Full Name: Tanith Vursur

Aliases/Nicknames: Tanith of the Westerlands, Tanith Toov, Tanith Olora, Tanith Gyffard, “Tan”
Gender: Female
Birthday: Born in year 1273 of the First Age (estimated as she does not know her exact birthday.)
Race: Dark Elf (Mali'ker)
Nationality: Orenian
Profession: Chief of Research & Museum Curator with the Northern Geographical Society (NGS); Orenian Circuit Court Judge

Spouse(s): Icroth Vursur (living, married 1781); Reeve Gyffard (deceased, married 1612); Theo Olora (deceased, married 1494); Baldir Toov (deceased, married 1374)

Children: James Chapel (adopted, living); Viyr Toov (adopted, deceased); Geralt Toov (biological, deceased)

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 141 lbs
Build: Like most elves, Tanith is tall and slender. She has long legs with a modest bust and wide, matronly hips.

Hair: Pale pink
Style: Her hair is extremely long, so she ties it back to keep it manageable and out of her way. Tanith very, very rarely cuts her hair and has often let it grow for decades at a time. As a result, it's down to her ankles when not tied back. Her hair texture is very coarse, wavy, and difficult to brush or style without significant effort. You will almost never see Tanith with her hair down.
Eyes: Hot Pink
Skintone: Light grey

Clothing:
As the NGS Chief of Scholarly Research and its Flagship Museum, Tanith endeavors to dress in a pleasant and professional manner. Her clothing aesthetic samples attire from different eras, so she can sometimes be seen in either modern wear or archaic dress from hundreds of years ago. She can often be seen with ribbons or flowers in her hair. Her favorite colors are red, pink, gold, and green, so that's what she wears most often.

Identifying Features:
Tanith's strongest and most identifying feature is likely her extremely long pale pink hair, which is somewhat unusual coloring for a dark elf. Tanith's ears have also been cropped with their pointed tips removed. There's some pale scarring on her ears where they've been cut. The ear cropping has rendered her ears mismatched with one slightly longer than the other and they have a square-ish edge where the tip was chopped off.

Overall Demeanor

Tanith strives to be friendly, engaging, and polite. She is largely cheerful, although occasionally prone to bouts of melancholy. It is hard not to notice a certain lingering, existential sadness around her - as is common with many elves who reach her age. Her comportment tends to be somewhat reserved. She walks sedately from place to place with her hands folded, not often running or jumping. When working or focusing on something she enjoys, she may sing or hum quietly to herself -- although she will get embarrassed if you point out. Her clothes and hair are always very tidy and well kept.

Strengths

Hard-Working
Tanith has a strong work ethic. She does what she's told and she does it to the best of her ability. This does lead to a tendency to overwork herself to the point of exhaustion and burnout. Someone needs to remind her that it's healthy to take breaks!

Lawful Good
Tanith has an ironclad sense of right and wrong. She will never do anything that violates her personal code of ethics. If she witnesses injustice, she feels compelled to call it out and make sure that it’s addressed as soon as possible. Tanith’s unshakeable sense of morality has landed in her hot water a time or two when she’s induced to call out people with a lot more power and influence than her.

Very Old
Tanith has lived for a very long time. She has seen a lot of things, done a lot of things, and remembers a lot of things. If asked nicely, she'll be happy to share her memories with others.

Expert Magician
Tanith has mastery over the art of water/ice evocation -- as well as a working, comprehensive knowledge of voidal translocation, transfiguration, and housemagery. She's an adept voidal mage with over 300 years of practice under her belt.

Cooking & Gardening
Tanith loves to cook! She is a self taught chef, but she has had many, many, many years of practice. Tanith is happiest in the kitchen when she's cooking a nice dinner. She also enjoys growing her own fruits and vegetables to use in her recipes.

Weaknesses

Melancholic
A long life involves a great deal of loss. Tanith has lived the majority of her life among humans and, as a result, she has watched a great many friends age and die before her eyes. She also lived through some difficult times in Oren's history for elves, which left some scars upon her heart that time has not yet healed.

