DESCRIPTION

These creatures tower over their original wolf cousins by nearly three times their common size, resembling the size of a quarter horse. Fully grown they stand at four feet to their shoulder, and loom over seven feet when standing on their back legs. Their hulking stature makes it optimal for their orcish companions to ride them with ease, charging down their enemies with immeasurable ferocity. Their colors can range from pure snow white, earthy browns, to midnight black and others in between. They are as beautiful as they are deadly, their claws easily able to slash flesh into fine ribbons. Their mouth is full of dagger like teeth, that is known to be able to cut through flesh like butter. They are known in the wild to hunt in packs and could easily take down a creature far larger than themselves in few numbers. Lur wolves also server in many roles of hunting. As they represent the clan of hunting orcs, there main service is to the feeding and care of the clan. Working with their masters, lur wolves have many qualities to thrive in a hunt. Tracking down beast and prey comes at ease for them with their many features.

ORIGIN AND BEHAVIOR

These enviable creatures seem to be the perfect beast for Uruk kind, yet there is only one orcish clan with the innate talent to tame these majestic beasts. The name ‘Lur Wolf’, derives from the Lur Clan as they are the only known clan able to harness the might of these wolves as their animal companions. Though other clans may try to tame these beasts for themselves, they will be rejected and likely turned into a tasty snack. One is not the master of a wolf, nor is the wolf master of the orc. It is a bond forged from pure loyalty that cannot be changed, hindered, or passed on. Lur wolves also spend time advancing along the territory lands in which their master thrives in. Things like, foraging for food, watching for prey, or even exploring the nearby shadows and bushes come at ease with the command of the master. Lur wolves show a very strong bond to their masters and will do as they say for the most part. However the master of a lur wolf can not direct the wolf towards a variety of things. For example they will not attack children and beings of young nature, they will not attack the innocent as a sign of dignity, and will not participate in the slaughter of other lur wolves or orcs unless either have been removed from the clan.

OBTAINING A LUR WOLF

Trial of Blood

When a Lur child is born it is put through a test of pure blood. This is an important step in lur tradition that not only tests the lur descent in a kub, but also their potential. The kub is put into a pit of Lur wolves, where then the wolves will judge the blood of the kub before them. If the wolves reject the kub, the kub would be quickly eaten by the wolves. A standard of orcish ways where only the strongest live. If the wolves accept the kub then the child would be raised in the clan to become the next Lur member.

Trial of Age

When a Lur kub is around the age of 9 they are brought before the elders for their trial of age. The elders would bring the kub to the Lur wolf den to pick out their wolf. This will begin the bond between the orc and the wolf that will last for life. During this trial, the orc and the wolf would be sent out into the wild and are forced to survive while the rest of the pack hunts them. The wolves will not being held back and if the orc and wolf is caught they could be killed if their bond isn’t strong enough to get them out of the situation. This is a true test of the hunt in which is a strong tradition of the lurs. A kub can spend days training for this on their own, however the hunt is the only true test within the clan.

DEATH

The bond between the Lur Wolf and the Lur member is for life, and only in this joined life can either thrive. This lifelong unity can only be broken by the death of one or both orc and wolf. Commonly the orc and wolf will die alongside each other in combat. If an orc dies and their wolf remains alive, it is the responsibility of the Lur clan to kill that wolf and allow their spirit to join the orc in the spirit realm. If an orc’s wolf dies before they, that orc will suddenly be completely overcome by grief and eventually die of this overwhelming despair. One cannot live without the other, and though death may part them from the mortal world, their bond continues into the afterlife and for all of eternity.

REDLINES

Spoiler

  • They are dependent creatures, they rely on their orcish companion for their next commands.

  • They are only tamable by the orc clan of Lur

  • Lur wolves are bound to all lore and server rules as well as lore written in this post.

  • Lur wolves cannot surpass the size of an American Quarter Horse.

  • Lur wolves cannot be tamed or rode by ologs.

  • When a lur wolf dies, the lore of death to the orc must follow.

  • An orc can only have 1 lur wolf per lifetime.

  • Lur wolves can have a maximum of 8 cubs in their lifetime.

  • The wolves will not attack the young, innocent beings, or other clan related wolves and orcs.

  • Lur wolves cannot be used to “track” someone in an area to allow you to find them behind a locked door, in a basement etc.

  • Lur wolves are primarily meant to be used in events, casual roleplay, and for self defense. They are not to be used as tools for mass slaughter in crp.

  • Shall mechanical pvp happen with a lur wolf present, they can simply server as a minecraft horse with no special benefits.

  • It takes three emotes for each command for a lur wolf. One emote specifically to tell the lur wolf what to do,  one emote for the lur wolf to react and position for the coming action, and one carrying out the action. Two emotes is acceptable if it is not for an advantage in roleplay.

