[A nymphae morphing into her “natural” form]

 

Humanoid habitants of the fae realm, the nymphae are sentient creatures related to the natural landscape. These female creature’s goals are to defend the natural world from invaders and corruption.

Hardly you would see a nymphae out of the fae realm, but recently more and more sights have been reported.

On a white snake she came, the one with hair that shimmered with the green water and skin that mirror the snake. Curled and vulnerable in the lake.

The white serpent took pity on the women, curling and protecting her from the outside world. Storms brewed around the area as she slept, the water raging and the trees howling as they moved. The forest of The twilight bound Habitants knew nought what to do, for they understood nothing of this strange woman laid in the eye of the storm.

First came Cerrnaus, he remains almost to his people around him. He watched the storm transpire. He called to the Snake “why do you protect this outsider?”

The white snake opened its yellow eyes to the spirit, “I defend what must be saved.”The voice soft like a whisper to the wind. Looking to snake with a nod, “but why must there be storms? You’re frightening us all.”The snake moved its body almost as if noting the storm around him for the first time. “The storms will pass for its brighter on the other side.” Resting his head down once more careful not to rouse the woman. She lay curled in his centre, still like a statue.

 

The animals grew restless they did not know when the storms would pass; there was no way of telling as they blew around. Finally, the wolf king became angry, his people were hungry; they couldn’t find food when everyone was hiding from the storm. He stormed to the lake where the woman and the snake laid. 

 

The wolf yelled out to the snake “You stop this madness at once! I grow tired and famished!” His voice snarls to the winds.

 

The snake opens one eye to watch the wolf “It will pass.” Seemingly to ignore the man.

 Winds picked up more as pollen seems to have gathered and dropped off the centre. The small dustings covering the woman as she lay asleep.The wolf grew angry snarling with his teeth at the snake “you dare defy me?! I’ll come in there and stop this storm myself!” He called his foot stepping into the shallow part of the lake. 

The women stirred at the disturbance of the water yet remained relaxed.  The white snake at new waves of the sea travelling and hitting his scales, both eyes flew open. Watching the wolf, “Protection for the patient.” His voice echoing to the wolf through the storm.

The wolf king grew closer with each step, uncaring the words of the White Snake. His head lowered and hackles raised, smaller wolves echoed in bowls around the lake surrounding the two in the centre.

The white snake curled tighter, protecting his small mass.  With hackles raised the Wolf king lunged fully into the eye of the storm.

The storm around them brewed, eyes outside were lost through mist and water hailed from above.

Water from the outside and splashed on to the women as the wolf king had jumped. Her bright pale eyes flew open glowing and watching him. The women watching the wolf with a gleeful smile.  The small being sneezed, the pollen that had caught into her skin, giving her a glitter to her visage.

Her voice clear in the wolf Kings head “I hope I have not caused you harm. One day I wished to disappear and then I was here. I hope I didn’t cause you trouble?” Her voice light and airy like a soft breeze on a summers day. The more she spoke, the more the weather around them changed. Stepping into the fae realm it was almost the summer had become peaceful, though as grew closer from the being she began to grow frecious insight. Her face contorted and snarled to those she did not know. Merely stepped back she began back to her summery visage. Seems she was forever bound to the person she was found.  It seemed like ages they spent into the fae realm where the wind whistled and created howled. Dead of descendants from what Aiyana could ever know. Her form was stronger and better the descendants in her view. Though she felt lonely to only ever talk to Pan. Her voice mixed with her own, she found herself more and more. And finally decided to visit her once home, through the Fae rings she entered. The little portals  of connections though other ways she did not know.  The wars raged on, but the children well they were lost. Parents are gone, and left without a sight. To her eyes, they were hers to take with wisps and flowers and she took the children one by one. Using her magic to turn them like her, strange creatures. The first was mutilated and unworthy left to forever wander the fae realm looking for their mother. Though as decades went on she had perfected their making.. Springy creatures, beautiful as a petal and some gentle as the water. For once Aiyana was comfortable in her own world with her beautiful children.

Pan the god of the wild, he comes in all forms to help out and protect those who need protecting. No one knows quite what he looks like but he always appears on forms of white. He’s more commonly known as the snake, praised by the Nymphs.  Also known as the first companion, the first of the pack of the nymphs. Though never proven, he can be known as the father of all Nymphs.

