The Republic of Galaron

Date: 612 AR (2202 AD)

The Light of a New Era:

Captain Voul Neasis of the ship the Bright Future sat in the small labaratory of the science ship. Looking in fascination at one of the pieces of crystal they had gathered from the planet below them. Though of course the crystal was in a lead-lined box with him only touching it through gloves built into the box itself. In the box there were a handful of pieces of equipment scattered around it, mostly to do the experiment of today on the as-of-yet unresearched  material. First of course he looked on the geiger counter, which showed radiation levels which were of course higher than normal background radiation, yet it was still clearly in the non-lethal area. The only concern might be if there was daily exposure for long periods to this crystal.

After that, with the help of an old-fashioned chissel and hammer (though smaller versions of them) he carefully chipped pieces of dust from the crystal and gathered it in a vial. This was then followed by putting a small vial of water in to a machine, configuring it and then putting the crystal into the clear water. Then the vial was put into the machine and a set of numbers came from it. As he saw this the captain nodded and removed his hands from the large gloves and grabbed a datapad from a nearby table and pressed the record button.

"This is captain Voul Neasis of the Bright Future. A test with the spectrophotometer indicates that the refractive index of the material designated as 'Xylorite’ is roughly equal to 1,5405. This is after five duplex measurements have been taken over the course of 3 days. ” After saying this the captain stopped the record button and saved the record in the ship database. After saying this the captain went back to the box, cleaned up his tools and made his way out of the labratory.

Then, stepping out of the labratory he entered the white and grey hallway. The walls themselves smooth and almost reflective, the air feeling crisp and clean. Testifying to the quality of the air filtration, seeing as you would almost not notice the recycled quality of it. With the air itself probably already having been filtrated thousands of times.

As Voul stepped out of the door which went to the lab he saw another of his crew, Ynarris eagerly approaching. Seeming to walk with an almost extra spring to her steps. As well as her beak almost twitching with excitement at the prospect of studying the unknown material. As she approached Voul spoke to her, almost groaning with disappointment that he himself could not research the substance for a longer period. "How are you doing Ynarris. You look as if you have just jumped out of your egg.” At this the girl rolled her eyes and said. "Of course, only a fool would not be excited at a prospect such as this. An element with the potential to generate even more energy than even nuclear fusion. It is simply amazing” The more senior of the two couldn't help but smile at the youthful enthusiasm of his subordinate. Which honestly he himself was feeling as well. Yet he had to remain clear about this, and look at both the positives and negatives of everything. Rationally making a decision about everything. "It certainly is, yet one must not forget that all that can be used for good can also be used for ill. Whilst I of course rejoice about the energy problems this will inevitably solve, for our ships as well, we must be cautious. Without even running calculations it is easy to deduce that the sheer destructive power of this weapon as well. One could theoretically, if enough resources were put into this, create a weapon which could crack a planet's crust or perhaps even shake it's very core.

As Voul said this Ynarris let out a vague annoyed tone as she spoke. "You shouldn't be talking with such a clear Ulnaris convictions. I know it is in your nature to be suspicious of everything, which gave you this position as well, but can't you just look at this from just the good side. Not thinking about all the ‘theoratical catastrophes’ that can occur from this ?” As she said this Voul touched the middle of his beak in exasperation before responding. "You know the rules Ynnaris, no speaking of politics whilst on the ship. Anyways, enjoy working with the xylorite ” After he said that Vould nodded as he and Ynnaris now finally passed each other. But he could not help but send in a final jab. “Also if I might say so myself. You're lab journal is a bit sloppily done if I say so myself. Do better next time” Yvannis responded to this with a glare, quietly muttering to herself. "Shut up you eggbreaker.”

Whilst walking into the changing room for the laboratory she heard Voul shout after her. "Did you say something ?

Which was quickly answered by a shout echoing "No, it must be the voices in your head again” At which Voul loudly sniggered, before heading to the canteen for some well-deserved food.

