Liquid Lightning

This is what happens when one tries to harness the power of the gods, and create lightning. The liquid sparks and crackles, charged with electricity.

Spoiler

Recipe:

Aqua Vitae mixed with crunched Adfectio stones, and some burnt wood

1x Fire Sign

3x Chaos

1x Rage

1x Air Sign

2x Separation

2x Instability

1x Sugar

Creation:

Create a base via aqua vitae, and shatter the Adfectio stones until a fine powder. This is added to the vitae and married. After, add the burnt wood. Some people use wood burnt by lightning, though such is not necessary.

With the base done, make 3 groupings, one is made with the fire sign, chaos symbols, and rage. Mix the grouping until it is a bubbling red. The second grouping involves the air sign and separation symbols, which should leave a wispy gray concoction. The last grouping is a simple mix of Instability and sugar, which will cause a potion that makes soft popping sounds.

Now, one must fuse these together, with the base being the first thing. It is a good idea for one to carefully mix these potions, as there is a possibility for the liquid, due to the force and friction of the process being done, to accidentally lash out electricity, and cause some minor damage. The mixing process is to be briefly done once every four hours for the span of 12 hours. Once done, this will leave a light blue liquid that exudes small sparks along with tiny wisps of smoke.

Effects:

The sparking liquid is both filled with and capable of creating charged electricity. On its own, a flask filled liquid’s electricity, if applied on something, will emit a medium charge, capable of shocking individuals and burning; though prolonged exposure for a minute narratively (often six turns) can cause deadly results, or cause one to fall unconscious. The effects can be more harmful, causing horrific burns and subjecting one to high current and voltage should a conductive liquid also be applied. Otherwise, it might be used by crossbowmen with specialized bolts to deal electric damage to a target, likely to cause muscle seizing. Most notably, the liquid lightning flask is often hot to the touch due to the liquid inside, so one often puts it in a dampening material, such as leather, cloth, or some kind of insulator as to not feel the heat.

Redlines:

A flask of Liquid Lightning is more likely to cause burns and muscle seizing than it is to be lethal. However, if one is covered in conductive fluid then the possibility of lethality becomes higher.

Seizing is defined as the muscles forcibly contracting and being unable to relax. This can cause stiff body parts, which can make fluid and quick motions incredibly difficult and painful to attempt. Movement will also likely be slowed down, at most letting one move three meters per turn assuming they are in ample moving condition.

Burns are caused when the individual is wearing flammable clothing, wearing clothing thinner than a medium padded gambeson, or wearing some conductive material.

Plate armor, while conductive, will at most heat up and burn the individual if the lightning is applied to it. This is due to the electricity wanting to go along the metal rather than through it. See a Faraday Cage

Specialized projectiles would require a small vial that is delivered by the item, and such would need to be shattered upon the projectiles impact. This, without anything conductive is only strong enough to cause someone to seize up for one emote and giving them light burns. If multiple projectiles are used, it is possible for the victim to be incapacitated through the use of three bolts. More could prove lethal, though if one wanted to be lethal they would go for piercing vital areas.

A flask, should it be thrown and shatter on something without anything conductive, will cause spasms and seizing for two emotes, and will cause 2nd degree burns at most. If the fluid is still on the person, it will really just burn them after, hindering them.

Conductive liquid will cause the potion’s effects to be multiplied. Projectiles would be amplified, with a two emote seizing and causing harsh scarring and burns. This can be crippling after four emotes of exposure with the conductive fluid. Thrown flasks would deal third degree burns, and be utterly debilitating, flooring even the mightiest of beasts; this can be lethal after five emotes of exposure after the now three emote seize

This is considered an uncommon potion. The potion can be self taught, but this requires a good reason in character. For example, This potion was created under the notion that lightning, which is assumed to be some unknowable force, can be captured, and thus studied. This used a capacitor of sorts to try to entrap the lightning, and as such, the creation of this concoction began. Please consult the ST before self-teaching.

Bottled Lightning

Also referred to as God’s Wrath, this is what happens when one tries to recreate lightning in its absolute entirety. Electricity crackles and arcs within the concoction.

Spoiler

Recipe:

Aqua Vitae mixed with crunched Adfectio stones, and some burnt wood

1x Aethier Symbol

3x Chaos

1x Fire Sign

1x Rage

1x Power

1x Air Sign

2x Separation

2x Instability

1x Swiftness

1x Sugar

Creation:

A similar process to liquid lightning, create the base the same, and make groupings.

Group 1:

Aethier

3x Chaos

Group 2:

Fire

1x Rage

1x Power

Group 3:

Air

2x Seperation

2x Instability

Group 4:

Sugar

1x Swiftness

Put these together starting with the base, and mix every so often. Do this for once every four hours for 12 hours, then let it reduce down until there is no liquid. All that will be left is electricity.

Effects:

The lightning in a flask can be used for a variety of applications, one such thing would be that it can produce a great amount of heat and energy just from being in the bottle alone, which can make it incredibly hot to the touch,  as well as other applications such as high capacity electroplating. Often, transporting it requires some reinforced glass to make sure the heat does not fully transfer and burn one’s hand by touch. Though, if one were to touch it with their fingers, the electricity would reach out to try to touch one’s fingers, and be warm to the touch. If one were to expose the bottled lightning via opening its entrapment, it would immediately shoot out as fast as lightning and try to ground itself, which will mean the potion can no longer be used. However, if one were to get struck, it would be like getting struck by lightning. This is often too big to carry in anything smaller than a flask, with larger containers built for more non combative applications. Notably, if one were to add weakness, it would lower the output, making it less powerful and more handleable for recreational applications.

Redlines:

Bottled Lightning can be no smaller than a flask. The electricity released by it is not lethal unless directed at an unarmored combatant’s heart and the hit would need to be dead on, but is capable of incapacitating and causing 3rd degree burns, seizing, mass scarring, and nerve damage. Furthermore, one would need to have the cap of the flask aimed at the specific area, and then have the cap opened.

Nerve damage is defined as causing one to be numb in the area which the lightning is applied to. Nerve damage causes:

– A lingering atrophy for the duration of the encounter (or permanently if the victim wants it to).

– A  Burning sensation for two turns.

- A numbness that kicks in after the burning, lasting for five emotes.

Dispersing Oil

Used to counter lightning’s wrath, this oil is applied on the clothing of those working in areas with a mass amount of storms and lightning.

Spoiler

Recipe:

Aqua Vitae Base mixed with an earth sign and vegetable oil.

1x Connection

2x Curtailment

1x Death

Effects:

This, when treated on clothing or items, provides resistance against lightning and electricity. It diminishes the energy and does not allow it to pass, which causes one to worry less about the horrific muscle spasms and possibly lethal effects of electricity. However, the concussive force from lightning blasts can still prove a problem, while it might not be lethal, it will still be felt. Furthermore, heat can start to lift from the treated substance if there is a lot of exposure to electricity.

Redlines:

Requires the item to be treated.

While the oil stops the harmful effects of electricity, if it is surging towards one with great speed, the force can still be felt. It is unlikely to be lethal, and likely to cause one to stagger, if not get floored depending on where they got hit. It all depends on context, for example, if one was to get struck by lightning, it is highly likely one would be sent to the ground, and suffer some stable fractures on weak bones, if at all.

Heat can accumulate from prolonged and mass exposure, which will cause the oil to release smoke and heat up the area, though not to the point where it will catch on fire or be painful. Generally, this is more uncomfortable than actually hindering.
