These knights have gone through the arduous trials to join the fraternity of elite warriors in service to the crown of Hanseti-Ruska. This atlas carries on from the previous ‘Book of the Marian Retinue’ begun by Ser Nikolaus Kortrevich ‘The Strong’. The task to update this atlas after the death of every knight or dame falls to the presiding Knight Paramount. –Ser Boris var Ruthern, Knight Paramount of Hanseti Ruska Ser Varon Kovachev “The Fierce” I Knight Paramount I King’s Champion @Arygon b. 1675 | d. Unknown Knighted by King Robert I of Haense, and named Knight Paramount upon the ascension of King Marius II to the throne. Ser Varon and King Marius II co-founded the Royal Order of the Marian Retinue. He served his Kingdom and lieges loyally for the better part of twenty years, his skill in combat earned him the moniker ‘The Fierce.’ He suddenly went missing in 1706, three years later he was declared deceased by the king. After years of being declared deceased, he made his unforeseen return to the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. A quick demand was issued on his part for him and his family to regain their previously held titles that had been withdrawn from them following his pronounced death. King Marius II saw no reason to befit him and his family with their titles and offered a bid for he and his kin to earn the trust that had been torn to disarray. Ser Varon quickly denied such an offer and openly declared his support for the Kingdom of Renatus. It is rumored that Ser Varon Kovachev once more during the mid-half of the war was presumed to be deceased by Haeseni Intelligence. No record is known of his whereabouts from that point on. Ser Henrik Ludovar “The Able, The Old Crow” Marian Knight @Legoboy7984 b. 1662 | d. 1730 Knighted by King Robert I of Haense, Ser Henrik was befitted the monikers; ‘The Able’ and ‘The Old Crow’ for his wisdom and discernment. He is among the few men who served under the Kingdom’s first knightly order, Knights of Bihar. After King Marius II ascension to the Royal throne, he is among four men who were distinguished as the first Marian Knights of the Marian Retinue following the dissolution of the Knights of Bihar. Ser Henrik Ludovar served in the Third Atlas Coalition War (1689-1692) and The War of the Two Emperors (1715-1721), fighting in almost every battle from the initial Siege of Nordengrad to the latter Battle of Leuven. Apart from his distinguished service as a war compatriot to those in both the Brotherhood of Saint Karl and the Haeseni Royal Army, Ser Henrik was the fifth Ducal patriarch of the honorable House of Ludovar from the winter of 1707 till his death in 1730. Ser Dominic Grimm “The Stalwart” III Knight Paramount III King’s Champion @Kanadensare b. 1656 | d. 1715 Knighted by King Robert I of Haense, Ser Dominic was dubbed the moniker; ‘The Stalwart’ for his valiant acts during the war against the Vaeyl Order throughout the Third Atlas Coalition War. Ser Dominic is renowned for his unmatched skill in swordsmanship and his exceptional understanding of the tactics of war. Dominic also saved King Marius II’s life during a skirmish between Haense and Renatus– dragging him from the field while wounded. He was appointed by King Marius II as the third Knight Paramount of Haense and the third Commandant Knight of the Marian Retinue after Ser Rodrik’s abrupt treachery. Following the outbreak of the War of the Two Emperors, the Kingdom charged Grimm to execute the turncoat Ser Jan Baruch following his betrayal of his country and kin. At a Royal Court summoning by King Marius II, Ser Jan presented himself and challenged the king to an honour duel. Ser Dominic Grimm presented himself to fight in the King’s stead, and swiftly put an end to the matter with the execution of the Baruch. Two years succeeding the honor duel, Ser Dominic was intercepted on the roads to Leuven by a raiding party. He fought bravely but was captured and beheaded by the turncoat Ser Rodrik Kortrevich in Helena square. At the age of fifty-nine, Ser Dominic’s body was sent to Kaer Glythen, the Aeldinic seat of House Grimm for burial. Ser Bjolfr Nord “The One-Legged” Marian Knight @GhostSHTR b. 1658 | d. 1728 Knighted by King Robert I of Haense, Ser Bjolfr was given the moniker; ‘The One-Legged’ after sustaining a leg injury from a September Prince cultist. He enlisted into the Brother of Saint Karl at the