Actions

Mod actions:

-The Bright future,(exploration ship), after it's succes in the discovery of xylorite is ordered to explore sectors B16, 15 & 14 before the next year. Though it is said that it is better not to achieve the set-upon goal if it means being too hasty.

Research actions:

Passive research:

- Quantum comms (2 years to go)

Research continues on the development of quantum communications. With the scientists promising that at the end of the year they will have at the very least managed to make a device that can work system-wide.

-T2 Armor (steel titanium) (6 turns to go)

Research continues on in the investment of increased armor for the ships of the Republic. In order that in the event of high-intensity meteor showers the ships of the Republic are more likely to survive.

-Xylorite research

Currency invested: 11,5k C

Whilst preliminary tests have shown that the element given the designation of 'xylorite’ has several different properties two of it's most interesting ones are that it is not on the table of elements devised by the Galaronian scientist Neveldem and that it releases high intensity background radiation, devised from the signal being so clear.

Thus, in order to find out more about it's properties in order to find it's full potential the element is extensively studied.

If the scientists have finished getting an understanding of the physics and properties of xylorite before the year's end the rest of year is to be dedicated to finding out how to begin using Xylorite as an energy source.

Financial actions:

On the planet of Galaron urban development continues. In part by building floating cities for tourism and relaxation but mostly by once more investing into previously neglected areas. Making it so that there is more job opportunity for people working in low-oppertunity areas. As well as investing in more business school to increase the quality of workers from the aforementioned areas.

Investment: 45k C (3 Business is built)

Economic development continues on the planet of Barun, for a large part focusing on businesses focusing on designing. As well as creating an urban development that will encourage free thinking.

Investment: 15k C (1 Business is built)

Tjiera was the capital of the Unitary state and as such was the planet where most businesses, military orders, and obviously the Tjack resided. Couriers and trade ships arrived in the spaceports daily thanks to Fusion and Warp technologies, ships could even land on world and take off with little effort save for the largest of commercial freighters. Their place was among the government shipyards in orbit which acted as the main port of Tjiera. Occasionally there would be an error in trade reports or mismatch of material but it never left the port and yards backed up.

Tjack, the eastern jewel was the only planet capable of competing with Tjiera in any meaningful way. The first colony formed by the state and the only to have tried to succeed has left it with both a great sense of pride and strong background in independence. Quickly after rejoining the Unitary state, it became something of a commercial competitor with multiple new start-ups forming and growing in recent years.

Population: 20,200,000,000 Tjierans

Economic Expenditure: 108,750 C, 9 M, 1 F

(75,000 C) The final industrial megastructures are built on Tjiera bringing it to its peak industrial efficiency. [5 Industry.]

(25,000 C) Construction of a refinery on Tjack to enable more ships to be fielded by the state.

(12,500 into research.)

[MOD] The exploration ship built previously is assigned to begin surveying for any unique resources within the Tjieran borders.

Research Expenditure: 3 Free Slots

[Slot 1] The Tjieran’s in great need of faster communication between their planets and ships begin researching a way to instantaneously send data and messages from point A to point B. [Interstellar Communications] 2205-2206 EST.

[Slot 2] A need for speed was on the mind of Tjack’s scientist and the process of constructing a much faster warp drive begins. [T2 Warp.] 2211 EST

[Slot 3] Significantly strong strides in metallurgy in recent years has helped propel the Tjierans into space but however their materials could be produced at faster rates. [Streamlining Industry] 2206 EST [12,500 is placed into this to boost it.]

Spoiler

Throughout the stars, society always places a value on specific traits above others. Some value courage, for others it is the ability to  wield a blade, or to put others needs above your own. The Ymorians are no different, for they see the desire of knowledge as the greatest quest any of them may take. Whether it is to learn to benefit themselves, others, or those who have yet to arrive, the Ymorians take pride in all aspects of learning regardless of the means needed to obtain this knowledge.

