Year 880

Time is passing, but every moment is precious, every day counts. The inactivity from the Khan might indicate either a preparation for an incursion, or that he did not care. It might even be a wholly different maneuver. King Thonaqan stands at the massive circular stonetable in the rarely used room of conflict in the palace, Retainer Tuqua with him, as well as a dozen of nobles and mighty warriors of the Pachaqui Kingdom. It is a mundane matter, and Archpriest Solameqan had different duties to attend to, so he was not present.

“We should try to fortify the stretches of land in the west, by the river and the hills, to remove the possibility for an incursion from the Khan and his riders. I think it would suffice if we deter him, as our first army has joined the Mitrovic Empire to carry the fight into the Khanate.” – “Noted.” replies Thonaqan to the warrior who just spoke. Tuqua chimes in: “I am uneasy about this whole ordeal. Usually not a pessimist, but what if the Warmistress fails? We need to weigh our options.” Thonaqan nods, as he gazes at the map in front of him. No reaction from the Khanate. A feeling begins to crawl over him... was it paranoia? “My king, we could attempt a separate push into their lands.” – “No, no, no. We will be slaughtered on the open fields. We have nothing to gain by marching in this early. The Mitrovic Empire needs to win the decisive battles, then we can advance together with them.” – “But outflanking them? Cutting off their route of escape?” – “First we need to know that the Khan is up North.” the nobles and warriors continue to argue. Thonaqan however paid little attention to them, his mind travelling miles upon miles, over mountains, hills and plains, passing by rivers and forests. “Paranoid. I am getting really paranoid about this.”, he thinks to himself. His mind halts as his gaze meets a certain point on the map. A weak smile enters Thonaqan’s stern face. “I have made a decision. Listen up.”

Archpriest Solameqan can not help but be fascinated as he sits in the garden of the stone palace of the Pachaqui Kingdom, together with Queen Monaqueta and the royal children. Qhapaq is piling up rocks, repeatedly, laughing with glee as his younger sister Chimiqua keeps toppling the pile. By merely looking at it, so it seems. It is ominous that the gifts of Mama-Pacha would manifest so clearly and intensely in a child, the aging Archpriest thinks to himself, for once not being distracted by the drums of war, down in the city, as more men and women gear up, joining the newest train of supplies and materials to the West. It was a big change, but the King made a call and the Chimuquera are loyal to King Thonaqan, for he is acting in their interest only. He lives for his people and thus he has earned their undying loyalty and love. Perhaps this love will spill into the descendants of Thonaqan as well, from the rowdy Qhapaq to the quiet Domaquetan who is idly watching the whole ordeal sitting on his mother’s lap.

Just recently the entourage from the Samalstraza has arrived, naturally to be housed in the palace itself, as guests of the King. Perhaps they have more input to the gifts that Chimiqua shows. And hopefully they bring no disagreements with them.

Actions:

As per decree of the young King, new farmland must be prepared to acommodate the growing demand of food by the steadily growing population. So far the Chimuquera had no issue with their nutrition, but the King does not intend to have it become a matter. (-36,000 Quti for 8 farms)

In a massive effort, under the King’s personal watch, the second army in support, the Kingdom erects three full castles at a critical region for the Chimuqueran people. The strategic value can not be overstated in the opinion of many. Not only as protection for the Chimuquera, but perhaps even realms beyond, Antramar, Kastovia and Ardes. (-15 AP, -54,000 Quti for 3 CASTLES)

In order to supplement the second army with more mobile units, three companies of Light Cavalry are recruited. For scouting, minor skirmishing, but also as a tool to forewarn the Chimuqueran soldiers in case of an attack. (-19,500 Quti for 1,500 T3 Regular Light Cavalry)

The only recently established town of Chanimaquan at the Dnedic coast receives vast supplies and workers to expand beyond its borders and to turn it into a fully fledged city at that. That should reaffirm the promise of King Thonaqan to enrich the Pachaqui basin and bring wealth to all its inhabitants and people, Chimuquera or not. (-31,500 Quti for 1 City)

Three civilian districts are constructed in other cities to increase the economic output of the nation. (-20,250 Quti for 3 CDs)

The remaining Quti, rectangular chips of gold are being stored in the treasury of Osocchi Appachaqui, in order to save it for the coming year, where coin might become much more needed. (-2,200 Quti)

