Third Empire - The Decline

10,369 AE

"Submit now- and I shall only take your ships, dreg."

-Erasmis, The Mind Bender

---
Events

While the Irik, led by Erasmis, have mostly ground to a halt, reports filter in of a portion of the invasion fleet moving to besiege the now fortress world of Vaka.

Aokigahara’s period of silence is suddenly broken. Via psykic communication, he announces to the galaxy that he will be aiding the Loyalist cause- and one of his fleets will be joining with Admiral Rakena. The Grand Admiral detects a sudden hyperspace jump, and before he can react, a pirate battlecruiser has somehow entered the system right beside him, cruising at full speed, it unleashes a single salvo of missiles and other ordinance before colliding with and destroying a loyalist battlecruiser in a brilliant explosion. Aokigahara makes no indication that he is cooperating with the Loyalists after such an action.

Whispers across the Eastern Rim of mysterious machinations. Apparently- something is at work, spearheaded by one of the many criminal empires.

On Buath, Mujari ibn Joas’ rebels continue to resist the Irik. Though they are greatly set back by the defeat of Imperial forces in space above, and on the ground, they retain control of one of Buath’s largest and recently most destroyed urban centers, Mekos.

The Directorate

New Vara marshals, at the fleet’s head, an ominous flagship.

The Grand Duchy of Aldemar

A loyalist victory over the traitor Admiral Pepe- perhaps there is still reason to believe in the loyalist cause.

The effect of these propaganda efforts is unclear.

Emirate of Kiritau

Kiritau is exempted from these inspections, through their “anonymous agents” and  by virtue of Raa being the Empress.

Whispers of Emperor Tuakeo planning to launch a campaign to relieve The Ring reaches Kiritauan ears.

Altaire

Die, gommunists

Dominon of Badab

All quiet in Badab

Vennendal

War stuff!

House Matareka

Those loyal to the Loyalist and Matarekan cause contribute from what reserves and surpluses they have. (+20 fuel).

No word on the progres of the engines.

Raetia

- 10368 & 10369 AE -

“I heard their pleas. I heard the news.” Martok calmly notes in attendance of Coro Mens and Torkrom. Raetia was ready for the war. Somewhat. But the decision had to be made now, Martok had to commit. On one hand it would be to “serve” a ruler he did neither know nor hold any love for, a dictator who held little regard for him. On the other he would be drawn to the corrupt and disgusting bureaucrats that call themselves democrats and eachother “equals”. Both sides filled with less than ideal companions, Martok’s only goal is power. As such, given the location of Raetia and the opportunity, he knew what side to choose.

The armies are rallied, the ships are fueled and manned, the commanders are assigned. Raetia goes to war in 10369 AE.

Emirate of Kiritau

10,369 AE

Spoiler

Declaration

I, Huka Hūkerikeri of the Kiritauan House of Lords hereby announce my ascendency to the throne of Kiritau.  Henceforth I shall be known as Sovereign Huka Hūkerikeri, Stellarch and Supreme Commander of the North for the 4th Empire.  The legitimacy once owed to emir and sheikh families is now dissolved, for the decaying trappings of the old empire must be burned away to make way for true emperor Tuakeo.  With Rän-Ji whoring out himself, the Empress, and the nation of Kiritau at the bidding of their new Irik overlords, Kiritau’s traditional government has grown corrupt beyond repair.  Further, Rän-Ji’s psykic perversion of our once-beloved leader, Auraki Raa, has led to her recent emotional, reckless, inefficient use of naval power.  The irrationality of our broken Raa was shown recently in her execution of 800,000 prisoners of war by airlocking above System 20B on a mere whim.  Such wasteful disposals of human life demonstrate Raa’s true motivation: the destruction of the human species on behalf of her Irik overlords.

Systems that are slow to swear allegiance to his highness Emperor Tuakeo will be brought back into the fold with utmost efficiency.

