mateolog 1551 Popular Post Share Posted October 26, 2020 There is love I reminisce, like a seed, I have never sown. Of walls I am yet to see, and of a past that is not my own. Cloth that wrap around the wrist, and arms, that feel like home. I wonder how it is I miss these things; I have never known? CHAPTER I -The Pebbles of the avalanche. Any dwarf that has ever picked up a book knows what the confederation of Hammers was. A grand Confederation of dwarven peoples united in the idea that even if apart and/or culturally different we are still brother and sisters, children of Urguan, and creations of Yemekar. Many indicate the start of the confederation of Hammers in 1645, and they are not wrong. However, the puzzle pieces of the Confederation had been coming together long before. To see the start of our story we need to go back in time to Vailor. ᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱ ᚲᛁᛚᛚᛊ ᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱ ᚦᛖ ᛒᚱᚨᚦᛗᛟᚱᛞᚨᚲᛁᚾ ᚹᛖᛖᛈ [!] Depiction of Skippy Irongut during the first Frostbeard Rebellionᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱ ᚲᛁᛚᛚᛊ ᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱ ᚦᛖ ᛒᚱᚨᚦᛗᛟᚱᛞᚨᚲᛁᚾ ᚹᛖᛖᛈ Surprisingly the stone that created the first spark that ended up being the flame of the confederation was Verthaik Frostbeard. A dwarf forgotten to time, supplanted by his son (Kerwyr Frostbeard) in the chronicles of history. Verthaik Frostbeard was the first and last king of the Mountain Monarchy, a movement created out of the need for the ability to self-govern, the right to self-determination. Sadly, for him his supposed righteous rebellion did not last long just two years after its foundation in 1518 the rebel forces of Verthaik were slaughtered by another formidable dwarf; Grand King Skippy Irongut. Skippy according to the histories was like many other dwarves, a centralist. One that believed that power should be exercised from the top down in the form of centralizing regulations. When these two dwarves ran for Grand King problems were meant to happen, one was going to win, one was going to lose. Such has been the way for the dwarven people for generations. But the Confederation of Hammers was founded on agreements and concessions, that is what a friend of both Verthaik and Skippy learned from them. This friend was the dwarf known back then as Baldin “Ironside” Frostbeard, the one who found a middle way between both ideologies. This middle way’s religious aspect was passed down to a young ginger beardling of the Grandaxe clan during Axios, Grilthram son of Grimherst Grandaxe and brother of Grimrodd. Together they would claim the highest points of Kal’Omith and ask the Brathmordakin for guidance. While Grilthram was off learning about the world’s deepest secrets, his brother Grimrodd was focused on becoming a great general of Urguan, and Grandaxe heroes like Thorik Grandaxe who led the dwarves during the great war in 1336 setting up the Legion as the world’s finest military force at the time. Every day the two brothers would discuss their plans for the future, their dreams, hopes. Grilthram would bore his brothers by telling him of old tales of great dwarven warriors like; Throri Frostbeard, a survivor of Krag’s battlements (and later a member of the confederation), joined his mentor and friend Baldin to create the bearguard, with the objective to protect the Frostbeard Clan Father. A duty that Throri passed down to his son Edel Frostbeard. These dwarves linked by chance would have a bleak future ahead of them. ᛟᚾᛖ ᚹᛁᛚᛚ ᚨᛚᚹᚨᛁᛊ ᚠᛁᚷᚺᛏ ᚠᛟᚱ ᚦᛖ ᚠᚱᛖᛖᛞᛟᛗ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖᛁᚱ ᛟᚹᚾ [!] Depiction of the last charge of Verthaik Frostbeardᛟᚾᛖ ᚹᛁᛚᛚ ᚨᛚᚹᚨᛁᛊ ᚠᛁᚷᚺᛏ ᚠᛟᚱ ᚦᛖ ᚠᚱᛖᛖᛞᛟᛗ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖᛁᚱ ᛟᚹᚾ The senate slaughter of 1612 placed Baldin and the two brothers were in an impossible position. Grilthram stood on the table and ordered Kerwyr to remove himself from the throne of the king, Kerwyr refused. In context and with the gift of looking back we can read what happened after this in multiple sources. They all agree for the most part that Kerwyr’s attitude and daringness to sit on the throne of the recently dead King Bastion Ireheart, brought a dark period which only started to end when the Confederation of Hammer and the Kingdom of Bogrin, however, the direct attack on Kerwyr at the hands of Hogarth Irongut did not lower tensions. In addition to acknowledging the carnage of the dwarven leaders and their allies by the Frostbeard clan. Of those in the meeting that were not Frostbeard only one was saved by the grace of Belka; the young Grilthram. At the darkest moment, when the ginger dwarf saw no way to resist the Frostbeards he realized he had to retreat, everyone else died. When he reached the gate, he saw a Frostbeard guard there, fate had proclaimed they would meet again, and this interaction would change the result of the conflict. Throri allowed the young dwarf to pass, recognizing him as one of the lads Baldin thought about the Brathmordakin. If Grilthram had not jumped out of the senate window that dreadful day, and Throri Frostbeard had not allowed him to pass Urguan would have lost the Second Frostbeard rebellion before it began. When Grimrodd heard about the news from his brother he shed a tear. The image of multiple dwarves killing each other without mercy felt countered what the great heroics and the dwarven faith said a dwarf was. It is possible that even the Brathmordakin cried that day. I cannot imagine what I would feel if my children started killing each other, but that is what Urguan felt, and that was what Yemekar felt. ᚲᚨᚱᚱᛁᛁᛜ ᚦᛖ ᛚᛁᚷᚺᛏ ᛟᚠ ᛁᛖᛗᛖᚲᚨᚱ [!] Depiction of an injured Grilthram resting after escaping Kal’Omithᚲᚨᚱᚱᛁᛁᛜ ᚦᛖ ᛚᛁᚷᚺᛏ ᛟᚠ ᛁᛖᛗᛖᚲᚨᚱ Kerwyr ‘the Usurper’ Frostbeard driven to madness by the loss of his daughter became more and more delusional. Claims of purifying the dwarven race were said, New Frostbeard chauvinistic thought passed as knowledge and wisdom, placing the groundworks for the creation of Kaz’Ulrah. A name that is claimed to come from the Frostbeard son of Urguan, however, due to the decades of Frostbeard indorsed historical propaganda it has been impossible to this day to check the veracity of this claim to be true, or if Kazulrah was just an embellishment of Karl ‘Orcslayer’ Frostbeard. What we do know is that during that time, and like many other grandaxes, Grilthram and Grimrodd wondered what would happen now. They were loyal servants of Urguan, but there was no capital. Grilthram went to the flying city of Arcadia, where the Irongrinders resided back then. There he was taught runesmithing and remained safe from the world below. His brother Grimrodd went to search for the history of their people. However, to do this he would have to contact the only Grandaxes that were accessible at the time; the Blackaxes. ᚦᛖ ᛗᚨᚷᛁᚲ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚱᚢᚾᛖᛊ ᚺᚨᛊ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛊᛏᛟᛚᛖᚾ ᛒᛁ ᛖᛚᚢᛖᛊ [!] Artistic rendering of Arcadia ᚦᛖ ᛗᚨᚷᛁᚲ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚱᚢᚾᛖᛊ ᚺᚨᛊ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛊᛏᛟᛚᛖᚾ ᛒᛁ ᛖᛚᚢᛖᛊ During this time a persecution of ‘impure’ dwarves started, it was mainly directed towards the Doomforged, a clan well known in Urguan. Doomforged were known to be descendants from paragon and a dark elf maiden, but the connection they shared to the paragon was not enough to stop the Frostbeards from hunting them down. Similarly, other dwarven minorities like the Stormfists and forest dwarves of the time also felt the Frostbeard bloodlust. It was said that their deaths were slow and painful. I cannot bear to think about all the awful things they would have inflicted upon these poor souls. But it seemed that the more extreme the Frostbeards became the more dwarves rallied to join them. It was a time of drastic cultural and social change in the eyes of many dwarves whose dreams were crushed at one point or another by Urguan’s system. ᛟᚾᛖ ᛊᛈᛁᛚᛚᛊ ᚺᛁᛊ ᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱᛊ ᛒᛚᛟᛟᛞ [!] Depiction of an attempted escape of captured ‘impure’ dwarves. ᛟᚾᛖ ᛊᛈᛁᛚᛚᛊ ᚺᛁᛊ ᛒᚱᛟᚦᛖᚱᛊ ᛒᛚᛟᛟᛞ The divisive words coming from Kerwyr’s mouth did not ring well with Grilthram’s old spiritual friend Baldin. At this point Baldin was both the warden of the dwarven capital of Kal’Omith and at the same time the High Prophet of ‘the true faith of the Brathmordakin’ a predecessor to the Kaz’Ulrah clergy; Ar Yemarin Anaros (Clergy of the True Faith). Throri who was now Captain of the Bearguard remained loyal to the new Frostbeard King for all the war all the way up to its end, Throri guarded the Capital from the Grand Kingdom of Urguan's soldiers and guarded Baldin. According to record Baldin did not seem pleased that his fellow Frostbeards were raiding dwarven towns and the attempted extermination of the Doomforged clan did not sit well with him. Considering that he was their religious leader it makes sense that such worries crossed his mind, even though the slaughter of the Senate was already a red flag. For this reason, he accepted an invitation he received to go meet the religious heads of the different dwarven groups. There they discussed solutions to their problems, and even contacted Wyrvun the Aegul thanks to Zahrer Irongrinder’s stone of Wyrvun. Which, if the stories are correct can create a portal to be able to speak and see Wyrvun. ᛚᛟᚱᛞ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᛞᛖᛖᛈ ᚲᛟᛚᛞ [!] A Confederate depiction of Baldin’s encounter with Wyrvun.