They were young and energetic, yet stood with great discipline before His Holiness. The nameless recruits simply did what they were told, with their Captains Erik & George observing them closely. Handshake after handshake, a thank you after thank you. His Holiness was pleased with being able to express a fundamental feeling he had carried around.

His Knight-Regent though observed them curiously for their formations, as the Abbot & Cardinal made commentary on outfits and colour schemes. Not all were there for the same intentions as His Holiness: but that was okay, as they did not interrupt the ceremony. The ISA to him was something that held a weird place in his heart. He wasn't always supportive of them in spats over the autonomy of Kaedrin perhaps, but they, like any soldier, came through when it was needed.

To see young men serve their nation unquestioningly, was sobering. Thoughts of the disfigured Brandt Barclay, or the ISA rescuing the Governor-General's grandchild, a HRA patrol defending him from bandits flew through his head. The funerals, the ceremonies & the parades. Throughout the modern and ancient history of his life: law, order and servitude were virtues that dragged him through any sorrow or trouble. Even if it was just a handshake and a speech. To Owyn III, it was an opportunity to finally express a gratitude that had festered for many years.

SECOND PAPAL BRIEF OF 1803, 356 ES

Holy Orenian Empire, Providentia

OWYN III, pontifex maximus, servus servorum Dei, episcopus Sancta Sedes,

Wishes to inform its congregations of a most productive meeting between His Holiness the High Pontiff & the Holy Orenian Emperor, accompanied by Crown Prince John Charles and Monsignor Ed Myre. This was the first meeting between the Imperial and Ecclesiastical government since the Pontifical enthronement of 1802. The cultural relevance of the Holy Mother Church and the upcoming funeral procession of the late Empress Anne were discussed.

The Holy Mother Church is pleased to find that the importance of the faith remains high within the government of Oren, and that in many fields from judicial to spiritual an understanding exists between both parties. While the Holy Mother Church always encourages the representation of its congregations in the state apparatus, something which the late Empress had made possible by establishing a mature Imperial democracy, it leaves them open to hostile discourse which dabbles in secularism and nihilism: something that the Holy Mother Church had been concerned about for decades. However, the Empire and His Imperial Majesty seems to remain intimately interwoven into the Canonist faith: rendering most of these worries, in hindsight, to have been unnecessary. His Holiness hopes that his clergy shall partake in the democratic process more actively, and to become more visible on the streets of Providence.

The Holy Mother Church had reaffirmed to His Imperial Majesty its commitment to neutrality, and the hope for continued harmonious relations between the Canonist nations. While each nation has their own obstacles, grudges & differences: they are all GOD's flock, and to His Holiness, valuable humans of cultural and spiritual excellence.

In that spirit, His Holiness had been greatly interested in the militaries of Hanseti-Ruska & the Holy Orenian Empire: attending a training of the latter in company of his Knight-Regent, Cardinal Albarosa & Abbot Ademar. After greeting each individually, His Holiness held an impromptu speech regarding the sanctity of service and the gratitude he felt for theirs. Not only are they the blades of the Fidei Defensor, but they like any soldier serve a higher calling: their sovereign, mandated by GOD to bring order and prosperity to his leal subjects and citizens.

It is hoped that the Holy Mother Church can resolve its scheduling with Marshal Barclay @Coolcod77soon, as His Holiness hopes to bless the troops of the former Brotherhood of St. Karl and thank them for their performance in Karosgrad in person. In the meantime, it is asked of all clergymen to thank the troops for their service and to diligently provide them sermons and confessions where possible. For not all are willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for their kindred, their nation & their king.

Te Deum.

PONTIFEX MAXIMUS

OWYN III
