Creation of art through ancient means.

A Chi Spiritualists drawing of the body accompanied by theories on Chi.

Since nearly the dawn of The Race of Man has writing and art existed and throughout history these two have worked in tandem but also often on their own. Through writings of peace or declaration of war, writing and art has done tremendous things through the eons and eras. With this in mind, a single monk set out to create a unique creation by intertwining two important parts of his life, that of writing and that of Chi. With this as a goal the single monk set out and firstly conversed with those in his innermost circle consisting of the monks, the council of chi, and anyone of the Hou lands he could find. For many moons he thought on this and the words of those nearby. He then set out searching for a means to intertwine the two and began experimenting. It was through this the first drops of precious ink were formed and then used soon after. After further findings it was realized that to each their ink was unique to some extent and often carried curious effects when drawn on paper but even more when upon those who could control chi itself. Soon, the art of Chi Scribing was born. The art itself is as simple as drawing to becoming complex as hiding messages deep inside murals and paintings. It gained no traction as a means to kill or harm but gained great use for the artists, poets, and monks of the modern era.

| Abilities of Chi Scribing |

Terminology

Spoiler

Chi : A bi-product of any living soul. It is invisible to any non-monk and has capabilities to do many strange things.
Chi Scribe : One who scribes using specially made ink infused with Chi better known as Moshui or Chi Ink.
Chi Ink / Moshui : Normal ink that has undergone a specific process and absorbed an excessive amount of chi.
Monk / Monks / A Monk : Refers specifically to someone who has the ability to control their own chi and may sense it passively

Chi Scribing is an act in which a monk uses specifically designed Moshui to create art, tattoos, or wording. These have specific purposes and are able to do an array of things. All written inside of this are non-combat and may not be used directly in a combative sense. Any monk may train to become a scribe under another with a proper feat TA that has had the feat for at least 6 IRL weeks. The learning monk must be at least T3 as they are required to have a good control of chi sense for the feat to be usable. The main abilities of Chi Scribing are Imbuing, Sealing, Movement, Grand Sealing and Removal. All of these are further elaborated upon below.

Infusion | T3 Monk | 4 Emotes + 1 Focus : 5 Emote | 2 Chi Slots

Spoiler

To infuse is to imbue any normal ink with excessive Chi. This process is the first ability a monk will learn. When used it creates Moshui or Chi ink. This ink is specifically unique to each monk that makes it and its color is influenced by the emotions of the monk at the current time. A monk of one path may never cross over into the color of the opposite path. This means a sun monk may never create blue ink and inversely a moon monk may never create a shade of red ink. The unique influence from each user has a large range of possibilities. This is purely aesthetic but may include things such as being warmer/colder, higher/lower saturation, any shade of red or blue, may be naturally thicker like a paste or smooth like paint, and lastly may range in intensity of the color. All these effects may not have any ability beyond aesthetic and cannot be used combatively. Moshui may be used by anyone and will keep its unique properties; however they may not access any further than its use as a somewhat mundane ink. When created the monk must have an approved vessel to hold it that contains 4 ‘uses’ of ink.

The exact process is often free form between each group of monks or even between each monk. It must follow some rough guidelines but other than that it’s done however one wants to. Rather it be a complex ritual or a simple one where deep meditation and chi are poured into the ink. The few select guidelines are that the ritual must involve obvious signs of chi being imbued into the ink, the monk must have focused for one emote beforehand, and it cannot be done in combat.

Anything created with Moshui will dry much slower than normal ink and oftentimes will smear or distort if left out for too long. For this reason Sealing was created and without being Sealed, Moshui will run off easily and turn liquidy and mundane over time.

Redlines
- Ink can be anything such as oil or water based ink but may not be anything that is a paste. It has to be liquidus at first and then altered to be thick through the ritual.
- Not usable in combat.
-If Moshui is used and painted onto a smooth surface that doesn’t absorb the paint, it will slowly turn into mundane water over the course of a week. This also applies that if Moshui is left out for too long that it will simply turn back into water over a week of constant exposure.
-Anything refered to as a number of Moshui used (aka for Sealing its 1-2 Moshui) is the same as its uses number. Effectively this means that each creation of Moshui can be a max of four uses and each time a scribes uses the Moshui it will diminish and have to be made again.