The summoning and hurling of boulders becomes the next objective for the acolytes and clergy of the Kingdom. Thus far, the ones with the gifts of Mama-Pacha had little methods of ranged abilities, something Archpriest Solameqan agreed with the Warmistress to pursue, as need might very well arise. Naturally, the skill and focus invested into the spell should determine the size and velocity of the earthen object. (Passive, started 880)

Past Studies:

The next spell is to be named Bindings of the Sand. A spell that should be capable of rooting a person with magic sands to a location, hindering his ability to move, speak or perform magic altogether. In a sense they imagine it to be required if they ever have to seal something away that can not be killed by normal means. (Started 876; due in 880 as T2; now concluded)

Rapid winds can cause duststorms. But instead of relying on winds with the power of will grains of sand might be moved with a lack of them. A magical sandstorm is the goal of the new magical pursuits of the Archpriest, something to conceal movement or hinder enemy advances. (Passive, started 872, due in 874 as T1; concluded)

Urged on by the King’s request (and of course the funding that comes along with it), the blacksmiths and artisans of the Pachaqui Kingdom continue in developing the right arms and armor for the coming Mountain Lion Warriors. (-45,000 Quti & 10 AP for Heavy Infantry; 15,000 Quti last year; now concluded)

As the impaling spikes spell is concluded the next project for the priests of the Chimuquera is to elaborate on a spell that may mend cracks and damages in stone, as well as reinforce it against impacts and further damage through tremors, impacts and other less mundane means. Reinforce Stone and Earth shall it be named. (Passive, started 868, due in 872 as T2; now concluded)

In the meantime, the Archpriest Solameqan orders the exploration of the gifts of Mama-Pacha, the powers she has bestowed upon the Chimuquera. The subject shall be the rapid formation of rock spikes out of the ground in a straight line from the caster, to impale approaching enemies. Whilst it seems cruel, it is essential that the Chimuqueran people have the means to protect themselves properly. (Passive study, year 4, due 868; now concluded)

THE CHORANIC EMPIRE

bff8f6454c310f96538262342e047855.png

In the face of an overwhelming concentration of the forces of the profane Amarantic Dominion and their resurrected allies from Ralok Mus, the Choranic army in Lacunas withdraws with their Ishikawan allies. This unforeseen turn of events had completely brought the nascent momentum of their campaign to a standstill, and threatened to envelop their army. So soon after a succession of bloody engagements, Lacunas is abandoned.

This blow naturally disturbed and angered the Šāhan Šāh – a great many men had been spent taking that city, and now they had no choice but to render their deaths in vain. But it cemented a realisation in the King of Kings’ mind – the Kūraušahr would have to consolidate it’s positions. And that would have to start with Orev.

The Šāhan Šāh had extended his help to Clade Rellin, who he had supported as Emperor of Orev, several years ago, and the campaign had been successful but slow. Tolz, the Orevian Imperial capital, had been recaptured by Clade and the Choranic army led by Spāhbed Marduniya, and then successfully defended it against Oros Rellin, his pretender little brother. But it had been costly to the already small force. What had started as 6,000 Veterans was now just over 3,000 thoroughly seasoned troops. Their position was secure, and Marduniya has wisely had them assist Orev with the repairing of the largely damaged city and assisting the citizens return and rebuild. But if the Empire was going to be reconquering for Clade, they would need greater numbers.

The troops from the Amarantic front are therefore shipped from Shishima to the Fydoric coast of Clade Rellin’s eastern holdings. They will spend half the year recuperating in his secure lands, and assisting and familiarising themselves with the locals. Then, with reinforcements of nearly 3,000 veteran troops and a newly anointed Dastur, they would march to join Marduniya’s army in Tolz. The King of Kings’ ally would have his rightful Empire restored to him.

Meanwhile, as expected, the development of Kūrahan stalls. Only the necessary farmlands to keep the populace of the Empire happy and healthy are constructed this year around the growing settlement of Pharozeh.