Although not far from their predecessors in their primitive rite of passage, the modern Ymorians take from their ancestors in their desire to go further than any that have gone before them. An innate, insatiable desire that drives the Ymorians to gain more of whatever it is they may have. To exemplify these desires, or rather in an effort to temporarily sedate them, a pilgrimage of immense magnitude is put in play.

Upon reaching maturity, or when they are physically capable, members of the Ymorian society are expected to take a trek to any part of the world in expectancy of finding a land untouched by previous visitors. It is then, so long as they return with proof of being there through the possession of wildlife or minerals from that place, that the person is brought into the Ymorian society in full and honored as a citizen. Those who fail return to life, as they have missed their opportunity and are deemed ineligible for citizenship. They go on as servitors, laborers, and other low-expectancy jobs while the full citizens are granted their freedom to proceed in any kind of field they wish.

‘I’ll have a job now.’ He told his wife and little hatchlings. Recently he’d been laid off for unknown reasons, leaving him jobless with a decent sized family who were now living off their savings and burning through them rather quickly. Diapers are expensive. This new job would pay quite handsomely if he were able to keep it. Plus now he’d be a government official, many benefits to come with it. The next morning he walked to the ministry of colonial resettlement and got his work assignment. An inspector he was to be. This was going to be interesting at the very least.

Turn 3

Year 2203

The nations take their first steps and begin their expansion into the stars. For some, the day of first contact might approach sooner than they think.

---

UNITED FEDERATION OF SKELLAR SYSTEMS

The vessel reports back that the colony has found a few easily accessible deposits of metals and minerals, that however are quickly mined and stockpiled. Other than that, there is little of note to be found. (+5 M)

On the research front, the additional project for improved kinetic weaponry is met with mixed opinions, as the funding seems to be a bit... low. But the scientists are diligent and can already give the estimate that with CURRENT funding they will reach a conclusion in nine years.

The colony reports back, that a foreign ship has briefly appeared in the system before withdrawing, just as it reached orbit over the colony. Hailing attempts went unanswered. Since a government operation can be disregarded, this must be a foreign species not encountered so far. It’s already quite exciting to learn that there might be other races that have achieved spaceflight!

The State

The exploration procedures continue, a bit more focused, slower, a system at a time. The majority of the reports hold little news, normal systems, abundant and rich in Minerals and potential common Fuel sources. More detailed for sure, analysis of biospheres and planetary particularities included, but nothing extraordinary. However the examination of the homeworld system reveals a previously undiscovered type of metal being present abundantly on one of the many moons of a gas giant. It’s density and molecular structure are beyond anything known and it might be worth investigating!

The increase in funding is welcomed by the science and engineering teams allocated to the project. With the additional staff and personnel they continue their research at a faster pace, estimating that they might finish a year earlier if a similar sized funding package is received.

The Republic of Galaron

A massive cloud of Helium-3 and Deuterium and Tritium are found in one of aforementioned sectors. Civilian contractors are immediately ordered to scoop up as much of the usable fuel as possible. (+10 F)

Xylorite is a peculiar element. In its crystalline form it is stable, but once energy in any more concentrated form than mere light and common radiation is brought into it, it triggers a volatile reaction that can lead to substantial release of energy, mostly in the form of an explosion. The scientists know, if they can somehow regulate this reaction, the energy released could be utilized to power ships, vehicles, even cities if need be. Or to arm bombs. They expect a result in three years at current funding.

Tjieran Unitary State

Unfortunately the exploration vessel is unable to discover any resources of interest this year. Perhaps another year might yield results.

The aggressive pursuit of industrial optimization has lead to the update that the project is estimated to conclude a year earlier now, as well as notifying that they are pursuing an estimated increase of 10% in metal production at the moment. It may seem little, but on the grand scale it might be quite convenient.

