Year 870

It’s quiet in the room of stone, where a throne with many carvings showing golden inlays sits. Osocchi Appachaqui is busy as usual outside, but as the palace with said throne room is located a bit outside and above the city, with a good view down to it from where one may sit on the chair of this land’s ruler, the voices of the Chimuquera do not reach in. There are no guards on duty, no retainers to be seen, no ministers present. The King is not at home. He went North, to Antramar, in hopes of furthering the diplomacy and perhaps even establishing a more solid bond of friendship with some of the neighbouring realms. And of course, to learn the lay of the world as it is. He is in company of the Archpriest. All the while, his best friend and loyal retainer Tuqua is South with the warmistress, to carry out the task of growing and enriching both the realm and the people.

So it is quiet. A bird flies in through one of the many windows, as a warm summer breeze carries it past the frame of stone. Curious glances left and right, with nothing to see, nobody around and not a single fly or worm to eat. Disinterested it leaves. It’s quiet in the room of stone.

Actions:

As per decree of the young King, new farmland must be prepared to acommodate the growing demand of food by the steadily growing population. So far the Chimuquera had no issue with their nutrition, but the King does not intend to have it become a matter. (-18,000 Quti for 4 farms)

King Thonaqan who travelled North to Antramar upon the invitation brings along a sizeable amount of wealth as a gift. It is a bit in hope that it will also help his pursuit of finding a suitable bride. (-5,000 Quti to Antramar)

Down in the South, Tuqua does not hesitate in his mission and invests a sizeable amount of Quti to acommodate the chieftains and leaders of the independent tribes and villages in the South properly. All in order to convey his liege’s message. (-2,000 Quti)

To the South, the Pachaqui begin to manifest their destiny by constructing two new keeps on the frontier. Primarily it is meant to consolidate their hold on the land properly. (-16,000 Quti & 4 AP for 2 Keeps; Map to follow)

Under the warmistress’ guidance, the Pachaqui Kingdom continues to train and arm an additional 1,000 men. 500 of them shall be warriors, whilst the other 500 shall assume their roles as Plumed Archers. They will be equipped with the highest quality of equipment the Kingdom has to offer and add to the force that is capable of defending the interests of the Chimuqueran people. (-8,000 Quti, -1 AP for 500 T3 Regular Infantry; -6,000 Quti, -1 AP for 500 T3 Plumed Archers)

Following an instruction left behind by the Archpriest, the clergy of the Pachaqui Kingdom focuses on training new adepts to strengthen the capabilities of the Chimuquera in case of a less mundane situation. Also the gifts of Mama-Pacha should not be squandered! (-30,000 Quti for 3 adepts)

The Kingdom of Pachaqui, in the name of King Thonaqan Micchuqui, sends out missives to the surrounding realms, specifically to Antramar, Kastovia, Aldemaric League, Tomuk Oburakai, Ardes, Ishikawa, Crimson Order, Mitrovic Empire and Krolestwo. The missive inquires and invites regarding the potential of a marriage of a suitable princess to the King, who is still unwed to this day. Negotiations may take place in regards to this. (Everyone)

The remaining Quti, rectangular chips of gold are being stored in the treasury of Osocchi Appachaqui, in order to save it for the coming year, where coin might become much more needed. (-1,100 Quti)

As the impaling spikes spell is concluded the next project for the priests of the Chimuquera is to elaborate on a spell that may mend cracks and damages in stone, as well as reinforce it against impacts and further damage through tremors, impacts and other less mundane means. Reinforce Stone and Earth shall it be named. (Passive, started 868, due in 872 as T2)

Past:

In the meantime, the Archpriest Solameqan orders the exploration of the gifts of Mama-Pacha, the powers she has bestowed upon the Chimuquera. The subject shall be the rapid formation of rock spikes out of the ground in a straight line from the caster, to impale approaching enemies. Whilst it seems cruel, it is essential that the Chimuqueran people have the means to protect themselves properly. (Passive study, year 4, due 868; now concluded)

Crimson Order of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen

This year marks the start of what may be a drastic change within the Duchy. Duke Gottfried and his retinue have travelled all the way to Antramar for the feast this year. But it was also a significant power play within the Order. The Duke was a major shareholder, but essentially a puppet to the Order. For years now however, Herr Gottfried had been pulling every single string he could. And it all culminates today. His family have officially offered a marriage contract to the strange southern mountain clans. Paired with the King of Antramar’s invite, it showed he was still a major piece in the game. The days of roving Free Companies operating on their own are long over. Centralized statehood and Industrialization has come for the Order like it does for all.......

