Sea of Stars

[OOC thread + premise]

All around the world the news were covering today. On the 1st of January 2090, as per the mutually agreed UN directive, Ascension Day would take place. Ascension Day was the day when mankind would set off to the stars, away from the Sun, Mother Earth and the other planetary bodies of Sol. It was surprising that all major powers and factions agreed upon this decision not to venture forth earlier when they had the possibility to do so, but wait until every comitted party was ready. Now, on this day, all Frontier Class Colony Ships were fully fueled, its occupants ready and on board, goods and supplies secured, nothing and not a single person missing who is supposed to be part of this first great journey. Satellites and other ships circle about the quite substantial collection of vessels around the UNSS, the United Nations Space Station in orbit around Earth, which replaced the ISS sixty years earlier and has only grown ever since. Cameras from both ground and orbit are keeping a close eye on the substantial station where the colony ships wait close by, a few still docked. On the other hand, down on Earth in Geneva, Switzerland, a short but sturdy man steps forward to a podium. Abiral Ballabh Paudyal from Nepal, the current UN Secretary General prepared a speech for this day. A day that would make history.

“We are human. Today, from all corners of our beloved Mother Earth, we have assembled up high in the sky.” The man motions up to the ceiling, fittingly, above him a massive screen shows the UNSS, the colony ships and other assisting vessels. “Our goal.. our purpose, clear and defined. Mankind’s ascension. To the Sea of Stars, to find new planets, new species, animals and plants, new places people may call home. Our curiosity, our desire for knowledge, to understand the workings of the universe, as it came to be, has driven us forward to advance. Take the step further down the path. See what is around the corner. Beyond the next hill. Across the ocean. And now, beyond the confines of Sol.” He pauses, a stern but moved expression directed at the camera, his dark eyes glistening ever so slightly. “We do not know what awaits us out there. We prepared all we could. But at times like these we have to take risks. Risks that are not disimilar to what the crews of our first Mars Mission in 2024 had to take. Or the manned missions to Europa and Titan, 2030 and 2032. Always at the forefront were pioneers, adventurers, scientists, soldiers... but still, just people. Every person that came before us has left a mark in history, many unwritten, many forgotten, but their legacy lives on in us. From Homo Sapiens conquering Mother Earth and reaching all corners of our pearl we call home, to everyone’s parents. Legacies and histories that are intertwined on our, if I may quote, Pale Blue Dot. But this legacy does not end with us. We carry on the torch of our ancestors and are now on the verge of bringing it to the stars. Our ideas, our hope, peace, prosperity. In friendship to eachother or for what may be. For we are all human. Thank you.”

Albeit it being a somewhat short speech, the applause is present from the full seating of the UN general assembly. Up in orbit, the last colony ships have finished fueling up and were now moving into position, powering up their engines, prepared to set sail, to reach their desired destinations...

2090

This first year will be used to venture forth to one of the systems that are in feasible range of the Gandhi devices on the ships, to find a world and set foot on it. This decision lies with the commanders of each mission, as per UN resolution with consent of all member nations.

What follows is the return of special messenger satellites that undock from the Frontier Class Colony Ships to return to Earth and indicate where which colony was founded. Unfortunately, albeit the best efforts of all science teams on the world, there is currently no other method of communication that allows (almost) realtime contact.

Furthermore, once planetfall was made, all efforts should be focused towards establishing a self sustaining colony and prepare for further missions and instructions from Mother Earth and the UN. Unless of course, the commanders and leaders have other, additional goals.