The Ymorian Collective

The ships return two weeks before the year is out, bringing reports of many systems, all uninhabitated, except for one world to the east, three sectors from the border that appears to hold a mysterious planet covered in ruins. They had not much time to focus on analyzing it as fuel was short and they had to make the return trip to give a report. The origin of it is definitely unknown.

Zyrka Republic

A surprisingly quiet year for the Zyrka Republic. The people seem content, and whilst research drags on slowly, the economy is expanded upon, creating more wealth and workplaces. Due to a mathematical error by a random Zyrka clerk in a lot of white clothes, more money appeared in the national funds. He was promptly fired at first when he admitted to his mistake, but upon investigation, nobody was overtaxed or anything. The money was just... there. And the Zyrka in question gone. (+5,000 C)

Empire of Sol

The scientists are proud to report that with the addition of more resources and staff, they managed a breakthrough in the matter of quantum communications, shaving off TWO years from the original estimate. Next year, the Quantum Communication device shall be ready and operational, ready to be implemented into the national communication grid as well as integrated into all ship systems where possible. This might introduce a new era of speed to them all.

Less notable, but still good news, is the information that the Fusion Reactor project will finish a year earlier now.

The new metal is incredibly tough to mine and even harder to refine. Itoron it is named for some unknown reason, and the scientists come to love it for its challenge. They demand three years of the current funding in order to finish the studies and make it ready and available for mining, as well as refining and other metallurgical purposes.

The exploration vessels encounter nothing of note, except for a series of giant stellar lifeforms that are like... whales in the ocean. They eat stellar gases and solar winds and are docile, even being careful not to damage the comparably small exploration vessels.

The Republic of Galaron

Date: 613 AR (2203 AD)

Exploring the basement:

A basement,  it is a concept universal to civilization. It is so universal yet so varied at the same time. At it’s most basic a basement is a floor of a building that is under the ground level. This is universally agreed upon, yet the function of this basement is as immense as the universe itself. It can be a place to store supplies, mostly tools. It can be used as another floor to do administrative work or do maintenance. It can be used for many things. Yet when people hear the word in Galaron they have an immediate imagine in mind.

A place of past glory.

Since the earliest days that civilization existed Galaronians built basements. Either for storage or just general relaxation. It was somewhere that Galaronians were comfortable in. Yet as the modern age reached Galaron it’s people went to the skies people forgot about basements. People looked to the stars, to endless possibility. Leaving behind the stories of an old world.  In some settlements on Barun it would even go so far that most buildings would not even have a basement. Yet this story is not set on Barun, it is set on the ancestral planet of Galaron.

There, in an ancestral house, near the unurbanized northern pole of the planet two young Galaron stood in front of a door leading to a basement. It was a house that most would say did not belong in the modern era. It was a log-cabin. Though the wood of it had probaply been replaced dozens of times it still stood. A vacation home for the Engallo family. A place of comfort and family. Yet even as the brothers Verlan and Ilon stood in front of the door they remembered the distant, saddened looks that were given in regards to the basement.

There had never been an order never to enter the basement, there had never been a need to. Sometimes intentions were best left unsaid. Yet now on this eve, just before their 18th birthday, the two Ganvius stood in front of the basement. Ready to enter the legendary unspoken room. As they stood there Ilon spoke.

"Are you sure of this Verlan” To which the aformentioned Verlan resolutely responded. "I am” Then with a small amount of akwardness and a little tension Verlan opened the door.

Or at least attempted to, the door itself was quite creaky and stiff. Which resulted in him akwardly pushing against the door till it went ajar.

As the two-brothers looked down they could only see little. The light of the lamps upstairs only faintly shining into the basement. Then, leading the two, Verlan walked down the creaky wooden steps. Cautiously setting his foot down, making sure the wood had not rotten. Which luckily it hadn't. As he did this he held up his datapad's flashlight function. Which helped illuminate the room and give a first impression of it. What could be seen was that it was semi-large, about 10 by 10 meters and it had a square structure. Down the side of one of the walls were the stairs which the two brothers were standing on.