ᛚᛟᚱᛞ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᛞᛖᛖᛈ ᚲᛟᛚᛞ The great being seemed tired yet humble and polite towards those gathered, he was still recovering from his great defeat so long ago. Wyrvun had a one on one conversation with Baldin, and he stated that he had to be responsible to end the war, Baldin was the warden and only he could bring a bloodless end to the war. With the chance of being able to guarantee the wellbeing of Kerwyr who was the son of his friend, and his spiritual companions Grilthram Baldin accepted and that night he took a small army of Urguan loyalists such as Gror and Grimrodd, to the gates of Kal’Omith returning it to Urguan once Throri’s garrison were restrained. In the abandoned city Baldin found an orphan beardling who he adopted and named Kerwyr II Frostbeard. The name was picked before Gror Ireheart backed by the powers of the capital forced the Frostbeards to submit to the rightful dwarven government and to execute their Clan Father and King, Kerwyr. The fallen king was swiftly disposed of by his own kin. His son Verthaik II became clan father after him. When Baldin came to offer his condolences to the beardling Clan Father he found out that his clan had exiled him, and declared that his deeds will be forgotten, and his children whipped out. Baldin was able to return to the capital, where he got a home and remained. On his last encounter with Verthaik II he would lose an arm defending the now Grand King Gror from an attempted assassination at the hands of the Frostbeards. ᚲᛁᛜ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚠᛟᚱᛊᚨᚲᛖᚾ [!] Verthaik II Frostbeard, Youngest Clan father of the Frostbeards.ᚲᛁᛜ ᛟᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚠᛟᚱᛊᚨᚲᛖᚾ A few years later Zahrer Irongrinder became the new Grandking King. The rise to prominence of the Irongrinders was questioned by multiple Mountain Dwarves, and especially the Frostbeards. They were able to leave Urguan to resettle their old hold. Baldin saw how the Grand King was failing in his obligations, but there was nothing he could do, he was stripped of all titles and his work unrecognized by his contemporaries. He was condemned to watch as the Frostbeards declared their inevitable fourth and so far, last rebellion. Kerwyr II was sent by his father to New Jornheim, the home of the Frostbeards, where he would at least be able to at least survive. There he met Edel Frostbeards and they became close associates in planning out the future for their people. Sadly, young dwarves in a time of ever escalating tensions, where their dwarven elders did not have the power of spirit nor the power of mind to be able to reach peace for all dwarves, blood and steel would be their only companions. Verthaik II demanded that Kerwyr II should kill his father Baldin, an act that would redeem the orphan dwarf in the eyes of the Frostbeard Monarch. There are documents that say that Kerwyr did kill Baldin, but the fact that I, the author of this document was born to Baldin after this time makes me believe it is a historical error, sadly not the first nor last in this story. What we do know is that around that time Kerwyr and Edel joined Throri’s new clan of the Stonemaces after the father of Edel was exiled from the Frostbeard clan. A clan of Frostbeards rejects, that was what the Stonemace clan was. The clan did not last long, Edel was a passionate dwarf with great hunger for respect and admiration. Edel and Kerwyr were both made Elders by the Clan Father Throri, as is common to see among some small clans. Once Edel became an elder he knew what he had to do. He saw he father as an incompetent and cowardly dwarf, not fit for any sort of leadership. At first Edel tried to get rid of his father by honor dueling him on questionable grounds. They both got badly injured in the duel, but neither could kill the other. Because of this Edel had another plan. He went to Kerwyr and proposed they remove the clan father through a clan council. When Kerwyr asked why he would do that, Edel offered Kerwyr the ability to model the Stonemaces alongside him. Kerwyr did not make much of it at first, but after a minute he could see how he could use this artificial clan as a tool to unite outcasts, in a similar way as he had united war orphans he found under the Steelheart bloodline. With the two beardlings in agreement they confronted Throri and after a Stonemace council they removed Throri from his position making Edel Stonemace the new clan father. The youngest clan father of a clan since Verthaik II. In an act of malice to spite his father Edel vanished him from the clan, and then he changed the name of the clan from Stonemace to Silvervein. He ordered Kerwyr to write some things to explain the deeper meanings of being a silvervein so that it could attract as many outcasts as possible. Kerwyr did not like these actions, and he did not like being ordered by anyone, but he constructed the cultural skeleton of the clan. A clan that would gather the few so that they become the many. With new dwarves arriving every day to join the lines of the Silverveins, Kerwyr was proud of what they had achieved. However, Edel was not satisfied in amassing potential soldiers for his cause. He also wanted to amass wealth, but not like any other dwarf. Edel got involved in the Kaz’Ulrah slave trade of halflings. He ordered his men to capture as many as possible and then locked them up in cages. His Frostbeard superiors such as their King Verthaik II were aware of Edel’s doing as according to the documents it usually happened in broad daylight in public areas. This brainwashing of the masses was not something Kerwyr accepted, and in fact he denounced Edel’s actions and left to continue taking care of his Steelheart children. One of these was Gimli ‘Metalfist’ Silvervein, and Thumril Silvervein. Both dwarves who would go on to achieve great things in their later years. ᚺᛖᚨᚱᛏᛊ ᛟᚠ ᛊᛏᛖᛖᛚ [!] Depiction of Silvervein Steelhearts enjoying victory after a battle.ᚺᛖᚨᚱᛏᛊ ᛟᚠ ᛊᛏᛖᛖᛚ The end of Urguan was not honorable, nor bloody, just quiet. Urguan’s armies were weak and faced with that realization their King decided to flee leaving the bones of Urguan to the newly formed Kaz’Ulrah. With the fall of Urguan and the promise of a home to all the dwarven kind multiple dwarves returned. The Frostbeard intolerance to Doomforged decreased, meaning some were able to live their lives there. In this same hope, the Stormfist clan returned to dwarven lands. Their presence there was barely tolerated but Verthaik II allowed them to stay and gave them a hall. The leader of this clan was Boreas Stormfist. Boreas found himself at odds with the clan Father of the Silverveins, Edel. Edel’s clan had grown to unprecedented amounts made up of every type of individual that could not find another clan to go to. What the Silverveins did not have was respect. They were just a clan made by Throri who Kaz’Ulrah saw as a fool, a disgraceful dwarf. For this reason, the silverveins were not given a hall, so Edel Silvervein decided to take it by force. Edel took a handful of men and went to the clan hall of the Stormfists. Their hall was quite alien to the Silvervein, telescopes, jacuzzis, and Wyrvun, were not familiar to them, even less familiar was Boreas, a dwarf with pointy ears, snowy hair, and marble colored skin. But nonetheless they were going to take it, they marched up to the throne of the clan father to see Boreas sitting there sipping his wine as he observed the Silverveins while they drew their blades. Boreas chuckled nervously at the intruders. Most dwarves would have cursed Edel and his folk for invading their home and drawing their blades, but that was not Boreas’ way. He slowly stood up and offered Edel and his kin drinks and food. As they feasted in the Stormfist Hall Boreas is said to have talked to Edel and made him the most peculiar of offers. The odd dwarf asked him if he would be willing to merge clans with him. The Silvervein name will remain, but the clan structure of the Stormfist will be the official clan structure and the Cultural clan elements will be mainly overtaken by what was the Stormfist’s culture. Edel thinking his actions through and remembering the implications of killing a fellow dwarf accepted the offer and could be the first clan father of the new Silvervein Clan. While this union was being cemented the brothers Grilthram and Grimrodd returned to the only place they could go, Kaz’Ulrah. ᚲᛟᚢᚱᚨᚷᛖ ᛟᚠ ᚠᛁᚱᛖ [!] Grilthram and Grimrodd leading the Blackaxes.ᚲᛟᚢᚱᚨᚷᛖ ᛟᚠ ᚠᛁᚱᛖ The two brothers were uncertain if they would be welcomed. Armakak smiled upon them that day as the warden and clan father of the Frostbeards Hamnil was thinking of bringing back the numbers of the Blackaxe clan. Hamnil offered them all the titles of the Blackaxe clan and a hall. Grilthram and Grimrodd, not having had a proper home in years decided to accept the Frostbeards offer. Grilthram became the clan father of the Blackaxe clan, and together with his brother they were able to breathe life back into the clan. The clan prospered for a while but soon they would realize that this was not Urguan, and that the one possessing the power was the King’s will not the law. This would become apparent when a decrepit dwarf was brought by the Frostbeards. It seemed that the dwarf was a Blackaxe friend of the king’s father and so Verthaik decided to grant the clan to him, taking all the work the brothers did and handing it over to the old dwarf. Destroyed by this action the brothers left Kaz’Ulrah and set up a colony close to another settlement called Curon. The brothers built their new hall and created their new clan, they called it the Hammerforge clan. Many dwarves of Grandaxe descent came to them as they had nowhere else to go. Together they formed a strong and united community based around their clan. However, Baldin the son of Renlak Grandaxe and Tulip Frostbeard was never seen again until the end until late Atlas after many rumors of his death had long roamed the land. but the story of Grilthram Hammerforge and Grimrodd Hammerforge, As well as the one of the children of Kerwyr II Silvervein and Edel Silvervein, had just begun. The flint and steel had collided, and the sparks to ignite a fire of hope for the future had been made. ᚲᛟᚾᚠᛖᛞᛖᚱᚨᛏᛟᚾ ᚠᛟᚱ ᛚᛁᚠᛖ ᛒᛟᛁ [!] Depiction of the Hammerforge clan training its militia.