Sealing | T3 Monk | 2 Emotes + 1 Focus | 1 Chi slot | 1-2 Moshui

Spoiler

The act of sealing is one in which a monk creates a permanent or semi-permanent work upon a person or drawing surface. This works by taking the already infused Moshui and then covering it with another layer of Chi that prevents its weathering by movement, time, or weather. The three mediums of creation with Moshui are writing, art, and tattoos. Any sealed tattoos will become imbued inside of the soul blueprint and will grow back should the skin be removed. These tattoos may emit a light glow when any form of energy is channeled through the person. This glow doesn’t create strong light but in darkness may be seen and is purely aesthetical. If created on parchment, textile, or any medium of artistic means the Moshui will gain a somewhat glassy feel  but will look as though it was normal colored paint. If exposed to any weathering it will find itself immune to such and for this reason some items will find longevity even in harsh weathering. This doesn’t make the material it is on unbreakable, but rain and natural weathering will have no effect on its paint. It may be scraped off any surface as though it were normal paint; although it cannot be taken off one's body without great effort. The downside of such a simple technique is that it may only seal small portions of Moshui at any given time. No tattoos larger than an entire arm or half of one's torso may be done. No painting exceeding 3 feet by 3 feet may be sealed by this means and nothing more than a single scroll's worth of lettering may be sealed. Statues, complex paintings of large scale, and larger tattoos must rather be sealed in multiple segments or sealed through a Grand Sealing.

The practice of doing it requires a monk to focus. After this they must spread their chi out thinly overtop the ink and then in one sudden sweep push it onto the Moshui. Once this happens it must stay there and bind the Moshui. This takes the form of rather a glassy paint or being ingrained into one's skin like a tattoo.

Redlines
-Max size of  approximately 3x3 square feet or 1 square meter. No larger may be done with simple sealing. May be done on the body with a full sleeve or half of one's torso.
-Cannot be used in combat
-Must be drawn in Moshui ink made by a monk to be sealed.

Movement Sealing | T4 Monk | 5 Emotes + 1 Focus | 2 Chi slots | 3 Moshui

Spoiler

Although it is similar to sealing, it has a unique effect that allows the creation to move when chi is channeled. It may be the same size as any normal sealing. The process is the same with the exception that two different drawings, words, or phrases must be drawn with a line connecting from the first to the second. This line must be finished with an arrow that spans from the first piece of work and points to the second. They must be of similar size. After they are properly drawn and decided upon, the monk must then seal both of these works in a large action that consumes equal amounts of chi as to making a full basin of Moshui. After this is done the drawing will rest in its default state and the line will disappear forever. When a monk focuses the art will begin to shift and at this point it will move over the course of their focus emote(s) to its second position. Anyone who cannot channel chi can get this a tattoo through this means, although it will lie totally dormant until they are capable of doing such. When focus is gained, the drawing will glow lightly and shift to its second position where it will remain until no longer focused on. If the drawing isn’t on a person and is instead on a painting or a wall it will visibly stick out to any monk as a unique source of chi. This is noticed through their chi sense and to them shows as a bright and deeply infused drawing. If any chi is channeled through this drawing or art, it will shift to its second position and stay there for as long as the monk feeds it minuscule amounts of chi.

Redlines
-Cannot be used to gain an advantage in combat or created during combat.
-The drawings must be similar in size in both forms and cannot exceed the size of a normal Sealing.
-This is purely aesthetic as all abilities are. Most anything can be done with it as long as it is inside of the written lines above.