World Events:
Time marches on, a year passes, it is now 871

With the Atemic-Aldemaric war finished, the Aldemaric position within the Sea of Chtor is somewhat weakened, and they lose portions of their extreme economic stranglehold of the region. The Atemic, on the other hand, begin to construct many keeps on the southern frontier. Their armies drive out bandits, and other settlers, claiming vast swathes of territory.

Lord Tarbus’ army remains in Antramar for the year, conflict between Antramar and Orev does not progress this year.

In Orev, there are whispers that the Emperor’s health continues to decline. Certain versions of the story even claim that he fell from his horse while marching and is now in critical condition at the Imperial Capital.

Amarantic Dominion

Techniques and organization capable of fielding units of heavy infantry will be ready by the year 874

Kingdom of Kastovia

The revitalized sport quickly takes hold in the City of Barowitz as well as much of the surrounding area. Everyone enjoys a good game, especially violent ones, and the implementation of a clear set of rules on Sigisimund’s part has done a great deal to standardize it’s practice. Despite its growing popularity, it is still an inkling compared to the massive wealth and renown of the Antramarian fighting pits.

Sigismund’s lack of presence in Antramar has been duly noted..

Choranic Empire

The Merdan Jengul are deployed to the Olk-wood, preparing supplies for an extended investigation if need be, they depart by early spring. Finding the hunters is no problem, convincing them to lead the expedition further into the wood is, however. Many outright refuse, claiming they want no part in whatever is taking place within the Olk-Wood (discord).

Chicahtoc Empire

Chicahtoc rides west… (discord)

Kemet

The glorious conquest of the Holy Nation continues! Priests and magi within the many Kemetese temples and the Pharaohs’ war camp itself see countless favorable omens in regards to the campaign. One even claims that a set of blessed chickens ate from a basket of wheat when commanded, and a murder of ravens was spotted flying north!

The Grand Principality of Rostukhov

Due to his victory in the tournament, CHADimir finds many willing instructors, including veterans of Antramar’s many campaigns or even seasoned pit fighters who are willing to teach him their various styles of combat at such a low rate, mostly to ride off his newfound fame. Following the year’s festivities, he begins his training and quickly catches onto the very aggressive style of Antramarian combat. (+1 Martial)

The artificers and engineers declare they will have a scorpion capable of throwing much heavier bolts or stones at significantly further distances by the year 875.

Pachaqui Kingdom

Following the mostly successful negotiations with the many small cities, tribes, and villages of the basin, many leaders and delegations arrive to formally swear fealty to the Pachaqui Kingdom. The realm’s southern territories see an influx of small gifts, and many missives arrive placing the War mistress in command of what few garrisons the areas have at their disposal.
(+2 towns, +1 keep, +2,500 medium inf, +10,000 quti ) (Towns do not apply to cap nor add to city cap)

Furthermore, the many delegations state that they could arrange an audience with the Grand Emperor of Ak, should the Pachaqui wish.

Crimson Order

The storm riders find little of note, wide open plains and quiet countryside is the most common. Naturally there are roads which lead to the Mer’akian domain. The border regions are protected by a small keep.

The Perasmani League

The League’s ships operating within the strait of Umeso proves to be far more successful for piracy. Though they were ordered to cover a larger stretch of ocean, many of the crews simply disregard it, as pirating the sole artery of Fydoran-Chtoric trade is FAR more profitable. The fleet sinks many ships they think are bound for Ishikawa, and steal many ship’s worth of loot. However, all this disruption draws the ire of Tetrarch Aeton, who’s own fleet is deployed  at the year’s end to protect shipping through the strait.
(+35,000g)

The League’s foes are not idle this year, and strike on many of its southern trade routes, sinking yet another vital steel shipment from Khrav, and damning many more merchant vessels to the bottom of the cold sea..
(-5,000g)

The Ishikawan Shogunate

The Perasmani continue to attack the trade of the shogunate, now the vital lines flowing through the Strait of Umeso! Few are in a position to stop them throughout most of the year, until the Tetrarch puts and end to the piracy in late summer. Still, the coffers are hurt tremendously by the operations.
(-40,000g)

The Shogun’s frigates continue their operations in Fydor, sinking many ‘cheesemen’ ships, including one of their valuable steel shipments from the mainland.
(+4,000g)

Kingdom of Ardes

Another year passes in Ardes. Several ships arrive throughout the year, claiming to be from Maeya. They tell of entire villages, cities, armies, and fleets laid waste to. Furthermore, they state it is unlikely anymore ships have or could escape the isle.

