. After casting, the sand will liquify and drip downward into the item, disappearing and covering the item in a sandy tint and also strengthening it.

Spoiler
  • This spell is casted by reciting the word “Imbue!” paired with a simple motion like the flick of the wrist or and snap of the fingers.

  • This new metal-sand is not nearly as strong or high quality as if you sandsmithed it from scratch. Also depending on the density of metal/minerals/materials in the sand it can vary in the colour tint, an example is if you use red sand, it will be a red tint instead of the yellow sand coloured one.

  • The sand-made-metal is also easily sharpened, more durable and typically inflicts ragged cuts when sliced with, almost as if being cut by glass. None of this is as easy or prevalent as if you sandsmithed it from scratch.

  • This spell takes about 2 minutes to complete.

Redlines

  • Please listen to all of the red lines for each respective spell.

  • This is not the be-all, end-all of weapons, its very much possible to lose a fight using one of these weapons to someone using a normal iron weapon, sandsmithed weapons barely have an advantage in a fight, it's mainly just the properties and rarity of the weapons material which makes it better.

  • You can’t mass produce and sell sandsmithed weapons or items, they are meant to be unique.

  • You can only use your sandsmithing ability twice an irl day, or three times if you make all small items like jewelry.

  • [IMPORTANT] Strengthen Sand may only be casted once every 5 irl hours! The tier you are on does not change this!

Tier Progression

Tier One

  • Evoke Elements, Sand Bathe and Sand Sculpt can be learned

  • The abilities are a lot more draining and take more time

  • Likely only able to use it once a day

Tier Two

  • Evoke Elements, Sand Bathe and Sand Sculpt are a lot more efficient

  • Likely able to use them about 2-3 times a day

Tier Three

  • Learns Strengthen Sand and Sand Imbue

  • Strengthen Sand and Sand Imbue are quite inefficient and draining

  • Evoke Elements, Sand Bathe and Sand Sculpt are a lot more efficient

  • Likely able to use them about 2-3 times a day

Tier Four

  • Strengthen Sand, Sand Imbue, Evoke Elements, Sand Bathe and Sand Sculpt are their maximum efficiency

  • Able to use everything 3-4 times a day

OOC Explanation

I felt the need for a more in-depth way to create items and weapons. Rarity and special weapons have been lacking recently and no real way for something to be rare or special other than if its gained from an event and has a staff team signature on it. Also now there could be more diverse weapons as well. Finally, most magics are about combat and things like that, this one would be a more passive magic.

Stefan opens the letter seeing the title

and becoming hooked instantly. He would proclaim in a French accent, "Magic!? What a world we live in where people may be open about witchcraft and wizardry!" He takes a moment, raising his eyebrow as he considers, "Maybe I could get a sword crafted from this very...sand magic?" The Frenchman takes a seat outside the outpost of Darrowmere, home of the Lorraine Knights, throwing the note into the mud.

Very in depth and you obviously know what you’re talking about. Congrats, my twin!

This is just a subtype of earth evocation

Well written, though I’m gonna have to agree with Parker here. This is just a subtype of Earth Evocation. Sorry!

To be honest I’m all for people submitting lore for the discovery of other methods or beliefs regarding existing magics.

Voidal Evocation, such as Earth Evocation as we know it was discovered by someone at some point. There wasn’t always a teacher.

If someone has a decent reason to “figure out” voidal evocations or any magic but for a specific purpose and as a specialized subtype such as this one, for essentially weapon making, which creates more RP I am 100% in support of that.

Though it SHOULD still technically be voidal evocation, I wouldn’t mind it if it were learned as a separate magic. But it should specify “Earth evocation subtype”.

I haven’t read the whole lore yet, but I was looking for this comment haha.

You definitely did your homework!

Also even if Sand Evocation would fall under a subtype of Earth Evocation, it still would be a very nice addition!

I thought this was a lore submission, not rp but ok. Also +1 Noz, Good job.

An aura of power erupts around Miamara the Desert’s-Bane Witch in a torrent with power akin to such wild sandstorms; her hair, unkempt yet somehow so very beautiful, whips in the untamed winds as her beady eyes gleam with a righteous lust for strength. Her lithe hour-glass-esque form, refined with diets, exercise and bulimia, bends to the rich, red ground and elongated fingers, elegant in their own luscious manner, grasp the scarlet sand to then be dribbled on the fine blade she laboured so on – with forges and all that!!!

”Sand, STRENGTHEN!” she screeches with a strained moan.

”Sand, STRENGTHEN!” she screeches with a strained moan again.

”Sand, STRENGTHEN!” she screeches with a strained moan and again.

Miamara proceeds to repeat this, in the inexplicably appealing anime-screech four more times, having to have said the two second phrase every ten seconds for four minutes. By the end of such, she is resulted with a blade 35% weaker than a decent% stronger than regular weapon. The Desert’s-Bane Witch wields her scythe, her straight, white, teeth gleaming in a petite smile as her thin fingers hold the mighty creation of fine smithery. And in such a process has the nature of that which she somehow sources her magick been evoked upon her own mortal incarnation. Saliva is scarcely about her mouth, dry like a desert from such a mouthy work. What is she to do now, but find some water to swallow and relinquish her mortal form from the suffering of thirst?

this is really horrible lore and coming from a CT makes me really really disappointed

You should give RP examples of how this stuff is emoted.

OK. I am left a bit confused by this.

I understand the basis of this, one basically turns sand into some form of metal though a magical process. Ok, cool.

But what is this metal? What is its properties? Whats its rigidness, its density, its melting point, (etc)? How does the

differing compositions of sand affect the end product? How can a metal be embroidered? How can a bow be made

of this metal? Do seashells in sea-sand have any affect- or is this only able to be used with desert sand? How was this

magic discovered? Whats it based from? How are these weapons honed? How do you work this ‘sand-metal’? How much

sand can someone affect at once? How much does imbue strengthen something? Can imbue be used over and over

again to strengthen a single item to being insanely strong? You do realize that the sharper something is- the less ragged

or inconsistent the cuts will be? How does this magic make things sharper or lighter? Is this sand harder than steel or just

normal iron? If these items are superior to iron items, and acn be further strengthened even moreso- how does it not give

someone a signifiacnt advantage over someone just using iron?

Purpose wise: Currently, special or magical items are on hold, given none may be made during the lore-games. Likewise,

examples of specifics of what exactly ‘diverse’ weapons would be would be extremely helpful.

Metallurgy and smithing is something that is really fun, and has an insane amount of depth, yet I am left confused reading

this rather than excited to see something unique and interesting being added into the item creation department.

Warms my heart, thanks bro. Also it seems pretty offensive, just taking the dump on what i’ve spent time and effort into, maybe next time try being a bit more thoughtful before you let you voice run wild ?