ᚲᛟᚾᚠᛖᛞᛖᚱᚨᛏᛟᚾ ᚠᛟᚱ ᛚᛁᚠᛖ ᛒᛟᛁ -Chapter 2- Founders’ Founding The new age for the Hammerforges was cemented when the two brothers and founders of the clan Grilthram and Grimrodd Hammerforge forged the greatest weapon of their clan, the Hammer of Azgaraz. Records of the Hammerforge clan state that the weapon was infused with mighty rune magic that would obliterate any mortal that stood in its path. So mighty indeed was this weapon that the Hammerforges preferred not to use it, as the damage done onto the enemy would be devastating. A way of thinking that reflects the wise wanderer's especially when compared to one of his statements “Many that live, deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.” A characteristic that would influence the future of the Confederation of Hammer’s policy. ᚺᛖᛚᛚᛟ ᛁᛏᛊ ᛗᛖ [!] Throri’s pardoned by the Confederation and whitepeakᚺᛖᛚᛚᛟ ᛁᛏᛊ ᛗᛖ After a couple of years Kaz’Ulrah started to roll back into its old ways. The worship of Wyrvun once revered by the Frostbeards was now banned, which allowed the dwarves of Kaz’Ulrah to hunt down Stormfists as a sport. At the time the Clan Father of the Silverveins was the Stormfist Boreas, who demanded for the king Verthaik II to allow him to honor duel Hamnil Frostbeard to the death for the murder of his kin. Verthaik approved but only if Hamnil was willing to fight, which he was not. He rejected the proposal and continued to kill indiscriminately, Frostbeards were the law on Kaz’Ulrah. After months of being unable to stop the slaughter of his kind Boreas was found beheaded in the clan Hall of the Frostbeards. This caused for split between the Silverveins and the Stormfists, many of the later blamed the death of the Clan Father on Ede, who did not act against the Frostbeards. Funny enough when the Stormfists were hunted out of Kaz’Ulrah the Frostbeards found a new clan to torment; the Silverveins. It seems like there was a sadistic pleasure when it came to the Frostbeards and inflicting pain on others, they found the worst ways possible to mess with the heads of the Silvervein clan fathers. One of the things they did was bring back Throri and grant him ownership of the Stonemace clan, an act that angered Kerwyr and annoyed Norkai, as the Stonemace clan is the Silvervein clan. However, before the two silverveins could confront the king as he would soon after being assassinated. ᛊᛟᛗᛖᚦᛁᛜ ᛊᛟᛗᛖᚦᛁᛜ [!] A Halfling’s depiction of a Kaz’Ulrah raiding party.ᛊᛟᛗᛖᚦᛁᛜ ᛊᛟᛗᛖᚦᛁᛜ Kaz’Ulrah was a hereditary monarchy, but since he had not produced any heirs it was decided to do it the dwarven way through elections. In these, Bogdun Goldhand was elected. He had hopes to bring back the dwarven nations back as one as many other leaders during that time. However, his attempts where mainly trying to please the two clans leading the strife in between dwarves: the Irongrinders and the Frostbeards. According to record the Frostbeards saw the Irongrinders as war criminals for their actions in Urguan, however, the Irongrinders and most dwarves outside Kaz’Ulrah though similar things of the Frostbeards. This hate for one another made it impossible for anyone to bring them together. Even less a clan that was seen to many at the time to be the embodiment of the mutation Kaz’Ulrah was having on elder clans. The goldhands one of the elder clans of the cave dwarves had become a mountain dwarf clan, leaning in deep into ideals shared by the Frostbeards. By this time Kerwyr II Silvervein was told about the two Hammerforge brothers and their settlement. Edel wanted to stay as the political strife in the Frostbeard city was perfect for him to climb the social ladder of Kaz’Ulrah. However, Kerwyr wanted what the Hammerforges had, freedom of choice. Kerwyr convinced Edel that Kaz’Ulrah was a failed project and that he would never have any respect there. To his surprise Edel listened they met with the Hammerforges and the latter agreed to give them land for them to build their own settlement. Together with the help of the Hammerforges the Silvervein clan was able to build Azgaryum. It took years but the finished product was so good that they expanded it and made a city out of it. The city became called Karaz-a-Azgarum. The settlement entrance of the Hammerforges was sealed and a runic gate was built around it thanks to the great runic power of Grilthram Hammerforge. In addition, a great tunnel was built to connect the two districts Kerwyr II, Grimrodd, Thumril, and Gimli digged through the solid rock for years to finish the city. Karaz-a-Azgarum became a city anyone could visit, and the inner city became a place for gatherings of the Clan Fathers. It was at one of these gatherings in 1645 that the Confederation of Hammers was founded. The torch of Dwarven Freedom was light. Hope was on the horizon, and only one thing stood in the way of a bright future: Kaz’Ulrah. From 1645 to1658 the Confederation of Hammers would be the target of multiple waves of joint Uruk and Kaz’Ulrah attacks, with the aim to extinguish the flame of Freedom. ᚨᚺ ᚹᚨᛊ ᚨ ᚺᛖᚱᛖ [!] A depiction of Grimrodd Hammerforge explaining the battle plan to the Confederation Militia.ᚨᚺ ᚹᚨᛊ ᚨ ᚺᛖᚱᛖ Times were good, crops were plenty, and people were happy. The Confederation was prospering, and they wanted to share this prosperity. The leaders of the Confederation were called the Hammers, and these came from all the clans in the Confederation. These Hammers attended many meetings with multiple dwarven settlements to try to unite the dwarves under a Confederation of Dwarves. To propose this the Hammers first went to the temple of Az’Adar the town of the Irongrinders and other old Urguan bourgeoisie, as they had a proposal to make to the Confederation and other groups invited like Holm and Kaz’Ulrah. Obviously, the presence of a nation that had just raided them a few months back did not please the Hammers. But they listened and put their personal grievances aside for a possible solution to the problems the dwarven race faced. However, the meeting came to no solution and the Confederation was not able to make its offer. The old bourgeoisie of Urguan and the authoritarian members of Kaz’Ulrah could not stop arguing about who brought the downfall of dwarven civilization. It was obvious to most dwarves that after a couple minutes there were no constructive conversations, and most left. Nonetheless, in 1646 the Confederation decided to host its own gathering to make its proposal known to all dwarves. Things went well, a representative of every dwarven nation showed up, except for Kaz’Ulrah. In all honesty it is probable that they did not invite the Frostbeard Kingdom. All was going well until Hamnil Frostbeard showed up, unannounced and alone. The bourgeoisie got a hold of him and wanted to execute him for his crimes against dwarven kind, but the Hammers halted their hand. They would not allow the death of a dwarf in their own hall, no matter how depraved he could be. While Grilthram “the negotiator” tried to ease tensions between all the dwarves, a sneaky dwarf approached Hamnil and shaved his beard. The dwarves were in shock, reports say that the Frostbeard cried when he was shaved. Unwilling to have this mess in their hall the Hammers invited everyone, including Hamnil to leave. As no one knew the reasons why this individual shaved Hamnil some people theorize that he was sent there by another group to stop the creation of a Confederation of Urguan, or any similar nation. But what we do know, and what was clear to the Hammers at the time, was that the Frostbeards would be attacking more viciously than before. ᛊ ᛁᛏ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛞᛖᚲᛁᛞᛖᛞ ᛏ [!]A shaved Hamlin Frostbeard escaping the Confederation through Santegia.ᛊ ᛁᛏ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛞᛖᚲᛁᛞᛖᛞ ᛏ With the threat of an ever-bigger attack there was a need for the Confederation of Hammers to protect its coastal border. For this reason, the Hammers decided to send Gimli to meet with the human Lord that owned the town of Blackden which lied right at the end of the border of the confederation and the start of the sea. The Lord of this town was a human called Lope Keint. No one knows how or why Gimli stormed off from the meeting with the Lord. Some say that Lope Keint laughed at the peculiar beady eyes of Gimli and as he was surrounded by human guards Gimli restrained himself. This does not mean Gimli did not get his justice in a morning of 1650, Gimli Silvervein, Thumril Silvervein, Frederick von Croë, Leofwine Curthose led a small army to the gates of Blackden. In fear of the might of the Confederation Lope asked for help from Thomas Hartcold, self-proclaimed King of Adylith. The Confederation army did short work of the humans of Blackden, and soon most of them were dead. Those that survived like Thomas and many of his men ran away. Those that could not flee, like Lope Keint were hanged. The land of the Lord was taken over by Kerwyr II Silvervein, who renamed himself Norkai Silvervein. Under his ownership Blackden was annexed by the Confederation of Hammers. ᚾᛟᛏ ᛈᚱᛟᛞᚢᚲᛖᛞ ᚨ [!] Gimli “Metalfist” Silvervein cutting off Allanon Keint’s right arm. ᚾᛟᛏ ᛈᚱᛟᛞᚢᚲᛖᛞ ᚨ The Confederation saw more expansion in 1651, when Buldrumir Cottonwoods joined the confederation of Hammer, and created the Cottonwood village, which would later