Physical Description: 

Skin: Skin colours range from blue-green to brown. The durability of their skin would resemble tree bark. They are reflective of their “habitat”, blending the skin colour to their surroundings. Rocks, flowers and pollen stick to the outer layer forming a decorative to protective like coating. Their skin has a scaly quality to it, much like a  butterflies wing a bit translucent and colourful to match their bodies coloured and surrounded environments. Scales can flip every so few day to appear a different colour. Scales can be pulled from a nymph, making them bleed and not be able to grow that scale back. 

Ears: jut out in three-prong nature, they seem to vibrate when more are near. 

Hair colour: Nature colours, mainly mimicking the colour of leaves

Height: 2’0-2’4 

Weight: around 65 Kg in their “descendant” form

Eye colour: Nymphae seem to share a golden glow in their eye colour

Age: their maxium age without magical help is 90 years. 

Redlines:Scales can only flip shades of their natural colours. They may not flip to red to green. 

If ears are carved, or cut their sense of those around them gets lost, making them more viable to fall into isolation. It is very hard to grow these back or heal over.

Diet

Nymphs are carnivorous creatures, mainly feeding on Insects, butterflies, worms, small birds and chipmunks. Though a pack of nymphs are able to take out a medium animal like any descendant might be able too. They do not normally eat vegetables, though an ill Nymph may be inclined to do so. Though it will hold no flavour and be useful for nutrition only. 

 

STRENGTHS + WEAKNESSES SUMMARY

Nymphs A very useful in all things of trickery. They have innate ability to camouflage leaving them able to one mind eyes. They are very truthful in all things they do, having like most fae the failure to lie to another. Though this may seem like a weakness to most people, to be able to trick others but not lie? Worthy in all ways.  Their weakness lie in loneliness Nymphs can’t survive without a companion of some sort whether its through a colony or Being within the realms. They will slowly go mad without any sort of companionship. 

Mindset: 

Nymphae are mischievous and somewhat flirty creatures by nature, tending to trick the poor souls that wander into their habitat. These ladies of the land aren’t aggressive but can turn pretty quickly against invaders and aggressors using everything they have.

In case of danger for them or the land they live in, they act out as a pack. They can be quite brutal in their ways, impersonating the “wrath of nature”.One may show true leadership, but one shall never act without guidance from another. They can be seen as a hivemind as some, Only the most important details from the collective leader will float through their minds. 

REDLINES: The hive mind does not mean metagaming, it can not give out where or imagery to the group of nymphs. It’s mere of collection of details with no real tangent about what or knows. 

This can only work in a certain radius of 64, someone that is across the map will not know anything or hear anything.

Nymph rather quickly ascends into madness when away from the colony. If a nymph is apart from other nymphs for more than a year they slowly become starved for attention pulling nastier tricks and becoming bolder when around the descendants.  The pupil of their eyes become small and Beady almost always crazed. Seeking to feed on smaller animals, bones and all. Drawn to festivals for their loud noises and pretty colours. Though interactions with fire may cause them to react in the attack.  Much like a colony. Be warned the nymph you're staring at may try to trick you and use you like a tick.

REDLINES: if you are in isolation you are disconnected from the hivemind.

You have the same strength as you would normally do nothing changes other then derangement.  An Isolated Nymph takes longer to do abilities, adding at least another cast time. 

 

AGE/REPRODUCTION

Different Nymphs types hold different ageing thought the maximum one is know to live is around 90 years.  Nereides the sea Nymphs knowing to be the youngest and the fragile kind living only to 50. They seem to age like regular decedent.  

Reproduction of the nymphs can happen in two ways. Nymphs are a mainly female race only a few males have ever been recorded. So when they are around a nymph will reproduce with one creating a new nymph. (a roll of 100 98+ is a male nymph) Then there is the old way through ritual, Much like their mother Aiyana they have cultivated a way to create nymphs through magic artificial in sense. 

 

Ritual of Ganymede:

The Nymphs ritual must be in an area of forestry, the darker it is the more likely it is to work. Only one Nymph is needed but if more show up the greater the power can be. (they) will begin an incantation to sever their link to their ancestors. Using the nature around the being to encase and wrap within the moonlight. Praising both their goddess to bless this vessel with their likeness. Using the mana of their bodies to manifest and infect the body. A nymph won't be able to do this ritual for quite a while after performing. 

