Many wood elves look upon this period of history as an ideal era. It was during this time that the mali’ame were all unianimously devoted to the Aspects. Due to their nomadic lifestyle, the ancient wood elves of the various Seeds knew perfectly how to live in harmony with nature, something modern wood elves are still striving to do to this day. Traditionally, Seeds were mainly nomadic, roaming the mountains, deep forests and coasts of the ancient world. In the modern era, the Seeds are mostly sedentary and live principally in the sanctuary of Siramenor, or the Talus Grove among the druidic order. Many Seeds are the lineal successors or direct continuations of bloodlines, and hereditary continuation of the ancient Clans. To join a Seed is to partake in the great cultural revival in the eyes of many mali’ame. After centuries of assimilation, destruction, oppression and suffering through the lands of Asulon, Anthos, and Athera, the wood elves lost most of their culture and their religion. It was only after weathering a string of disasters, and the ascension of leaders such as Prince Tristin, Artimec Caerme’onn and later Arahaelth and Awaiti Aureon, among others, that the wood elves finally enjoyed peace long enough to rediscover their history. Lacking in any cultural identity, they clung to the stories of the old Seeds and their traditions and sought to bring them about into the modern era. Most of the Seeds that exist in the modern era are the successors to these old seeds. Almost all Cheiftains can trace their bloodlines back thousands of years and link them to the various old tribes which roamed the Aegisian forests. This is a point of pride for the brown-skinned Irrinite Seeds, who proudly emulate many of the old traditions and customs their nomadic ancient ancestors lived by. Tribal Markings Seeds often lived in isolation, and thus their traditions and lifestyles could diverge vastly. However, one ritual that remained universal among all seeds was the ilmyumier- the tribal tattoo. Each Seed bares its own tribal tattoo with its own unique colour, shape and location on the body. In ancient times they served to identify a mali’ame to whichever tribe he or she belonged to. In the modern era, the practice of tattooing all adult members of a Seed is a continued tradition. The ilmyumier is iconic to seed culture. Culture For many centuries the wood elven Seeds lived nomadic lives, often isolated from one another. As a result, each Seed has developed a unique culture and outlook to life, often based upon their individual history, or the geography of their ancestral lands. Some Seeds emphasized a seafaring or rivergoing life, while others were better adapted for colder, mountainous lands. Some seeds were more war-like, while others more passive. A Seed’s environment and culture also influenced which of the Wild Gods they worshipped. A Seed that lived by the edge of their spears may specifically make Morea, the war-like Prince of Wolves their patron. Meanwhile, a tribe that emphasizes peaceful artistry and expression may have devoted themselves to the Trickster Raven Kwakwani, or the Hummingbird Prince Kholibrii. Chieftains A Chieftain is the principal leader of any given Seed. Wood Elves are decidedly an egalitarian people, and historically both men and women have equal chance of ascending to the role. A chieftain must be wise and strong, and show both great conviction, temperance, and piety to the wild gods of the Forest. The Chieftain often has the final say in a Seed’s migrations, inter-kin affairs, and intra-tribe alliances. Chieftains are appointed differently in different Seeds. Most Wood Elves operate on a system of election, while a rare few Seed Chieftains are hereditary, passing down the position only to those of their bloodline. Major Seeds Seeds that are permanently based in either the Glade of Siramenor or the Talus Grove. Caerme’onn Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: A blood-red tattoo that abstractly resembles a stag’s antlers. Either to be inked along the arm, or under the eyes. Seed Chieftain: Abelas Caerme'onn (Lockages) and Kaelwyn Caerme'onn (Starfelt) Seed Culture: More than other seeds, Caerme’onn are fiercely pious. Nearly all members of this tribe are Druids, and it is an unspoken expectation that a Caerme’onn must devote their life to the Aspects, and to the preservation of mali’ame lore. As such, Caerme’onn is considered to be the “Priestly” Seed by many. Caerme’onn is a seed of warriors and Druids, tied deeply with the Green Priesthood and Wood Elven lands. Spiritual enlightenment, an undying devotion to the Wild Faith, and a mandate to guide and teach mali’ame kind are the core identities of Caerme’onn. Seed History: Caerme’onn originated in the ancient era of the nomadic seeds, out of a marriage between a seed whose name is lost to time, and a clan of elves from far away. In their union, they took the name “Caerme’onn”, meaning ‘born of destiny’. The Caerme’onn were one of many seeds who fought alongside the Green Dragon Taynei in her war against Garthon, the draoi usurper. The clan’s name faded into obscurity as with many others following that ancient war and the death of traditional mali’ame culture that followed. But, come the 16th century of the Common Era, one Artimec “Camoryn” traced his lineage back to his ancient tribal roots, and brought his tribe and its customs into the modern era, paving the way for a pan-wood elven cultural revival, with clan