2090

The United States Space Force, originally becoming its own branch separate from US Air Force Command on the 20th of December 2019 the branch was now only just 71 years in existence. The United States Space Force spent its birth years languishing in the throes of Congress, considered a wild and wasteful expenditure by a lunatic one term President many in government viewed the United States Space Force as but a ploy to distract from the real problems the nation felt and funnel off even more money into the silver lined pockets of politicians, for all intents and purposes the Space Force should have lived and died a short life and quick death. For one reason or another perhaps just the red tape of bureaucracy the United States Space Force struggled onwards however, while it remained the butt of many jokes having nothing  more to do with space than  operating communications satellites, the Space Force became a dumping ground for flag officers who had made enemies within United States Armed Forces, the career ender armed service had been dreadfully dubbed, retirement row as many who were transferred in quickly found themselves DD214 in hand and a bus ticket in another. This spiral of officers, enlisted and the force budget circled the drain year after year, It would not have lasted much longer if it had not been for General Samuel Mccarthy. Great Grandson of the disgraced senator Joseph Mccarthy, General Samuel Mccarthy Joined the United States Marine Corps in 2020 seeing action in the South China Sea Conflict of 2029, Samuel Mccarthy quickly rose through the ranks as a stellar officer and to many it seemed as though he would one day find himself at the head of the Corps. This vision however, was struck away painfully and  without warning when a United States Marine Unit based out of Twenty Nine Palms California which had engaged in drug trafficking began a shootout with California Highway Patrol and the ATF.  With thirty marines and forty five federal agents dead in Southern  California someone's head was to be presented on a silver platter  and it was none other than General Mccarthy commander of the base. Though publicly the Pentagon could not try and dismiss a popular man and war hero they decided to send him to ‘Retirement Row’ as the head  of the United States Space Force.

General Mccarthy found the Space Force in a truly sorry  state  when he arrived at the largest duty station in Fairbanks Alaska. Carelessness, lack of attention and sloppiness had turned the billion dollar facility into the equivalent of a southern Texas trailer park. Perturbed at his treatment by the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon General Mccarthy began an almost immediate systemic set of general orders to be passed down within the Space Force, within a week  all facilities were sparkling, the proverbial trains were running on time and over four thousand troublemaking soldiers and officers had been relieved of their duties. The United States Space Force finally got its first action during the Armstrong Crater Riots. The small detachment of Space Force Troopers that manned a communications outpost, who had been ordered to stand aside and await USMC reinforcements from Earth received private orders from General Mccarthy to engage the armed rioters which had  been holding the bases oxygen recycler hostage. The brief firefight and assault was played out live to the world as US Space Force Troopers stormed the rioters positions without a single casualty. Albeit basically trained soldiers versus civilians with a few rifles and handguns was nothing special, the spectacle played out on every television set in America suddenly solidified the Space Force in the eyes of many, The next session of Congress saw Joseph Mccarthy leverage the recent actions on the Moon with his own personal status as a war hero to achieve a record breaking budget for the Space Force, Although nowhere near the other services the Space Force would quickly begin operations to  establish off world presence and security in the solar system. It had never lost its stigma fully but when the time came for the first extrasolar expansion the Marine corps fought long and hard for the slot but ultimately the first extrasolar military force would be the Space Force....

______________________________________________________________________________

The ship shuddered slightly as the Gandhi device disengaged and a quiet fell over the crew which had for weeks been training and preparing. Edward Cole looked out over the  bridge to see the system ahead of him as several probes were discharged from the colony ships docking bay, shooting out the first scans of  the system he took a step backwards to the holo table behind him where the civilian administration team and other officers awaited him. “Alright people let's get to work, we should have our colony under preliminary setup procedures right away, I think it's no secret our primary candidate should be the moon in orbit of the gas  giant, It will provide a valuable starting point for our expansi-” Cole was  quickly cut off by his major annoyance in the mission so far, Civilian Administrator Nicole Saunders, the former Governor of Illinois immediately cut in to interrupt the Captain “I believe we shouldn't make these choices with too much haste. Why  have we ruled out the desert planet?”  Captain Cole blinked twice before finishing immediately “As I've stated several times Administrator, you are responsible for civilian matters. The location of the colony  has been officially granted to military command  as has the first two years of the mission. All evidence points to the moon being  our primary choice and that is where we are going to settle, if you have any concerns feel free to send a comm buoy back to Sol.” Having nipped the snarky administrators' useless commands right down Captain Cole Hit the button on the holo console to transfer the navigation data to  the helm of the ship, striding out of  the door to the command hallway outside he felt Commander Atkinson approach him from behind as the pair walked. “Two months of that woman and Im ready to toss her out of the ******* airlock.” Lara Atkinson quipped as the pair continued to walk along the corridor avoiding moving civilians and Space Force Troopers alike as they walked to the large hangar bay of the colony vessel, They arrived in the viewing area just in time as the hangar was being vacated by air and the large doors opened to reveal the gas giant that loomed next to the ship in orbit. “Just look at it” Cole remarks, hands on hips, the swirling blue and green gasses rippled throughout the atmosphere putting Jupiter or Saturn to shame. Atkinson remarked “It certainly is a lot different than Ganymede.”

