MANDATE OF VENNENDAL

Aboard the lower decks of a Vennendalic destroyer, a motley crew of junior sailors sat together, enjoying one of few pleasantries they possessed aboard the ship.

“Take this for instance, if I ever got my hands on an Irik, listen, it’d be lights out for them.” a voice said from among the sofa of the ship’s lounges, Seamen Berend Engert, who set down what appeared to be a wine-filled glass, neatly upon the hardened and hull-bolted coffee tabletop.

“I’m sure that’s what you and the five knuckleheads before you thought before getting their heads ripped off.” replied another sailor, Frank Grader, casually sipping from his own glass.

“Listen, they got four arms. That’s a 2 to 1 advantage. They got you in that department.” said a third, a Naomi Dries.

“You know where they don’t stack up?” Engert said crudely, making an obscene gesture to his crotch, beneath his navy blue service dress uniform trousers.

“All right, time for me to go.” Naomi said, drawing air through her teeth, and rising to her feet.

“Okay, and that is the last time I smuggle drinks onboard for you.” said PO3 Claes Godert, senior amongst the group in rank.

“Come on, that was nothing. Harmless.” Engert said.

“Just leave it. Think we’re on the clock anyways, we’ve got watch shift port side, sectors 13-15.” Godert shook his head.

“Great. Time to stare out at space all day. Nothing.” Engert replied, clicking his tongue, and with a hint of distaste.

“Pipe down, seaman. Be grateful for what you have. Use it as time to reflect.” the petty officer retorted.

“Yeah, at least you’re getting paid to do nothing. Think about the work queues back on Voorst. People would kill to be where you are.” Grader chimed in.

“You know what.” said Engbert, “I prefer not to think about that. I’ll keep living in my world, free from all the troubles, and you do what you do.”

“Have it your way man. Just know the Navy can toss out any one of us whenever they want and acquire an equally capable replacement. I suggest your sort yourself out - whatever you got going on.” said Godert, with a hint of finality to his tone.

“I’ll sort myself out whenever the Pirate King is caught.” Engbert had already turned, already headed off to his duty post, though sure to flip the bird amidst his departure.

So never.

Third Empire - The Decline

10,364 AE

"My master is the Emperor, and the Emperor alone."

-Lord Keretene

---
Events

Turmoil in the senate and in the galaxy, more specifically, the refusal of the senate to provide more material to the Stellarchs, and failure to stop Aokigahara’s rampage prompts a meeting of many of the Eastern Rim’s Stellarchs. The purpose of this meeting is unknown- but it can only be assumed there is a coalition of sorts in the works..

---

Perhaps to many’s surprise, Stellarch Rahn does not return to the capital world of Kaumai for his trial. Instead, his fleet remains active throughout the year, still acting against Aokigahara’s piracy. Perhaps motivated by the event, he begins to produce at least some results, and many pirate vessels are sunk or captured. Allegedly, The Horseman was even, albeit briefly, engaged in combat with Rahn’s own flagship.

---

Revolt in the West! Stellarch Keretene, master of a single, lowly planet and an Imperial Vice-Admiral, raises his banner against the open treachery of the Senate and his neighbour, the Stellarchy of Altaire. Keretene declares his one, true master to be Rän-ji, Emperor of the Galaxy and Lord of Kaumai, and he declares that not a moment shall pass without him resisting the Senate (and the Republicans) in every way possible, until the Emperor personally commands him to lay down his arms. In revolt with the Stellarch is the 20th Outer Rim Squadron, which he personally commands, and the 31st Legion, under Major-General Nikau.

---

No significant news of Lord Netana reaches the Senate this year. The only report, is that the resupply was successful on an unknown scale, and that Netana's weary resistance goes on.

---

Galactic food shortages continue on a major scale, as piracy savages the trade lanes, and neither local or Imperial forces can seem to stop the vicious series of raids that have expanded to cover the length and breadth of the Empire. (No NPC food available)

-----

Dominion of Badab

It is another year of military preparation in Badab, as they glower across the ancient border, eagerly awaiting a sign that their vigilance will pay off, that they may win glory against the Irik in the name of the Emperor.

The Directorate

The families of the Varan Directorate have become increasingly capable smugglers over the last number of years - a representative of a friend comes to them, requesting their services. (Discord)

5 Varan freighters are shot down this year, en route from Oberstein.

Despotate of Oberstein

Piracy ravages the deals Kruger has worked hard to secure - 50% of all credits gained from trade are lost in transit.