As they walked down the stairs the two brothers quickly saw a light-switch near the end of the stairs. Verlan flipped it on and both brothers squinted as their eyes adjusted to the light. After taking a moment to recover the two brothers looked aorund. And for all that they anticipated this, they were on the one hand dissapointed but on the other hand fascinated. On the one hand it was just a room. There was a large bookcase against one of the walls. A digital screen and a couch. and what looked to be a Meklok table. (A game that relied on mathmetical angles and the hitting of balls and the positioning of blocks to force it to take a certain route) There was also an old-depowered fridge and what looked to be several chairs and other pieces of furniture. As some would call it 'a man cave’

Though one should of course not forget the sheer dusty atmosphere and the cobwebs spread around the place as well as the insects squirming around it. All in all not an interesting place.

The only thing that caught the brother’s immediate attention was the book case. Book themselves were now nearly extinct, or at least not commonly used anymore. They were still in musea, antique shops and a few rare bookshops of old men in certain corners of some cities but broadly speaking they were not commonly used anymore. Which is why the two brothers were surprised to see a whole bookshelves filled with old books.

Thus the two brothers made their way through the basement, uncomfortably walking as a cobweb stuck to their hands of their beak every so often.

Ilon spoke up at first, vague disappointment clouding his voice "Oh this is... interesting”. This was quickly followed by Verlan saying "Is this really everything ?”

Turn 4

Year 2204

The United Federation of Skellar Systems are getting contacted by an unknown race this year. Following some first simple exchanges, they introduce themselves as Libellans. Clearly peaceful, their ship that they sent to make contact was a simple exploration vessel, bringing a few peculiarities such as dishes, toys and books filled with unknown words and symbols. Math is something what the two people share though.

Already elsewhere other people and species have begun to go beyond their borders, to know about potential neighbours, to find friends, but also foes. One must be prepared to protect his own interest, or grow together as interests may be shared.

The Republic of Galaron

It’s a breakthrough as the first signals are being exchanged between the colonized worlds of the Republic. Lightyears apart, but now so close, in almost realtime. Quantum Communications will allow the Republic to prosper like never before! Space just got so much smaller for the Galaron.

By happen chance the Republic finds rich deposits of Metal easily accessible in an asteroid field in one of their sectors. (+3 M)

Empire of Sol
2204
Solar Calendar

mUcHWzp.png

The SES Darwin maneuvered alongside the massive void dwelling creatures as they traveled along the solar winds. “These creatures are massive Captain, the Voyager crew noted that the creatures appear to be careful of our positions. Going out of their way to avoid crushing or hitting us.”

The Captain was amazed but he didn’t show it. “They look alot like whales..almost.” he said absently, the ensign was excited and found it hard to hide it. “I suppose this proves that not all life in the galaxy is so brutal and heartless.” The Captain didn’t want to admit it, honestly most humans wouldn’t admit to it. Though a beast is far different than a machine or sentient being. “Keep your eyes on your station ensign, we aren’t here to sight see. Message SES Voyager and tell them to prepare for Warp, we need to refuel and resupply at the Lunar Gateway.” he commanded, the ensign nodded “Aye aye, Captain.”

He glanced out the viewport at the great creatures before the ships in sync took off at light speed back towards Solaris. Though some back home might be fascinated at such creatures, Solarins knew and learned not too long ago that life existed beyond Earth. Most still remember that time.

Actions

Mod actions:

Research actions:

Passive research:

-T1 forcefields(11 year to go(without investment))

Investment this turn (16,75k)

Now that the quantum coms project has been finished funding and attention have become available to work on the forcefield project. A.k.a. creating a hardened field of energy around a ship. This project is now seen as more viable as xylorite has now been proven to be a possible new energy source.

