It’s finally 2021. It sure has been a hectic year and I think we can all be glad that it’s over. Following this, I’m going to be trying to get out posts every month to keep things transparent with the community and the moderation team. I know people don’t like being left in the dark! The team and I are all excited to keep you guys updated and we are also excited to take in more feedback than previously. I took it upon myself to write a little feedback form that you guys can fill out anonymously every month. (p.s the form is at the end of the post!) ANNOUNCEMENTS Interviews are in progress and new applicants are still being accepted. In addition see below for new projects and the link to give feedback. PROJECTS Almaris War-Rewrite [COMPLETED]Over the past months to even a year, the server has been sort of in a limbo of not having a definitive set of war rules and guidelines for how the community can proceed with meaningful conflict. After the project changed hands a couple times we put together a team and created a system over the past month. While some wars have been allowed to proceed they lacked consistency, staff backing and a sense of urgency for conflict to be taken seriously. We have now finished our first draft of LoTC's new War System. With wars, this post and these rules are not the final stop on our path to creating meaningful conflict on the server, as we are doing with the server rules, player feedback is incredibly important, as is transparency. So in addition to server rules, there will also be a post with a change log of any changes made to the system. In addition to hotfixes and player suggestions, we also have a set of planned updates or expansions on the war systemWar Post War RulesProject Lead: Markosi, Basket Permitted Server Mods [IN PROGRESS] This project is simply about the permitted mods on the server. There will be clarifications about what kind of mods can be used and rules around them. I can’t touch much on it because nothing is decided until we get public feedback but we're hoping to have it finished sometime during February. Project Lead: Peachcool Moderation Feedback [IN PROGRESS]In order to better serve the community and take more accountability in our duties as moderators, we are going to actively keep open and review feedback given to moderation. See this link to give moderation feedback. Project Lead: Peachcool Forum Cleanup [IN PROGRESS]In order to keep our forums clean and organized we are currently working on improving our archiving and ensuring our forums are orderly while making it easier for members of our community to access what they are looking for.Project Lead: Devvy Active Interviewing [IN PROGRESS] In the past our interviewing has been infrequent and usually done with large groups of applicants at a time. We are moving to more regularly bring on new mods and improve our interview process to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to interview and we are able to gain more insight in the process.Project Lead: TheIchorDruid Coup rules [IN PROGRESS]Expansion of the Rule System to cover internal conflict such as civil wars, coup d'etat and other situations where War is not between two separate nations, but instead groups within a nation.Project Lead: MuyPollo STATISTICS Moderation received 1,171 tickets during the month of January. Their quota is based on 3% of total tickets, this does not include their activity requirements involving reports, appeals and interviewing. Markosi, Devvy, Basket Ticket Quota Exempt Arockstar28 (crazyeights11), Gemini on Extended Hiatus Bawggie (SpookyMachine) resigned from the team. CURRENT ROSTER https://www.lordofthecraft.net/staff/ ROSTER CHANGES -@MayRndz has joined Moderation. @Scourge has joined Moderation.@GMRO has joined Moderation.@Totalitarian has joined Moderation. - @Potatatoes has joined Moderation Trainers @peachcool became the Moderation Secretary - @Bawg stepped down from the team. - CONCLUSION Every month the team will be answering any questions here that are brought up in the feedback form. So, if you have anything to say please fill that out! Thank you for taking the time to read this. A little message from the departing @Bawg: -Dear Moderation Team, I would like to thank you all for a good experience on the team. During my time, we filled in grey areas to push our community into the right direction. I certainly hope that this is a continuing cycle even when I have long gone. As a moderator, you have chosen to not be the fan favorite or the best buddy. You have chosen to bring fairness to all players and do the right thing for the server. The last thing I ask of you is to be that role model for the players. Be the right person at the right time. It is your duty to be the shining example of the server. I appreciate all the work you have done so far, but you have plenty more to finish. Take care, guys. - Cheers, LotC Moderation Team Have feedback for the team? Fill this out!

Cloakedsphere 510 Share Posted January 31 I am going to be 100% honest and say that these tasks "in progress" are doing nothing to actually help underlying issues of LotC. I know you're moderation team, but pressure story team into creating more events for the whole server and not just a small select group of players to keep the server entertaining. Cleaning up the forums, Interviewing people for certain tasks, and coup rules are things that need attention, sure, but they're at the bottom of the list in terms of priority. You cant have the server sit for another 2-3-4 months or more waiting for rules to be finished writing and expect people to stick around in game. We need to pressure other staff teams (mainly story team and admin team) to push out more events and more meaningful updates to players in game. Not on the forums. The vortex craze is wearing off. The new-ness of the map is already wearing off. People are already starting to drop here and there. I'd like to see some of these types of problems addressed before ANY of the in-progress stuff you've listed. Thank you though for taking the time to break down what you're doing.

Which should have the ability and power to pressure other groups to do their jobs and should offer help to the VARIOUS other teams. As both of us are prior GM's, we should both understand that we are all on the same team, even if the title above our heads is different.

As both of us are prior GM's, we should both understand that we are all on the same team, even if the title above our heads is different. All these teams have their own feedback avenues, use them. The Moderation team is here to handle moderation, rules, wars, etc, not to be the official staff-player peer-pressure instrument. There was a public community meeting today where a lot of what you bring up was discussed, and there are places such as the Lore Discord, Tech Discord, etc. Staff applications are always open as well! :)

As both of us are prior GM's, we should both understand that we are all on the same team, even if the title above our heads is different. I say this politely so you can have some understanding about the nature of events right now and what's happening. Moderators are no longer Global Moderators and have not been for 3-4 years. This shift was made ages ago and remains that way. Neither do Team Leads exist anymore; they are just admins. On top of that, the server's activity is not entirely supplemented by events and never has been, and events are not done to create trickle down role-play. It's not up to staff to force players to role-play or constantly drive their personal rp with a stimulus. It's our job to write plotlines players can opt-in to and have fun when they'd like, and that's the primary focus of the Event Sect of the Story Team. Events are done to create cohesive overarching narratives and plotlines and are consistently worked on. Even during our brief pause where we had our Manager on a well-earned hiatus after the Inferi eventline, many ET (Spoon I can imagine off the top of my head firstly) did continue to do events for people. Without oversight we cannot do major global events as those are kept to management. It is not the prerogative of Moderation to intersect and make demands of other teams. It'd be equally as obtuse to have a Community Team member ordering Moderators around. Our teams have been re-stratified multiple times. In my opinion, as a former Global Moderator as well, this is wonderful! There should be no pressure as you put it because back during the Inferi eventline, I was spending 4-5 hours per event, on top of college and my part-time job. Are you saying that I should be putting in tons of these hours fo hard work into an overarching global plotline every single week and getting zero respite to attend to my real life duties? Just to be told by some Moderator that I hardly know, who is not involved with my team at all, to behave a certain way when conducting my events when they aren't even good at doing events? I find that to be an unreasonable expectation personally and I really do disagree.