Grand Sealing| T5 Monk | 6 Emotes + 1 Focus : | 3 Chi Slots | 4+ Moshui

Spoiler

Often only a technique done by an artist of a grand proportions. This is a delicate process in which the monk covers the entirety of their workspace in the haze of their Chi much like Sealing. The difference comes at the size maximums and effort required to create such things. With the same process as sealing but with more elaborate emotes may one seal these often extremely complex works of art. It may even be used to seal bodywide tattoo’s or up to 4 scrolls at once.

The exact process of it is left up to the player. As previously mentioned it must maintain some semblance to a ritualistic way of covering Moshui with more chi and then pressing it down onto the ink to preserve it.

Redlines
No larger than 10x10 meters or 30x30 feet. May cover one's entire body in tattoos and may seal 4 scrolls at once.
Not usable in combat

Ritual
Removal | T5 Monk | 6 Emotes + 1 Focus x 3 |3 Chi slots

Spoiler

Removal of Moshui upon one's body or even upon paintings and sculptures is a rather complex process. Moshui itself is a complex mix between ink and chi and once sealed only more chi is used to protect it. For this reason, removing it off of one's body not only involves uprooting it off their skin but also removing it from the surface of their soul blueprint. Over the course of three different sessions that take place on three different (IRL) days may a tattoo be fully removed. This involves using the monk's own chi as a means to painfully remove the Moshui from the skin in a process similar to how monks numb their body. The pain experienced by Removal is constant to a warm iron on a sunburn.  They create a complex web of Chi and then slowly leech out the Moshui. After three sessions of it, the tattoo will have faded and is replaced instead with a very painful second degree burn for 1 IRL week. After removal and the burn has healed the tattoos faint outline will still exist and be noticeable only upon intense inspection.

Redlines
-May not be used on anything other than a drawing made of Moshui and will only completely be unsealed after the third session. It can be used on any type of sealing rather it be Movement, Grand, or Simple sealing.

| After Effects |
~ The curious after effects of Chi scribing. ~

Spoiler

There are a few select side effects to each form of Moshui and aside from its unique composition these also occur as a side effect. For each sun and moon infused Moshui are there unique effects and they must be roleplayed out properly but are often minimal.

Any tattoo that has been sealed by Movement, Simple, or Grand sealing will naturally glow when energy is pushed through said person's body. These are actions such as connecting to the void, channeling an Aenguldaemonica’s power, or even such as withdrawing amber. The exception is only when power isn’t directly used or flowed from your body and instead manipulated (Controlling lifeforce or ectoplasm externally or Kani). Exclusively when a chi monk focuses and has a tattoo sealed onto them it will glow stronger than when any form of other energy is channeled. A monk may also find that when chi is channeled through them that the tattoo emits the emotion that it was originally infused with during the creation of its Moshui. It is because of this that monks may radiate a certain aura almost passively. For any Moshui made by a moon monk, they will radiate calmness, focus, tranquility, or peace. All of which extend out three meters in each direction. For any Moshui made by a sun monk, the feeling will be energized, ready, focused, or worked up. This too expands out three blocks in each direction.

Post removal of these tattoo’s will often be sensitive around the area for a very long time afterwards. They also will have a slight outline of them around the area however they may be removed fully by a moon monks Ritual of Purification.

Redlines
-Any tattoo may glow lightly when any person uses a mystical form of energy. Only when channeling chi may the tattoo glow brighter and emit a form of energy. Any glow made will be the color of the sealed tattoo.

-The effects are noticeable but cannot be forced upon any one person should they focus upon the opposite emotion or have such excessive amounts of the opposite emotion. Something like an orcs bloodlust cannot be calmed by these means unless they are on the lower end of it or if they submit to its calmness. A monk's tranquility on the opposite end cannot be distrubred should they focus enough to ignore it.
- Any size of tattoo can be removed fully after it has been removed by a Chi scribe using the Ritual of Purification.