be renamed to Hefrumm after the Treebeards and other clans joined. Its dwarves were different from most mountain dwarf folk of the Confederation, the Hammers accepted their differences and welcomed them as brothers into their confederation. Buldrumir would become one of the legendary figures of the Confederation and of Hefrumm for his great passion and courage. He would father multiple sons some of them reaching great renown like Bordavir and Bjor Cottonwood. Despite Buldrumir’s eventual fall to insanity the village would prosper as a member of the Confederation being able to become a great exporter of Cottonwood Honey Mead, a drink that could be drunk in any proper inn of Atlas. During this time one of the children Bjor departed to become a dedicant druid. The Confederation and his village supported the beardling’s mission as he hoped to bring knowledge that the dwarves had lost, and encouraged him to keep at it. Another group to join the Confederation was the Stormfists, they settled the highest point of the valley and created a farming village there. The older people of the Confederation noticed that the younger dwarves of each generation remembered less and less of the atrocities of the Frostbeard Rebellions, the Hammers did not wish to burden the new generations with the demons of the past, but they did warn them to be careful around Kaz’Ulrah. The Confederation of Hammers never held any group hostage under their confederacy. Only those that truly love freedom can respect the freedom of others, and hence be free themselves. This would be an ideal that the folk of the Confederation would have to protect in the near future. ᚺᛖ ᚺᚨᛞ ᚺᛟᛈᛖᛊ [!] The Confederation forces hold back the orc charge while they burn them from behind.ᚺᛖ ᚺᚨᛞ ᚺᛟᛈᛖᛊ It was a bright day of 1654, the sun gleamed over the hills before the gates of Karaz-a-Azgarum the final lights of the day streaking the crops as a force of 1000 Frostbeards of Kath’Ulrah lead by Hamnil “The Beardless” Frostbeard, and Gror Ireheart, approached the gates of the city of the Confederation. Spears and armor rattled quietly as harsh insults were exchanged between the forces. The stout offensive of the Frostbeards was met by the oak and steel of the Confederation of Hammers composed of the Hammerforge clan lead by Grilthram and Grimrodd Hammerforge, the Silverveins lead by Gimli “The Young” Silvervein and Thumril “The Hammer” Silvervein with 900 dwarven troops. Arrows littered the skies as the battle had begun, the Frostbeards anticipating a swift victory against the supposedly inferior Hammerforge-Silvervein forces, the gates flung open with the Frostbeards eagerly advancing over the walkway, facing the stout shield wall held by Grimrodd “The Anvil” Hammerforge and Thumril “The Hammer” Silvervein and 500 dwarves. What the Frostbeards did not anticipate was the men of Whitepeak. Lead by Eimar and Aldyth var Burgundar, whom flooded through the mountain and across the Runic gate of the Hammerforges led by the dwarven Clan Fathers, Grimrodd. and Gimli of the Silvervein clan. Together they charged and flanked the rear of the enemy with their joint armies of 900 dwarven and human soldiers, charging through the disorderly Frostbeard line, pushing the unsuspecting dwarves off the sides of the bridge, slaying those whom did not fall. The Ram of White Peak having shattered the Frostbeard host against the anvil of the Silverveins and Hammerforges. During the Battle, over one thousand Kath’Ulrah dwarves and ninety-nine dwarven archers of the confederation were victims of the Frostbeards attack, and action that ended in their death. Kerwyr “High Tower” Silvervein was wounded in battle by one of the Frostbeard’s arrows in a valiant attempt to defend the main outer tower. During the struggle Grimrodd was surrounded by the Frostbeard horde, only to be saved by Dwarger Silvervein, the son of Edel. A talented warrior that would have a long an fruitful military career in multiple dwarven militaries. This battle was won by the confederation with minimal loss of blood, the soldiers of Kaz’Ulrah were rendered incapacitated by the Confederation or slain by Whitepeak. ᚷᛟᛚᛞᚺᚨᚾᛞ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛖᛚᛖᚲᛏᛖᛞ [!] Gimli Silvervein and Grilthram Hammerforge leading the rear charge.ᚷᛟᛚᛞᚺᚨᚾᛞ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛖᛚᛖᚲᛏᛖᛞ In another attack Gror Ireheart led an army of orcs to the gates of the city, to meet him there were the soldiers of the Confederation alongside Norkai and Edel Silvervein. The clan father of the Silverveins opened the gates and went out to talk to Edel. Dwarves gathered around the walls of the Confederation to see what was going on. They saw how Edel made a fool of himself when he started to strip away his armor until he was bear chested in front of Gror. Gror was visibly confused at the display of the Silvervein. Edel looked at Gror dead in the eyes and with a cocky smirk dared him to slay him if he thinks he was able to. What Edel probably did not foresee was Gror trying just that. The Ireheart slashed at Edel chopping off a piece of his beard. Everyone watching was horrified. No one could believe how stupid the action was to put one’s beard in such a dangerous position. After that the soldiers of the Confederation escorted Edel inside the city as the archers scared away the enemy forces. Edel was devastated and was in denial of what happened to him. His actions that day lead many to doubt his capabilities as a leader. ᚺᛖᛁᚱᛊ ᛁᛏ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛞᛖᚲᛁᛞᛖᛞ [!] Depiction of Edel Silvervein after his beard got slashed.ᚺᛖᛁᚱᛊ ᛁᛏ ᚹᚨᛊ ᛞᛖᚲᛁᛞᛖᛞ His actions at different points in time would cause so much strife in the Confederation that the Cottonwood dwarves rebelled against it with the sole goal to remove Edel from the position of Hammer. It seems that Edel tended to urinate and defecate in various parts of the Cottonwood village, like altars and chairs. In addition to that he also called the Cottonwood people sheepfuckers something that they did not take lightly. Cyler Cottonwood incited protest and riots against the Silvervein. The Cottonwoods eventually rejoined the Confederation, as friends and companions and Edel faced justice. In response to Edel’s lack of leadership the Elders of the Silvervein clan decided to make Gimli the new Clan Father of the Silverveins. Gimli laid claim to the clan by renaming it to Emberbanes, a more intimidating name compared to the name of Silvervein, which had the connotation of a clan of liars and cheaters thanks to Edel’s actions with other clans and races. After that the Hammers met with Edel and told him to stop with his toxic behavior as he gave all dwarves a bad image. To this Edel took offense, he was already angered at Gimli for replacing him. He demanded to be treated with respect, however, the more he demanded things the less the Hammers would listen. It was clear by then that he had let the greed for power cloud his heart and mind, and was a liability to the Confederation, he was the type of dwarves that would betray them at any time if that meant he could become king. The Hammers informed Edel that they were not going to act in Emberbane internal issues and that they will not remove Gimli from clan father. Edel became enraged that the Hammers officially saw Gimli as clan father, which meant he was not the youngest dwarf to have become clan father. Especially after hearing the name of Emberbane Edel lost it. A few days later he would try to lead all the silverveins loyal to him to a new land, however no one joined him. He marched alone and would not see the confederation again until his death. ᚺᛖᚱᛖᛞᛁᛏᚨᚱᛁ ᛗᛟᚾᚨᚱᚲ [!] Depiction of the Cottonwood Rebellion.ᚺᛖᚱᛖᛞᛁᛏᚨᚱᛁ ᛗᛟᚾᚨᚱᚲ 1658 was one of the darkest years of the Confederation. That year the Kingdom of Kaz’Ulrah brought the Kingdom of Renatus and Marna into their side to deal with Confederation of Hammers, as the attacks with the orcs were not large enough to destroy the Confederation. In addition to this, the allies of the Confederation started to waver. Whitepeak had vassalized under Renatus leaving the Confederation alone against its enemies. In addition to these blows the Cottonwood Rebellion had caused a big drop of morale in the militias of the Confederation. Multiple Silverveins permanently left the Confederation of Hammer as well to join Kaz’Ulrah destroying the morale of many dwarves. The Council of Hammers voted, but no choice could be made. They were unable to decide whether to stay and fight the Empire and Kaz’Ulrah or join Kaz’Ulrah. The chamber was divided in half. Using their common sense, they agreed to keep the confederation ideals alive to the best of their abilities, and both sides accepted the decision of the other. Those that remained in the Confederation land, made it impossible for Kaz’Ulrah take control of the settlements. The Cottonwood alongside Utak, Thumril, some Hammerforges and metalfists all still loyal to the cause fought through guerilla tactics to keep their rightful land. Norkai of the High Tower reforms Blackden into a pirate base. For half a decade Norkai’s crew supplied the confederation with 3/5 of the Hartcold wealth with him keeping 1/5 and allowing the human House to keep 1/5. Kaz’Ulrah heard of his exploits and Hamnil Frostbeard offered him to become the Grand Admiral of the fleet of Kaz’Ulrah, a tempting offer for Norkai who had learned to find satisfaction from Grimdugan’s guidance. However, in his own words “a’ will net be kissin tha arse ef that beardless *****.” Which means that he never took up the offer. ᛁᚱᛟᛜᚱᛁᚾᛞᛖᚱᛊ [!] Norkai sailing alongside his pirate fleet.