The attempts to resupply Karuna are rebuffed - one of Aokigahara's cruisers descends upon the little convoy, destroying two corvettes. The freighter and the shipment survives, but they are forced to flee back to Oberstein.

PLF cells in Oberstein have been all but overrun in the last few years, as the people turn violently against the Communists, and Kruger slowly works his PR magic, while his thugs arrange hits on local leadership.

Raetia

Lord Martok's victory over his kin is assured, but whispers reach his ears of distant relatives, asserting that his murderous coup gives them the right to rule over Raetia.

Lord Martok loses 2B in transit, as piracy continues to run unchecked.

Hungry Altaire

The start of the year sees a series of violent raids against Altaire and her shipping. While normally pirates would be to blame, these raiders instead proudly fly the banner of Keretene. Two heavy cruisers are reported in the vicinity. (-5000 Credits)

Altaire's recent subversion of Keretene in the Senate sees few of the smaller Stellarchs wishing to work with the province. Karuna, however, declares that he shall consider it. (Will sort it on Discord)

4 F and 2 B from Oberstein is lost to the rampages of Lord Keretene.

Grand Duchy of Alamar

A hard year for the Drydens, as their reputation is tarnished by the realities of Lord Albert's coming trial. While few Senators actually care about Porini Arapai's murder, most of the damage to Lord Albert's reputation - and, by extension, his father's - comes from the young Lord's declarations to the Senate, which have become widely publicised in the run-up to the trial. (-2 Influence)

Stellarchy of Matene

An industrious year for the purple people, as they make great inroads in the development of their national industry. In particular, a special kind of exotic good becomes available from Matene - a kind of purple 'sword' that finds great popularity amongst the ladies of high society. (+1 Exotic Goods a turn)

Holy Order of Hyperboreia

Little of note happens in the Order this year. In fact, life for the common cleric is so boring that the more blasphemous of their number have taken to calling it the Holy Order of HyperBOREia. (Lol get fucked hell)

House Matareka

Followed! Tyrone and Jamal choose Buath over the Lady Matareka and her nymphomaniac tendencies, but their queen has followed them to the planet's surface! They desert, rather than return to her retinue.

Matareka’s drive to establish more women's rights sees a mixed effect. On one hand, he does succeed in spreading the message, and many worlds see at least small marches or groups form advocating for such rights. On the other hand, undoing thousands of year of social norms is no easy task, and Matareka and his house faces much criticism for his part in the movement.

There is little progress made on the engines this year, and many involved with the project believe it to be a waste of resources.

7 Matareka freighters find themselves destroyed as they transport food from Oberstein.

Mandate of Vennendal

Another year of peace in Vennendal, as they escape the worst of the pirate raids, and begin to assert themselves as a competitor to the major shipbuilding corporations.

The Dominion of Badab

Actions:

Military:

Just a strong navy is not enough for the Dominion. A strong army is needed as well. As such a large investment is put into the planet of Marudon (56E) to turn part of the planet into a large recruitment ground for troops. As well as establishing the military-industrial complex on the planet neccesary for arming large amounts of troops.

4 Armories are built (30kC & 8B) (size 4)

A heavy cruiser is constructed ( 15kC, 4M & 4NP)

A cruiser is constructed (10kC, 3M & 3NP)

Total cost:

45kC, 7M & 8B  (7NP)

Civilian:

4 Heavy Industry is constructed on the planet of Yinaris. In order to help solve a pressing lack of Materials for the construction of both fleet based and ground based forces for the Dominion. The gateway must remain secure. (4B, 20kC) (Size: 16)

Food is exported to Orteau (10F)

Due to the fact that there is a large excess of fuel. A public offer is made.
Any merchant or enterprising civilian who wants to can buy a unit of Fuel for the cheap price of 1k per unit.

(10 Fuel available)

After a joke amongst populist senators that they needed a place of their own as well, what with the Tentiert and Dryden estates  being a spot for their respective groups as well. But in the end it turned out that it might be nice to actually have a place of their own. Though far more humble than those high class estates.

As such on a spot on the capital moon a humble bar is built. Large enough to accommodate about 40 or so guests at maximum capacity. The bar itself is to be styled after middle class bars that could be found on Kaumai itself. With entertainment like dart boards and pool tables and a small tv in the corner where 20 people can watch local sports.