A slightly greater sum of money is spent on the employment of the blacksmith hired by the Shogun of Ishikawa, seeking to combine his peerless skill with the natural properties of the material he is given – Meterite. He is to produce 25 sets of equipment using the gold-silver metal, armour and weapons that would be of a quality leagues beyond any yet seen. Eleven sets of this equipment would be kept by the Ishikawans, who fund the endeavour, and fourteen taken for the King of Kings. They would be sent to the Mobads and Dasturi of the Kūraušahr to make use of the energy-storing capabilities of the Meterite, and one set each would be provided to the Šāhan Šāh himself and to Marduniya. The final set would be gifted to Clade Rellin.

[9 Charisma, 3 Leadership, 1 Martial]

Meanwhile, in the lands of Orev, Kassandane had been at her wits’ end. Her attempts over the years since her arrival to familiarise herself to the ruling class of Clade’s Orev had been met with disinterest, likely owing to her unsightly visage and foreignness. However, with the recapture of the Imperial capital last year, a new opportunity presented itself to the Choranic noblewoman. The beleaguered city was being rebuilt, but by no means was it a working capital for Clade and his court – yet.

*Her plan was as follows – using a loan of a great sum of money from her wealthy family back in Kūrahan, she would purchase the deeds to ruined houses in the prime locations of Tolz for a discounted price, and then pay to rebuild and renovate them to the standard of the Orevian nobles and influential merchants. Then, she would sell these townhouses to members of Clade’s court and his noble supporters so that they could take up a relatively luxurious property in the immediate proximity to their Emperor’s court. In addition to hopefully making a tidy sum from flipping the houses, she aims to ingratiate herself to Clade’s courtiers and hopefully make her entry into the circles of Orev’s rich and well-born.

[Tech - Improved Ballistas]  Lacking the force of being able to penetrate hulls as well as to bolster the range of ballistas whether used on the ground or on a vessel, an upgrade to the artillery piece is conceived. The addition of a secondary limb onto the artillery piece to assist in both aforementioned lacking attributes is the primary focus to address the issue in hopes to create a stronger, more powerful ballista while keeping the load time comparable to the previous version. Ships in Lyffneveld Harbor cast off in preparations for maneuvers.

A young man stood outside the door of another’s dwelling. It was the East Wing of the Royal Palace. The door was hewn of fine pine - of which the masts of Anaxes’s treasured galleys were constructed - and reinforced with an iron frame. The wall was bare other than periodically dispersed Anaxes banners and half-lit torch sconces. The man stood hesitant, hand curled into a fist and hovering in the air. With an audible hmph, he reassessed his situation and pondered the hilarity of his own situation. There he stood, dumbly outside the quarters of one of his father’s courtiers. He seemed uniquely dashing in his exquisitely tailored suit of blue and gold, though perhaps lacked the swagger to back up the appearance. Others would pass him by along the stone corridors; a man and a lady, a pair of sentries doing their rounds, and an old crone who gave the most unwanted and disposable remark of Go n’ get’em, tiger - to which the man scowled. He shook his head. The wait was perhaps excessive at this point. At long last, he rasped upon the doors with two thuds. “My Lady, Marley, would you care to be my guest.. Err.. partner to tonight’s gala?”

He waited a moment and the eye-slot of the door slid open and a set of eyes stared back at him - sparkling with the hue of the shallows of the Chtor. With an arched brow, opposite to the man replied loftily, “Prince Harold - do you make a habit of asking out women at the last moment?”

“Well.” the Prince replied, flustered. “Not particularly. To be fair - I hadn’t even considered -”

The door swung inwards before he could finish and upon the other side a lovely noblewoman by the name of Marley Burr who, as Harold thought, appeared heavenly as the sun beat down upon her back from the windows across the room. She was slender and graceful, dressed in an elaborate gown of seafoam green - hair of copper hue delicately styled in a traditional Anaxese braid - which revealed her pale shoulders dotted with delicate freckles.

She placed a hand upon her hip, “And what would’ve you have done, had I already made arrangements with another?” she sighed. “Forget it, come in. I need your help anyways.”

The Prince casually stepped into the suite. “Anything. What is it?”

She turned away from him, towards a standing mirror at the far corner of her room, nestled beside her wardrobe and her study. Her eyes flittered up and down, taking a gander at herself. “I need you to zip this up for me.” she gestured toward her backside, which she seemed unable to accomplish on her lonesome.