age of ten, under the directive of Lord Marshal, Rhys var Ruthern. Ser Bjolfr had several commanding roles during The Vaeyl Wars, most notably the assault on the Nekristadt Fortress. Throughout his enlistment in the brotherhood, King Robert I personally entrusted him to guard Prince Marius from early childhood and into adulthood. He is most recognized for his commanding efforts in the Siege of Arberrang which was among many of the Sieges that took place throughout The Third Atlas Coalition War. From 1696-1704, Ser Bjolfr was elected two-terms as the Maer of Markev and played a pivotal role in the migration to Arcas. During the Battle of Last Hope, Nord and Imperial General Tiberius were in charge of the siege weapons that ultimately made the entryway into the Red Vaeyl’s fortress. After years of sustained mental and physical illness, he was honorably discharged by King Marius and Knight Paramount Ser Nikolaus due to bouts of paranoia and other extenuating health debilities. Later in life, he served as a Royal Advisor to King Andrik III until his peaceful passing at the age of seventy. Ser Jan Baruch “The Bold, The Black” Marian Knight @SubscriptShark2 b. 1680 | d. 1714 Knighted by King Marius II of Haense, Ser Jan was the sixth knight granted the honor of being instated into the Marian Retinue. He was often regarded as quiet, reserved or rarely speaking, yet in battle he was the first to charge and face down the adversary. For that reason, he was dubbed, ‘The Bold.’ for his bravery and unwillingness to yield. At the outbreak of the War of the Two Emperors, Ser Jan Baruch broke his sworn oath and fled to the Kingdom of Renatus. From that point on, he fought fervently against the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and became known throughout the realm as an oath breaker and traitor. Following this, Lord Marius Baruch denounced and disowned his grandson from the House of Baruch. Respectfully so, King Marius II issued a Kingdom-wide denouncement beckoning those like him should by all accounts be recognized as traitors. Later on in the war, Jan made an unforeseen return to Old Reza and demanded an honor duel with King Marius II in a public court summoning. Following the acceptance of such duel, he was killed swiftly in an honor duel against Ser Dominic Grimm. Thereafter, dubbed as Jan ‘The Black’. From an early age, he quickly became known as one of the greatest swordsmen in Haense to date. Following that revelation, King Marius bestowed the rare styling as the King’s Champion. Early in his career, he killed ‘The False Crow’ in an honor duel in the name of King Marius II. His loyalty was seen as without question until the outbreak of The War of the Two Emperors where he forsook the vows he had made to the kingdom. King Marius II forthwith stripped any and all titles he held and specifically charged his elder cousin Ser Nikolaus Kortrevich to bring Rodrik to see consequence for his treasonous actions. Thereafter, being dubbed as Rodrik ‘The Turncoat’. Rodrik was a part of the raiding party that captured Ser Dominic Grimm and also executed the knight. It was rumored he was pronounced as the Grand Knight of the Imperium Renatum, reshaping their knightly structure to a more formidable standing. After the war had concluded and the Pertinaxi forces fled to Aeldin, Rodrik chose to leave with them briefly. Before he left, he granted full guardianship of his children Alessandra and Aleksandr to Ser Nikolaus. In 1750, Ser Rodrik returned from Aeldin and dueled his cousin in which the pair would perish. He was recognised for his prowess by his peers as a great swordsman of the era. As The War of the Two Emperors broke out, his cousin Rodrik abandoned the kingdom he had sworn to protect, at which Nikolaus sought to give proper justice to his turncoat kin. After the death of Ser Dominic Grimm, King Marius appointed Nikolaus with the position of Knight Paramount of Haense, Commandant Knight of the Marian Retinue and Royal Executioner. All throughout the war, Nikolaus fought bravely and instilled absolute fear onto his foes. He led a multitude of battles and took a commanding role in the Siege of Helena. By the time the war had concluded, Nikolaus desired to reconstruct the Marian Retinue into a more centralized and foreboding force. To do this, he appointed the experienced knights Ser Wilheim Barclay and Ser Thomas Raleigh into