Caerme’onn being at the forefront of this. Taliame’onn Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: A wide crest of multicolored flowers, placed on the lower back, upper back, and chest. Seed Chieftain: Skylar Taliame’onn (LaffenOutLoud) Seed Culture: The patrons of the Taliame'onn are Kholibrii and Kwakwani. The values the Seed founded itself upon were beauty, vibrancy, and artisanry. The Taliame'onn have managed the Irrinite libraries over the past many years, and have since their foundation incorporated scholarly work and book writing into their daily lives and hobbies. They are a very bright tribe, and view everything in the world as a canvas awaiting to be brought alive with color, including their very own bodies. All forms of art and craftsmanship are encouraged, but the end goal is always to create something vibrant with color and beauty and honorific of Kholibrii. The Taliame'onn tend to wear self-sewn, vibrant and articulate pieces of clothing, and can nearly always be seen wearing Tiva wreaths. Ritual and religion is interwoven with the life of a Taliame'onn. A Seed member who does not know the sacred flower language, Tiva, is unheard of. This tribe tend to worship the Aspects and the Mani in very primal acts and rites which involve fluid dancing, art, instruments, candles, incense, stones, Tiva, and natural trinkets. Seed History: The beginnings of the Seed begin towards the end of the nomadic period in 'ame history, with a forbidden friendship in the woods between an 'ame male and 'aheral female. The young woman was captivated by the culture she was taught, including Tiva - something she fell in love with, being an apprentice florist. He told her tales of his gods, painted her with natural pigments and taught her how bright, colorful and joyous the forest could be. She fell in love with these beliefs and decided to spread them to her people, a tragic event where they rejected and belittled her for believing in such "fairytales" and being attracted to such impure things. This forced her to leave her people, moving in with the boy from before - Starting a family after many years, basking in the colorful and primal things her old people would once scoff at. Arvellon Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: An orange sleeve of tribal designs that are centered upon the bicep and shoulder with blank orange leading onto a smaller section of designs that wrap just below the wrist. Topping the sleeve, upon the shoulder, is the head of a wildcat and two raven wings. Seed Chieftain: Nerrin Arvellon (DrinkPesticide) & Eretria Arvellon (Mewliet) Seed Culture: The Arvellon are the autumnally themed tricksters and watchers of the wild seeds, valuing a collection of knowledge as well as a good prank. They almost always wear a vigilant gaze and grin along with their uniquely colored attire and tattoos. But not only are they avid observers of all things and fine tricksters, but craftsmen of beautiful creations in any art they deem worthy of their time. Coupled with their strong love and respect for cats of all kinds, they make for a colorfully unique people. Seed History: Founded by a jovial mali’ame named Carsul’il in the times of the first migration and Malin himself, the Arvellon originally lived in their secretive ame’lie known as the Harvest Wood, a grove said to have been in a state of perpetual Autumn. For most the mali’ame’s history, the Arvellon remained unknown yet ever observant until their recent resurgence. Tahorran Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: The stylistic depiction of a brown eagle, with the wings wrapping around the tribesmans’ arms, with the head, crest and beak bared proudly on the chest if male, and on the face if female. Seed Chieftain: Laetranis ap Tahorran (linzexu) and Anessen ap Tahorran (Joseph_V_b00) Seed Culture: The Tahorran, much like the Terin, are a river tribe. They are master canoe-builders and fishermen, specializing in following the annual salmon runs, where in the space of one spring season they can catch, prepare and smoke enough fish to last them the whole rest of the year. Tahorran are also fierce warriors, and skilled craftsmen. They weave clothing, baskets out of the red cedar tree’s roots, while carving chests and totem poles out of red cedar flesh. The Tahorran are gifted ame’lie weavers, masters of cultivating and harvesting specialized trees that render all sorts of traditional mali’ame products like barkcloth, ironwood, lensoulem fruits, among other bounties. They primarily worship the Thunderbird Mani Nemglan, whom they pray to before their long river journeys. Seed History: As legend has it, the first ancestors of the Tahorran tribe were born when Nemglan, the Thunderbird, took on an elvish form and took a lover from among the daughters of Malin. From thus forth, his elvish descendants named themselves for their ancestral God: The Hawk Prince, Tahorran, and bore his amber yellow eyes. They are also tied to the semi-mythical ancient hunter known as Faeinn, who is said to have tracked a silver stag through the deepwoods for one year and one day. The deer revealed itself to be Cerridwen herself, who imparted upon Faeinn the art of the ame’lie tree cultivation, which she spread across all the Mali’ame tribes. Sirame Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: A viridian dragon that dances around the arm of the seed member, the mark of Taynei’hiylu, the green dragon taught the ways of aspectism by Malin