Crimson Order of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen

The Lord General of the Crimson Order and his Great Captains have been busy for years now. Their single minded goal has driven them to many ruthless ends. But in the end they had begun to achieve what they set out for. The Crimson Army was shaping up to be a truly fearsome fighting force. Rank upon rank of seasoned troops in expert crafted armor march in long lines. Every year thousands more join the call to arms. No more can the Free Companies be relied upon to work and fight together. Now a disciplined and unified standing army guards the Duchy, and is supplied off it’s power.

As the army swells to greater and greater numbers, other things are changing rapidly in the Order. For so long the Civil War had wracked the realm with death and famine. Decades of conflict burning the land and entire generations to ash. Only so recently with the formation of the Crimson Order had things begun to regrow. But even then, it was under an uneasy military coalition, ruling through a Ducal mouth piece. But the people of the Duchy were not all mindless sheep, to be herded here and there. Fears were rising with Mer’ak and it’s failed assassination attempts. As well as unending war and looming threats to the west. No more could local mercenary Captains in charge of a few hundred men be relied upon. And even more so, their ranks were being stripped for the main Army.

d4oqlju-af749913-7264-4c82-8c14-d01473ab

With all this brewing few educated Noblemen and Knights wanted to take orders from Mercenaries. More and more their support was solidifying behind a central figurehead. Duke Gottfried however was still abroad in his travels, unable to foster this support. Regardless Low level nobles and mercenaries begin to butt heads in the more rural areas. Disputes on taxes, and the ever growing demand for the materials of war. With the Dukes daughter potentially marrying a King, many wanted a far more regal Realm. One where they elevate the Duke and Nobility caste into the center of power. For now however, the Crimson Order and it’s Council keep a tight grip on the developed lands.

 THE AMARANTIC DOMINION

871

Belioc Thal, underscribe second-class in the Office of Corporeal Auditing, was having a perplexing week. Dregs from Crucible’s slums have been going missing at an unusual rate. Not simply dying, for the corpses are always accounted for. Bringing a body to the servants of the orders is rewarded with food, no questions asked. Few cadavers last long in the streets before being hastily dragged off to the brokers. The desperate aspirants and wretched failures are kept alive in sacred despair another sorry day, and the material for works above remains in good supply. But the meticulous bureaucrat of the Guild of Morticians – the (allegedly) neutral body responsible for distributing bodies to the various orders, lesser cults and private ritualists of the upper city – had noticed a distinct discrepancy in the recorded number of entries to the slums (those damned by birth and poor fools who come willingly) and fresh bodies acquired by their agents!

Some loss is to be expected, naturally. There are so many ways to die down below that a body may go undiscovered till it has decayed to the point of worthless bone scraps. Not to mention the scourge of cannibalism. Oh, some of the orders may see it as indicative of the mindset they wish to create in the Crucible, but not Belioc, and not Guild! Bodies are revenue! But no, the grisly arithmetic of the Guild accounts for all manner of mutilatory mishaps with corpses. No. This is something new. Perhaps an unusually active class of the Order of Shadows fresh aspirants? The Wraith Warriors have been known to stalk prey among the poor masses, spreading terror and dread. All in the name of heightening despair, apparently. The Orders were deeply concerned with inculcating such states of mind in their recruiting pool. But such concerns were not Belioc Thal’s. The Shadows, and all the other Orders, are well entitled to their sport as masters of the Dominion. Still... if that were the case, the Guild would have received word of above average mutilations and flayings. Though subtle in most aspects, the Shadows truly let off steam in slums. Give in to the baser urges long suppressed, as it were. This was more calculated than student “pranks”. There was a new drain on the hopeless throng in the slums... one that must be accounted for.*

Quite the conundrum! But one for another day. His shift was over, and there would be many more deaths to account for tomorrow.

Such are the words of Ninûr. Heed them. They will guide you in the darkness of the world.