Total Redlines & Idea’s

Spoiler

-None of these abilities can be done in combat aside from the side effects of these abilities (aka glowing when using magical energy, movement tattoo’s, etc.)
-Any tattoo may glow lightly when any person uses a mystical form of energy. Only when channeling chi may the tattoo glow brighter and emit a form of energy. Any glow made will be the color of the sealed tattoo.
-To learn you must have a valid Feat application accepted and to teach requires a valid Feat TA.
-This Feat cannot begin being learned until T3 in Chi as it requires one to be able to control chi to such an extent (aka after 1 month of being connected)
-If its not defined in here rather ask an ST or don’t do it. Any loopholes that are abused will be punished for their abuse.

Alterations to Current Lore

Currently there are a few issues with the lore that the monks came together and outlined as needing fixed. Below is a changelog of these and should this piece be reviewed, these changes also need to be approved with it and or changed based on the ST’s verdict. Any of these are subject to change upon review and are often a means to make the job more sensible or the ability to have more use.

Moon Monk Changes

Spoiler

Format:
Ability Name > New ability Name
# of Emotes  >  New # of Emotes
# Of Current Chi slots > New # of Chi Slots
# Of monks needed > New # of Monks needed
# Tier > New # Tier
# Of time(s) > New # Of time(s)
(Anything without a > In the middle of it is considered unchanged.)

Ritual of Sanctuary
0 Emotes ( Passive )
0 Chi Slots ( Passive )
5 Monks > 3 Monks
T5
1 IRL Month > 1 IRL Week
Reason: A month is an excessive amount of time for something that is a passive and calming effect. Needing 5 is also a hard task and has been lowered since the ability is simply a passive thing.

Ritual of Cleansing
7 Emotes > 5 Emotes (1 Focus 4 Cast)
1 Chi slot
3 T4 Monks > 2 T3 Monks
T4 > T3
N/A On Time(s)
Reason: Once again the large amount of numbers makes this ability unusable and for something very minor as this you don't need to cap the ability out to a max to use it.

Ritual of Preparation
Only Change T4 > T3
Reason: To account for the fact that Rituals need to be taught consistently and more often throughout the entirety of the magic rather than all at the end. This changes it so that it may be taught during those early times.

Rejuvenating & Greater Rejuvenating Meditation (Both Abilities)
Clarification of extents, small buff, and more redlines to clarify.

Rejuvenating Meditation | Non Combative | Tier 3

Emote Count: 5 emotes (1 focus 4 cast)

Exhaust: 1 Chi Slot

Spoiler

Description:

The monk sits down and rests, closing their eyes as they would use the chi within them slowly wash over their wounds, healing the small blemishes and cuts that might line their form.
Description:
The monk sits down and while resting uses chi to mend their wounds. This resting meditation may heal non-fatal wounds that are generally towards the smaller side or ones that have already been mended back together partially.

Mechanics:

The monk flushes their skin with the rejuvenating chi of the moon for 3 emotes, the chi slowly mending shallow cuts and bruises that may cover the form of the monk. If the monk is attacked or moved during this time the meditation will fail. This spell only works on the monk, it cannot be used to heal others.

Mechanics:

The monk flushes their skin with the rejuvenating chi of the moon for 4 emotes, the chi slowly mending shallow cuts and bruises that may cover the form of the monk. If the monk is attacked or moved during this time the meditation will fail and all healing will revert back to its previous state. This spell only works on the monk, it cannot be used to heal others. This may heal any non-fatal wound out of combat that is rather no longer bleeding heavily or is no larger than 8 inches in length and 4 inches in depth. It can heal burns of a medium size, bruises, burns equal to or less than second degree, abrasions, and otherwise any minor wounds. Any major wounds healed with this will cause more problems as it makes a  layer of skin over top the wound but if the wound is deep it will continue to bleed inside of them which leaves them open to internal bleeding. During this healing process there is a numbness around any wound being healed that lasts only for as long as it is healed. The pain will still exist after for the next three emotes as the soul adjusts to the strange sorts of healing.

Specific Red Lines:

-This ability can only be used to heal the monk, not anyone else.

-While the monk is meditating, any movement or attack that might strike them will end the ability.