Below the pair in the viewing room the expedition's Gunship with crew aboard deftly left the hangar venturing out and away from the bigger ship as it started its own engine to begin its patrols of their new home system.

The colonists of Pandora watched in awe as the large colony ship seared through the atmosphere lighting up the sky in an orange streak. Engineers had been hard at work clearing trees along an open plain near a coastal river delta for the large colony ship to touch down and begin to be disassembled into the colony's first structures. After several minutes the double sonic boom sounded from above the gathered people, large engines firing as the massive craft began to slow down gently moving over the open water before coming to a gentle touch down a small brush fire quickly being extinguished by approaching crewmen and technicians, The next weeks would see a flurry of activity, the ships reactor was cut out and lowered into a concrete cast on the ground and cables began to be laid out for the powering of the colony. Thousands of prefab shelters had been set up around the adhoc city and a large fence erected around the border as the colonies barracks, shipyard, extractor and storehouse prefabs began assembly around the grounds. Dirt paths were quickly graveled over and then paved over in the first month as the 12,000 colonists worked night and day to assemble their new home and within the first four months the colony ship had been wholly disassembled. Their first months successful Captain Cole sent the first comm buoy home indicating the colony was fully underway and ready for tasking if needed. Various groups had formed and sunny ways were upon the horizon for Pandora.

The surface of Nouveau Bordeaux, as seen from the FS Jacques Cartier; c. 2090.

The chemical thrusters of the FS Jacques Cartier burned brightly, propelling the colony ship steadily through the black Void. Their sister ship had split off, some hours ago- their mission to establish an outpost on the other end of the system. The Jacques Cartier, however, carried nearly 15,000 souls aboard, and whose hull would be deconstructed and used for the capital effort.

“Capitaine. Live feed for Epsilon Indi Ia is coming through, patching us in now.”

The transmission from the drone feeds fed right into the ship’s command and control terminal. The advanced imagery systems not only produced high definition video footage in real time, but various detailed overlays, with their deep-penetration surveillance sensors. It was for all to see; their destination, their new home, broadcasted across every monitor of the ship.

Simultaneously a feeling of breathlessness swept across the ship. Not because they were low on O2 and slowly asphyxiating or anything- but because they were taken back by the majesty that graced their eyes. A Gaia world- more than suitable to all forms of higher life. Crew chiefs, technicians, and civilians alike wept, for this planet served as a reminder of the great leaps undertaken by mankind. It would be another great chapter whose pages yearned to be detailed.

Some may say that this discovery was the culmination of all their efforts, but the work was merely just beginning.

Back on the bridge, various analysts and techs alike attempted to make sense of their readings.

“Atmospheric makeup: 78% Nitrogen, 28% Oxygen. Trace elements of…”

“Average surface of 14 degress Celsisus.”

“Deep-scan suggest planet is tectonically active, sir.”

“...Entering gravity well. Initiate Stage 1 Deceleration.”

For the first time in weeks, Captain Emmanuel Touchon smiled, relishing in the moment. All he had wanted ever was to serve his country. Never would he have guessed to have been bestowed the greatest honor in perhaps the history of mankind. On that surface, there was bounty, security, and prosperity. Not only that, but down there was their future.

Veerkamp-Bobel Industries - Building Better Worlds
Turn I, 2090

eQgYxnk.png
...Arrival. The ship shuttered as the reversers brought the VBI-designed colonial vessel to a gradual halt before the Wolf 359 system.

"Scanners away - results when you have them." said Montague in his usual austere tone. The younger members of the bridge crew could not help but find his lack of visible excitement tedious as the pristine sensor array performed its work. "Excellent work," he said almost as an afterthought as he turned about and made quick his escape to the coffee machine in the back of the conference room adjoining the bridge.