ᛁᚱᛟᛜᚱᛁᚾᛞᛖᚱᛊ With time the old and wealthy individuals of the old kingdom of Urguan sought a way to regain the power they lost with the fall of Urguan, and if it suits their interests, unite the dwarves. For this goal the kingdom of Ord was created. The Confederation joins Ord and accepts them as the rightful dwarven kingdom formation of Ord under King Darek Hammerfist and with Gror Ireheart as Marshal of Ord. Some of the Confederation did not support the move as it would mean that they would have a king, however, the young leaders of the Confederation and Throri Stonemace joined Ord and placed most of the resources of Azgaryum into Ord so that they could build the new kingdom. Sadly, Ord proved to be a clone of Urguan’s worst demons. Resources were lost, building was slow, and the old Urguanites were silent in their doings. It was no surprise to the confederation of Hammers that Ord dissolved back into Azadar and its members waited for someone else to fulfill their goals. In1665 the Second Confederation of Hammers was founded under the protectorate of Whitepeak which was in turn under Courland. This new union was one that all hammers of the council of the confederation agreed to. Whitepeak had long been allies and close friends to the dwarves of the Confederation, and with the constant Orc and Kaz’Ulrah raids the decision was obvious. This was a great time for the Confederation, this new freedom from raids enabled them to make themselves known and strengthen their political strength. Norkai took this duty seriously keeping note of all those who wronged his kin. In 1666 Norkai smashed a Santigian noble woman’s head for disrespecting the authority of the Confederation of Hammers on their own land. Guards eventually came for the body of the woman but did not threaten Norkai or Thumril who was with him at the time. Norkai looked into the eyes of the guards and they saw fear, but their fear was not directed at the power of the Confederation but at the power of the human Emperor of Renatus. This annoyed Norkai greatly and in 1667 he signed the Treaty of the Southern Stone, between him as Keeper of the confederation, Clan Father and Hammer Gimli Metalfist, Chief and Hammer Boldrumir Cottonwood, Clan Father and Hammer Throri 'Warmheart' Stonemace, the Hammer Thumril Metalfist, Hammer Bjor Cottonwood, and Tobias Staunton of House Staunton King of Courland. Norkai used his power of Keeper to break the tie in the council of Hammers and signed the treaty, making the Confederation of Hammers fully independent and recognized as a nation by Courland in exchange of a military alliance. That same year the Coalition Wars of Atlas started. The AntiRenatus alliance was formed with the Confederation of Hammers and Courland as well as its mercenaries. The dwarves of the Confederation marched to their first battle to help their Courland allies, they traveled to Whitepeak in 1668 to await the incoming attack. The forces of Renatus were massive, Gimli and Thumril fought bravely but were thrown over the wall, only surviving by chance. Norkai was angered at the lack of proper defenses of Whitepeak and blamed the bad architecture for the defeat. A few months later Norkai met with the King of Renatus and Marna, he offered the Confederation of Hammers full independence and protection from the Anti-Renatus alliance if they were to become neutral in the war. The Council at the time was somewhat divided on the matter as they did not want to go back on their word, however, Norkai knew that he had the opportunity to leave the war without it dishonoring the confederation or its people. He openly accepted the future dishonor and blame that could come to his person by his actions and he then overruled the council vote to bring the Confederation out of the war. Documents seem to suggest that Norkai tended to morally questionable actions, but the fruits of his labor flourished in 1669 when Renatus defeated Courland and its allies and kept their word to the Confederation. After this Norkai stepped down as Keeper of the Confederation as he believed he would dishonor the position if he remained any longer. ᛞᚹᚨᚱᚢᛖᚾ [!] Depiction of Gimli leading the Confederation forces during the siege of Whitepeak.ᛞᚹᚨᚱᚢᛖᚾ Back in Kaz’Ulrah in 1675 Hamnil Frostbeard and Edel Silvervein have an honor duel. In it the Frostbeard seemingly killed Edel and left him to bleed to death in the cold mountain of Kaz’Ulrah. As soon as Norkai heard the news to years later in 1677 he set out to Kaz’Ulrah to avenge the death of a dwarf that he grew to consider a brother despite all his flaws. Norkai challenged Hamnil to an honor duel for having killed Edel. At the time Norkai was not his young self. Years of leadership as Keeper and addiction to thanium had him feeble and sickly, no match to the Frostbeard. Hamnil defeated him easily and once he got Norkai to the ground he denied him the chance at an honorable death. Norkai was emotionally destroyed by losing to a dwarf that was unable to protect his own beard, and hence saw this loss as a great dishonor. The only thing he could have now was a good death. For this reason, Norkai commanded Officer Grudgebeard to duel him to the death so that he could grant him the death he was looking for. Grudgebeard killed Norkai who was able to sense the sweetness of death after a life of suffering. The young Utak was able to retrieve the body of Norkai which was tossed outside the city to be eaten by animals. Taking the body up to the highest mountain of Atlas Utak took Norkai’s runic eye and burned the dead dwarf’s body as is the traditional Steelheart way, the Patriarch’s Eye, the runic eye of Norkai, would join the many relics of the Confederation of Hammers. ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛞᛊ [!] Norkai’s honor duel against Hamnil Frostbeard.ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛞᛊ Thumril was the voted to become the next Keeper of the Confederation of Hammers after Norkai stepped down. During his term he signed the Treaty of Hammer and Lion on 1675, a defensive alliance and free trade between House Hartcold and the Confederation of Hammers. This was a closer step to the creation of true peace in the region of Southern Atlas. Before his death one of Norkai’s last actions was to name Utak the Keeper of the Confederation, and action that the Hammers agreed to as Thumril wanted to focus on the remodeling of the capital. In 1677 the news of the September prince reached the Confederation. They were informed that a coalition of the Dominion, Holm, Kaz’Ulrah, Krugmar, and Renatus had joined to face the September prince. Despite the strength of the September prince the dwarves of the Confederation did not see it as proper to march alongside Kaz’Ulrah after they had allegedly killed one of their oldest members. Without the support of the Confederation of Hammers the battle was lost. Kaz’Ulrah was not the dwarven power it used to be and its weak internal policies started to break the nation from the inside, creating soldiers that had no passion for the protection of their way of life, as their way of life was in many occasion unethical. The coalition lost the battle against the September Prince, once the Confederation saw this, they started arming themselves up for battle incase the creature decided to walk towards their city. They knew that if the September prince reached the Confederation, they would all die. But that was a prize they were willing to take. The freedom of the dwarves was only as strong as the arms of the soldiers of the Confederation that fought to protect it. Three years later in 1680 the Kingdom of Bogrin would be created by the Grandaxe clan, something the Confederation of Hammers took notice of. ᚨᛏᛏᛖᛗᛈᛏᛊ [!] Depiction of Utak alongside Thumril and Bjor.ᚨᛏᛏᛖᛗᛈᛏᛊ No one in the Confederation seemed to have expected Edel to become King of Kaz’Ulrah in the ends of the year 1682. Obviously Edel tried to have the Confederation of Hammers vassalize under Kaz’Ulrah. It seemed that despite having been a dwarf of the Confederation once, Edel had not learned anything from the kings of Kaz’Ulrah that have tried to conquer the Confederation of Hammers. Edel did not have a chance to invade, Edel was captured in 1683 by humans and forced to give away lands to various nations. After that he was shaved, after he begged for life the dwarf was liberated. Once he returned to Kaz’Ulrah he was shamed and removed from his position as king. In this way he became the dwarven monarch with the shortest reign, barely a month. Edel did not accept his removal from the throne and he hid in a silvervein fort in the wild, from which he kept claiming to be the King of Kaz’Ulrah. His claim was not supported by any clan. ᛁᚱᛟᛜᚱᛁᚾᛞᛖᚱᛊ [!] A painting called; King Edel Baldchin ᛁᚱᛟᛜᚱᛁᚾᛞᛖᚱᛊ A year later and thanks to the Hefrumm folk in 1684 the Silver-Wood Alliance was formed and brought the Silverveins back to their true home in the Confederation. Edel however did not return. The Confederation continued to grow by the day, with more and more clans joining the ranks. However, in 1687 Azgaryum, the capital of the Confederation of Hammers collapsed onto itself. Soon enough, the folk of the Confederation found out that they were actually being attacked by ratmen from the cavern depths and they collapsed the city by destroying its foundations from underneath. It was Grilthram Hammerforge that witnessed it and informed the dwarves. Before the attack the Hammerforge felt an odd rumbling coming from the ground. He went down the stairs to the deepest section of the Confederation until reaching the great pillars that held the city from crumbling in case of earthquakes or anything that could make the city move. There he saw ratmen destroying the pillars in a suicidal mission to make the city collapse onto the depths. Knowing he was unable to stop them Grilthram ran to his kin and escorted them outside the city. As the last person exited the city the dwarves would be able to see as their beautiful city, that they called the Impregnable City, be swallowed by the earth itself in a swift swoosh. It is said that when the city slammed against the bedrock of the earth, the whole territory of the Confederation shook. After the ground stopped rumbling the dwarves went down the cavern depths to face those ratmen. However, they were not ready to witness what their eyes showed them, a sight that brought dread to their very souls. ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛊ [!] Grilthram witnesses the ratmen collapsing the capital’s pillars.ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛊ The dwarves of the confederation had never felt such sadness, unfortunately for the ratmen the feeling was overshadowed by unyielding rage. The Dwarves of the Confederation called upon Bogrin and united they pushed into the caverns below and found a large cavern with a ruined dwarven city inside it. At its gates they made the first camp as the city was the home of the ratmen and they needed to hold them back from retaking the caverns. For three long years the dwarves of the confederation lived alongside the ratmen killing them in an arduous process to exterminate them and avenge their home. The dwarves of the confederation alongside Bogrin became more and more attached to the place built by their ancestors. The two nations started forming a comradery through the tough days killing ratmen and through the nights when one could hear the endless screeching of the ratmen. Eventually with Azgaryum gone, and the Confederation starting to find the beauty of the ruined city, they decided to settle it naming it Kaz'ad Barakir. The city became the new capital of the Confederation of Hammers. Still the ratmen still lingered in sections of the city, and the war with the ratfolk continued. The horrors of the ratfolk would never be forgotten by those that fought against them. ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛞᛊ [!] Depiction of Thumril fighting the ratmen in a fiery battlefield.ᚠᚱᛟᛊᛏᛒᛖᚨᚱᛞᛊ Time in the outside world still went on, in 1685 the September Prince continued to move through Atlas. During this moment the dwarves of Kal’Bogrin and the Confederation of Hammers go involved in the Kal’Bogrin Offensive. Under the leadership of Ulhart Grandaxe, a counterattack against the September prince forces in Haelun’or a year after the siege of Okarn’Thilln. This effort for a greater good slowed the process of defeating the ratmen, but it was a step closer to saving the world as they knew it. Meanwhile in the Confederation the battle for a home continued. The Stormfists had returned under Egoi Stormfist, immediately rejoining the Confederation and assisting in the war against the ratmen. Many dwarves were losing their lives fighting for the right to remain in their home. Some souls were captured by the ratmen, their screams could be heard all day every day, the tormented sounds of tortured dwarves rang in the eardrums of all the confederation soldiers. Meanwhile in 1688 the war against the September prince continued. The Second Kal’Bogrin Offensive was set up led by the Kal’Bogrin Dwedmar. The flexibility of having various groups allowed the dwarves to fight efficiently against the September Prince and the Ratmen at the same time. ᚺᚨᛗᛗᛖᚱᚠᛟᚱᚷᛖ [!] Confederation Dwarven Militia fighting the Ratmen horde.ᚺᚨᛗᛗᛖᚱᚠᛟᚱᚷᛖ Chapter Three- Reunification of the Folk Probably one of the most important year in dwarven history was 1690. In that year the Confederation of Hammers was able to fully destroy the ratmen threat alongside their allies. That same year the Confederation and Kingdom of Bogrin started talks to merge nations. The act would be a big step to reunifying the dwarves under a solid cemented union. However, the Kingdom of Bogrin was a kingdom while the Confederation were for the most part against the idea of having a king. It was an extremely difficult choice, but the Confederation agreed to the terms of Bogrin. The terms did not displease many dwarves of the confederation as they have had self-determination for half a century under the council of Hammers and later the Council of Agnarum. However, they ended up tolerating the fact that there was a king. Afterall a nation of dwarves united in their pursuit of the wellbeing of the dwarven race was one of the pillars of the Confederation of Hammers. As the Confederation had no interest in having a king to begin with they allowed Fimlin Grandaxe to become their High King. Two years later Kaz’Ulrah fell. This caused an influx of clans from all over the continent to come to Agnarum. The new Kingdom welcomed them with open arms as was the way the nation was founded, after all, the kingdom was still in its majority guided by the ethics of the Darus Krom, one of the greatest political works of the time that was written during the golden age of the Confederation. After a year the dwarves were finally reunited, The Dwarven Dark Ages which started with the slaughter of the senate of Urguan in 1612 by the Frostbeards launching the throne wars. A prelude to the 1631 War of the Beards that would see the Fourth Frostbeard Rebellion succeed in capturing all of Urguan’s territories after Frerir Irongrinder self-exiled himself dooming the dwarven people for 59 years. ᛗᛟᚢᚾᛏᚨᛁᚾ [!] Depiction of the siege of Kal’tarak, the last moments of Kaz’Ulrah.ᛗᛟᚢᚾᛏᚨᛁᚾ By the year 1696 the dwarves were at full force for the Battle of Caras Eldar against the September Prince. In this great battle many dwarves lost their lives, but through their sacrifice the September prince was defeated. The dwarves had finally achieved peace after so many decades of struggle. Now the dwarves had time to heal and strengthen the bonds between one another. Gimli reformed the Metalfist clan bringing it to prominence within the Kingdom. He ended up becoming one of the most powerful dwarves of the kingdom, founding Thumrilgrad, serving as the king’s hand, and leading the Metalfist clan. Another dwarf of the Confederation: Utak Ireheart, became an extremely popular dwarf with a talent for war. During his time as Keeper of the Confederation Utak was the mightiest protector of its lands and ideals. Unlike other dwarves of the Confederation Utak believed in a middle way between the way of the Confederation and the way of Kaz’Ulrah enabling many dwarves from the fallen Frostbeard city to transition smoothly back into dwarven society. Utak “Dungrimm’s Blade '' Ireheart forged his way from a grunt in the militia of the Confederation of Hammers, to one of the greatest dwarven warrior Kings of all time, rivaling legends like paragon Thorin Grandaxe. Speaking of Paragon, another Confederation dwarf to leave his mark in history was Bjor Cottonwood. With time and great effort he achieved his goals of becoming a druid. Sadly soon after he achieved his dreams; bringing stability to Hefrumm, and uniting the folk, he died saving multiple dwarves from monstrous lizards whose venom turned people into stone. His petrified body is still kept in Hefrumm to this day. Bjor would be named Paragon after his death due to his great help reuniting the race, bringing Hefrumm dwarves into a golden age, and willingness to sacrifice for the future of the dwarves. With many tales like the ones of these dwarves, with time, and step by step the Kingdom of Urguan was once again established thanks to the power of perseverance, sacrifice, and compromise. ᛊᛖᛏᛏᛚᛖᛗᛖᚾᛏ [!] The Grandmarshal of Urguan Dain Metalfist cheering for King Utak Ireheart.ᛊᛖᛏᛏᛚᛖᛗᛖᚾᛏ We are now in Arcas, in an ending war against the inferi that have stolen Yemekar’s Hammer from us, mysterious attacks from corrupt creatures, and more dangers lie in our future. However, the light of the dwarves and the ideals of the confederation will make sure the unity of the dwarves, their culture, and their faith become stronger every time a new generation of Dwarves arrive. If the Brathmordakin will it, one day Urguan will be able to become what it is meant to be; The Confederation of Urguan. The Crown of the Paragon The crown of Hefrumm, traditionally passed down from High Chief to High Chief ever since Bjor Cottonwood. A dwarf that reached Paragonhood for his great love, affection, and willingness to sacrifice for others. These attributes allowed him to bring his forest dwarf brothers to golden age. Tales of the past say that the crown vestows wisdom to whichever High Chief who would listen. Eye of the Patriarch Once Norkai died he did not need his runic eye anymore. His eye was mounted on a ring so that he could see his descendants through the halls of Kaz’A’Dentrum. Legends says that the wearer of the ring is able to commune with him, though it is just like any other type of folklore; of questionable accuracy. Flaming Sword of the Keeper A sword which once belonged to the dwarf Norkai. It is said that with it one would be able to slay most undead beings. The holy flames of the blade would shine brightly and would spread once in contact with an undead. After his death the sword was intended to be the symbol of the Keeper of the Confederation, becoming a physical manifestation of the flame of the Confederation. Legends claim that the sword was left in Atlas so that the flame would never be extinguished in those lands and hence even if all dwarfkind is gone the flame will prevail, burning for eternity. His ancient gaze rizes to the blue horizon far beyond his seaward home, and bows his head. “May their names be unforgotten, may their beards grow ever-longer in the Halls of the Gods. We fought alongside them against the tyranny of Azwyrtrumm- would that we could do so again! Glory to the heroes!"