The Prince readily obliged, to which Lady Marley pushed her hair aside. She had yet to decide whether or not to wear her hair down front or back and groaned. Her lips downturned and her expression turned to discontent.

“What is it, Marley?”

“Everything, Hary.” she threw up her hands and turned to him. “I don’t belong here. This palace. These people.

“Nonsense. You have every right to be here. My father doesn’t invite just anybody to live amongst us in the East Wing.”

“I’m a fisherman’s daughter. Even a half-wit could pick up on the sneers and snickering behind my back in court - that I reak of the fishes.” she cried, a tear falling down her cheek.

The Prince furrowed his brows. “Don’t undersell yourself, Marley. And don’t take anything from those bootlickers. They aren’t even worth an ounce of you. You stand as the heiress to perhaps the most expensive trawling enterprise in the Sea of Chtor. Who cares where your wealth derives? My father needs not the support of the old clans, but the ambitious and business-savvy - and you are a conduit for this new order.

She wiped the tear, nodding, “Right. If I’m to be taken seriously - I at least ought to act the part.” She smiled, finding herself instilled with a renewed confidence.

“With you at my arm at the gala, we’ll be turning heads. You look marvelous, Marley.” he bid her turn, finally lacing up the back of her dress. “Heh.. Marvelous Marley - that could stick. Marlevous perhaps.”

“Please stop.”

-After spending the year in the Pachaqui Kingdom, Parûma of the 2nd Ascent of the Hall of Elements comes to the conclusion that it would be most beneficial to the young girl to come to Samalstraza for her training. There, she will be taught by some of the most eminent elementalists in the world, and will be allowed to learn spells hitherto reserved for the elite Samalstraza magi.

-Arakelgûrdin is sent an envoy in the name of Samalstraza, with a very specific message for the five families of the ‘bastard of Samalstraza’.

-The Hall of the Kindly Ones, independently of Samalstraza, begins to send missionaries, Sisters and Brothers to spread the faith of the Good to every nation, that great entity that watches over all with a gentle hand, and loves every living thing with undivided attention. They come to preach, and to establish Halls of Healing. How will their words be received?

Actions

Runivera welcomes the newly flipped establishment into the fold, promoting the most highly ranking member to a high position within her organization, she simply continues her ferocious fight, incorporating the new establishment’s brand as a subsidiary under the greater Hatrâ umbrella. She begins to set her underlings to various tasks, such as targeting specific demographics, as well as the new-fangled concept of marketing, in an attempt to appeal to a diverse strata of society.

Now, the Kindly Ones begin to expand more ‘aggressively’ if such a word can be used for them. They send missionaries far and wide, seeking to convert any who they meet to the belief in Good, a great, overarching entity that loves all equally, and promises eternal joy to those who would but treat their fellow man with kindness and compassion. Lowest peasant to highest lord, the missionaries try to spread their word wherever they may.

Late in the year, an Aspirant by the name of Acid, of the 1st Ascent of the Hall of Alchemy, goes missing. Indeed, the girl, inspired by profit and pure greed, has eloped with a few like-minded underlings, bringing along with her two Thrice-Chosen sworn to her guardianship, Rayk and Orelsson. They escape into a hidden place, and occupy the ruins of an old fort, hall or village. From there, she and her followers begin to gather ruffians, thieves and all sorts of mongrels to her cause. For her cause is money. Using these ruffians, she begins to abduct lowly peasants, travelers, etc, and bring them to the growing base, to harvest the blue liquid, a drug which she now calls ‘Turquoise Dream’. Packaged into small dosages, she begins to seek contacts, buyers and fences to spread her drug business out into the wider world…

Can’t write dialogue, I’ve got nothing

-----------

Actions:

[Hoor actions] - Miyata Aiko has spent the last few years entrenching herself within Eyowith, and watched with great interest as the republic has lashed out against various foes in the region. As a foreigner, she takes great care to surround herself with protection, largely discharged veterans from her dear colonel’s regiment. After all, who knows when the government may tire of her attempted meddling?

The risk of such reprisals has never been higher, for in the year 880 a printing press arrives from an old friend on Awashima. In a city awash with hand-copied pamphlets, the hoor quickly puts the device to work drowning out other voices with her own newspaper, the Friend of the People. Articles in the paper, (penned by locals of course,) criticize at length the mass conscription of the populace and more importantly, the perceived lack of direction for the new republic.