Signed this day of 13- 50- 10,369 A.E.,

 Sovereign Huka Hūkerikeri

A shipment of B arrives from loyalist space

Trade En Route:

10,000 C received for 4 P traded (at 2,500 C/unit) to Matareka

14,400 C (at 1200 C/unit) from Matareka for 12 F of fine meat coming from System 25B

2 BG are traded from Mukutā (23B) to the Core without the need for customs inspections

After two years of space travel from the Core, Raa re-enters Kiritauan space for the first time since becoming Empress. She boards Kiritau’s flagship, the Matriarch, to lead the loyalist defense of their western front. Embroiled in strategic meetings with her admirals, Raa finds much work to be done in regards to enemy troop movements and defensive planning. However, word reaches Raa that her primary military advisor, Harare Kekeno, has died over the course of a military coup. Two rising star generals take over Systems 3B and 5B, legions shining under their new planetary shields. Wedged between 3B and 5B, System 4B makes the strategic decision to surrender early to the leaders of the coup. A new line of propaganda begins spreading virally throughout the system, calling for revolution and the overthrow of Empress Raa.

The systems overtaken by the rogue generals happen to be not only highly defensible but also strategically valuable. All M and B production and storage on System 5B fall into the hands of the revolution. With the welcoming of 4B into the fold, an excess of 6 F gets completely wasted after satisfying the needs of the three worlds in revolt. A shiny sum of 32,000 new C get dumped into the coffers of the revolution from their local economy.

Raa’s loyalist bookkeepers examine their diminished new income due to the loss of those three worlds:

Were it not for the arriving shipment of B from loyalist space, Raa’s loyalists would have no access to B. However, with the M stores in the hands of the revolutionaries, loyalist shipyards lay silent.

In a bid to further increase the chemical control of Kiritau’s population, Raa converts one heavy industry and invests in 5 black industry on Mukutā. (-25,000 C, -5 B) Surely the increased C revenue will do something to help procure M from somewhere…

With the capture of systems 3B, 4B, and 5B, one foundry (4B) and one fuel depot (5B) are stripped from loyalist command and overtaken by the revolution.

A general’s end

Under the aetherlight of the two moons of 5B, the rhythmic tapping of a hard object could be heard. And under the fragmented light that shone past rocky edges of mountain 34 and that pierced through the thick layer of smog, an old man walked. The man had no hair left, beyond a small grey goatee and a mustache.

Harare Kekeno, most senior general of Kiritau coughed as he struggled up the stairs leading towards the planetary military Headquarters. To the side, the silhouette of an elevator shone, yet Harare resisted the temptation. Though he was not in his youth anymore, he would not bend to something as simple as a few stairs. And he had to keep some exercise, or so that obnoxious doctor told him.

Of course he ignored the part where the doctor said where not to strain himself too much. But what did that obnoxious young lad know, he was the master of his own body. He knew what was good for him, he did not need some young upstart to tell him that. Then, after several minutes of climbing and with a last heave, Harare crested over  the last step upwards.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Harare now walked the smooth floor, though he silently cursed the need for this meeting in the first place. One of his major generals had called the meeting after some recent into, major-general Kumakaia he thought it was. Something about signs of a possible invasion from the 4th empire. There was not too much info yet but it seemed to be semi-urgent.

He could have let it wait for the morning, but he had to show to his troops that he was willing to work hard as well. Which admittedly came easy to him, as he noticed he managed to get fewer hours of sleep as he grew older. Generally 6 hours a day.

After walking a few minutes longer, he finally reached the war room. A large room with in the center a large holo-table. Which could be used to simulate terrain, battle maps, show data etc. A useful tool for any strategist. Surrounding it were about a dozen chairs in which most of the senior strategists would usually sit.

As he walked through the sliding doors, he immediately noticed that the seat at the head of the holo-table, his standard seat, was now filled by someone else. It was a rotund man, with greyish/brown hair and a bald head. Who at the moment seemed to be casually filing his nails, whilst his feet were leaning on the strategy table. Which was otherwise filled with the standard officers.

Immediately,  a sense of dread and nervousness made themselves known. As Harare heard the sliding doors seal behind him with a loud sound. He turned around and saw that his ears had not deceived him, the sliding doors had been sealed, closed. Which meant that he was now alone in this room with the fat man and 11 of his own officers.

The fat man, who he now recognized to be one of the councillors of her Imperial Majesty and Sovereign of Kiritau Auraki Raa. Though he had trouble recalling the name of the man….. He thought it was one Hukakeri. Yeah that was the name, Hukakeri.

The man who usually dealt with nobles, but was now casually filing his nails in Harare’s headquarters. Now feeling anger rise in him, Harare loudly spoke up. Anger clearly evident in his voice. “”Hukakeri ! What are you doing in my military headquarters ?”