Nearsighted
Tanith has been nearsighted all her life and cannot make out objects at a distance (unless they're very large) without her glasses. If she loses her glasses, she’s nearly blind.

Weak / Out of Shape
Tanith is not physically strong and it would be very easy to overwhelm her in a fight. Her use of voidal magic has left her physically weak and fragile. Strenuous physical activity like hiking or combat tires her out quickly. Extensive magic casting also tires her quickly, which is why she only uses it for emergencies.

Emotional
Dark elves are known to be an emotional, passionate people and Tanith is no exception. While she is calm and polite a majority of the time, she is prone to snapping and lashing out if under stress. She also holds grudges – often for centuries at a time. If someone mistreats Tanith, she will remember it forever. Her history has left her with a lot of complicated grief and trauma that she is still, slowly, learning to process.

Spoiler

-Tanith was born 1273 to unknown parents in the land of Aegis. She was born in the elven princedom of Malinor under the rule of Prince Native.

-Aegis was a land plagued by terrifying bandit gangs. Tanith’s parents got into debt with the local bandit lords near Malinor and could not pay. Tanith was taken from her family as collateral with the promise she would be returned once payment was made.

-Much to her parents’ devastation, the gang sold Tanith into indentured servitude in Al’khazar. Tanith would never see her family again.

-Tanith was bought by a minor Al’khazar noble lord of little historical note. She bounced between employers for a period of several years before finally winning her freedom in 1370.

-Tanith joined the Order of the White Rose very shortly after their founding in 1371, when she was hired by Velwyn Ashford as a cook, gardener, and housekeeper.

-While working for the Rose, Tanith began a courtship with Captain Baldir Toov. She married him in 1374. They remained married up until the White Rose’s Exodus to Aeldin in 1420 (total 46 years).

- In the confusion and chaos of preparing for the Great Exodus, Tanith found herself accidentally left behind by the White Rose. She remained in Anthos without her husband, friends, and family – never hearing from any of them ever again.

-36 years later in 1456, Peter Chivay returned to claim his title as Emperor. Tanith heard of her friends’ return, but chose to remain in obscurity after learning that her husband Baldir Toov had died abroad in Aeldin.

-Tanith lived in Petrus during the reigns of Tobias I, Alexander I, and King Andrik Vydra following the Vibian Coup. She worked the fields and lived in a modest apartment in the city. In 1494, he remarried a wood elf by the name of Theo Olora, although it was a marriage born of convenience. Theo was homosexual and feared reprisal from the humans for acting on his feelings, so he married Tanith as a beard. Tanith was aware of Theo’s predilections and consented to a chaste marriage. The two were close friends but not lovers and they ran a moderately successful produce business together. These years were quiet and uneventful up until the assassination of Andrik Vydra at the hands of the High Elves. The kingdom saw a massive spike in anti-elf sentiment and Theo was beaten to death by a mob seeking vengeance for the fallen king. Their marriage lasted 32 years, but was never consummated and produced no children.

-Following Theo’s death, Tanith left Petrus and moved to the countryside of Karovia where she continued to quietly work in the fields up until the cataclysm that lead humanity to Vailor.

-After settling in the Duchy of Vanholm in Vailor, Tanith became a refugee during the Duke’s War. She finally elected to leave society at the conclusion of the war in 1521 once travel became safe again.

-Broken hearted and tired of living in fear, Tanith became a hermit from the years 1521 up until 1570. She settled in the far distant north somewhat near Krinfrid after using the remaining money leftover from the produce business to buy a small homestead. In 1570, she briefly left isolation to make the journey to Axios.

-Upon arriving in Axios, Tanith continued to avoid society and settled in a remote part of Hanseti-Ruska. In 1601, war between Haense and Courland threatened Tanith’s isolation. In an effort to scare military forces away from her lands, she posed as a Frost Witch using her ice evocation magic. Unfortunately, this drew some unwanted attention from local bands of monster hunters, including one group led by a hunter named Reeve Gyffard.