the order after the sudden passing of Ser Ulric Vyronov and the honorable discharge of Ser Gerard Stafyr. He would aid King Andrew III in the reformation of The Order of the Crow, a knightly order for those known for their dedication to the ideals of chivalry, honour and courage, as well as to defend the kingdom. During his tenure, he would serve as one of the longest knight paramounts for a total of thirty-five years. Ser Nikolaus would die in a final duel against his disowned cousin, Ser Rodrik “The Traitor''. Both would perish in the end, with Ser Nikolaus delivering the final blow. His actions aided in shaping the political scene of Haense for over sixty years, and even now. During the battle, he also covered the retreat of the Volik allies as they began to buckle and retreat. He would lead a long life in service to the order as he served over 50 years, and eventually retired under King Josef. He would pass peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. Ser Demetrius Ruthern ‘The Young’ Crow Knight @Aidoro b. 1747 | d. 1796 Knighted by King Sigismund II, he was one of the youngest Crow knights to enter the order on account of his ability with a sword. He was knighted at the age of fourteen, thus earning him the moniker ‘The Young’. During his life he served the royal family dutifully, acting as a father figure to Princess Nataliya. Demetrius saw combat in both the Scyfling War and Sutican War, where he served as a commander. As meteorites rained down upon Arcas and the descendants fled, he was killed defending the Princess Royal, Nataliya Reza of Haense, against bandits who wandered the road. Ser Ivan Robert Kortrevich ‘The Red Bull’ Crow Knight @erictafoya b. 1738 | d. 1798 Knighted by King Sigismund II, Ser Ivan was raised to the rank of Crow Knight after being the last squire of his generation and showing his initiative in the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. Throughout his entire childhood, Ivan only had one goal; to become a Knight of Haense like his ancestors. Ivan was known for his aggression in battle. He received his moniker ‘The Red Bull’ for being a member of House Kortrevich. Ser Ivan during his life was known as ‘Bykov’ after being disowned by his family, who only in death chose to reclaim him as a member of the House of Kortrevich. Ivan in his early life squired under Ser Aedan Capulei before being switched over to Ser Khroll. Ser Ivan would take on a number of squires and write several books during his lifetime, aiding in the reforging of knighthood. In his forty-seven year long career in military service, Ivan participated in five major conflicts. These conflicts included: The Ruberni War, The Battles of Boomhill, The Scyfling Invasion, The Sutican War, and The Inferi Invasion. During the second Battle of Boomhill, Ivan covered the retreat of his flank in which he saved the life of Prince Nikolas. Aboard a ship during the Inferi invasion, he would witness the death of his son Georg Bykov which would haunt him. Upon arrival in the new lands of Almaris, Ser Ivan would pass, defending his cousin, Lord Viktor Kortrevich. Ser Siegmund Wick ‘The Shepherd’ Crow Knight @SomebodyHelpMe b. 1723 | d. 1770 Knighted by King Sigismund II, Ser Siegmund received his moniker 'The Shepherd' for originally being the Captain of the Golden Hussar. He would be knighted into the Order of the Crow by King Sigismund II with the old orders eventual disbandment. During his career he fought in numerous wars including the Rubern War and the Scyfling War, once serving as Kapitan Knight of the Golden Hussar, as well as a part of the Barayan Company. During the Scyfling War, Ser Siegmund would give his life within the Great Battle of the North defending his liege, King Sigismund II. Ser Maverik Baruch ‘The Protector’ Marian Knight @Drew2_dude b. 1765 | d. 1806 Knighted by King Josef I of Hanseti-Ruska, Ser Maverik was raised to the immediate rank of Marian Knight after special recommendation by King Josef himself. Ser Maverik was dubbed the rank of "The Protector" for his ascension at a time when the Marian Retinue had grown smaller, and King Josef sought to renew its membership. Maverik served dutifully throughout his years including accompanying him at his right hand side as the kingdom was given its freedom. As King Josef took his last breath, he would run himself through with his own sword. Ser Boris Ruthern ‘The Persistent' VIIII Knight Paramount @GMRO b. 1755 | d. 1808 Knighted by King Josef I of Hanseti-Ruska, Ser Boris was raised to the rank of Crow Knight as the first squire to achieve the squire trials of the reformed knighthood under the Palatine, Sir Konstantin Wick. Boris took the name of the 'The Persistent' for his insistence despite his older age to become a knight, becoming a squire as soon as the old knighthood system had been displaced. Over his career, Boris served in numerous conflicts including that of the Scyfling, Sutican and Inferi wars. During the Scyfling campaign, Boris served dutifully at the Battle of the North, aiding in the protection of the retreating Volik forces. During this, Boris had his arm cut off by a Scyfling Shaman. After the end of the Scyfling war, Boris began his trials for knighthood eventually concluding with fighting a Fleugl in the ruined bay of Vasiland. Ser Boris was raised to knight Paramount by King Josef I and oversaw the renewal of the knighthood that had begun under Sir Konstantin, bringing a number of new knights into the order and overseeing their quests. During his tenure, his group of knights would go on various quests. Ser Boris died during one of the Rimeveld troll raids upon the city of Karosgrad, being smashed into the ground by the trolls club. Dame Anabela Ruthern ‘The Ember, The Alcoholic' Crow Knight @Eryane b. 1781 | d. 1809 Knighted by King Josef I, Dame Anabela was bestowed the epithet of “The Ember” for her previous escape of three massive fires (including the destruction of her homeland, Vitenna) prior to her knighthood and posthumously “the Alcoholic”. Additionally, it was considered to resemble her haughty and caustic characteristics and her status as one of the few remaining members of the House Vilac. Dame Anabela sought interest in the Knights of Hanseti-Ruska since near the age of eight, when she was first a page to the Knight Paramount Ser Boris Ruthern and the then Count of Metterden, Aleksandr Ruthern after wandering upon the stony keep of Helmholtz without parentage. Once squired officially under Ser Boris, she finished her first and most strenuous knight trials over the course of two months, and the others swiftly followed. In her final knight trial, she faced an ice-creature in the caves north of Karosgrad and saved three Haeseni from captivity within the creature’s frozen cavity. She would later return to the very cave after arranging an expedition with the assistance of a tribal elf near the frozen wastelands who knew well of the creatures within the cave, where she acquired her first page and later squire, Lady Mariya Amador, later Queen Mariya of Aurveldt. After she was knighted, Dame Anabela served loyally under the jurisdiction of both King Josef I and later King Heinrik II, with two squires. Those being, Queen Mariya of Aurveldt and Ser Hildebrand Mondblume. She was honorably discharged after eight years of service, and died a year following. Throughout her life, Dame Anabela was known for her intensive drinking and highly unhealthy consumption of Carrion Black (having even been said to have beat the King Josef I twice in a drinking contest). The Dame and Margravine consort of Greyspine consumed such a high amount of Carrion Black that she would pass away one evening as a result of her addiction, thus receiving the moniker “the Alcoholic”. Ser Viktor Rauen ‘The Valiant' Marian Knight @Pureimp10 b. 1768 | d. 1811 Ser Viktor 'the Valiant' Rauen was born in 1768 FA in Aeldin, in the Heartlands of the Aeldenic Empire. Growing up, he had heard stories of the works of his ancestor, Ser Geralt Rauen, who had enlisted in the Haeseni Royal Army under King Otto III and rose through the ranks to become Lord Marshal. Geralt, after the death of Otto III, went on to found various villages in the south of Atlas, leaving a permanent mark on that continent. Viktor sailed to Haense driven to achieve greatness like his ancestor had. He took no interest in becoming a common soldier, but wanted instead to be a knight in Haense. His arrival in the Kingdom saw him introduced to King Josef, who admired his swordsmanship and took him on as a Marian Knight, one of the King's sworn bodyguards. Viktor served valiantly, as his moniker would suggest, throwing himself into danger to defend the royal family on many occasions. He took part in the closing of the Scyfling War, the