- This ability may only work on non-fatal wounds that are of medium size. Anything that is an extreme wound and can quickly turn into a fatal wound must fully be clotted before it can be healed and anything large that causes internal bleeding inside of organs can be healed on the surface but will cause the internal bleeding to simply continue for longer and likely kill the individual.
-Cannot heal broken bones, wounded organs, or help realign fix or otherwise heal anything except the listed injuries. It does not remove poison from a wound.
-Can only be used when not directly in combat. If you get attacked, the wounds will split open without any scabbing and cause much more blood to be spilled even if previously scabbed. aka, non-combat

Greater Rejuvenating meditation | Non Combative | Tier 4

Emote Count: 6 emotes (1 focus 5 cast)

Exhaust: 1 – 2 Chi Slot

Spoiler

Description:

The monk lays their palm on the forehead of the subject, their peaceful rejuvenating chi flowing through the subject, mending shallow wounds and bruises.

Description:
A monk may, overtime, practice their healing skill to offer minor benefits in addition to that offered in the lesser form of this meditation. The monk lays their hands onto another or their own person and flows peaceful and rejuvenating chi through them, mending an array of wounds.

Mechanics:

The monk flushes the subjects skin with the rejuvenating chi of the moon over 5 emotes, the chi slowly mending shallow cuts and bruises that may cover the form of the subject. If the monk is attacked or moved during this time. As well as the subject, the meditation will fail.

Mechanics:

The monk flushes the subjects skin with the rejuvenating chi of the moon over 5 emotes, the chi slowly mending most wounds that are non-fatal, large, or an organ. If done upon them self it shall consume a single chi slot but use upon another requires an additional use of their slots. This ability can heal any non-fatal wound that is scabbed over or any medium sized bleeding wound. This cannot be used to heal bone or attach limbs again. It may heal up to large wounds, third degree burns, any form of bruising, and abrasions. Anything else cannot be helped such as bones, organs, or connective tissue internally in the body (Tendons, ligaments, etc. Skin is an exception once more). Anytime this ability is used on someone it causes there to be a numbness to pain on their body.

Specific Red Lines:

-while the monk is meditating, any movement or attack that might strike them will end the ability.

-If this ability is used whilst they are damaged by deeper wounds, it will seal off the deeper wounds, but not heal the deep cut, causing internal bleeding.
-
This ability may only work on medium non-fatal wounds or wounds that are clotted fully. A very long but shallow gash my be treated easily, however it must be clotted if it is large. Inversely an arrowhead stuck in someone cannot be removed with this ability and cannot heal any tissue that is an internal organ. (Liver, heart, spleen, kidney, etc etc. Skin is technically an organ, but this is the exception.)
-Cannot heal broken bones, wounded organs, or help realign fix or otherwise heal anything except the listed injuries. It does not remove poison from a wound.
-A medium wound is simply one that isn’t large enough to cause immediate blood loss, but could possibly get infected or worse. A large wound is something that causes immediate and life threatening blood loss but may be healed if scabbed over and no longer bleeding.
-Can only be used when not directly in combat. If you are getting attacked, the wounds will split open without any scabbing and cause much more blood to be spilled. aka non-combat.

End Note
Through all of my time as a Chi monk and after great deliberation I decided to write up this piece. The first part of it entirely is to add a passive aesthetic that can generate interesting roleplay. The idea of Hou-zi scrolls and tattoos is a thing that has already been around for awhile as some Hou tattoo based on their family and many others have created unique pieces of art for it. This in tandem with the new chi scribes will add a unique and enjoyable experience. The alterations and changes put above this will help the magic work more cohesively and fix a lot of the small issues noticed by the community over the course of its first run. Overall the lore has been great but needed some small unforeseen tuning in its use. If accepted an ST member can throw the changes into the guide and leave the chi scribes separate from the rest of it as a Feat. Any feedback is appreciated as this is one of the first real pieces of lore I have submitted and there will be a change log right below this.

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