SimplySeo 5209 Share Posted October 26, 2020 Grand King Jorvin Starbreaker reads from within the royal apartment of Kal’Evraal, tired eyes flicking across the document in the dim firelight which illuminated the chamber. As he read, he recalled each story told to him by his mentors and friends in the halls of Kal’Azgaryum. How long ago that was...Jorvin felt the passage of time weigh down upon him like a brick. He was a boy when Ulrah fell, a boy traumatized by the sights, sounds, and smells of war. Those dwellers of of the southern peaks had no reason to welcome his kin. His father, his uncles, and his siblings had been on the wrong side of history. And yet they did. He remembered the marching and drills under Utak and Dain, marshalling a disciplined throng from a host of outcasts, cripples, and refugees. So few they were, yet nevertheless ready for the day the Empire, the Urks, or any other foe came to their door. Jorvin memorized those drills, he practiced them every day until he could preform them in his sleep. Twice a day, every day for years, Twenty? Thirty? He didn’t remember now. He patrolled the hinterlands and valleys surrounding Azgaraz until he grew as familiar with them as he had his childhood home. While his father still mourned the loss of the Crownhold and Jorvin’s mother, it was Gimli Metalfist who first taught the young Starbreaker how to forge, and how to defend himself if need-be. During those dark years, Gimli was like an older brother to him, a mentor for a troubled youth, who himself was not all too old. It was a friendship that would last. Jorvin and Gimli’s expeditions into the Yatl Wastes saw to that. In that dark, cold place where no light did shone. He remembered the hospitality of Bjor, who he shared drinks with every day during his morning patrol. Funny to think now the silly Dwarf with a talent for mead was a religious icon, and cultic figure for the forest-folk. He recalled the medal given to him by Utak after his seventh training. It was nothing major, a simple reward for diligent behavior, but Jorvin cherished it. To him it was a sign he was no longer the scared boy bleeding to near-death in the streets of Ulrah, but a man ready and trained to defend his home and his kin, however few they were. That tiny hold on the edge of the wastelands carried their race through one of the darkest chapters in their history. Never again would their race fall. That was what those who dwelled within the hold of outcasts and refugees said to him. Those words were what Jorvin held close to his heart. When they battled through arctic winds and Vaeyl hordes to reach refuge. When he commanded the Dwarven forces against the voidal scourge that threatened Arcas thirty years ago...And now, as he commanded the Throng of Urguan against the Neverborn, the Host of the Damned, the Inferi. Never again. The Grand King ceased his internal musings for a moment, and his eyes drifted. He looked to his bed, the riches piled beside it worth a dozen human kingdoms, wealth unimaginable during those days. He looked to the sleeping form beside him, and recalled how he never expected to live long enough to see such things as...Love, not when the Long War was in need of winning. Finally, his gaze drifted to the wall, where a faded, torn and bloodstained Azgaryumos banner hung beside that of the Grand Kingdom, the Kingdom they built. He might have been no veteran of the Confederation, he might not have known all the struggles, but he shared many, and Gods know by now he was the veteran of dozens of battles himself. All to uphold his oath sworn under the peak of Azgaraz, his oath to protect the Dwarvish folk. PUBLIC WRIT OF ENDORSEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GRAND KING Being the son of the High Remembrancer, it is rare I find a historical piece that intrigues me, for much of it I already know and have studied. This is likewise the case here, however while I know its contents well from stories told round the hearth and Legion campfire, I can say with certain this is the first document in many years which has truly moved me. The history of our folk during the Atlesian Period is one wrought with tragedy. It is a story of kinstrife and sacrifice, but most of all, how the determination and stubbornness of a rare few can alter the course of history. No longer do we live on borrowed time, in fear of a mighty Empire. No longer do we suffer barely the means to sustain ourselves. Not only has Grand Urguan been reforged, it has been forged stronger from said hardship. All my adult life, I have bled in service to the idea that is Grand Urguan, and I can say without a shred of doubt that without those dauntless few of the Confederation, we would not be the Superpower we are now. To those few who remain who carried our people through the final years of the Kinstrife, to those without whom our people would remain under the boot of tyrants and foreigners, I say this. Narvak oz Agnarum Yarred Den-Agnar’azgaraz thamar ihonlor threin Na oz narvak-nar-tazarak thamar velak Thoth ok kraviil'ur'khrum Yoth Urguan ᚾᚨᚱᚡᚨᚴᛟᛉᚨᚷᚾᚨᚱᚢᛗ ᚤᚨᚱᚱᛖᛞᛞᛖᚾᚨᚷᚾᚨᚱᚨᛉᚷᚨᚱᚨᛉᛏᚺᚨᛗᚨᚱᛁᚺᛟᚾᛚᛟᚱᛏᚺᚱᛖᛁᚾ ᚾᚨᛟᛉᚾᚨᚱᚡᚨᚴᚾᚨᚱᛏᚨᛉᚨᚱᚨᚴᛏᚺᚨᛗᚨᚱᚡᛖᛚᚨᚴ ᛏᚺᛟᛏᚺᛟᚴᚴᚱᚨᚡᛁᛁᛚᚢᚱᚴᚺᚱᚢᛗ ᚤᛟᛏᚺᚢᚱᚷᚢᚨᚾ
Nooblius 5794 Share Posted October 26, 2020 The High Prophet Norli Starbreaker reads the extensive history, and offers a pained smile as he finishes. He takes out a paper, and begins to scribe a response:When I fought in that harrowing battle at New Jornheim Fields in my youth, in the aftermath when the ground ran red like a river of my kindred’s blood, I was mortified at what had come of dwarfdom. I ran from it, I hid. I swore off all trust in da khazadmar, and believed our race damned by the Brathmordakin after we had forsaken the teachings of Khaz’A’Dentrumm. In my nightmares did I hear songs of Belka herself, singing me the horrors I had witnessed. I became stoic en my disdain of my kindred. I was a coward. While I retreated to the caverns of Axios, Atlas, Arcas, there were those who tirelessly fought for the salvation of dwarfdom, they who by sweat and blood, by immense sacrifice to safety and prosperity would forge from the remnants of the fathers a new nation, conceived in the ideals of the Brathmordakin. While I wrote songs of doom and pessimism, they wrote anthems and ballads of glory. While I wished for the final extinction of my kin so that Yemekar’s Design would be rid of our filth, they made us again honored. I have nothing but immense respect for these khazadmar, these heroes of all dwarfdom who built the foundation on which I stand today. It was at the naming of a new Paragon, at Bjor Cottonwood’s death, by which my songs once again ran with optimism and hope, and that I shall never forget. Hallowed was the Confederation Hallowed be that which was built upon it Hallowed be the Grand Kingdom of Urguan. The High Prophet signs the letter and sends it to be nailed to the notice board. “It’s time we all understood what they did for us,” he mumbles as a tear rolls down his cheek.
Cheezzy_Garlik 502 Share Posted October 26, 2020 Dhain Metalfist would look up to his father as he read the tome and spoke softly once his father was done talking “But dah, oi donnae ‘ow tae rehd, yeh said et wow get pussehs and pess’eads” he’d scratch his thin beard and then turn to his brother Jorvin Metalfist “hrm Jorvie oi fink dah es a pess’ead.”
