What makes you say server has passed medieval times? Irl and LotC are two different things. It’s like having machine guns during the siege of Helm’s Deep

I am... conflicted on the notion of guns in LOTC. I feel that it would be best to have a publicly viewable concrete proposal first, given there is extremely varied discussions for all sorts of things- as many of the arguements in this thread hinge upon certain expectations of what said guns would be like. I have a level of apprehension with guns (though I have that apprehension with most new combat related magics, critters, feats, etc.) but LOTC has implemented far more extreme things. If accepted guns are different in capabilities from IRL ones, I hope that such differences are something that are pasted on half everything LOTC-gun related, as to keep from wide-spread misunderstanding.

No, Lotc is a medieval/fantasy themed server. This doesnt belong here, but in one of those gta mc servers. First firearms and then what? Nuclear rockets and airplanes that intercept dragons?

Truly, honest. How any anything of this not be said about literally anything?

As for your promoting school shootings oooh yes! People will get SO FAR! With such after shooting their musket and they fumbling around for like 20 seconds to get a new round loaded.

With that logic we should ban swords aswell because some Swedish **** dressed up in a darth vader costume and started cutting down students with a sword some years back. If the guns get misused then there is a simple and easy command that goes /modreq, the command that you are already supposed to used when you see dumbo brain fucked  powergaming

If anything the idiot will have a better chance of being caught as they make a HUGE ******* boom along with a HUGE cloud of smoke and leaves the shooter standing still and open for attack for like a ******* eternity.

Taking a look at literally any other part of LOTC that isn't the pvp scene reveals the server to already be far beyond the invention of guns. The medicine is a fuckywucky combination of all kinds of periods, the politics we use are some ADVACED as **** ****, the fashion of almost everybody but like.... viking wife players are far too modern for not having gotten past gun times, the military systems inforced by the guard forces are already in gun specialised times.

ADDITIONALLY! mental disorders often makes people think **** through and ponder over things for long periods of time, so would you **** RIGHT OFF with that bullshit?

What stops me (and how is it different) from going: john draws sword. John slices Jack. Jack dies, Jack is in two parts now?

(and this whole thing was basically fueled by me being pissed over shitting on mental disorders.)

I said modern disorders, but yeah go ahead and be aggressive when I tried to express a calm opinion.

I believe no, it will be an vibe-killer for the current style of the server. The Medival fantasy-ish theme of the server will be touched while it is the main part why the RP on the server is so good quality and fun. Also if this will be allowed theren where does it stops? Going to space? The techlock is there for an reason, to prevent that the Medival setting will dissapear.

That is silly. We do not want guns and helicopters. We want early primitive firearms. Our playerbase, which is roughly half the server, as evidenced by the poll so far, enjoys this style and thread of roleplay. We are exploring a new space. Human roleplay on lotc has been, for a decade, little more than castles and swords and kings. We are entering novel territory. There is a Senate, and a gigantic metropolitan capital, and a civil government, and elections, and all of these developments. It is not modern. It is actually quite an old genre or theme. This is comparable to 13th, 14th, 15th century European life.

Alright, time to kick this off. For starters, matchlocks were not widespread in Europe until the 15th or 16th centuries, this is confirmed by a simple google search and look at a few scholarly articles. Secondly, there are so so many inventions that come before guns. For example, the discovery of something similar to gunpowder in our fantasy world, cannons (which existed for centuries before guns did but which are something we do not have yet and are essential in understanding the physics behind guns), fireworks, rockets are all to name a few. If this is something that should be done and I believe that LoTC should have guns at some point, it should be explainable IRP. This isn’t something where a lore submission should be made and guns just pop out of the dirt a few months from now. If you’re claiming Oren wants guns as badly as they do, why not have them create an R&D team to actually make a solid storyline out of where guns came from. Guns are something that were worked on for literally hundreds of years to perfect. Hell, it took humanity four centuries to go from a matchlock musket to a flintlock one. There should be research done about it imo where people test prototypes and all sorts of other **** and matchlocks definitely aren’t the place to start. Rhodesiaa stated earlier that we could start off with extremely rudimentary handcannon type weapons and I think that’s a fantastic idea. Start somewhere simple and gradually increase the technology over time. This is my two cents on it and you’re free to take it as you will but I firmly believe matchlocks are not where we should be starting. If anything guns should come a few centuries after cannons which Humans are yet to even have.

A proper response from me this time with actual opinions on it :

I think guns could be added, I wouldn’t protest.
But I also think literary anything to spice up RP would probably be a good option at this point.
I joined towards the middle of Axios, during the eighteen years war, about two months before Johannesburg went boom.

And I do remember it was rather fun, having cannons and magical weapons, some cool magics that were around, materials like carbarum and bluesteel, dragonscales were a material used in armour that came up in RP a few times, necromancy was still a thing so you had to fight the occasional undead, gods were still allowed to interact with their followers, We still had soap.

What I’m trying to say is – I think the server should let itself go back towards those times where there were genuinely interesting stuff, because right now the arguments of “It’s a medieval fantasy server” doesn’t really fly, because we’re not really medieval, and we have lost a good amount of the fantasy aspects.

So yeah, go ahead and add muskets. But if guns get added, also add some more fantasy aspects, add some interesting things, make LOTC an actually interesting server you can do cool stuff on again instead of just being one of the most vanilla, boring DND wannabe settings ever. Guns could spice it up some if more aspects were /also/ added alongside them.

This page as 25 responses. Safe to say. no guns. Player base divided on this one.

Gotta be a compromise in place to satisfy both groups. Seems like the players against are a lot more reactionary than the players for. Could see there being Cannons and pistols but not muskets.

Gunpowder weaponry HAS existed on this server for well over 400 years. From its implementation as cannons in Asulon to even being written into orcish lore during the time of the Four Brothers. The existence of gunpowder and its associated weaponry CANNOT be denied from a lore perspective. Even currently on the server, the Empire invests heavily into rediscovering this forcibly “lost” technology via various event lines and RP experimentation. The issue is that the implementation of the techlock bars our usage of these technologies to further develop them.

”Event lines”. Sorry I’ve been here for the last year and I’ve not seen any event line where they try to rediscover these lost technologies.

An event does not need to occur under one’s own purview to be considered legitimate. Such a fallacy is akin to ignoring a mage’s ability because you did not see them train it, or that you cannot use a sword in PVP because you never saw how they were instructed with it.

For reference, an event this past Saturday that boasted nearly a 100 participants pertained to this technology, being volatile materials being used as explosives contained within a mine.