The aforementioned ‘Hukakeri’ rolls his eyes, before calmly replying. “I came here to respond to the most recent news.” “You mean the news of a possible invasion ?”

Now ’Hukakeri’ let out a disappointed sigh. Before responding with some slight annoyance in his voice. “I know you aren’t the brightest old man. But even you should be able to know that I am not here for any sign of invasion.”

Goosebumps spread around the body of Harare. Now fully realizing the implication.

Then, Hukakeri removed his feet from the table and said. “I am here because a tragedy  has occured.” He then folded his hands to his large chest and let out a shocked gasp. “General Harare has suffered a fatal stroke.”

You bastard.” Raw emotion was clear in Harare’s voice. Sadness, grief, panic and the feeling of betrayal. As Harare’s eyes began to cloud themselves. “You absolute bastard.”

Harare then looked at all the other officers in the room. Who were all completely silent. Just watching the exchange and not uttering a word. “And you lot ? Don’t you feel any shame. You traitors to Kiritau.”

Hukakeri then stood up out of his chair after a little effort and walked towards Harare. Simultaneously, two of the younger and burlier officers stood up besides Hukakeri and flanked him. Before heading to Harare and forcing him down on the ground.

Harere tried to struggle back, biting, clawing and pushing. But he was an old man and not able to resist against two younger and fitter men. He then saw how Hukakeri pulled from his pocket a small tablet. And began to speak again. “Have you ever heard of the Hahau plant ? No ? I thought not. It is a plant that is native to the eastern galaxy, not sure from where specifically, but that doesn’t matter. But what
does matter, is that it has a unique defense mechanism, which can cause those who eat the plant, to suffer from a fatal stroke.”

Hukakeri twirled the small white tablet in his hand.“In its native environment, it is only fatal to small animals. But with a basic distillation process, the poison can be removed from the planet and be made far more potent.”

Hukakeri then looked down at Harare. Cold eyes looking downwards, only barely perceptible from behind the large bulk of the man’s belly. As if they truly did not care for what he was about to do to the man. Even as Harare struggled and tried to move.

I am not sure how it tastes, I guess you will find out.”

Harare kept his mouth closed, teeth on each other. But then two new officers came and forced Harare’s mouth to open, and a small, cruel, joyful smile was on Huka’s face. As he said in a whimsical tone. “And here comes the train, chu…… chu……. Chu……..” then the white tablet went down Harare’s throat. He tried to choke and throw up but the thing was too small and he could not force himself to barf.

...And it’s Huka Hūkerikeri, you old fool,” spat the fat man.

Nothing happened immediately in the first minute, but then Harare started feeling numb, he heard the man speak once more but he could not understand what the disgusting man was saying. He tried to move his lips but felt himself unable to and he had a massive headache. Then his vision began to cloud and everything was darkness.

MANDATE OF VENNENDAL

“We are lost.” Admiral Hinrichs muttered, walking the length of his flag’s bridge, flicking off a data pad and handing it off to an attendant.

“Admiral, we are right on course.” chimed the navigational officer, taking a moment to peer over his computer interface.

“Not quite what I am referring to, son.” The Admiral strode towards the nav officer, who sat below the main observation gangway in an ops-pit, where all the technical staff and lower bridge officers toiled or oversaw their subordinates. The nav officer looked up, diminutive in comparison to the already tall and proud Admiral, clad in his pristine white service uniform.

“Sir?” the nav officer looked up, to which a lieutenant standing behind him raised a brow in inquiry.

“I’ll tell you.” the Admiral declared, though knew not how to express the feelings welling within him, “We have lost sight of what it means to be human – of what the Empire has stood for. It appears our Loyalist counterparts have allied themselves with the xenos. Yes, the fool Ran-ji, ever so desperate to cling on to his throne, has accepted the Irik into his ranks - in complete disregard for the human blood shed over the millennia to secure a galaxy of peace and stability for mankind. Henceforth, he has been declared an enemy of humanity and shall be subject to the punishment which it entails. I know it must pain you to hear this, as even my former colleagues, are now complicit in this treason. That is all.” the Admiral said, as the bridge staff around him grew ever conflicted in response. The Admiral swiped a hand and summoned a command chair, which mechanically rose from the floor. “We stand at the crux of a new era, gentlemen. Our forefathers watch over us with keen interest.”
