A Case For Model UN

Hello everyone,

I have been a member of this community for a while, and on the server since 2015. It's been such an experience to give to the collective story told by all of us here on LotC. I'm writing this today to urge everyone and anyone who's reading this to join your local Model UN team. I've just been through a weekend conference at Boston University, BOSMUN, and it was my first experience with Model UN. After joining my High School's Model UN team at the beginning of this year I can say without a doubt that it has been the most enjoyable group of people I've ever been a part of. I'm here today to urge all of you to join your local Model UN team, whether it's sponsored by your school, through a separate club, library, or college.

Firstly, Model UN requires many skills that are gained through time spent on LotC. I'm not here trying to tell you that you can speak Japanese by watching Anime. You will need to put in the work and the effort to learn the procedures and practices that come with participating in the club. What I'm trying to say is that the writing, cooperation, and leadership gained through the role-play experience is shared between both LotC and MUN. You will find that things like acting as your country's representative and working with others comes quite easily, or at least was my experience. I have learned a lot through my time on this server when it comes to writing and the mechanics of writing. This again translates rather well to MUN, with both interpretive and informative writings being crucial to the club.

Secondly, Model UN promotes social exchanges with those others at your school. You heard me my fellow Minecraft role-players, there are tons of other people just like us if you look a few doors down!

I have made genuine and real friends through my brief time spent on our High School's team, and while I'm not guaranteeing that you'll find like-minded people in your communities club, there's a good chance you'll find people you can have a conversation with. I know that during this pandemic it's been rather difficult for people to connect and I promise you that putting yourself out there, even if it's some other club or group, will yield results.

Finally, Model UN is genuinely the most fun thing I've ever done in my academic career. Investing yourself in the problems, needs, and wants of the country you represent and expressing yourself through public speakings and writings is really something that can't be matched by any other activity. It allows you to experience that same freedom and fun that is felt when role-playing as your character on this server. I promise you that if you involve and apply yourself the work required is really not terrible, and is dwarfed by the joy you will feel when working at it with your club and friends you make at the conference.

Thanks everybody for reading my paragraphs about this amazing activity that is Model UN!