Nergal’s Gloam

The Gloam was there when Nashorazirpal arrived. The dark tunnels twisting below Samalstraza, an infinite maze buried so deep, and spreading so far that no real end has ever been scouted. Few are insane enough to venture down within these grotto’s, for few who ever enter manage to find their way out. It is said that the walls are inscribed with ancient knowledge, forbidden to this world, and hidden from mortal eyes. The writings of mad priests, scrabbled with their last strength as the darkness whispered secrets into their ears.

Only the aspirants of darkness roam these tunnels, and even to them they bear danger. Sleep is a dangerous exercise when unknown quantities linger within the shadows. Yet here they have been cast, exiled from Samalstraza proper, cursed to survive within eternal gloom, scraping at rocks for survival, and running bony fingers along ancient writings, deciphering secrets that were never meant to see the light of day.

Actions

-Absanesh the Augur travels to Orev with Alâ, Sorceress of Light, to pay their respects to the old King. During their stay, Absanesh offers to let Alâ act as the King’s doctor, using only scientific knowledge gathered by the Hall of Light within Samalstraza to tend to his health, and only using her magic under his supervision.

-Before and after their arrival in Orev, Alâ moves throughout the nations of the Midlands with her retinue of Thrice Chosen, going through small villages and hamlets more than town and cities. Wherever she goes, she tends to the wounds of those around her, healing broken bones, fevers, sick children and crazed elders, with magic of science. Clad in white, her dark skin contrasting sharply with it, she is like an angel escorted by ten steely wolves.

-In Antramar, Runi Abda capitalizes on the honor given to her by the monarch Savos in the previous year and continues to build her influence in court. She begins to organize weekly, extravagant parties for the nobility, and uses her advanced education within Samalstraza to attempt to cement herself as a voice of intelligent counsel within these parties, as well as an artful entertainer. With this, she also begins to scout out the most prestigious bachelors within Antramar…

-Megûra the Exile, along with Nimra the Footless, and the nine companions, exiled Thrice Chosen, spend their time in Alean, where they let it be known that they can be recruited as bodyguards, monster-hunters, bounty-hunters, or many other mercenary tasks.

Spells

In Progress:

Nîm Peradin - T3 light - 872

New (FROM 870)

-Light - Light / T3: Judgement - Two forms of this spell: It can be used in long duration to see any who may bear the caster ill-will, even through solid objects. When activated, it allows them to shoot beams of pure light from their eyes to strike down any enemies. It cannot damage non-organics apart from undead/ghosts/evil creatures, but it can go through physical objects that are not organic.

-Direct Magic - Defense / T2: Hex-Flect Barrier: The caster shapes a barrier in a specific direction. The spell absorbs incoming magic and either dissipates it, allowing more to be absorbed, or reflects it back as a beam of magical energy. The storing capacity scales with the power of the caster.

-Nazât

-Direct Magic - Offense / T3: Ley Bomb: The caster generates a pulsing ball of magical energy in a location, and channels as much power as they desire into it. Then, they detonate it in an explosion of blue and yellow energy. Can be cast in areas in which they do not have vision.

Year 870

“...and tell the Master of Crops that this takes importance over the yearly crop budget report. I will hear it upon my return next year, this mission is much more important.” Thonaqan orders to his former tutor the Archpriest. “For my absence I entrust you with the governance of the Kingdom. This opportunity requires my personal attention, so I must take the first chance I get, otherwise a new one might not even come.” The duo is walking up the stony stairs to the palace high above the city of Osocchi Appachaqui. Just as they approach the door a figure comes out of the shade. It’s his loyal retainer and friend Tuqua. “Tuqua!” – “My liege.” – “Wonderful work, wonderful! Come, let’s head inside and take a quick seat. The next steps are of utmost importance.” King Thonaqan places a hand on his friends shoulder to gently push him back into the throne room. “I heard we have new subjects, wise men and women who joined the Chimuquera as equals?” – “Yes, indeed.” – “Great! But, to appease my eagerness, I must visit them at once. Best to do so whilst the opportunity is young. Visit them, introduce myself and get to know these leaders. And then to head South to the Grand Empire of Ak.” – “Most prudent choice, my king. Will you take the Archpriest with you? Or perhaps the Warmistress?” – “No, no... Solameqan is to act as regent here whilst I am away, the Warmistress is to stay in the region in the South to make certain things are in order and see to the needs of our new people. You, Tuqua. You come with me to Ak.” A certain lack of words shows on the retainer who in the end bows his head. “So I shall, my liege.” – “Good. Then it’s settled. We travel south in three days. Enough time to recuperate from our journey I say. Dismissed, everyone.” With a wave of his hand he ascends to the throne of stone with inlays of gold, as his courtiers leave one by one. Thonaqan sits down, restless mostly, drumming with his fingers on the armrests of the massive piece of furniture. After a while he calms down, closing his eyes.

