squakhawk 7208 Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2021 Lore Shelving & The Status of Botany Hello everyone, Squak from Story Management here for a short update. This is by no means representing the whole team (focusing on Lore specifically), nor the quarterly update you are to expect- but given how there are a few things to announce, it is best to put it in such a post rather than flooding announcements as a humble rep farmer. In this announcement, I'll be covering some updates (effective immediately) regarding some Lorepieces on the server. Regarding Shamanism Shamanism has been in a troubled state. After a stagnant two-year rewrite WIP, it was released Late June and effective Early August as a whole unit. With some kinks to work out with the TA distribution, the magic toughed through switching hands every couple weeks. However, as problems kept cropping up and issues kept surmounting, a mass-set of changes and amendments were suggested as early as October, by Shamans alike and not. After the lack of any form of submission, changes, or so on- the ST took it within their own hands to amend some of the lore. Even then still witnessing issues, and as the Activity Trial added up and finished - it was amounted that only three (of nine) sects of Shamanism had passed their activity trial with more students than teachers. Only one sect of Shamanism managed to succeed with a second generation of students. Two shamanism sects outright shelved themselves after the third or fourth reassignment of TAs. However, as personally I and the ST aren't quite partial to shelving all sects- we've a different solution in mind. Elementalisms We'll be shelving all six Elementalisms for the time being. Given uncountable problems with the lore itself, we also have to note how it did get by teaching. Like mentioned- two sects of Shamanism outright shelved themselves, that being Fire and Water Ele. Storm and Metal have no current or active students. Earth Ele was the only sect in the entirety of the hub magic to produce a new-generation TA. Because of all this, and even admission from current loreholders and teachers, Elementalism will be shelved and unpracticeable until a new rewrite is to come out. Farseer and Witch Doctery Farseer and Witch Doctery will be staying in the genre and permitted to make community-wanted amendments and changes. The only hard-in ST request is for some spell-splitting in Witch Doctery, which we are working out with the community on what that may specifically mean- but the idea does still exist. Lutaumancy The only sect which was never quite granted that "Second Chance", Lutaumancy is a legitimately interesting sect of shamanism with a lot of potential. Thusly, it will be granted that second chance it did not get, and will have two grandfathers who are previous students (or previously invested in the magic) and familiar. As the magic has no real issues, it will be given no changes unless requested or amended like any other lorepost. Treants Treants have been in a problematic piece of lore ever since their inception. I place that fault upon myself. The lore was inadequately reviewed, the guide was inadequate to the lore, and it was handled poorly. From day one there were issues of lore, which is fairly expected. But despite this, the days and weeks went by and more and more issues piled up. It's ended to an ST was responsible for the rewrite. After constantly-piling issues, he handed it to another ST, who promptly handed it to another. This final ST, TimberBuff, ended up with a changelist that amounted to a full rewrite of the lore - longer than the lore itself. With this, it's unacceptable that something like this could get fully rewritten and still stay accepted and with the same players. For this, Treants are going to be shelved awaiting player rewrite. Treants have one week (Until February 1st, 2021) to wrap up their RP before their characters go to their slumber trees for some time. Botany and Alchemy After a half-dozen bugs to come out we've been solidly ironing out any issues with Tech Team and making sure our Botany Plugin is up to spec. We've worked hard and have added in all of the herbs, although we are still adding duplicates and more nodes every day. Currently their cooldown is fairly short, and if the bug still exists, they do reset on restart. But that is all, for the most part. With this aswell, we've cleared our long backlog of Botany Submissions, and they will be open to submission oncemore. It is heavily advised botany pieces meant to be widely available or used for themselves rather than signs, that they do not have signs/symbols attached. Any herb with Signs or Symbols will require noding and ST Sign, and we are discouraging adding more ST-Signed herbs currently. Of course, should any questions, concerns, or comments be had, please state them below or make an Sreq. My DMs on discord and the forums are always open if one needs to talk, discuss, or share thoughts and opinions. A grand thank you to the communities outreached regarding the shelving - we are glad we could come to a good compromise and understanding. A thank you to all ST and Players who have had hand in working together for both Botany and these shelvings. It is the outlook of the ST that lore is of excellent quality and is a mystical, spreading-thing, rather than something limited to just one or two people. Neither most of Shamanism or Treants had any plans originally to be shelved, but after circumstance proved it was the best course of action, the actions above were taken accordingly. I was told the cooldown on herb nodes was 5 hours, did this change? The story team have a very warped perspective on what "fairly short" means if the cooldown is the same. And while we're at it since tech team said it was up to you all, the ST team, change the herbs to be player based instead of server based. I'm sick and tired of having to run halfway across the map to grab an herb from a node and see that someone else got to it first. Like I said in the tech discord we don't have fight over each other for vortex nodes, herbs should be the same.