With this new outlet for her treasonous thoughts, the hoor then tries to convince many of her simps to stand for office in the next round of elections, while she herself serves as humble party secretary. The new Unionist party questions the pointless conscription of recent years which is now being used for useless forays beyond the republic’s borders: when does it end? Eyowith, they say, should seek to repair the empire under one of the Rellin brothers, with the republic as its largest and strongest elector. Of course, which brother exactly is left ambiguous, by Aiko’s design…

[Trade Expansion] - Not wanting to repeat the failures of two years prior, the Ishikawa’s national trading company commissions a single keep on the river north. The area is better explored now, and they hope that establishing this base before going farther will allow for better supply lines.

[OPERATION THIRD LEG] - secret

[Shishima Siege] - Driven from the shores of Amarant by the risen Ghor, the remaining ~3300 Ishikawan troops dedicate themselves to tearing down the castle which still sits there defiant. With significantly more men to establish siege camp defenses and keep watch, their grip tightens over the hill. A choranic mage and two adepts still remain on the island, and their nova bolts tear at the enemy fortification...while someone keeps watch for dark magic tricks, of course.

[10 Frigates; 32 SP/60,000 Gold] - The mightiest ships afloat!

[1 Carrack; 3 SP/7,000 Gold] - Another ship for the home fleet.

[500 T4 Vet 1 Wokou; 1 AP/10,000 Gold] - The shogun recruits more pirates to serve in his merry band.

[Keep; 2 AP/10,000 Gold] - Trade expansion, see above.

[Trebuchet; 2 AP/15,000 gold] - Greater siege ability is direly needed, and the shogun orders a new engine to be disassembled and shipped to parts unknown.

[Adept; 10,000 Gold] - Another officer from Seishima!

[NEW NEW NEW] [Alchemy research w/ Eric; fire-resistant wood - 20,000 Gold] - In the wake of the Hall of Runes shifting its services to the Choranics, the Ishikawa turn their patronage to the hall of alchemy for another naval project. Most anti-ship weaponry today rely on fires to sink the enemy, for without a largebrained idea like repulsor bolts there is little a ballista can do to destroy a large vessel.

Knowing the alchemists ability to permanently alter material properties, the Shogun sets them to work toward designing a new treatment process to make lumber resistant to fire. If his new ships could be made to resist the most common naval tactic, it would give him a significant advantage!

[Boat fee to Brandon; 1,000 gold]

He wakes, thick beads of sweat forming on his brow. His sleep was troubled and fleeting, as he attempts to drift away once more, the whispers gnaw on the periphery of his hearing. They tempt him, offering great power, vast riches, revenge for his ancestors, he remains undaunted. The visions are lies. The visions are lies. The visions are lies.

“And for his betrayal- his acts against his kin, N’kuhana was exiled, buried deep within the mantle. Never was he to observe the light firmament again. Yet still, he stirs, he reaches out. Even I cannot escape his influence...” -Recollections of The Eye, The 14th Age
---

World Events:
Time marches on, a year passes, it is now 881

Curious news from Antramar. While preparing for a hunt, the esteemed Lord Tarbus falls from his horse, suffering a terrible blow to his head. For many days the man is unconscious, when he does awake, he remembers little that he once did. Many report a clear change in the man’s normally blunt, and cruel behavior. Nevertheless, a notable figure in Antramarian politics, the advisor Runivera has diligently taken to helping the lord recover from his injuries.

Awoken and established, the Realm of Ghor lashes out against the central Midlands. Vast and ancient legions take up arms once more, and continue their vicious expansion to the west. This year, their advance overtakes the Kastovian borders. In response, King Sigismund along with his allies in Krolestwo and Rhorric rally against the undead menace. The two proper forces clash just east of the Krolestwoian border, where the allies are totally overran, and driven back into the country.