-Gyffard decided to hunt down the “witch” in the year 1604. Upon discovering that Tanith was not, in fact, a witch, Reeve took a romantic interest in her. He was among the few people to regularly visit Tanith in her isolation and he often brought gifts. They began a tumultuous and toxic but passionate on-and-off love affair that resulted in a brief marriage. They were together some thirteen years – married for eight -- before Reeve died in battle in 1617. Between 1612 and 1617, Tanith lived with his company of monster hunters – known as the Black Fox Company - at their base of operations in a small village in the kingdom of Haense.

-Following Reeve’s death, Tanith returned to live in isolation on her land until the 1644 cataclysm forced her to travel to Atlas. Once safely in Atlas, Tanith returned to living in isolation and avoiding contact with other people.

-In 1705, she would once again be forced to break her isolation and move to Arcas, but Tanith would remain stubbornly a hermit up until 65 years later.

-In 1765, Tanith received a letter from Edward Napier of the Oren Ministry of Civil Affairs. Mr. Napier was interested in conducting an interview with Tanith about her time in the White Rose. It was the first communication she’d had from the outside world in a long time. Mr. Napier’s correspondence indicated that Oren had changed a great deal over the 200+ years Tanith had lived in isolation. Tanith tentatively made plans to visit the capitol of Helena.

-After visiting the cities of Helena and Owynsburg, Tanith made the decision to move back to society in 1767. She sought work in Helena and took up a job bar tending at the Dragon’s Rest, owned by the Carrington family.

-In 1772, she was invited to join the Northern Geographic Society as a curator for the Helena branch of their history museum. Tanith happily took the job, excited to share her knowledge of the early Empire with a new generation.

-The Helena branch of the History museum opened in 1777 after 5 years of work with Tanith as its curator and lead historian. She publishes her first historical text – an overview of early Imperial history.

-Tanith gets engaged to her beau, a Xannic Paladin by the name of Icroth Vursur, in 1778.

-Tanith and her magical abilities proved critical during the NGS’s expedition into the Nether between the years of 1778 and 1780 – gathering important information and retrieving samples from the wicked realm. She co-authored a study on the Nether with her good friend Celestine Herbert, which was very well received by the Orenian scientific community.

-Tanith married her fiancé, the paladin Icroth Vursur, on the 9th of the Amber Cold, 1781. They wed under Oren’s Civil Union act, becoming the first ever non-human couple united by civil union in the history of the Empire.

-Between the years of 1780 and 1784, Tanith began collaborating with the Paladins of Xan to combat the growing Inferi threat. However, in 1784, Tanith witnesses the killing of an innocent man by the Paladins. Horrified by what she'd seen, she cuts ties with the Paladins and publishes an open letter calling for justice. Her letter is unfortunately met with a lukewarm response.

-In 1786, Tanith published her first full ethnography on the Wood Elves of Siramenor – though it faced some criticism for propagating inaccuracies and stereotypes.

-That same year, Tanith decides to begin taking on magic students – spreading the knowledge of Water Evocation around Arcas. She also begins the practice of Voidal Translocation, learning from acclaimed teacher Serenity Al'Abass (a.k.a The Violet Sorceress.)

-In 1788, Tanith accidentally learned information that she was not supposed to know – which lead to her vicious kidnapping and brutal assault by Orenian officials Padraig O’Rourke and Ostromir Carrion. The two men took her to a black site where they tortured her severely and forced her to drink a memory-altering potion. Fearing for her life and safety, Tanith and her husband Icroth fled Oren for the Kingdom of Haense.

-In 1789, Tanith published an open letter detailing her experiences with Ostromir and Padraig – creating enormous waves in the Orenian political sphere.

-Later that same year (1789), following an immensely successful publication, Tanith is nominated by Celestine Herbert and Otto Wittenbach to become the NGS Chief of Research. She’s also promoted to Head Curator of the NGS Flagship Museum in New Reza.

-The Inferi attack the city of New Reza in 1795, driving citizens out of their homes and into the countryside. Tanith flees the city alongside her friends Chirr Sintel and Zodd Calliban. She's separated from her husband Icroth in the confusion.