  • If an orc dies in roleplay and the wolf is near, the wolf will stop any current fighting and rush to their master at once. The tradition of death between the two only affects from Orc > Wolf if the player of the orc chooses to pk. However if the lur wolf is killed rp’ly, then the damage cannot be undone.

  • In CRP, lur wolves serve as a defensive animal. Only following commands if asked by the master in which to protect them.\

  • Anything else that the story team feels necessary to include.

Purpose
For the past couple years the Lur clan has been thriving with a strong and committed community of orc players wishing to further their roleplay by adapting to common orc related things like hunting and beast taming. This animal has been the center and thriving point of our clan as everything that we have done has revolved around these beast. By submitting this lore it is our hopes to ensure that our clan can continue on with our culture and use of the lur wolf. Our main goal with this rewrite, is to aim these animals more towards the use of hunting specifically. It has been commonly misinformed that these animals are created to give us an upper-hand in combat roleplay situations. It is our goal as writers and as individuals of our clan to produce a clearer and better vision for the use of creatures in roleplay.

This probably needs more explaining. A vow to a clan, which a wolf wouldn’t understand, shouldn’t lend the ability to tame the creature more than any other person would be able to do.

Assuming this lore piece isn’t about the training of the creature but rather it’s about their inherent nature, how did this sense of morality come to be a natural part of the feral creature?

What is so special about Lur blood that distinguishes them to the beasts? Does this mean that members of the clan who aren’t directly from Lur’s lineage could never be paired with a Lur Wolf? This would probably alienate all members of the clan with non-green but natural colored orc skin.

If this is not the case then remove their combat ability in defensive situations also.

In orginal lur lore. the Lur clan all come from Lur himself. Yes we dont always do dirtect parents, some would be a grandfather who was from the lur clan, but the person will still have the blood of lur running in his veins. The wolves are able to sense those who have Lur blood and thus the bond is made from that.

There is many stories of real wolves who have taken in human children and raised them as their own.

Heres two for some quick reading. Falum’Lur was raised by a Lur wolf, so these wolves have a keener sense of those who are in need of “proper raising” in their mind. why kill something so young when they can raise them in the way of the wolf.

Lur was the one who first tamed the Lur wolves and a bond was made to last generations. also may i point back to my first response.

When the lore games first happened i was worried about the rp reason why my character’s soul bonded creature would just sit there and do nothing if i didnt summit the lore. The reason is not for better combat abilities, but for a more realistic reaction that the wolf would give if put in dangerous situations why accompanied with their orc.

Just because Lur was the first to tame them, and some of the clan members have relations to him, doesn’t explain why the creatures become inherently exclusive to the clan. What is special about the bloodline? Lur’s bloodline doesn’t have innately magical abilities tied to the wolves, unless you’ve neglected to explain them. Though furthermore, if the matter is that anybody with Lur’s blood can tame a wolf then it’s possible that orcs who are outside of Lur clan may come from Lur’s lineage and be able to tame a wolf.

There are of course far more documented cases of wolves attacking children, let’s not be ridiculous here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wolf_attacks

You can look through that and you’ll find wolves attacking people of all ages over the last few centuries. So again, you should really explain why Lur Wolves seem to have a superior and innate ethical code to that of other beasts. It’s one thing to train an animal to only attack certain things, it’s entirely another thing to ingrain it into the lore of the creature.

That’s fine but you really should explain why a bond with a non-magical creature lasts multiple generations in the way that you’ve described. It’s cool to write up that Lur Wolves won’t attack distant descendants of Lur because of their blood or whatever, but you need to justify that with some kind of explanation. Wolves can’t really smell genetics either, so there are many different routes that you could write up to achieve what you want still but as of this current submission I don’t think it’s sufficiently explained.

Will this not lead to all Lurs /always/ walking with their wolves and if they are attacked the Lur persona would essentially be emoting for the wolf and their orc? In the redlines I think you explain that it takes 3 emotes to command the wolf, though it seems like if a Lur was just attacked they wouldn’t exactly need to give specific commands to fight off an assailant. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d love some more clarification.

+1 from me
It’s a Lur Wolf and its existed for maps. While the lore looks good and has no qualms from me i think there are some things that should be said. It’s absurd to think that Lur Wolves are anything but Lur exclusive while other clans have their own respective animals, and the reasoning for such a strong mental bond between Wolf and Hunter is because Kurak, the Wolf of Lur, was an Ancestor who bound the Spirit of the Lur Wolves to the Spirit of Lur and his lessers with a Shaman ritual.

@_Jandy_ lur wolves were roleplayed for centuries and can smell genetics because of hypernose and because its fantasy and the setting is different of irl and thus they can be only raised by lur orcs due to fantasy why does this even needs a rewrite lur wolves are cool big wolves lur orcs can ride because lur wolves have some symbolism to Lur orcs and is used as a means to enhance roleplay with our min-maxed wolves and im completely ok for having them limited only for roleplay situations

plus i like lur wolves thats why they should be added kept +1

then it should be explained as such in the lore, simple as that.