The false idols and prophets of the Holy Nation have long since been sent tumbling to the earth, or smashed to pieces. The entire temple district devoted to the prophet is said to have burnt for months. In its wake, a truly massive statue of the god Soth rises, built on the back of slaves. Despite its cruel construction, one cannot help but marvel at its construction. Towering far above the earth at an imposing 200’, it is a marvel of engineering. Their expansion now unchecked, and their armies swelling in numbers, the Pharaohs of Kemet once more decree that there must be war, as it was commanded by the gods. Kemetese hordes pour from the eastern portions of the country, in a matter of months they swiftly conquer all but the most resilient of the Aldemaric fortresses and cities in the region, all while another force marches on Avon to the south.

Defiant and appalled at the attempt on his life, Mol Kjaro’s base within Wyom continues to grow, especially within the heartlands where the success of the Oligarchs on the warfront is less obvious. There are even whispers of the man departing his island stronghold to organize a proper invasion, what with the blockade of his only real territory being lifted.

---

Kingdom of Adozar

There are more than a handful of powerful noblemen with daughters across the realm, however, none of these will add to the nation’s strength as said noble’s forces already exist within the standing army.

Pachaqui Kingdom

The spell (t3) will be prepared for 883

The princess’s gifts continue to grow in complexity and power as she ages, the priests and shaman remain ever confused as to the purpose of such a blessing, yet they cannot help but be amazed at its power.

Grand Principality of Rostukhov

Another year..

Kurausahr

Gaumata sees the world more clearly- yet he sleeps less, hours where he onced studied, he is now troubled. His dreams are now perverted, and he can tell they are not his own. Against his will, he grows to crave utter and complete silence, where the faintest of whispers can be heard, occupying and reverberating within his mind, “You.. will see reason…”

Clade Rellin naturally accepts such a generous gift.

Kassandane’s plan sees mildling success. Her acquiring and flipping of several properties is of little issue, and many Orevian nobles highly value the thought behind such actions. Many of the rebuilt properties are sold within the year, and Kassandane herself begins to worm her way into the Emperor’s court.

Perasmani League

The goyim has been trying to peddle Ironleaf for several years now, and he finds no new buyers beyond what he already has.

Pytheas’ party needs to be more specific in where it is going

This new and more powerful ballista will certainly not be sinking ships on its own, but the design is notably stronger than its in-use counterpart. These new heavy duty artillery pieces will totally phase out the old models throughout the navy and army, as well as establish infrastructure for further production by 885, as long as the project receives at least 80k in funding between then and now.

Principality of Anaxes

Anaxes, what a wholesome land with wholesome people

More investment pours into the city, and it continues to grow as a hub for both culture and trade. Someone better make sure to keep track of how much money they’re dumping into this thing!

Teykh Syndicate

Just like the Persamani, the attempt to stabilize ship weaponry is unsuccessful, and quickly dropped.

While the various scientists do enjoy tinkering with steam and its properties, they find little in the way of real or applicable discoveries. One researcher develops a sort of sphere set on a single axle, which shoots out two jets of steam and spins, how novel! No actual use for the machine is found, however, and its forgotten before the year even ends.

Need to be more specific on spell

Samalstraza

Runivera’s war against the wine moguls continue, after her minor victories last year, there is little in the way of new developments, especially with much of her attention being given to Tarbus.

Acid’s little operation begins in the peaceful lands of Khrav, and kickstarts with little issue. By the years end, ‘Turquoise Dream’ is being sent as far as Orev and Kastovia, with her henchmen working diligently to expand such an operation. (+20,000g)

Rings of Power will be prepared for 85

Advanced sewer systems will be ready for implementation by 84

The Amarantic Dominion

Dark Resurrection (t4), ready for 85

Dark Maw goes nowhere

Ishikawan Goyimunate

The Hoor’s actions this year do not go unnoticed. The Friend of the People is openly criticized for being anti-republican, or royalist propaganda, slews of senators and military men openly defend conscription, citing it as the sole way for the Republic to deal with the well trained and professional armies of their enemies. Several of the “authors” of these articles are even imprisoned or executed by Republican authorities. Still, Eyowith cannot help but read Aiko’s works, due to the sheer amount of them drowning out the competition.

The keep is established

[THIS IS FOR SAMO TOO] Throughout the year, the besiegers, more specifically the Choranic mages pummel the island’s castle relentlessly. Though nova bolts are not exactly ideal for cracking such walls, several portions have collapsed partially, leaving imposing mounds of half-rubble, still protected by the terrible cliffs.

