The Vortice Protectorate

THE VORTICE PROTECTORATE

The continuous assault on the Unified Domain of Vortice has left them damaged to the core. Raiding, banditing, kidnapping - after almost a decade of continuous violence, the sovereign and their council knew it was enough. Turning to their close friends in the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, Vortice understood that entering into a protectorate was essential to restore peace and prosperity. With such in mind, the Grand Kingdom of Urguan and the Unified Domain of Vortice hereby agree to:

 

SECTION I: PEACE & NON-AGGRESSION

The Grand Kingdom of Urguan and the Unified Domain of Vortice, hereby referred to as ‘the signatories’, declare that any individuals affiliated with their nation, militaries, or clans/houses shall not engage in hostile or combative action against the other signatory. If such actions do occur, both signatories agree to deal with said problems through diplomacy.

 

       I. THE signatories hereby officially enter into a pact of non-aggression.

 

       II. THE signatories hereby recognize the sovereignty of both nations.

 

       III. THE signatories recognize their respective sovereigns as the rightful leaders of their nations.

 

       IV. THE signatories shall avoid conflicts that could potentially put them at odds with one another.

 

       V. THE signatories and their residents shall be protected whilst in one another’s lands.

 

       VI. THE signatories agree that any attacks by third-party groups with no affiliation to them shall not be a breach of non-aggression.

             A. The signatories recognize that attacks by internal rebels are also not a breach of non-aggression.

 

SECTION II: PROTECTORATE ESTABLISHMENT

The signatories recognize that a protectorate must be formed to reestablish peace in the lands of Vortice. To formalize said protectorate, both parties agree:

 

       I. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall henceforth be considered a Protectorate State of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan.

 

       II. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall relinquish the ability to create or maintain foreign diplomacy or treaties, handing said power over to Urguan.

 

       III. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall pay the Grand Kingdom of Urguan 50 mina per stone week for their protection.

 

       IV. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall allow the Legion of Urguan control of their military during times of conflict, regardless of it being a raid, rescue attempt, war, etc.

 

       V. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall permit the Legion of Urguan to construct a fort to house their legionnaires and assist in the nation’s defense.

 

       VI. THAT the Unified Domain of Vortice shall remain internally autonomous, with the Grand Kingdom having no political say in their government.

 

       VII. THAT the signatories shall establish a ferry between their nations to allow for ease of travel.

 

       VIII. THAT the sovereign of Vortice may petition the Grand Kingdom of Urguan to remove the protectorate status.

 

Shall these oaths sworn to each other not require renewal.

Bakir Ireheart would wonder now how the orcs would force Vortice into being a tributary once more. Chuckling he knew that if the orcs tried  such a thing it would be a comedic story for him to tell his children.

Joseph Brandt, already on return from the rescue of Vortice's people from the Rustlers and the liberation of their keep, assessed the wounded and dead men at his side. To call upon the might of the Imperial State Army for their protection, only to sign with the Dwarves across the world? Had their suffering been for nothing to the people of Vortice -- even as they watched the red coats fight and die for them mere yards from their own gate?

The dead Sovereign,  Gail Cordius' eyes go wide with such a development. He thinks on how the next generation Talon's Port leadership managed to negotiate themselves into a less ideal position with Krugmar, nullify their diplomatic relations with Haense, and strip so much international autonomy away from themselves. He simply sighs from the Seven Skies, wondering what amalgamation of things went wrong to cause such a series of events.

 

"Well, I tried." He laments, shuffling off to search for his other dead friends.

Vivian read the agreement, a cigarette between her index and middle finger as she tapped away the ash, setting the copy she had down as she took a sip from her bottle of Ikurn'vallei. Once she pulled the bottle away, a single word utterance was made from the red-tinted lips of the Monarch.

Finally, it was time for the woman to focus on the rebuilding of her city and restructuring of her government.