Exhausted he dozes off, unaware of the little bird that has returned to one of the windows, carried by a warm breeze. It looks left and right, sees the sleeping King, observes for a little, before flying off again, with little interest for the trivial matters of man and politics.

Actions:

As per decree of the young King, new farmland must be prepared to acommodate the growing demand of food by the steadily growing population. So far the Chimuquera had no issue with their nutrition, but the King does not intend to have it become a matter. (-18,000 Quti for 4 farms)

Another adept is ordained by the Archpriest in the time of his regency. (-10,000 Quti for 1 Adept)

The Warmistress emphasizes the need of having plenty of capable ranged combatants to support the currently somewhat warrior heavy army of the Kingdom. Four new companies of Plumed Archers are trained in the new province in the South to bolster the Kingdom’s forces. (-4 AP & 24,000 Quti for 2,000 T3 Plumed Archers)

The town of Mataqachi is expanded as a new city to secure the domain for the Chimuquera in the South. (-31,500 Quti to upgrade to a city)

Archpriest Solameqan is getting continously pestered by the Master of Crops until he obliges and orders the construction of two new civilian districts in the capital. (-13,500 Quti for 2 CM)

(-6,300 Quti)

Pack Mule Place, on the corner of Rattay Row and Duchiewicz Avenue.

King Sigismund often took it upon himself to venture forth from grace, walking the streets of the common rabble. It kept him in touch - aware of himself and the needs of his people. He and his entourage strode down the length of tight alleys, flanked by multi-storied buildings looming overhead - nearly shading the roads from sunlight in entirety. The residents of this district were quite tightly packed - with room for no more than two horse-drawn carriages to pass abreast. Yet, the people got by. Vendors peddling their wares vigorously - sweating and their throats dry, eager to make their keep while passersby perused the fine selections of houseside stalls and tradesmen.

One such road on which King Sigismund and his entourage turned down was Rattay Row - infamous for its diverse selection of meats available - the methods of acquisition particularly withheld from the consumer. It had a charm to it, one that inspired a sense of home of comfort. Sure it stank of raw meat and various juices drained freely from the butcher’s boards onto the streets, but it was timeless - something always characteristic of Kastovia, and the Royal City of Barowitz - testament to the hard-working ethic and refined tastes of the Kastovian peoples.

At the corner of the block and rather offensively jutting out into the middle of a high-traffic intersection was the renowned Pack Mule Place, an inn and tavern frequented by all castes of Kastovian society for their fine brew and warm beds. Yet, more so than the street they just tread, mud made up the paths leading up to the tavern, indicative of its high traffic - the worn out rodes no longer able to bear the stress of thousands of harsh boots kicking up the soil - dampened by the fluids flowing downhill from Rattay Row.

King Sigismund stepped in quite a nasty pool of muddle, a murky mess of brown water and game animal’s intestine. In fact, he had to wrench his boot free, yanking his leg, cursing God, and sighing. “Damn these roads. Why haven’t these been paved?”

“I believe we haven’t found room within the budget, Father.” said the voice beside him, that of Prince John, Sigismund’s eldest son and heir, who surged forward the hold the door open for his father.

“Hmph. Well, we’ll make the room.” Sigismund said, clambering the steps leading up toward the tavern. He nodded to his son, clasping him on the shoulder when he, his son, advisors, and protectors were inside. “We ought to find you a wife boy. I think its time for you to go all the way with that girl”

“God be good, father, keep you tone down.” John scowled, leading them over to their reserved booth, tossing a bag of coin to the inkeep as they passed by. “She’s not some girl, father, she’s the princess royal of Krolestwo.

“I’m glad you’ve a grasp upon the gravity of politics, my boy.” he smirked, sliding into the booth. “Now, let’s get down to business.”