-T2 Armor (steel titanium) (4 turns to go)

Research continues on in the investment of increased armor for the ships of the Republic.

-Xylorite research

Currency invested previously: 19,25k C

Currency invested this turn: 0 C

Turns to go: 1

4 Business is built (60k) (spread will be determined later)

Turn 5

Year 2205

Change looms on the horizon as the first few contacts are established and first encounters happen. Space is vast, but it grows smaller by the year, as people venture forth to find new riches and opportunities for their lives. To live, to thrive, to create a legacy for themselves and for their descendants. Now it only stands to find out what this legacy might entail.

Empire of Sol

Due to aggressive funding the Fusion Reactor technology becomes handily available 2205, with excess funds returning to the treasury. (10,000 C returned)

On the frontier of Itoron, the originally quite ominous super metal, news spread like wildfire. It is the super metal the majority of the science community has dreamt of, specifically for space construction very useful if used in alloys, given its innate hardness, making it also conveniently resilient against micro meteors that are usually made of lesser materials and mostly debris.

And on other news, a deep space satellite returns note through the newly obtained Quantum Communication methods, that a foreign vessel has been detected scouting a solar system at the very fringe of the Human-claimed space. Going by images the classification points towards exploration vessel class, very light armament, small size, no notable features aside from a decent array of sensors.

Zyrka Republic

((Feel free to adjust your post. Important are the date stamps on your research projects to keep track of things. I am certain Quantum Comms are done already. Also look into your population.))

Tjieran Unitary State

Scientists rejoice as the invention of a Quantum Communication device has brought the various worlds and outposts of the Tjieran Unitary State so much closer together. Communication in realtime over such vast distances is exactly what the nation will require for prosperous and ongoing expansion in the future. And to react to potential threats that may come of course.

As promised, due to the monetary investment two years ago, the scientists complete their task ahead of schedule, introducing new streamlined methods in the existing industrial method for metal and mineral refinement and production. An increase of 10% in output is hereby officially achieved.

The Republic of Galaron

The additional funding for the forcefield technology is a welcome one, and with the additional staff, they manage to finish critical formulas and calculations for the incoming first simulations and prototypes (much later down the road) earlier than originally planned. A whole year has been saved in time!

The careful and controlled extraction of Xylorite crystals has become available to the Republic of Galaron. With simple physical means, carefully microcutting and breaking away crystals with simple hydraulic force, they have been able to obtain rather vast quantities of the crystal ready for experimentation from the numerous easily accessible deposits. Whilst those might run dry, until the deeper deposits are required, the mining technology will be so proven and advanced that should never prove to be an issue anymore.

UNITED FEDERATION OF SKELLAR SYSTEMS DOUBLEPOST

Bad news. The newly colonized world holds nothing of interest, the sector being only home to a mad space beast it appears, that seems to threaten the safety of the new colony, as the Skellar have simply intruded on its territory. For some reason, despite being light years away it caught wind of it and is en route to the colony. Two years until it reaches it! Thank god for Quantum Communications, otherwise these news would have taken months to reach the ear of the government. (2207 at the colony, unless intercepted earlier)

Good news everyone! The Libellan Union proves to be very amiable, and although first contact has been a bit bumpy, they agree on both a trading agreement as well as a non-aggression pact! This might just be the start of a new friendship between two species so different!

Artificial gravity is not an unfamiliar concept per say, although originally it was generated by rotation on space station. This method is not very viable for warships and generally leads to bulky and inconveniently sized vessels that still held zero G sections. To solve this, a gravity plating must be invented, and as such the scientists proceed as planned. They estimate the gravity plates to be prepared and ready for testing in five years.

The estimation for the Kinetic Weapon improvement is off, and the teams report back that they still require eight years, despite the funding received. Shortcomings in the work of some researches have set back the project slightly. The excuses are the same. Underfunded, overworked, etc.