The trust of the VBI shareholders lay entirely in his hands here, at least the tactical and operational elements. Strategically, everything had to pass through the VBI board of affairs. And there was the Council, a ring of executives and experts in the various fields of colonization and research aboard ship which Montague had to answer to per the company's charter. Leader indeed, yet any major decisions would require a sit down session in this very conference room. And unless the sensors revealed a competent catering service somewhere in Wolf 359, only that coffee machine could help ease that kind of experience.

A knock on the conference room door, as Montague stoically poured himself a cup of coffee. "It opens!" He cried as he sat down, propping his legs on the table. In came the science officer, his eyes starting from his head. "Well, what is it?"

"Ah, well... there are three planets. Two are desert-like, Mr. Montague, and the third possesses a formidable degree of toxicity."

Montague's face hardened. The VBI executives were not going to like this.

The Hubble telescope seemed to be quite inaccurate at depicting nearby planetary systems properly as the Japanese ships arrived in Luyten’s star. Immediately ship based scans had discovered a planet akin to Earth with qualities perfect for human life. Courses were promptly plotted and within hours the company of marines landed and secured a proper landing site for the colony ship and as the mothership landed, the sunset casted a glimmer of hope on the fledgling military outpost and its citizens. The passage of time in the world was roughly similar to mankind’s ancestral home and seasons estimated to be the same as the months went by.

Without much incident the colony ship was disassembled over the year and its hull was turned into many buildings for the production and living space of the people. In fact, the gunship spent most of its time running supplies from orbit to other parts of the globe and patrolling the system. Japan had yet to declare Luyten’s star sovereign territory but the administration deemed it fit to deter any outsiders from settling in the system. Come the end of the year enough homes and work sites had been constructed to prepare the Japanese for future arrivals from the homeland.

A message had been sent back home stating that the program had deemed it fit to name the planet ‘Seiiki’.

Glorious City-State of Tian

2090, Year of the White Metal Dog

Ambiance

Vice Chairman Yao Yongzheng marched through the sweltering hallways of Tian’s upper barracks. He was a tall man, usually wearing a simple ceremonial PLA officers suit. The only ornament he allowed himself was the CMC V.P Pin, born proudly on his lapel. And one of the Central Party of course. With close cropped black hair, and brown eyes, he had a plain face millions of others bore. But it was the intensity in his eyes and towering stature that showed his power. For Chairman Yao was not one to trifle with. It was why now as he walked, Marines lined the hall in rigid attention while sweating profusely. Their bunks were all perfectly made, a trunk in the front containing their belongings. Surveying each man as he passed, his heart swelled with pride. For these men were all hand picked by him. There stood Colonel Qin Pengfei. A squat and muscular young man. He led the Space Marines, and internal security. They were the very best the Chairman could get for this voyage.

Back on earth before 2090, events leading up to launch had been certain in their hearts. China was a massive power, with trade and military bases spanning a good portion of the east. Many autocratic states, African nations, and others were quite friendly with the Republic. For they were willing to loan, and finance nations the democratic west may shun. Among hundreds of other glorious reasons, China was certainly a unrivaled jewel on Earth. And within the splendid central party, Yao Yongzheng was a respected cog. A appropriately communist and rigid figure, he followed closely to the creed of  Xi Jinping. Part of the Central Military Commission , he oversaw many different Armies and new projects. When word of the ability to travel to local sectors was announced, Yao quickly began lobbying. When China received her Gandhi device, he made sure he was in the headlines, claiming he would take China to the galaxy.

c0a39144fd385f90ed347b6ec5a67a5a.jpg

With his credentials and personal influence, the Party anointed him Vice Chairman. He would lead the Colony as a military expedition, to settle and fortify a lucrative Capitol. Tian would officially be a City-State currently under his martial law as they settled. But coming with him was a slightly resented members of the NPCSC. The civilian political oversight sent to represent the Chinese Central Committee from Earth. They would take care of Tian’s civilian elements, and ensure Chairman Yao did not overstep his boundaries. They also worked to maintain and dictate common Chinese policy and law from back on Earth. Chairman Xue Meihui headed this notorious people’s political committee. She ensured she had her hand in every business and decision. Both Yao and Xue had access to camera and facial identification set up on the colony just like any street in Beijing. China was intent on keeping as strict and tight of control as it did on earth.