Mechanic ooc:

A nymph must perform this in the forest at night time. Taking their innate mana to take a piece of their soul and extend it to their new ‘child’. This can only concur after the age of 20. After the ritual completion, it cant be redone for 1 month. (irl) Though they can help with a ritual. Nymphs directly after involvement cant use their abilities. This can only work on descendants from the age of 5-20. Any older risk the lives of both players. 

Redlines: A willing being must be used, they can not be forced into this process. There is an IRL 1-month cooldown, and an IRL week period where the nymph abilities are on cooldown. Attempts to try using this ability before the cooldown is considered a suicide and self PK. They  can’t FTB with any sentient creature. 

 

Abilities: 

Camouflage [Non-combative]

Description You are able to join or melt in the surrounding nature. To blend in and hide from hostile enemies. With training, you will able to fully manifest into a tree and watch and listen from its roots. Camouflage works best in a group of trees or large bodies of water. a sly outline of you is created

Mechanics It takes three emotes to meld into your surroundings.  the Focus emote to quiet your breathing and concentrate, The second emote to turn the scales reflective, the last emote to fully settle and relax, melding into what ever surface. 

Specific Red Lines

:a nymph cannot hide in a single tree or bush in a city. 

A nymph cannot hide in rain. 

A nymph cannot hide when over-emotional, have to be at least sane or a clear mind.

A nymph doesn't become invisible there will be some semblance of you there. 

Trees can still burn, rocks can still be broken. nymph cannot hide in a single tree or bush in a city.

 

Ganymede [Non-combative]

One focus emotes, to take in the surroundings, usually the vibration of ears and hum of feeling the nature around them.  First Casting emotes, If there is a group they will join hands. Second casting emote: For silence to envelope as everything seems to grow brighter, the eyes of nymphs glowing within the night. Third Casting emote: The environment would soon envelop around their victim/new vessel. Smothering them with pollen. Fourth emote:The plants around forming a flower of sorts, Blossoming to behold the centre of the flower would be the newborn nymph.

Types

Aurades(Wind): Lives mainly in the mountains, near windy areas. They are shorter than the average, around 1.50mt. Their body resembles more the one of a child, with a light frame and innocence. This subrace is quite skittish, nonetheless tricky to deal with

Nereides (Seas): Lives mainly near the coast or in the seas. Their body would resemble one of a mature woman, around the age of 40-50. Nereides are calm and confident. Some have mistaken Nereides for mermaids, as they attract pesky sailors to their death.

Alseids (Groves): habitants of groves, the Alseids are the “oldest” looking nymphae, resembling from anywhere to a youthful woman to 70  years old women. Groves are usually sacred grounds They loves to trick adventurers who enter their forests, making them lose directions into a maze of leaves and trees.

The purpose of this creature is to give the players a new way to explore and roleplay. Using elements from what I know haven’t been used. Leaving it to be more open for players to get more into magic and creatures. Hopefully adding excitement and the need to adventure a bit more into the community. Players such as the wood elves and druids hopefully would be more attracted to play something like this as it holds some qualities to there lifestyles. Such as humans with their creative like minds and tight communities.

Qualms about formatting aside, the lore here should be adjusted to Lotc standard. Fae Realm is correct, but we've no Pan to speak of in our pantheon. Check the Mani-Posts for the Snake Mani for a good replacement. 

 

Also of note some of the aesthetic here are already held by Epiphytes. 

 

Would change the phrasing on the FTB to no FTB

 

There's no precedent for Iron hurting Fae either, that's a weakness from cultures in reality that didn't quite make it. Maybe Ahzs steel hurting them more instead?

 

I'll go over it again when I'm not on mobile, but there's that for now.

I always appreciate new interesting creatures to give players some flavorful RP.

 

But I think the general makeup of this creature already exists, as Epiphytes. Particularly this piece of lore reminds me a lot about Dryads. I think you could work with this still though, and just take it into a different direction. We have seen a lot of playable tree-themed CAs on LOTC, but there’s some more unique things you could do. You could try and go for a niche of “merfolk,” and have them very ocean-inspired (like the Neredeis, that subtype is my favorite and it would be pretty cool if you expanded on it and made it the entire race); or you could give them a more fairy-ish vibe and have them be insect-like, so like butterflies for example. Hell, you could even make them have crystalline growths all over their body. 

I don’t know if you’re aware, but we (LOTC Fae players, who play current Fae or played Fae prior to the lore-games) have a discord server where we discuss & write fae lore & rewrites together.