Though in contrast to the usual bar, there are about 3 alcoves that can be used for private discussion as well. The intent is that the bar can be used for senators to talk and unwind after tense sessions in the senate (or take shelter). And for guests/represenatives from the lower class of Kaumai to have an easier time conversing with a smaller barrier between the senators and a familiar environment.

What the building lacks in rich decor and extrevegance it makes up for in security. With most funds being dedicated to hiring security to protect the populist senators. Whilst the excess building material is used to fortify the building against thing like car bombings or other vehicles trying to crash into it. Gas attacks and/or something else coming with great force from above. With the small, dirty cherry on top being a tunnel under one of the tables that can be used for the senators and high profile guests to escape the establishment.

The name of the Establishment, "The Pit”.

11,725kC & 1B

Total cost:

20kC, 4B, 10P

Still Fairly Hungry Altaire
(But hopefully not for much longer)

-Apparently, Lord Tarau has become immeasurably paranoid. His enormous estate receives considerable security upgrades, fortifications, and a score of new House Auxilla. The innermost chambers are completely reworked, and a detachment of his best, most loyal men are ever seen entering within. (-20,000C + 4B towards fortifying and securing Tarau’s personal estate)

-10,000 + 2M + 3NP towards a singular, stanky cruiser.

-More money is offered for artifacts but this time with a caveat! A sampling of unusual text is distributed with these offers, promising large rewards for items that sport them. (-20,000C)

-The rest, as you may have guessed, is vaulted.

Kingdom of Orteau

One of House Teniert’s most closely-guarded secrets is how many adjudicators they keep in their service. Nobody truly knows how much they cost, and such is the wealth of Orteau’s rulers that guesses range from thousands of the agents to mere dozens. The Tenierts have encouraged this sense of mystery: news stories are pulled whenever one shows himself, and they are said to mix the spies as sleepers into their regular organization. The people of Orteau are kept guessing lest they learn the truth: there are less than twenty adjudicators left in the ruling house’s service. Such is the grip the house has over their people that they have come to fear their own secret ministry more than rivals or revolutionaries, and so the force has withered to a tiny group, small enough that the head of house can know and manage them all individually. In this way, the line has been safe from all threats for centuries.

Of course, galactic ambition requires some risks.

In the year 10,364 Lord Adrien Teniert, acting ruler of Orteau, orders his brother Alain to begin overseeing a bold expansion of the secret ministry’s militant wing. No fewer than five thousand new adjudicators have been commissioned, to be recruited not on the basis of skill or strength, but loyalty alone. The augmentations will deal with the rest. The process takes place, as always, in absolute secrecy. In bunkers deep below Keep Teniert each recruit is all but flayed alive, their skin peeled back and their skulls pried apart, every inch of their body exposed and molded to their masters’ liking.

In doing this, Adrien has broken nearly a century of precedent - adjudicators are killers, disturbingly good at getting themselves closer to a man than his bodyguards. His father never liked to have too many around, and neither did his grandfather for that matter. But the galaxy is a vast place, and Orteau has made itself significantly more visible in recent years. In a world where threats no longer come from within, perhaps muscle isn’t such a bad thing to have.

MANDATE OF VENNENDAL

Senator Aalmers was bound home. After what the man had witnessed on the Senate floor, he found it prudent to return home and bring word in person to his stellarch, Lord Gerrit Elfering. As he peered through his diplomatic corvette’s porthole, ceaselessly gazing into the unknown, he couldn’t help but wonder had not yet fallen apart. The Emperor openly defiled the Assembly, no secret about it. Fortunately, Aalmers represented the interests of Vennendal in the Senate, whose Stellarch was a firm loyalist - and it was not him brought to his knees through sheer psykic might.

At last, his corvette completed it’s last hyperjump. As the light of a million stars flashed from view, he blinked, finding his corvette traveling at nominal subspace velocity.

The ship intercom flickered to life, with a relaxed though sultry voice declaring throughout the corvette, “This is your captain speaking. It is now 6:50 Voorst time. As I speak, we are now piercing Kysar-1’s Oort Cloud. If you’d have a look out your starboard windows, you may catch a glimpse of the Comet Sterre on its far pass…”

How oddly civilian, Aalmers thought. Surely this was but a jest on part of the captain. Afterall, his corvette was armed to the brim - guns and torpedoes all - doubtless a military vessel.

Regardless, Aalmers peered through the glass. As the captain had said, there indeed was the comet, ejecting a steady icy-blue twin-forked tail in its wake. Magnificent.

However, the ship didn’t stop for sightseeing. They pressed forward, and the comet gradually degraded from view, and the star of Voorst became ever more luminous as they drew toward the center of the system.

