RPing consequences

Can somebody explain to me why all people do is complain about how villains doing killing roleplay is bad but as soon as we move to something that actually offers a significant conseqeunce and/or development as opposed to murdering a character the victim with a missing eye or limb, who was fully capable of participating in combat with several severe fleshwounds and broken bones beforehand, suddenly becomes as delicate as a flower and dies of “shock” or some bullshit stroke. It’s pretty annoying and scummy, and quite honestly I feel like purposefully dying to be respawned at monks with no repercussions should be considered meta or a force PK. There are even times somebody will have their eyes/arm removed and then be HEALED specifically so that they don’t die but have to RP the consequences but they SOMEHOW end up dying anyway only to be revived with a new, fresh arm/eye.

When it reaches a point where there was actual build up and reasoning behind getting maimed, then sure. I think that people should be encouraged to let that have a significant impact on their character, because it’s an opportunity for character development. It’s lazy RP to just instantly go get a stupid ass limb and ignore all of the buildup behind the RP.

On the other hand, its understandable if someone doesn’t want to go through with getting an entire limb cut off just for being a citizen of x nation, for example, which is something we see a lot. It’s lazy RP and doesn’t actually have any meaning behind it for anyone other than “HURHUR UR PART OF NATION I DONT LIKE” or dumb **** like that. That isn’t RP consequence. That’s lazy writing.

I also don’t think its outrageous to not want to RP a completely blind person after ur char gets their eyes cut out. U become helpless and can’t do jack **** realistically without getting other people to help u, which is a hassle OOCly, but then when u actually try to do **** on ur own since u cant find anyone to help u in RP, people go “wELL uR bLiND sO HOw cAN u DO THaT?”  in ooc

Reminder that we are the main character on lotc and as such everyone who would stop our attempts to be such is a bad RPer and a powergamer if they antagonize and begin to win a fight, etc. xd

stop dodging my crossbow bolts  : (

tbf humans try to do what benefits themselves – it takes lot of self-awareness to stop ourselves from doing these things naturally and to learn how to enjoy our character’s failures knowing it is apart of storytelling.

i remember during 2emps people wouldn’t be imprisoned b/c “heart attack aghghh” and it was ruled that was an OK thing to do

so people resorted to quick nuggeting (chopping just all limbs off then cauterizing) then sending them back out so they would have to rp consequence, or mods would get involved if they didnt or if they pkd or something

we’ve moved a long way since then and tbf its really just up to the playerbase and the respect they hold for roleplay, we’ve improved much since then and while there still is occasional groan-worthy rp because of ooc siding regarding to capturing or the like, it is what it is

anyone should be able to try and maim you for any reason, especially bandits

you cant expect villains to give good roleplay (or even exist) when they aren’t taken seriously or are crushed beneath rules, metagaming, ooc, etc. ppl just need to chill out on all sides and realise its roleplay

Your mistake is expecting other players to be serious enough to rp consequences, the majority of the community is not willing to have flawed or handicapped characters, so expect nothing and you wont be disppointed. As an ET you can make them agree on certain terms to make sure they do so after your events.

If your only villian roleplay, is murder or extreme maiming to the point where the character is pretty much dead anyway. Why would people wish to rp such. Do something actually different that is not murder maim kill kill rp.

Don’t push for consequence for the sake of consequence, and make it fun and natural and people will often accept consequences of their own accord. Doing an ongoing eventline in Haense in which 5 people have already PK’d.

The worst part is when you capture somebody for high crimes they committed through villainy, try to remove their hands but not kill them so they don’t have to deal with it, and then they lose one hand and bleed out from the other (despite medical RP in a clinic with everything you need to survive) and emerge from Cloud Temple with Captain Black Beard’s sword-peg arm-stump so they can be cooler. Then, they come right back and do it again – except they kill someone with their stump-sword-arm. Hahaha

if you roleplay your character dying of a stroke (or some other unwarranted complication) in lieu of rping, you should be forced to pk. this standard is already applied to captivity, but it should just be unilateral: if you die and some other person or entity didn’t immediately cause it, you are permanently dead.

that being said seeing a lot of stones being thrown from glass houses here. you want “rp consequences” rp them yourself, if someone dies to get out of your villain rp it’s on you bud