The alchemists agree that making wood heavily resistant to fire would definitely be possible, totally immune to fire is a different question. They busy bees get right to work, and say that they will have a usable concoction in 3 years time, given they continue to receive the same levels of funding every year.

PRINCIPALITY OF ANAXES

HCUywihbFgLz53eqjEjwvMv7JDAFJbWBxVQ7MgarV3nRy2GGAvTj0pDDMq3olX98cTa2nwMwMtZiULMq4H2UxQ3eHyWIK3IChKp1Y3ZJdF2k5zOtYhW2NtYEGXifoxfc1M5oD_rX

An early morning at the Seaside District of Lyffneveld - the fishermen have yet to wake and make their living for the day.

“Sire, I bring troubling news.” A Seaman barged through the door, both unannounced and perhaps unwelcome. He now stood awkwardly halfway between the door and the table at which the Prince and his family were currently dining. The Prince raised a brow, and his household guards who otherwise lurked quietly in the shadows watching, stepped forward to intercept the intruder. He was a raggedy man, worth his weight in the sea’s salt by the looks. His beard reached obscene lengths according to Anaxese courtly etiquette and he looked and smelled as if he hadn’t bathed in weeks. The Prince on the other hand was dignified, wrapped in fine mainland furs and feathers - curiously, he arched a brow - he would hear the man.

The guards relaxed their grips upon their halberds, though their steely gazes burned holes into the man’s soul. He was shaken by this but proceeded nonetheless. He took a few faces forward only to take a tumble, face first into the cobblestone floor. “Apologies.” the man said awkwardly, “I’d just come right off our ship. I must say, it’s odd not having the very floor on which you stand sway and rock with every thrashing wave.”

“Be a gent and get on with it, would you?” Prince Robert bid, slightly impatient. He shot a glance to his guests and family, across the table laden with exquisite meat cuts and freshly picked fruits and vegetables. They appeared indifferent for the time, simply waiting to hear the man’s words.

“Y-yes, Of course.. Your Serene Highness.” he stumbled, not in footwork, but in speech. “My crew and I were out whaling this morning - an um, we stumbled upon this dinghy in the water - practically sinking. They weren’t ours.” he explains, “They were Aldemaric. They appeared starving and battered, of course, we hoisted them aboard and took them home with us. They told us they were fleeing the onslaught that was Kemet’s blood ravenous army  and that their pharaohs had claimed yet another fortress-city of theirs near effortlessly…”

The Grand Prince’ Roberts son,  Prince Harold, set down his utensils, and half-rose from his seat. “Father if what the man says it’s true, when we are obliged to lend our aid.”

“It is.” replied the ruler. “I’ve been keeping tabs on this situation for some time. I had only hoped it would not come to this - I was wrong. These Kemetese are commanded by their foul gods to conquest and slaughter, raising unholy monuments upon the bones and rubble they’ve claimed. Truthfully, if the great Aldemaric League cannot fend them off, it is already too late.”

“As long as we draw breath we cannot stand idle. For what does that say about our character, father?” he retorted.

Beside him, Lady Marley Burr rose, her hand wrapped around his, “I must agree with your son, Your Serene Highness. Think of the countless families torn apart. We have the makings of a great navy. We can help..”

“Enough.” the Grand Prince rose too, his voice resonating throughout the halls. “You are all but children with the foresight of a goldfish. You think I’ve not already considered all these implications?” he scoffed, eyeing each and every man and woman who sat at the table. “Now boy, if you want to make yourself useful. I do indeed have a plan.” he reached into his breast pocket and brandished a small scroll which. He brushed aside the various entrees and unfurled it for all to see, weighing down the ends with various goblets and plates. “Let’s see if what you’ve learned at the Naval Academy will have practical applications.” he stared at his son coldly, reaching for a dagger which he drove into the scroll - a map of Chtor - between Kemet and Avon.  “Here. Our course of action. While they feast their eyes upon their next conquest - with our fleet, we’ll ferry all those we can away from the voracious maw that is Kemet and raid their shores..”

The Grand Prince wrenched his knife out from the table. With what seemed thunderous bounding steps he navigated the table’s edge until he came upon his son. Grim and without a word, he took his hand and placed the dagger within his palm. “I charge you with both the honor and burden, boy.”