-Later in the year 1795, the NGS mounted a fourth expedition into the Nether with their goal being to reach a Nether fortress and plant their flag in the red realm. Tanith - along with her friends Celestine, Zodd, and Kallian - managed to delve deeper into the Nether than ever before. They located a safe air pocket where they hung an NGS flag and left behind a plaque to commemorate their successful expedition. Tanith's expertise in voidal translocation proved essential in navigating the treacherous and uneven landscape of the Nether.

-In 1797, Tanith and Icroth reunite safely in the Haensi capital of Karosgrad, where they begin sharing a home with their longtime friends Celestine Herbert and Otto Wittenbach. Tanith and Icroth also formally adopted a wood elf by the name of James Chapel (since Tanith was past age 500 and couldn't hope to conceive more children). He changed his name to James Vursur in honor of officially becoming their son.

-In Year 2 of the Second Age (1797 IST), Tanith took up the practice of Housemagery under the tutelage of Luisa Klaire Barclay.

-In 1802 IST (Year 6 of the Second Age), the Northern Geographical Society Museum at Karosgrad partially opened to great public fanfare and enthusiasm - thanks to the hard work for Tanith Vursur and Otto Wittenbach.

-One year later, in 1803, Tanith would receive a letter from the Siobhan O'Rourke, the daughter of Padraig O'Rourke. The letter contained Padraig's final confessions before he died, corroborating everything Tanith stated in her original open letter and additionally implicating several more government figures including Franz Nikolai Sarkozy and George Kovachev. Tanith ignited controversy once again by publishing the confession, which was met with widespread disbelief and accusations of fraud.

-Tanith retreated back to her private life following the controversy and focused on her work with the NGS. She also took on several magic students in an effort to promote knowledge and democratize access to magic. In 1812, the NGS fully opened its museum in Karosgrad to the delight of the public.

-Unfortunately, that same year, the NGS faced terrorism threats from an individual known as Matthieu. He burned down Wittenbach Warehouse - a business owned by NGS vice president Otto Wittenbach - and then threatened the museum with a similar fate.

-In 1813, after a shocking and unprecedented event in which the King of Haense Heinrik II burned his aunt alive for the practice of air evocation, the NGS Karosgrad museum opted to cease all operations in protest against the mistreatment of mages.

-While the museum operations were suspended, Tanith and her husband Icroth began traveling abroad to study the lands of Yong Ping in preparation for the reopening.

-Two years later, in 1815, the HRA captured the mafioso known as Matthieu and put him on trial. With the threat dispatched, the NGS was able to safely resume operations and open a new exhibit in their Flagship museum.

-In 1818, Tanith took up the practice of Transfiguration in hopes that she might aid her goddaughter, Eliza Wittenbach (the daughter of Celestine and Otto), in her business of creating Atronach limbs.

-After 30 long years without justice, Tanith finally received some closure on the Ostromir Carrion incident in the form of an acknowledgement from the Orenian Ministry of Justice. They admitted to error after raiding Castle Dobrov and finding Tanith's old glasses, which Ostromir had kept as a trophy after assaulting her. It wasn't the justice that Tanith had hoped for, but the apology cleared her name of wrongdoing. She was no longer a liar in the eyes of the Orenian law, which was an immense relief for her.

-The same year, the NGS announced the opening of their new Providence Branch under the curatorship of Mr. Beryl Carrington. It was the first time in 30 years - since Tanith's brutal assault - that the NGS had established operations in Oren. Mr. Carrington, a new curator, requested Tanith's assistance with setting up the new museum. So Tanith began to tentatively work in Providence once more.

-In 1822, Tanith published A Brief Summary of Modern Imperial History - a follow up to her early piece published in 1777. These writings featured prominently in the Imperial History Exhibit in the NGS Providence Museum.

-Three years later in 1825, Tanith published A Brief Summary of Johannian History - which completed her three volume summation of Orenian history.

-In 1827, the NGS Providence museum unveiled its Imperial History Collection, featuring the print materials that Tanith wrote for it.

-In 1828, Tanith's long life of service and loyalty to the Empire was recognized when Emperor John VIII nominated her to serve as a judge on the Circuit Court, pending confirmation from the House of Commons. With her appointment to the court, Tanith transferred from Karosgrad over to Providence and resigned from her job as Karosgrad Curator.