himself. It wraps around the arm and shoulder, and members may adorn themselves with green flames in other places on their body to show their commitment. Many members also have a wreath of laurels tattooed into their palm, showing their peaceful ways and their helping hand to others. Chieftain: Awaiti Sirame (Irrin) Seed Culture: The tribe of Sirame ties their honor to the state of the woodlands around them. If the wilds are flourishing with their people, they see it as a sign of great success in their mission. If the forest is overharvested, or torn apart to house their kin, they see it as failure. The forest is their connection to the aspects, and it must be upkept in order for them to feel one with them. Just as a canonist prays in a church, a member of the Sirame delves into the forest, seeking to be surrounded by only trees to pray and pay their respects. Family is not bound by blood, but rather by honor. The seed itself is quite varied, with mali of red hair and dark hair, and skins of dark oak to sandy colors. Adoption is common, and any are welcome to join should they prove their honor is strong enough. Above all else, however, they seek to carry on Irrin Sirame’s work, who passed on the faith of Malin to her kin. The spreading of the worship of aspects is important to them, and all members follow the faith ardently. Keeping the culture of seeds alive is another goal, as well as ensuring that the mali’ame always have a home. If not, the Sirame will forge one anew. Seed History: Being a rather new seed, their history has yet to be written. However, they tie the story of their history with that of the ele’haelun mali’ame, Irrin Sirame. She served as the great matriarch of the first woodland tribes, and established the mali’ame culture as we know it today. She started from lowly roots, climbing to the inner circle of Malin’s trusted lieutenants, showing that any may forge the way for our kin if their will is strong enough. Though Irrin herself bore no children, the Sirame take her name as their own, in hopes of continuing her life’s work on their own. The name itself has become an honorific, a mark of the honorable and reverent sons and daughters of the forest. After departing from her old seed, the Aureon, Awaiti established the Sirame seed as it stands today, a clan dedicated to the upkeep of the ways of the mali’ame. Illathdyn Spoiler Ilmyumier: Orange-red tattoos that outlines ones lower jaw, often bearing "teeth" that jut upwards. The design follows down one's shoulders and sternum, often bearing their own abstract design unique to the individual in question, but is usually made up of sharp points and detailed edges. Chieftain: Eir'thall Ilathdyn (unwillingly) Culture: A more secluded and lesser-known seed, the people of Ilathdyn are proud, passionate, and hardy mali’ame wrought from fire and flames. In days of yore, they were once known as Ignesae, which refers to the burning of cities and fields in common. It is very rare that a woman would be accepted into the seed, and even more deplorable, homosexuals, as they are believed to be a direct threat to mali'ame people. They oft wear hues of red, orange, and black, representing their passion for flames and fire. History: Little is known of the Ilathdyn people, for it is rumored that they were once attempted to be erased from the pages of mali'ame history for their outlandish and savage ways. Their name went unheard of for centuries, until recently recovered tomes spoke of their story. However, such tomes were only recovered among ash and soot, for they had been burned to near complete incineration -- to this day, it is unknown why. Little remained among the pages, leading to years of research in an attempt to uncover their full history. Despite this, their origins and disappearance remains largely a mystery. Asimulum Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: A black semi-abstract tribal tattoo depicting the head, neck and flowing mane of a horse. It wraps around the arm and shoulder, but more complete depictions of a horse may expand over the shoulder to the chest or back. Seed Chieftain: Nivndil Asimulum’ker (Nivndil) Seed Culture: Asimulum are a matrilineal Seed whose customs are founded upon hospitality, spirituality and bonding with horses. Children are taught to ride from a young age, but will not be entrusted with a mount of their own until they demonstrate the maturity and capacity to form a mutually respectful bond with a horse. One’s horse is considered part of the Seed, it is thought to be a truly wicked act to neglect or abuse any animal, but particularly such a horse. Hospitality is highly valued among Asimulum too, with various cultural norms about how one treats a guest in their home. Always the home of an Asimulum, no matter how grand or meagre, is thought to be a sanctuary for those in need. Lastly, deceitfulness and emotional stagnation are deep taboos among the Mali of this Seed, believed to corrupt and malform the Spirit, while the embracing of emotions(however painful) are thought to bring one to a ‘fuller’ state of being. Seed History: A popular myth among the Asimulum is that they are descendants of a group of Elves who during the war between mortals and Iblees bred horses for Malin’s folk to ride into battle. When Malinor eventually fell, it’s believed that these horsemasters then followed Irrin Sirame into the deep forests of the world and became a tribe of nomadic Mali’ame, who would emerge from the forests