A WARNING TO ALL: THE BLIGHTED MAGI

Recommended Posts

[!] Sheets of parchment with serviceable handwriting are pinned up all over the realm: imperial walls, taverns, homeless bums, wells; all bearing a dark charcoal title. Oddly enough, none of them are signed with any sort of official name.

THE BLIGHTED MAGI

Presumably as a byproduct of the fairly-recent tears in the fabric of the material realm, the eldritch monstrosities that lie behind the veil that separates our realm and the void have extended their influence by using descendants as a vessel for their foul intentions, most of these individuals willing to accept these terrors opportunity due to the potential power it holds. As a result, the descendant’s mortal coil is twisted and tainted, gaining an intangible aura that passively drains life around them. Oddly enough, they’re incapable of feeling fatigue and oftentimes choose not to sleep, presumably as a boon of the horrid symbiosis they’ve made with the atrocities of the void. Additionally, these Magi are capable of disrupting the connection of opposing spell-slingers and consuming the energy that lies in objects imbued with the Arcane, such as enchantments.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A BLIGHTED MAGE

Blighted Magi’s minds and bodies have been tainted by the influence of metaphysical voidal abominations, appearing to hear and see sounds and sights that others do not. Usually beginning on their chests, a black mark that will slowly consume the skin that the descendant once possessed, spreading up their form overtime and covering their hands and occasionally parts of their face. These corrupted magi have also gained the ability to speak a language native to the Horrors of the void: Moonspeech, sounds of distorted chirps and rings to those who hear it. However, perhaps the biggest giveaway is that Blighted Magi naturally drain life-force of animals and descendants alike, although not noticeable until after being around the afflicted mage for an extended period of time. Those who spend time around Blighted Magi will feel a minor feeling of exhaustion, eating away at their stamina as the hours pass by. Being around them for several hours, such as sleeping beside them, can result in death.

THE CLEANSING OF THE BLIGHTED MAGI

Although the Blighted Magi most often give in to this offer for power, there is a minority of the afflicted that wish to be purged of their tainted connection to the void. This can be done through the aid of an experienced Transfigurationist; by sending an abjuration through the Blighted Mage, the corruption will flake away over the course of around a minute. There may be Blighted Magi who might plead to be cleansed and the spell may fail—if this happens, it’s a dead giveaway that the corrupted mage is hesitant of giving away their power and has been deceiving those that they plea to. It is strongly recommended that if one comes across a Blighted Mage, they refer them to a skilled Transfigurationist immediately if they are willing to be cleansed. If not, the best course of action is to kill them on sight: these descendants are the eyes that the monsters behind the veil see through, and the more they learn, the larger the threat they pose to us.

KNOWN BLIGHTED MAGI

Blair Fester - One of the three Sutican Leaders, high elf, white hair, purple eyes, female, seen around Sutica.

Rolando - Halfing, brown hair, red eyes, seen wearing a suit and tie with no shoes, male, seen around Sutica.

[!] A humanly man scanned the note, before exclaiming to his men:The Suticans are harboring these iblees-tainted apostates, and so is the trade prince! A purge is necessary to ensure these wicked beasts are no more!he concluded, folding the paper into a mundane square, and pocketing it for later uses.

"Personally, I think we should exterminate all voidal mages. Just to be safe." A particularly dark 'ker weighs in with the opinion that no-one asked for yet everyone will receive regardless.

“Pah! Such a blasphemous taint! Be on your guard mali’thill, lest this detestable plague spreads.” A high elf would comment to a nearby Sillumir, before folding the missive and heading inside the Bastion.

A tainted wee-folk keeps an eye upon the posted document. His skin tainted a dark black corrupted color. Occasionally- his unmoving and expressionless facade would twitch with a hint of curiousity.

"If the descendants of Arcas already have this eye upon us, it appears that moving forward will do nothing more but amplify our presence..."

The halfling then simply closes his one good eye.. resting criss crossed on a burnt up section of earth just outside the Trade City. Waiting..

Norawen would glance the paper over, giving the document an affirmative nod before flipping her hood up to cover her head. ”May this inner purge of my city begin.” She muttered, then stepped away.

A peculiar pale faced mali’thill frowned a grim expression as his gaze dimly glowed a verdant green hue. ”Hrm. Fools they are, giving into the corruption.”  he’d sigh deeply, placing the notice on the counter of his lab.

Upon hearing the news an isolated Dwed would give no more than a scoff of disapproval.

”They were unwise to wrong us... Now they shall taste the consequences. How- ironic.

A lanky high elf’s thin fingers would scrunch up the pages of the parchment. His face which was was scrunched up in disgust would mutter to himself “Of course it is Sutica. .
as he throws the now ball shaped paper into the fireplace he was seated by.

"All voidal mages are filth upon our sacred land – let them rot, let them wither away.an Arvellon snarls amidst conversation.

Within the confines of his royal residence, the Trade Monarch of Sutica, an avid collector of fan-fiction and other fantastical missives, perused the missive alongside his hearty traditional Waldenian breakfast. “It certainly is detailed and well-written,” he mused aloud to nobody in particular. “Were we to assume this anonymous and unsourced memo was entirely factual – as the denizens of the Realm often do without any sort of common sense questioning – then I wonder how the entire Sutican Council has not dropped dead by Blair’s side already.”

Corwin sighed, seeing little difference between the outlandish claims and ‘regular’ voidal corruption, for better or for worse. He summoned a goblin laborer, instructing him briefly. “Ensure that anyone willing and knowledgeable on the matter – if such a person even exists upon Arcas – makes their case before myself and the Watch. We never have acted upon source-less fairy-tales – or, perhaps, slander by criminals who had made an attempt on Blair’s life earlier – but the State and my family had always made examples of tainted beings.” He then turned to thoughts of a lucrative money-making scheme which, no doubt, would be popular amongst the unquestioning readers of anonymous reports; one involving a supposed Aeldinic prince and a Helenan bank account containing millions of minas...

Sarrion would look extremely confused at the missive reading it from his office. “Who in Aos wrote this. I understand these tainted mages are a threat but now this is just going to cause non tainted mages problems because of this wording and suddenness.” He would sigh, taking off his glasses and rubbing his forehead.