Disappointed, Aalmers heaved a sigh. For it was not his life to indulge in luxuries such as star-gazing, no. The Senator knew better, now taking the time to prepare his report to Lord Elfering, alongside a new naval bill that would see Vennendal rise to a naval powerhouse in the Eastern reaches – hopefully.

Third Empire - The Decline

10,366 AE

"I serve no Emperor, there is no God but Allah!"

-General Mujari ibn Joas

---
Events

At last, There is progress on Buath! Not gained through Imperial blood, however. General Matareka receives word during the start of summer that several sections of Buath, as well as even entire districts of Buathi cities, previously under brutal Irik occupation have risen in revolt! Using vast quantities of unregistered firearms, including heavy military equipment covertly smuggled in or captured! The leader of this widespread rebel movement, exiled General Mujari ibn Joas, has proclaimed no support for the Imperial forces currently embroiled on the planet, but rather for a fringe religious movement popular in Buath’s swathe of space. The general has also publicly broadcasted several graphic videos beheading Irik captains and other leaders.
--
As the Dread Pirate Sad Trees continues to grow in the scale and boldness of his attacks, the Stellarch Rahn becomes more and more proficient at engaging his fleet. The Horseman once more bursts from hiding, and attacks several prominent Imperial refueling stations across the Inner Rim. Having predicted such a maneuver, Rahn’s fleet engages the pirates, and delivers a crushing blow! Victory for the faithful!

--
More stuff might happen maybe I guess, idk ask sky

Dominion of Badab

The Pit, though strange to many of Kaumai’s usual residents, is made at the request of Parata’s senator. The establishment sees general use from the dwindling populists and their constituents. The security is noted to be a little on the heavier side, but one can never be too careful.

Raetia

The isolated Stellarchary Raetia continues to arm itself, the galaxy moves around it.

The Duchy of Alamar

With the trial of Lord Albert Dryden finally commencing, after much delay, there is little else on the mind’s of Alamar’s ruling class, as they eagerly await the results..

Still Hungry Altaire

Tarau’s estate is fortified immediately, and very extensively. Many are curious as to why the Stellarch would apparently lock himself up out of the blue, but many are too afraid to ask..

No genuine artifacts meeting the Stellarch’s criteria are brought in, but one can’t but be impressed at the sheer amount of laughable attempts many citizens make to fake such trinkets.

Mr. Green procures a single, coin sized, disc of steel “of relevance”, apparently liberated from a bum at one of his “client’s” establishments.  It surprisingly appears to be genuine enough, and the man demands payment, however, there seems to be nothing else very interesting or notable about it. (-10,000 C)

Stellarchy of Matene

Another year in Matene..

Kingdom of Orteau

Three freighters worth of food, and a single freighter full of luxury goods are captured or sunk by Aokigahara’s fleet.

Mandate of Vennendal

Another year in Vennendal, nice rp tho tank.

House Matareka

The Emperor graciously accepts Matareka's gift, a suit of power armor of incredible beauty, and incredible power!! Alhamduilliah! (+5 Influence with Emperor) (Sky might have more to add about this)

While many loyalists, especially, appreciate Matareka’s effort, his efforts to further women’s rights become more laughable! The thought of women fighting in the Imperial Army, especially when bodies are already dirt cheap, gains mockery from more than a few places, though the group takes itself quite seriously!

No progress is made on the engines this year.

Emirate of Kiratu

Kiratu makes its reappearance onto the political stage!!

In other news, the completely legal “blockade’ levied against the Emirate is completely lifted, on the condition they do not sell food for a cent below market price.

Dark winds, shadowed whispers. There are rumblings in Families’ dark underbelly – for what purpose, few know. As military production not only begins, but rapidly ramps up, New Vara becomes a hive of activity. From nothing three years ago, a fleet has appeared in the darkness above the smog-ridden planets of Vara – and in Serrano Yards, more are obviously on the way.

[SHIPMENT] – 10 Exotic Goods to the Core on twelve ships, two of them Gina’s Favorites. They carry food from the North Rim on the way back, stopping by Vaka to offload four such units. This is protected by two cruisers and two destroyers, led by the Admiral Reso recruited the previous year.