Fimlin 1696 Share Posted October 26, 2020 Fimlin Grandaxe studies the document with great interest, with feelings of nostalgia and regret mulling over the history of the one of the most tumultuous times in dwarven history. But beside that the document brought forth to Fimlin’s mind his high regard towards the Confederation, and how it was them that made the reunion of the Dwedmar possible. “The Confederation was in aneh sense an organic Kingdom o’ dwed, they were much alike ‘ow we were ‘fore toime and greed ‘ad aged the ol’ Grand Kingdom. They were ah nation out of toime, more innocent o’ the their forbearer’s transgressions. Ah dunnae t’ink maneh these days know of the Confederation, especialleh before Agnarum. Teh focus of ‘istory falls wit’ old Urguan or Kaz’Ulrah, but the Confederation’s history is our ‘eritage, and t’ose who remember owe it to the dwedmar to keep tha’. As ah was warned at the toime, uniteh could swallow the Confederation, an’ per’aps it ‘as somewhat. But ah do believe documentation, an’ this tome will ‘elp tha’. Agnarum, an’ later our New Urguan was forged with the vigor an’ spirit of the confederation an’ the experience of elder dwed. since then the dwedmar of the Confederation of Hammers ‘ave done well, learned well and lead our people proudleh an’ ‘onorableh. But wit’out the Confederation an t’eir sacrifoices there would be nae Urguan. it was Grilthram, Grimrodd an’ Gimli who let us foind the ground we needed to start our reunification, an’ it was Utak, Gimli an’ Bjor’s w’os work built up the nation further to get w’ere weh are nuw.” Fimlin would say to anyone talking of the tome while sitting in the tavern.
Forestdwarfman 298 Share Posted October 26, 2020 [!] As a cold morning breeze would roll over the farmlands of Hefrumm and rush through its fields of wheat and carrots, carrying golden leaves of Autumn, the petrified body of Bjor Cottonwood would be returned to the roots of the tree of Ancestors. The Paragon’s remains were returned to the ground above, carried by his sons as they saw it fit during these calmer times. The amber hue of a rising sun would set upon the solidified Paragon, who’d once again look over his lands. Lifeless and cold the body of Bjor Cottonwood stood regardless of all the warmth the sun were to give him, yet his soul would be feasting in the halls of Khaz’A’Dentrumm, one would assume. With an ale horn, unrealistic in size, in his bulky hands, the stouty dwarf looked down at his kin, with great joy filling his loving heart and his adoptive father Boldrumir joining his side. Old memories were brought back to his mind of times simpler yet beautiful. It was the Confederation of Hammers that took in the lost boy, saving him from madness caused by solitude and deprivation of his kin. A home he was given within the remains of the now-empty Cottonwood village. In the halls of Azgaryum they welcomed him like their own. A grin of a warming joy would curl under the dwarf’s mustache at the thought of these times. He did not solely feel grateful, but also proud to see what his kin and closest brotherin had become. [!] A meeting of Hammers within Azgaryum ⧫Utak Ireheart he had known as a brother, both clanless and filled with youthful foolishness when they met. Bjor remembered the times when their kin were at an all low, and many had departed from Azgaryum’s halls, it was Utak Goldylocks who had stayed with the young forest dwarf. From these simple times, Utak had grown both in physical might and political insight. Leading his kin as king of the reformed Urguan through wars greater than they as boys could ever imagine. Bringing glory in conquest to their dwarven kin, something that hadn’t been seen in a long time. Utak was the brother that had taken in Bjor, bringing him to his home and new-found family, for this Bjor would be ever grateful to Utak. ⧫Gimli Metalfist, the one that showed Bjor around in the halls of Azgaryum at his arrival. He was the most dwarven dwarf Bjor had ever to know, filled with honor, pride, and love for his kin and halls, he had led the Confederation through political stances. Gimli Metalfist, would be a name Bjor saw spread across the realm of descendants, for how could one not, heil the mighty Gimler of Azgaryum. ⧫Norkai of the Hightower was a dwarf mysterious to Bjor at first, yet when he later rose to the position of Keeper the mighty dwarf led with an eye for culture and ways. He organized feasts and taught the young dwarves about the ways of the Brathmordakin, lessons to ever stick with the forest dwarf. Norkai sadly came to his end before the departure of Atlas, yet his wisdoms stayed with the kin of the Confederation. ⧫Thumril Metalfist, one of Bjor’s greatest comrades. Together the two traveled to many places, like the lands of Dunshire, doing good yet often youthful mischief. Thumril showed Bjor the vast plains and cities beyond the forests he had wandered, and a friendship to last until the end of their days. ⧫Jorvin Starbreaker, yet a mere simple scout of Agnarum when Bjor resided in his rather empty village at the time. The young Starbreaker often visited the forest dwarf on his daily patrols over the hills of Agnarumm’s valleys, saving the dwarf from crippling loneliness within his village. Though Bjor never got the chance to say so, this was something he carried within his heart till his death and was grateful for beyond death itself. The once simple scout had now risen to Kingship of Urguan under Bjor’s watchful eyes. A king that leads his folk with an unseen passion and love for his kin to the very core of his being. Where his kingship will lead Bjor is uncertain, for Bjor is dead not a seer, but that Jorvin will do all for the better of his kin he knows for sure. ⧫Boldrumir Cottonwood was the only forest dwarf Bjor was to meet during his youth. A dwarf scarred by his past and left with an empty village. Regardless of this Boldrumir took in Bjor into his village as a son of his own, telling great tales of the Cottonwood clan. This would be a great influence in Bjor’s later ambitions towards his forest dwarven kin. Even though the old forest dwarf later departed the lands of the Confederation because of his past, in search of redemption, Boldrumir sparked a love for his forest dwarven kin within the heart of Bjor. ⧫Dwarger Silvervein, the dwarf more eager to woop someone's ass that Bjor had ever seen. A warrior that has stood ground many times against the Frostbeards for the lands of the Confederation. Evenwhen times were less certain he had joined the Silverveins in their departure, the friendship between the two was never broken. ⧫The Hammerforges that had come before him, he knew less, yet he knew very well the halls he resided in were carved with the help of these great dwarves. The axe and sword he had wielded to defend the home of his kin had been forged by their hands. Joy it brought Bjor to see these dwarves had returned to their kin. Though Bjor met many more brothers and sisters in his coming years, the brothers and sisters of the Confederation were those that shaped the young dwarf. All good he was later to do for his kin, would have never been possible without these mighty dwarves. With ale at the ready, Bjor Cottonwood would follow their brothers with watchful eyes, waiting for their rejoice once again. Expecting some of these great dwed to join him in Paragonhood. Bjor would Confed-salute his brothers from death. https://imgur.com/a/kKwlE2l https://imgur.com/a/SZVQjy7 Spoiler @DixieDemolisher @Mickaelhz @Endershadow292 @LionEY_ @D3F4LT @DwarvenDaddy
paladinxo1 166 Share Posted October 26, 2020 (edited) [!] Grilthram Hammerforge appearing now after so long to read the tome of his brothers and sisters of the confederation. Standing in the room of the library a place he hadn’t visited in such a long time, with the travels of the world being seen across his face. He was old now streaks of white parted the red sea of his flowing beard and his face more wrinkled and furrowed then in his youth. He would smile as he unfurled the book opening up to read the history of the confederation of hammers. Greeted with the symbol of the confederation the symbol of the silvervein and hammerforge clan the gem and fire, the balance of them both equal in standing. He would think back to when he first roamed the wildlands near santegia finding a suitable mountain home. That when he stood in the valley where the cottonwoods would settle peering up to the two peaks of what was to become azgaraz and azgaryum. He never would have thought that it would come as far as it did, and it only has through the sheer determination of everyone that has ever called themselves apart of the confederation.* [!] He would write a letter in the back of the book for those who read after him. “Of all the greatest accomplishments of our race we can attest to. Never forget our greatest strength...UNITY.” “For all our faults, and all our sins, In the heat of adversity we persevere together and together we can overcome anything.” “Be loyal to each other, Never be greedy with power, All dwarves are created equal under the guidance of yemekar. Keep the lives of your fellow dwarves above all else, and stomp out any corruption.” “Dwedmar of Azgaryum arise! Let us build the nation.” (A thank you to everyone who ever was apart of this movement. Those who built us to the peak and those who carried us through the valley. It couldn’t have made it this far without the strength and will of those who held high the banner of the confederation. When one dropped the banner another came to lift it up and so too when he could no longer bear that banner another came to share the burden until at last the banner reached its goal to forever be seen by all. A flag in the wind, flapping proudly the colors of the red, blue, and gold.) Edited October 26, 2020 by paladinxo1
Luciloo 2649 Share Posted October 26, 2020 Lulubelle reads through the tome, her amber eyes flicking slowly across the script as golden lamplight flashes and flickers over the paper. She’s silent as she reads of the Kinstrife her cousin and King so frequently refers to, her dark brows knitted together and a troubled wrinkle spread across her forehead. Soon however she turns a page and her apparent dismay fades to an inspired smile as she reads of the Starbreakers being welcomed into the Confederation, and the unity and camaraderie which followed. The lass could place many names to faces, but as many were unknown to her, lost to history now. Nevertheless as the oil of her lamp began to burn low, she closed the heavy tome with a soft thump and sat back in her chair within the library. A moment of quiet thought followed, as the beardling now better understood the wounds of the past.