to pasture horses and trade with outsiders. The traditions of horsemastery continue to this day even, and many Asimulum practice in mounted archery, and racing for sport or hunting. Minor & Wandering Seeds Seeds that either have no permanent home, or are cadet branches of larger seeds. Songbird Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: There are two variants of the Lenetta tattoo, one baring the golden wings and crest of the eagle prince Nemglan, and one baring the delicate feathers of the Raven, Kwakwani. Typically worn upon the face or arms, in both cases. Seed Chieftain: Devika Songbird (Tigergiri) Seed Culture: The Lenetta, known more commonly as the Songbirds (which is what Lenetta means in Elvish) are performer peoples. They revel in song, dance, story telling, and stunt acts. Songbirds are gypsies in every sense of the word, each member of the clan is trained from a very young age to master a performing art, be it an instrument, dance, or some sort of daredevil act. The Songbirds live in mobile house-wagons, which can easily be transported from town to town. Although Irrinor serves as their main hub, due to their shared heritage with the other wood elven tribes, the Songbirds often wheel off their wagons to other towns, where they put on fantastic shows, dazzling the crowds with their performances. The Songbirds are made up of two main bloodlines, the Eagle- whose members bare golden eyes and brown hair, and the Raven- whose members bare dark hair and blue eyes. Seed History: The Songbird clan began with a warrior named Faelian, whose barbarity and bloodlust in battle led many to believe he was directly possessed by the great Wolf spirit himself. Faelian took charge of many raids against his enemies, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. As Faelian grew older and wiser, he began to see error in his ways. The remorse for the killings he had committed, and the grief he had put upon thousands of widows and orphaned children came down upon him like the weight of a mountain. He turned away from his tribe, and burned his bow and spear, swearing never to take another life. One day, witnessing the grief of the repentant man, the trickster Raven Kwakwani descended down upon him, and bestowed upon him the gift of song. From that day on, Faelian travelled the world, spreading music, dance and joy where he went, balancing out the sorrow he had caused before. Eventually, he gained a wife, then children, then a whole following of loyal artists, all devoted to performing like him. The Songbirds had been born. Aureon Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: Dark greek ink, in the shape of an ame’lie tree. Traditionally the trunk tattooed on the back, and branches spread out over the body. Seed Chieftain: Lyemar Aureon (Kaelan_) and Leilani Aureon (xburdenx) Seed Culture: The Aureon are among the most skilled in the ancient wood elven craft of ame’lie, cultivating specialty timbers. Particularly, Aureon craftsmen have perfected the art of tempering Ikurnim’onn, a wood that, when prepared right, can be made as hard as steel. In the modern era, After many years of delving into the ways of the Seeds and teaching her dedicants the Balance and Aspectism, Lady Steward and Naelurir Archdruid Arahaelth Aureon created a structured manuscript detailing the key values of the seed, along with how aspiring members would prove these values to the Aureons. These values are as follows. Faith Kinship Honour Cohesion Self Worth Knowledge Seed History: The Aureon lived for centuries under their grand Chieftain and Seed Mother Elenwë. In a time when most Seeds were nomadic, they lived in permanent settlements, cultivating Ame’lie, specifically bred trees that could produce bark as hard as iron. Elenwë would be slain in a war with an orcish tribe, and the Aureons would die out as a result, becoming obscure for centuries. Until Prince Artimec Camoryn called upon the mali’ame people to remember their Seeds and rebuild them in the modern era. The Aureon people were one of the first to answer the call. They strove to bring back the life the forest sustained them with and to this day, continue to do so Terin Spoiler Seed Ilmyumier: A green spiralling shape typically located upon the left shoulder and looping around to the lower back. Seed Chieftain: Calius Terin (ShadowedOblivion) Seed Culture: A true seed of stewardship, either for that of the land or the people. Many Terins have found themselves through their lives as either Druids or Caretakers of the wild, or as domestic administrators within elven lands. The seed is often known for considering everyone to be family in some sort of way. Despite the seed itself being rather small, members prefer to value actions louder than words. Members of the Terin Seed value selflessness and family over all else, with community following shortly behind those. While not quite known for being warriors, the Terin seed has always been known to defend the place it calls home tooth and nail before they let something take over. Once prominent in the Dominion of Malin, the Terin seed can be found today mostly in the Talus Grove of the Druids, or roaming the various woodlands in the western wilds. Seed History: The Terin Seed was never known for its size or power like other notable seeds, rather sticking to a small nomadic living in the trees of great forests. The Seed being known for following rivers and only recently returning to civilization as of Athera.