The Dominion of Badab

The planet Marudon.
It is a planet of very rocky disposition, having only a light atmosphere, and barely able to sustain life. With native flore and fauna being limited to a few mosses which manage to survive the solar radiation that passes through the atmosphere and the insects that eat them. Furthermore, the planet is heavy with seismic activity. The planet still being relatively young and thus ever shifting. Depending on day or night the temperature can shift immensely. Going from -43 degrees Celcius at night to 53 degrees celcius during the day.

The planet was almost inhospitable to life. But luckily (or unlucky depending on the person), the seismic activity and the core of the planet has made it a planet with a lot of fuel and it is easy to acces. Which is why the human colonists millenia ago decided to colonize it. Rather than making the rational decisions to stay the hell away from this planet. Amongst other things, Marudon is also known as being the origin of the mutation that has made a large part of the Dominion's population have a scale like hide. In order to adapt better to the constant low-level solar radiation and the shifting temperatures.

Thus, it was not an exaggeration to call it a hell hole. Where no man or women would ever wish to live.

Which is of course why the Ministry of Recruitment declared that the planet was the perfect training ground for military units.

And thus Kimo groaned, as he and the other two dozen officer cadets jogged through the sunny side of the planet. Sweat coming from his brows and body in the bucketfuls. As he panted and groaned but kept running. He could not help but look in envy at the 'scales’, those people of Badab who had long adapted to this climate. Who, still found it a bit of effort, but only as much as any other jog in relatively warm weather would be. At least he had the satisfaction of knowing how the scales shivered when they were out in the cold. As the containment suits were far more effective in heating than cooling.

It still did not help too much, as inside his suit the temperature was 40 degrees celcius, though outside the temperature was 52 degrees. He could not help but feel faint, his body swaying as he ran over the rocky terrain. But even then he could not let his attention slip. One careless moment would have one of the rocky spikes on the ground pierce through his boots. Or have him trip into a gully and break his toes. He had seen both things happen to some of his companions. Almost every day, Kimo cursed himself for deciding to join the military and voluntarily going to this hell hole. But, though the pain, soreness, exhaustion and frustration seemed constant. He knew he had to push through. He kept reminding himself that this made him tougher, more ready to face the Irik. But it remained just enough to not give up. Though to be fair, such was true of all the people that he knew here.

Finally, the drill sergeant said they could take a rest. Immediately Kimo leaned with his hands on his knees. Heavily panting as his sore moments got a moment of recovery. Though that, if anything, made the pain and soreness more noticeable. Which had been lost in the trance of the jogging and the heat. Then, he heard the cursed voice of the drill sergeant shouting through his comm (and very faintly from outside, even though they were only a meter away.)

"DO TWENTY PUSH UPS YOU MISERABLE WRETCHES !!! OR I WILL HAVE YOUR ASS HANDED TO YOU” And thus the unit of two dozen did twenty pushups.
In a temperate Gym, without a heavy suit to push up. An easy task, almost not a thought at all. But with the heavy atmospheric suit and the immensely high temperature. It was a feat that pushed the recruits to the brink. (At least the fully human ones. For the Scales it was only relatively hard task.)

Kimo counted his pushups, unaware of how effective his companions were doing. Just focused on one more pushup, just one more. And then, almost without realizing it, he hit twenty. And he immediately flopped fully onto the rocky ground. Breathing heavily whilst his muscles burned. Only vaguely hearing the sound of the sergeant shouting at him. Then he felt something pick him up under his arm pits and saw the sergeant shout.
"
AND STAY UP YOU SCUM !!! DON'T YOU DARE LAY DOWN AGAIN UNLESS YOU EXPECT NEVER TO GET UP AGAIN. UNDERSTOOD PRIVATE !!!

It was all he could do to say, in the midst of paning. "Ye- yes *pant* sergeant.” Then he stood there. And he once again heard the sound of the drill serageant to continue jogging.

And thus his torment continued, as he had to jog in this horrible climate. ANd as such, the first concious sign that he was not outside anymore was when he heard the hissing of an airlock. And the immediate cooling of the temperature. As he heard the sergeant command them to take a shower and remove their suit. Kimo removed his helmet and subsequently sat down on a bench. Staying there for almost a minute, even though he knew he should get into the showers to help his muscles relax. Then he felt a shove as he saw one of the scales looking up at him. One known as Oriki. Who snarled at him and said. "A  little excercise too hard for you, tyrant”. The scaled human then left, turning his back to Kimo. As if not acknowledging him as a threat. This made frustration and anger bloom in him, but he repressed it.

Then Kimo Parata, son of the Tyrant of Badab, groaned and removed his suit. And once again wondered why he ever decided to join up with the military.