Here within the colony everything down to the homes were strictly utilitarian. While others marveled at their worlds and systems, the bitter confines of theirs taunted him. The system is renamed Dìyù xìtǒng, and appropriate so. For the reason the majority of colonist suffered under stifling heat was all around them. The planet capitol named Tian was covered in Volcanoes, lava flow, unending rocky plains and plateaus. The planet’s surface was majestic in it’s massive splendor, an unending ocean of fire and pitted rock. The City-State of Tian, and the planet’s namesake, is staked on/under the middle of a massive plateau. All around it tectonic plates had shattered entire ridges of volcanoes and large mountains. The plateau itself was one of the safest scouted spots on the world. And still it was a hazardous and bleak life it seemed to the colonist. For the city was small, with no supplies, and unending heat and thirst.

But fear not! The Party tells their citizens. For a five year plan will rescue us all!

Emergence of QRSV Allah’s Will, ca. SOL 80 (E.D. – March 21st, 2090)

Spoiler

A sudden cessation of the Gandhi Drive’s propulsion brought a heaving shove to those on board Allah’s Will. It was a force strong enough to displace several of both the prepared, and a majority of inexperienced personnel from their seats only to leave them grasping at empty air as they drifted about their command stations within the vessel. It wasn’t the smoothest of introductions, but the crew and passengers were now face to face with the planet that would be their home.

Ya lahwi!” Exclaimed Emir Ayaan as the dull hum of the Gandhi Device faded and unexpectedly shut off, propelling the man against a nearby control panel. Expecting an explanation, he soon got one as the murmurs of confusion within the command deck dwindled, replaced by the collective crack of the speaker system throughout the vessel coming to life. The familiar voice of the automated PA system rang out, calling for the attention of all personnel aboard. “Make preparation for atmospheric entry. All passengers are encouraged to fasten their harnesses and place all items in designated storage compartments.” Ayaan sighed a breath of relief, awaiting the usual ending statement of ‘Our new world awaits!’ repeated after each announcement. Though there was no reassuring slogan for the utmost time. The absence of the phrase brought a calamity to the noble’s unyielding skepticism of the Indian-made device, indirectly giving him the news he had all been so desperate to hear; they had arrived at their new home.

Moments passed as the rumblings of lesser crew and ship personnel scrambled to their consoles, ensuring the preparation procedures were all thoroughly executed and reassured by teams under their command. A final go-ahead was given, prompting the Emir to come next to the man wearing the only bleached-white pressurized suit in the room, alerting him to his presence with a clasped hand on his shoulder. “Captain Ali, take us in.” Spoke Ayaan prior to moving to brace himself in his designated seat in similar fashion to those around him as well as throughout the entirety of the ship.

From his seat, Ayaan watched as the observation ports dissolved from the pale yellow glow of the nearby star, instead transitioning to a muted purple hue that shimmered into a furious orange, then settling on a crisp light cyan as the vessel entered the atmosphere of this new world. As the rattling of the vessel’s hull began to subside a collective cheer was heard from the rear compartments of the vessel as they had finally, and now truly, made it to their new home. Though there was still much work to be done, an equal number of eager bodies awaited to serve their purpose.

Harvest Expedition
Earth Calendar 2090

The USS Columbus and USS Darwin both had arrived in EZ Aquarii, as the vessels searched through the system they realized just how small and lacking the system truly was, passing by an asteroid belt they located two more orbital bodies. A Toxic and harsh world and a second..green and blue marble sharing a similar orbit to earth.

Even amongst the stars miracles still happen. Amongst the Governor and his advisors the destination for the USS Columbus was quickly determined and the vessel commenced it’s landing on the new world dubbed ‘Harvest’ in honor of the Expedition. The USS Darwin is kept in orbit and on standby until the Colony has another use for it. For now the colony was focused on preparing their new homeworld to sustain the large population that they carried onboard.

Within the year the Colony had been mainly established with proper storage facilities and extraction operations being brought into service. The first years of establishment would be the most important..

The Planet of Lyudigrad, or ‘the Peoples City.’

