“I swear to faithfully execute all that the Officers commands, to never desert the Legion, and to accept the sacrifices necessary for the destruction of forces that’d threaten the Almaris continent.“

- The Oath

The Legio I Alericum is based on the military forces  of Consul Fabius’ youth, which is declared in many of its sigils, traditions, and virtues. It is made up of volunteers from all nations who are ordinary men and women who have volunteered their lives for the sake of defending Almaris from external threats that would destabilize the continent and its peoples.

These ordinary men and women have seen the tragedy of the Arcas Continent, witnessing as Inferni massacred its people. They witnessed as they were thrown off. Lesser men would have given in, fallen on their sword, and wasted away in indifference at the sight of all they knew dying.

These are not lesser men. The Legionaries have heard the call to defend Almaris from the same tragedy. They will deploy themselves in centuries, cohorts, and their whole legion to scour the continent for the foe. They will achieve total victory by usage of formations of scale and power. They will do everything for the sake of final victory against the evil that plagues the world.

They will refuse to give in, even if the land would crack and burn around them. They will commit every last ounce of strength they have to fight off the darkness, ensuring their memory is etched onto the walls of history.

Legion Structure

Though the Legion is based on the olden mythos of the militaries of Lucius’s youth, he is not naive. There is, unfortunately, no capacity of an independent group to manufacture itself as a large force subsisting off the will of Legatus himself.

In order to better cope with the realities of the situations around himself, Lucius has put more focus onto the centuries of the Legion by making them smaller and giving the leaders of the Centuries integrity to perform as they believe necessary to achieve mission objectives.

The total structure is as so:

Each of the Centuriis are led by Centurions, with the exception being Centurii I, which is led by the Legatus himself. Each centurii will be made up of four members: Two legionnaires, a medicus, and one centurion.

A medicus is equipped with all the necessary medical gear required, an arbalest, and an arming sword; A legionary and a centurion is equipped with two pilums, an arbalest, a steel towershield, and an arming sword. The Centurion will also carry around a bugle for sounding to the rest of the Legion if required.

The Legatus is the leader of the Legion, solely responsible for setting required or optional mission objectives. Centurions are officers of the Legion with a wide berth to achieve predetermined mission objectives in the way that they see fit if they believe it necessary.

Furthermore, each centurion can plan centurii-specific missions with approval from the Legatus. However, in order to insistently make sure that the missions are able to continue to uphold the values of the Legion, Legatus Fabius has found it necessary to develop rules of engagement for the Legion’s perpetual survival.

Rules of Engagement

Nothing in these rules of engagement limits your right to take appropriate action to defend yourself and your centurii.

  1. You have the right to use force to defend yourself against attacks or threats of attack.

  2. Hostile fire may be returned effectively and promptly to stop a hostile act.

    1. Proportional response should be given to the hostile act.

  3. When Alerian forces are attacked by unarmed hostile elements, mobs, and/or rioters, Alerian forces should use the minimum force necessary under the circumstances and proportional to the threat.

  4. You may not seize property of others to accomplish the mission.

  5. You may not break the law of the nation’s land to accomplish the mission.

  6. Detention of civilians is authorized for security reasons or in self-defense.

  7. All Dark Creatures must be treated as Hostiles except in circumstances deemed necessary by the commanding officer:

    1. All Hostiles must be eliminated.

With this in mind, the Legion and its structures would be able to behave appropriately no matter the scenario.

Traditions & Sigils

The traditions of the Legion is key to its continuity with its past and it shares much in common in terms of formalities but the Alerians have come to terms that these traditions will hamper its effectiveness in the field.

In order to keep continuity between itself and the past, the Alerians have shifted much of the traditions to formal ceremonies.

Rank promotions to Centurionship are not handled formally, however, often being given a simple formal announcement and a new sigil and plume showing one’s new position in the legion at a meeting that the entire Legion is gathered with. It is the nature of the necessitated smallness of the legion that only plans for the whole Legion and funerals for Legionaries after battles are often the only formal ceremonies given.

However, in these ceremonies, sigils of the legions are given. Among these is the flag, or Vexillum, of the Legion:

Furthermore is the Aquila, a golden Eagle, that is carried around with the Legion to formal ceremonies. So important are these two symbols that no funeral or planning meeting can occur without them; They are core to the identities of the Legion itself.

These traditions are extremely important to keeping the integrity and cohesiveness of the Legion. In this, they can fully declare themselves for the goals of the legion: Destroying all threats to the realm.
