Anorum

Save for a few determined and proficient craftsmen who have spent their life studying their art or the peoples with histories with it, the name Anorum may be all but forgotten. It was not always this way; in the tales of old, some cultures speak of the ancient Descendants fighting off Iblees’ horde of Undead and Demons with weapons constructed of Glass - particularly some wealthier soldiers of Horen’s army or the warbands of Malin’s sons, and amongst many others including Urguans and Krug’s offspring, to a lesser extent, with it being particularly prominent when Iblees’ horde invaded the ancient Aegis long ago. In more modern times, some historical accounts from Norlanders of the Highlands mention the use of tinted Anorum to create ice-like weapons and armor.

Anorum was initially discovered out of desperation during a resource drought, as they searched for any material they could use to construct their much-needed weapons. The ancient descendants turned to searching the coasts and oceans and found caves of the smokey-white crystals, though it was never solved which of the four brother’s children found Anorum first, having connections to all four of the descendant’s history in some way. After Iblees’s war had ended, and with it – the demand for numerous resources, this caused Anorum gradually transformed into a luxurious material for more fortunate individuals to construct their armaments out of. Nevertheless, in our age most of the knowledge regarding its origins and use has been forgotten - While its name has lingered.

Raw

Raw Anorum is found exclusively in sea caves, typically in more temperate to tundra climates such as coastal coniferous forests. In its raw state, Anorum is large smokey-white crystals growing off the rocks of the sea cave’s walls. Due to its marine nature, Anorum can prove difficult to harvest if the prospector doesn’t account for rising tides, rogue waves, or any other dangers such as unexpected fauna potentially catching them in the process of extracting the resource. This being the primarily danger of Anorum harvesting, and what caused its rise as a luxury good post Iblees’s war, as Ferrum stocks were restored and the need to risk ones life became needless.

In its raw state, the crystals prove quite durable, mirroring that of the cave rock which surrounds it – yet, this is not the max of their potential of the crystals as, other than that, it is simply just some white crystals grown off some rock. Oddly enough, Anorum is rather abundant in comparison to other exotic minerals; this could be due to the dangers preventing mass-scale mining operations, or the simple lack of knowledge in regards to where its found.

Applications (Raw)
A miner would find his newly acquired raw Anorum has very few applications that are unique to the raw form. Until Anorum is refined, it is essentially just a heavy crystal and can be used for anything a typical crystal would be used for such as jewelry or ornaments. Though one should note that a single Anorum crystal is rather large, meaning one still needs to work and shape it prior to utilizing it in an ornament – seeing that a raw crystal is much too large and heavy to use practically in jewelry.

Red Lines (Raw)

Spoiler

Raw Anorum crystals are non-magnetic.

Raw Anorum crystals are rather poor conductors of electricity.

Raw Anorum is as heavy as a chunk of Iron ore of equivalent size.

Raw Anorum crystals are smoky and translucent in appearance.

While Anorrum is abundant should one bother to look, where it is found isn’t common knowledge.

However, its name isn’t completely lost, and it’s fine that a learned smith or jeweler may be familiar in name only and with the idea that it holds potential.

Harvesting Method
Upon stumbling into a sea cave with Anorum crystals present, one may assume from previous mining experience with crystals that they must chisel off the bountiful crystals of an Anorum hotspot. This would be incorrect, though luckily not detrimental to the mine safety, as they would find that the Anorum Crystals are rather durable, making the usage of chisel & hammers ineffective.

Extracting Anorum is rather simple; the hopeful miner is just required to break it off with a pick or similar tools of force to obtain their prize. This process can be rather lengthy due to the resistant nature of the crystal, meaning the miner must be precise, only adding to the true danger of unforeseen ocean-related incidents causing failure, or even worse: death.

A Raw Anorum chunk can be represented mechanically by white dye and has the following description with a player signature:

“A cluster of large, smokey-white, raw Anorum crystals brimming with lots of potential. It’s surprisingly heavy for its size, mirroring the weight of iron ore of equivalent size.”

Harvesting Red Lines

Spoiler

While the process is indeed simple, one shouldn’t assume their persona would know it immediately. Taking a chisel and hammer to an Anorum cluster would just result in a disappointed miner, as they’ll find that the chisel would be unable to break off the crystal, likely not having the sufficient force even with a hammer – likely damaging or warping the chisel, as you’re essentially beating it against a piece of rather durable rock.