Yegor is a grizzly shaped individual. His beaten and veteran military uniform he wears at ll times spells out veteran, his beard, with several strains of gray accentuating it, gives him the look of a middle eastern Sheik, his skin color tanned from the hours his ancestors spent guardian his flock of goats along the slopes of the Hindu Kush, and his eyes blue like the ice in the Northsea. Yet, his followers did not seek to join him because of his looks, yet his tongue, which moved skillfully, orating poetry with every verse he speaks, captivating many lost and misguided beggars, shepherds, sheiks, librarians, soldiers, and more. A peek into the main holding area of the Frontier Class ship revealed a diverse lot of people, yet assembled for the same goal.

As the ship approached the beautiful blue and green swirl of an orb, levitating beautifully in the abyss of the space, every single person face is plastered against the glass, peering outwards, onto their beautiful planet. Many are hypnotized with its majesty, others cautiously examining the statistics and numbers lining up on the TV screens, relaying information on atmospheric composition, gravitational levels, the whole works. “Well within the Goldilocks zone we are.” remarks one tall, broad-shouldered comrade to another. Yegor was on the helm still, his icey blue eyes gripping onto the image of the planet. In his minds, visualizations of the Utopia he was placed under the administrative command of. “There are no bankers here,” he says, out loud to another one, in a similar circumstance as here. “There are no bankers, no lawyers, no doctors, no royals. The person with the most money in assets with us today had a mere 5,000 rubles, pocket change in comparison to the stores of gold the Westerners have. Yet, whilst they revel in their paintings and orygies on silk-laden bedsheets, feasting off of caviar stolen from the hands of a poor boy. We shall be the fathers of a new society.” He declares, rising from his post. “Abdul, send out the satellite with the transmission to Mama.” Abdul, a stereotypical Paki, hurriedly nods, finicking with buttons and switches on the interface of the ship.

The light jitter of the ship entering the Atmosphere of the planet results in the ecstatic celebration of the entire ship, yet not for long, as the Proletariat disembarked on their new Paradise.

Alternate Australian Flag, Sent To Ausflag : vexillology

2090 - Turn 1

Low power manoeuvring thrusters fired gently, as James Dundee peered out of the narrow viewport of the gunship, HMAVS Wallaby, as the great colony ship dubbed "New Sydney" slowly descended to the surface of New Sydney. The bright red and orange glare around the hull shone brightly in the reinforced glass, and Dundee shielded his eyes from the brightness. He turned around, and scratched Jim the Wallaby's ears, as he glanced around the small bridge crew. "Well boys" he declared, in his thick Melbourne drawl "take us on down."

The thrusters flared brighter, and HMAVS Wallaby followed the colony ship down towards New Sydney.

-Word is sent back to Australia and New Zealand - the military outpost of New Sydney is settled and secure. Commander Dundee therefore issues his recommendation that the facilities are operable for use by the Australian and New Zealand militaries, and calls for a second wave of colonial support. Furthermore, he declares operation of local shipyards to be now fully available to the national government.

The colony ship, Frontier V, was violently yanked out of warp speed. In the command center, a group of Mujahideen and their subordinates were thrown forward, tumbling over railings, across the floor, or into monitors. “Wa- 93=2-581203498fml;aksmv…. Prep- Fpoaopawk35980vvms…. In-foinfoaiwm...” one of the shoddily modified onboard computers announced, alerting the crew of their arrival at their destination. Throughout the ship’s interior, sparks flew and cables groaned as the power was gradually rerouted through the various systems.

“Aladeen, bring us down! Every moment I spend aboard this ship, I feel my bones weakening and my balls shrinking!” A commanding voice ordered, as its source climbed back onto his feet. A stout man with a thick beard, he was still dressed in the clothes he wore when overtaking the ship, with an out of date rifle slung across his chest, covered in arabic inscriptions.

Frontier V shuddered and creaked as pilots clambered to the helm, inputting movements into the system, and ignoring every protocol in existence.  Its thrusters engaged, and the marvel of modern engineering burned through the surface, and towards the planet’s atmosphere.

“Aladeen! You’re coming in too hot! Too hot!”