Inferi invasion of Arcas, and finally, the attack of the Trolls. Viktor died defending the city of Karosgrad from the trolls in 15 SA. He is not survived by anyone, as he had no wife and sired no children. Ser Brandt Barclay ‘The Patient' Crow Knight @GoodGuyMatt b. 1775 | d. 1815 Before Ser Brandt was knighted by King Josef I, he led a previously fulfilling life. Following the Barclay tradition of joining the military early, to the path of him becoming a Master-At-Arms, Royal Smith and alas, a Sergeant of the HRA. It took him many years to achieve such, and his name still spirals about the streets of Hanseti-Ruska, a result of his mastery upon polearms; an afamed warrior. So many thought him to be a well rounded man, with a good heart -- always wanting the best for his people, and country. So when Ser Brandt was knighted in the year of 1801, and at the age of forty-four the masses cheered his name. A sector of his life was afforded to the life of politics, serving as an Alderman over a four year stint. He too served during the Scyfling War, being a part of the many battles of that age. This is where the knight lost his eye, during a battle, where a select few soldiers countered the invading Scyfling men, upon horseback. This inexperience eventually led to expertise, and he displayed such during the days of Karosgrad, and the War of the Trolls. In one instance, saving the to-be Paramount, Alric Ruthern from death, as he pulled the man out of the line of sight of a firing cannon. During his later years as a knight, and after the death of an Aulic council, Brandt was selected to become the next Royal Treasurer. A natural choice, considering the knight often boasted brimming coffers, and pockets -- but the mind of a merchant also, as displayed during his time as Alderman. An experienced businessman and economist, always striving to aid his nation. Alike Ser Viktor and Ser Boris, the knight met his untimely death to a troll, during the battle of Reinmar. Defending his homeland. Ser Alric Ruthern ‘The Cavalier’ Knight Paramount @biggestdon b. 1775 | d. Unknown Knighted by King Heinrik II of Hanseti-Ruska, the tenure of Ser Alric as Marian Knight was unexpectedly cut short, due to his ascension to that of Knight Paramount. This was following the death of his cousin, Ser Boris, the late Paramount, who had crossed the great divide, in the very sight of the aspiring Ruthern knight. So upon that ascension, Ser Alric was fueled by such death, and pursued his vocation to not allow the work of his uncle to collapse. Alric was bestowed the moniker ‘The Cavalier’, due to either, his undying, persistent and loyalty to the Crown, or how the Ser at some points was known to be a womaniser -- especially in his youth. During those years he was described to be a sprightly and vigorous man, carrying a natural prowess in swordplay; gaining the title of ‘Grand Champion of Karosgrad’, in which he was elevated to that of a Sergeant in the HRA hurriedly. In later years, he was described as simply carrying the patience of his job; resigned. Saging those who came to him, and affording more squires and pages. He maintained the prosperity of the Orders, on the will of his uncle, flourishing in numbers and presence. He too improved the orders, developing the culture and traditions, and also establishing a place for them to properly meet alas. Otherwise, during his tenure, the Paramount was one followed by scandal. He found himself in court; on claims of assault on the current Vyronov Lord, Stefan. The claims were judged as to be true, and the Paramount was found guilty -- being branded with the letter ‘A’, and fined by the Crown. The rest of his tenure was spent predominantly in times of calamity and peace, in which he put his sword and heart on the line for Koeng and country. Yet, all that he did behind closed doors is still speculated today. In fact, the last sighting of him was at the wedding of Koeng Heinrik I and Koenas Annika Vyronov, he has since disappeared. Such things that were speculated have been the following; he had his wife killed, due to her abrupt disappearance; he had several bastard children (some known); prone to violence as seen in the trial. This was abrupt in his demeanour and personality, as he shifted from being a charming, well-spoken figure to a distantly ominous and feared figure. A detached man. Some say witchery was behind him.