Other negative consequences for doing the harvest process include: rising tides, causing the Miner to experience including but not limited to rapidly flowing water (waves), drowning if one fails to remove their heavy equipment such as armor or tools, and unexpected attacks from local fauna. All of these may cause injury and/or death to the prospector.

- A Refined Anorum Saber -

Description
Upon refinement, Anorum becomes almost transparent, losing most of the misty appearance it had in its raw state with the exception of armor. When Anorum is used to create armor, it takes on the same translucency as it did in its raw state, making see-through armor impossible.

Applications
As a material, Anorum exists to be used simply as an exotic alternative metal for a person, meaning it can be used to create the same myriad of creations as any other common metal such as Ferrum or Aurum. These goods could include the like of transparent weapons, jewelry, or in some cases of wealthier individuals, pieces of armor, however, it would all be for show, as refined Anorum is just as efficient and strong as Ferrum.

Though it can be worked with like a metal, Anorum is typically casted into mold of the desired shapes while it is still molten. This inspired ancient peoples to cast and tint Anorum for usage in works of art such as impressive mosaics that were as durable as Ferrum. Oddly, whenever armor is produced with Anorum, it tends to become translucent and smokey, much like the raw crystals it comes from.

Red Lines (Refined)

Spoiler

Anorum is equal to Ferrum in its strength, toughness, and weight. Anorum is intended to be an aesthetic difference, meaning it can be sharpened similarly as well.

Anorum weapons and armor are represented mechanically with their Iron equivalent; however, if it's tinted, the Anorum object can be represented by the tier of tool that closely resembles it (Gold for yellow, Diamond for blue, etc).

Armor cast from Anorum possesses a smokey translucency not unlike the raw form of Anorum crystals.

Items uitlizing refined Anorum need Player-Signing.

Refined Anorum is non-magnetic.

Anorum much like glass is a rather poor conductor of electricity.

Due to the unique properties of Anorum, being akin to both metal and crystals, Warforging may be used on Anorum Crystals.

Due to the unique properties of it, Anorum may be used in cojunction with Almari Effervescent Spring Water to make metal cloth out of Anorum, being largely translucent with an iridescent finish.

Due to the process of Metal cloth making, it would render the Anorum impractical for armor and weapons.

Expanding further, it could not be used to replace armor, as the metal cloth would struggle to be shaped into the complex shapes.

Anorum metal-cloth's iridescent finish would be obvious and easily seen. No invisible cloaks, one can easily notice them.

Anorum metal-cloth cannot be enchanted. And exists only for an aesthetic.

Refining

Luckily for the dedicated few who brave the elements of the sea to obtain raw Anorum, they’re granted a rather simplistic process for refinement.

Firstly, like any other ore, any excess cave stone must be chipped off (although with the harvesting method, it is unlikely that there will be much). Then the remaining crystals must be melted; Anorum begins to melt at 1,065°C: roughly the same as Aurum. The  molten Anorum can now be poured into a mold for the desired outcome, whether that be a weapon, armor, or an ingot for storage. However, it should be noted that you can beat a red-hot Anorum ingot as you would with Aurum if one was determined. Anorum seems to have very little trouble with sticking to molds, and will come out of the mold very easily. Lastly, when Anorum is cooled, it is possible to tint the creation, much like glass - expanding the possibilities if one wished to customize their Anorum craft.

Redlines of Refining

Spoiler

Anorum is able to be melted at roughly 1,065°C, turning into a molten translucent dull liquid that can be cast.

Anorum can be beaten as a red hot ingot, though you will likely have to cast into those ingots prior to working with it anyways.

To tint it, you must wait for it to cool completely, and then tint it as you would with glass. Any colour it is tinted with becomes somewhat muted from the original colour used, meaning nothing neon or obnoxiously bright.

Refined Anorum objects can be melted down again if it has been made unusable in its current state or if one is feeling particularly spiteful.

Purpose

Honestly, there isn’t an exact purpose for this material outside of adding additional fluff for weapons and armor - etc, which I feel is much needed, also semi inspired by stalhrim from the Elder Scrolls series. Though it can also be used to encourage role play and exploration in the coastal areas.