Events

Whenever one of the Colonial Ventures arrive at their destination and settle down for colonization, a messenger satellite is automatically dispatched from the Frontier Class Colony Ships, bringing the most important messages back to Mother Earth and the UN. Naturally, the discovery of several Earths, even including one utopian world, which the French expedition claims, brings fresh wind and high morale not only to all leaders on Earth, but all of mankind. The hope instilled to the people and the chance for a new life, away from the confines of Earth, drives the amount of applications for a colony spot up very high.

Currently of course, for the sake of protecting the people from themselves, in consensus with the national leaders, the UN retains a strict regulation of who may be considered viable and acceptable as a potential colonist. Skills in the fields of engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy and medicine are currently most desired. Already in foresight, with support from the various space agencies and member nations, the UN has prepared special passenger ships, that are solely meant to ferry New Colonists to their destinations. Strong contenders for these destinations are of course the Earth and Gaia class worlds. This of course, does not bar the individual nation states to send their own colonists on separate ways, but that must happen without sponsorship of the UN.

United States Space Force

The United States with NASA as their own agency are naturally well invested in the colonial venture. Needless to say, that is why they dedicate enough funding to acommodate two NCMs at the same time, one for the USSF and the other as the more civilian “Harvest” mission.

At the onset of the new year, news come from the US in form of a messenger satellite and a transport ship. The colony is tasked with the construction of a second shipyard, as well as three more gunships. The transport ship unloads 1,000 fresh faces, mostly military personnel with expertises in fields of engineering and construction, as well as 10 shipments worth of supplies (S).

Once the colony completes this task, a new one may be given. Subject to change at any time of course.

Département des Territoires d'Epsilon Indi

Following the success of the French NCM, congratulations come by messenger satellite not only from the Republic, but many European member countries. The ESA is eager to evaluate the lifeforms of the abtly named world of Nouvelle Bordeaux, whilst the interests of France appear more political.

Two transport ships arrive, unloading 4,000 fresh colonists from the Republic. It tasks the colony with building an embassy.

The ESA requests to be permitted to study the planet thoroughly, an ESA exploration ship arriving along with the transport vessels. If permission is granted, any successful research project will grant the colony 5,000 C in funding. If permission is denied, the colony will be granted 3 Influence.

Veerkamp-Bobel Industries

“Good work!” comes the first two words from Earth’s messenger satellite as it comes into communication range of the newly established colony. The company gives out a simple task. Establish fuel refining on Aspera and export at least 20 F to Earth. A transportship arrives, bringing 10 M as well as 1,000 new “colonists” (people from the street looking for a job, a few dozen of underpaid interns who were recruited away from the company’s floor printers).

The Contingency Program

Upon the divine wind,

the messenger sails forth,

bringing word from home,

as well as people.

The Japanese Emperor brings personal congratulations to the successful colonists, for them to discover such a beauty of a world. With vigor and high spirits, two (!) transport ships arrive, bringing 1,000 colonists, 10 M, 10 G, 10 F. The task is to claim two further worlds in the system they are in, construct an embassy on each of the worlds, as well as a research facility on one of them.

Tian

Whilst at first disappointed, the Chinese leadership at home soon came to realize the heavy industrial potential behind this new planet, without any issues regarding the environment to be considered. In order to make use of such a furious world, the Chinese send three transport ships of colonists, 6,000 in number, to help grow the world of Tian. The task is to export as many Goods, Supplies and as much Material as possible back to Earth over the coming years. For such, the colony ships stay behind, with one spare fuel cell in each, ready to make one return trip.

The UN itself declines to use the military facilities on Tian.

Qatar Aljadid

Due to the loss of the MESA sponsored Syrian colony, the islamic world looks towards Qatar Aljadid. The greetings from most leaders of the Middle East come along with the messenger satellite. Allah be praised, along comes a transport carrying 2,000 new colonists, as well as the task of building up a fleet of 10 ship units in order to protect the interests of their people.

The UN declines to use the shipyard of the colony.

Bundesrepublik Valis

Albeit the worlds being less than ideal, the German optimism can’t be hampered, specifically not by the scientific and industrial community of the nation. A transport ship arrives, with 1,000 colonists, as well as 10 M, giving the task to establish both entertainment resorts on both planets, as well as research facilities and prepare for the first research task.

