A Musin thinking about what weapon to use when going to slaughter the innocents of nations that oppose the Musin kind.

As the General and representative of all Musin kind, I believe that it is necessary to begin building a stockpile of weapons and armor to hand out to civilians and warriors alike so that all mouse folk may be prepared for this upcoming war. It is advised that all Musin arm themselves, even if they are not looking to participate in this war (though nearly all are - beware giants!). This missive will serve as a booklet to all the weapons of the Musin kind so that other mouse folk can easily choose which weapon they believe fits them best.

Single-Handed Weapons

While there are many single-handed weapons that we mouse folk can use, I will be going over the most basic and effective weapons for one-handed use.

Needle - The needle, a weapon I was named after. Unmatched by any other weapon, be it single-handed or two-handed - this weapon can easily pierce the cracks in the armor of giants and Musin, creating an unmatched force when presented on the field of war.

Fishing Hook - A multi-purpose weapon and one of a kind. This weapon sinks into the flesh of giants and creates a painful wound when pulled out because of the barb on the end of it. This weapon can also be used to scale up tall buildings, akin to the giant’s grappling hooks. With the addition of fishing wire on the end of such a weapon, it can be pulled back to the user, though be careful that the giant doesn’t pull on it and send you to the clouds.

Matchstick - A weapon preferred by Musin lacking the coin for proper weaponry, the matchstick is a great weapon to scare away giants. While the matchstick proves to be nothing more than a nuisance when not lit, when on fire it is a weapon of mass destruction. Not only can it burn wounds onto giants and set their wears on fire, but it can also burn down entire buildings, creating a needed distraction for when you’re surrounded.

Scissors - While not used in the traditional sense in how someone would use scissors, if the blades of such a tool are split from the handle it can create a serious threat. This weapon can also be dual-wielded because each pair of scissors breaks into two blades.

Two-Handed Weapons

While single-handed weapons do allow for us mouse folk to strike quickly, sometimes you may need to pack a little extra punch when fighting the giants. This is where I introduce the two-handed weapons, which are normally larger and can cause more pain than the single-handed ones.

Broken Glass - An easy weapon to obtain, this weapon is nearly invisible if the correct shade of glass is chosen. Merely breaking a bottle on the ground can supply a small squadron with enough weapons to destroy a whole giant. Careful when gripping - make sure you wrap the bottom of it for a secure handle and so that you do not cut yourself.

Dagger - While this may be a human weapon, small daggers can easily be utilized by the mouse folk who have bigger muscles - such as myself. These weapons can also be easily stolen from sleeping guards, as they are small to giants and often go unnoticed, though be wary when using them - if you tire, this weapon will only be dead weight.

Short Swords - Perhaps the largest of all useable weapon by the Musin kind, these swords require two hands and constant attention and effort to wield. Only the strongest of Musin (such as myself - General Needle) could use such weapons effectively.

Wooden Spear - While some Musin calls this a tribal weapon, I call it using your surroundings. A key weapon in the natural warfare that will happen around the Nation of Elvenesse. These spears are created by breaking off branches and sharpening them against stones and other various objects, such as knives. The more crude the tip of the spear is, the harder it will be to stab through the skin, though if such a weapon is left being crude, it will cause many internal splinters.

Shields

While shields are impossible to use when dual-wielding weapons, they are a legitimate tool to hold when using single-handed weapons, as even one strike blocked could save your life, though deciding the correct shield for yourself can be a struggle.

Button Shield - A shield made from a button that is medium-sized but is also heavy due to the metals that they are made out of, those being often copper or bronze,  and while certain buttons made out of porcelain are lighter, they often break easier as well. This is the most standard type of shield for Musin.

Wooden Shield - A small wooden shield often shaped as the user liked it. These shields are less prone to breaking and are less heavy than button shields most of the time, though they often take many more labor-intensive hours to make. The most common shapes are tower shields, kite shields, and buckle shields.

Turtle Shell Shield - It is possible that a Musin is left with no other options than a shield made by nature itself - and in this case, a turtle shield is the best option for us, seeing as they are the strongest and largest of shields, but also the heaviest. It is advised that smaller turtle shells are used for this, though larger ones can also be cut up for easier handling.

Coin Shield - In the most desperate times, a Musin or member of the mouse folk may have to rely on an object which they have thieved to keep them safe. In these scenarios, the coin shield is the best option. This shield is the smallest of all shield choices for a musin, but it is also very easy to use in a pinch.

Armor

Armor is an essential part of staying alive as a Musin, as our small statures often make us more susceptible to slashes and other attacks. All armor must be custom fit for the Musin kind.

Scrap Leather Armor - Armor that is often derived from dead animals and the scraps of giant’s shoes, this armor provides good protection against slashing attacks but offers little to prevent getting stabbed. Overall a good and cheap armor.

Custom Metal Armor - While leather armor may be good against slashes, many of us wish to be protected from stabs and slashes, and thus we turned to Metal Armor. Made by a few smiths of the Musin kind, these sets of armor are incredibly rare and valuable, though they offer incredible protection.

Miscellaneous & Ranged Items

While all of the options above are only useful in close range, there are a few options for longer-ranged engagements and to prevent from being stomped on.

Caltrop - A wonderful weapon to prevent yourself from being stomped on - it is advised that Musin who are strong wear one on their back so that giants think twice before stepping. These can also be thrown to assist in escaping.

Slingshot - A perfect weapon for Musin attempting to shoot out a giant’s eye, this weapon is extremely quick to use and is a great way to buy time when in a hurry.

Special Notes

While most of the things listed above seem like very static ideas, this is far from the truth. It is recommended that blades are swapped out with animal claws and teeth to add to their usefulness.

If you’d like to supply the Musin-kind for our upcoming war, please send a letter to myself - Needle.

Signed,
General Needle ‘The Warmonger’, leader of the Musin army and warriors, bravest of them of all Musin, destroyer of nations.
