Edict of Outlawry - Antonio de Rivera

Issued 18th of Snow’s Maiden, in the Year 14 of the Second Age

BY ORDER OF THE CROWN AND FAITH,

Antonio de Rivera is, for crimes which have just come to light, to be declared an outlaw within the lands of Norland. Of the many statutes of our temporal and sacred laws, the accused is found guilty of the following:

  • I.   Treason, by way of tarnishing the name of the Kingdom, for the abduction and assassination of a foreign official.
  • II.  Murder, for the aforementioned killing.
  • III. Violation of the Codes of Honor and the sacred laws of the Faith, by way of forcing another man onto his knees.
  • IV.  Conspiracy to commit the crimes enumerated.

For these crimes, the guilty party is hereby declared an outlaw within the lands of Norland. His titles are hereby declared void. His lands shall be held by the crown until such time as a suitable inheritor can be found. The militaries of Norland are, by Royal decree, ordered to immediately see to the apprehension of the outlaw, Antonio de Rivera. Should he be sighted anywhere within lands governed by the Norlandic Throne, he is to be immediately put to the sword. May the Father have mercy on his soul, for the Throne and Faith have none to spare.

Signed,

Halvar Edvardsson, King of Norland, Duke of Varhelm, Protectors of Highlanders

Halvar Edvardsson would have the edict spread throughout the land. More of a formality to his allies in Haense if anything, as he was at that moment watching the body of Antonio de Rivera be hung from one of the branches of the Ashwood tree for his crimes. The aging king taking time to ponder on why he now felt so little at a sight which used to crack away at the deeply empathetic heart of his younger self.

A pious Prince in the Augustine praises the decisiveness of the King of Haense, and even the pagans of Norland, to a collection of soldiers assigned to his guard,

"There, then. This is where the King of Haense stands, with God. And so the Nordling King has plucked a poison from his nation. There is only virtue in this, I should hope to see this Rurikid in virtuous skies. The Lord above is no doubt pleased, where when pagans have murdered a man of His flock, they have been purged from their own nation."

Ancelie stands beside her beloved husband Halvar, watching the consequential results of this particular edict transpire right before her very eyes. The Queen of Norland tore her gaze away from the scene and instead focused solely on supporting her loved one in such a time. Nevertheless, she knew that the burdens of death and treason never grew easier. Although she was saddened by the young Antonio's death, she knew it was a necessary fate for one who had tarnished the name of the Kingdom.

"Credit where credit's due. To both kings and the Keeper." Ailred mumbled, still in shock over the death.

"Justice has been brought.", Alfred says, staring at one point of his room as he contemplates the death of his close friend, his brother Francisco. "As quickly as justice is brought, their cheeks, honor, and dignity are tainted, and they will remain as long as there are people like the damned Antonio. I curse both him and his family!", he says in rage, trying to calm himself before a prayer for the dead.