Harvest Expedition

As the USSF colony is successful as well and given a more militaristic task, the Harvest Expedition gets ordered by the US government to focus on more civilian matters. For such the US sends two transportships that carry 3,000 colonists and 10 Material. The order is to establish enough facilities to produce 20 G per year and ship them to Earth. That means sufficient transport capacity has to be established as well. There will be further support shipments coming soon.

KOSMOSTAN

“Comrade. Your task is simple. Make enough jobs available for 50,000 new comrades. What type matters not.” comes the first line from the Russian president back on Earth. A transport ship arrives, hauling 20 M. Straightforward and to the point. Apparently there is something in the plans for Kosmostan. Needless to say, due to the economic crash of 2079, the country is still reeling, suffering under high unemployment. Perhaps pushing the more suitable unemployed people off to another world might be a viable course of action.

ANZOSC

“Congratulations are in order, mate. You did well!” are the first few words from the leaders of Australia nad New Zealand. What follows is a transportship with 2,000 new people to supplement the workforce of the new colony. “Now, the task is simple. For future ventures, the ASA needs fuel and another homeport. As such, New Sydney ought to house another shipyard, as well as five fuel refineries. And whilst we are at it, tourism is good, so get an entertainment resort up, if you haven’t already! Hell, I want to take a vacation where I am not getting drowned by bushfires or things that try to kill me!”

Nobody back on Earth had a clue. Now the mission is currently under thorough investigation to find the culprit, or the organization behind the lost ship, if it was a technical malfunction which caused the supposedly failsafe messenger satellite not to return, or if the ship crashed somewhere, was intercepted by an asteroid and so forth. It has become one of the agendas of the UN council, if UN resources shall be supplied to facilitate a search of the lost ship.

The New Rhodesian and Afrikaner Colony on Cygni [NRACC]

1920px-Flag_of_Rhodesia_(1968%E2%80%9319

2090

Simply put, Rhodesian anticipation of the event was far too great. Four million well to-do Rhodesians and Afrikaners clamored to climb aboard the first ship out; only 20,000 were selected. This, of course, meant that they had no building supplies to begin with, and therefore spent the first year hastily putting up construction yards, and completely ignoring the satellites and transmissions from Earth with the excuse “Low on resources. Currently executing contingency 3.14.”

The second transmission back to Earth, however, is a map of the system.

2091

As the first Earth-year passes, pictures from 61-Cygni are sent back home to eagerly anticipating families across Britain and the Netherlands. Babbling creeks, grassy knolls, blue skies – the planet is nearly identical to Earth from the imagery. The scientific readings show more – the majority of the planet is essentially similar to Earth’s temperate zones in terms of habitability, with somewhat humid, though bearable, weather, fairly temperate climes, and wide varieties of activity, both in terms of local flora – which appears to be in an evolutionary explosion, though no fauna have been encountered – and geological. The two Sun-like stars keep the planet in a 20-hour day 2-hour night cycle, which, while not for everyone, is certainly picturesque.

Then, a video comes over the feed. Happy White Afrikaner families, their children attending school in prim uniforms; vast fields beginning to be tilled for the first harvests beneath clean, smogless blue skies; the beginnings of a quaint townhouse-lined lane, each home with perfectly trimmed yards and hedges. Subtler, of course, is the fact that without fail, every single person shown in the message is pale-skinned and blonde or brunette. At its end, of course, is the message.

"Mission successful. Fellow Rhodesians and Afrikaners now able to come to the new motherland.”

The first mandate from the emperor had arrived at the start of 2091 and chief among them was the landing of more colonists and supplies. Within the month, over a couple within the month over a dozen newly produced plates of steel and electronics were being shipped over to the shipyard to produce a new mighty frontier class colony ship. Thanks to the environment of the planet, construction went fairly the same as it did back home so much of the processes could be followed allowing for great efficiency.

Legally the Contingency dispatches the two transports sent to the colony back home to pick up more Japanese colonists to build up the workforce. In the midst of their departure, some of the colonists they had brought were being trained into troopers. Much of their doctrine is borrowed from home and as is their arsenal, however they are the new leading class of soldiers now trained on another world from Earth.

Discussion is brought up within the administration about the arrival of an advisor from the homeland in 2092, a necessary addition to the rather nobody leadership currently running the colony.
