The product of combining a rhinoceros and a stallion

Introduction:

Spoiler

Alchemy with any pertinence to the artificiery of life has generally been frowned upon. This foul imitation of God was always taken with a grain of salt, addressed with some air of caution. With time, the creation of sentient, descendant-resembling beings via alchemical processes was somewhat excusable. Such came into fruition with the insertion of homunculi, anthroparions, et cetera into society. Creatures which bore no souls yet, in some capacity, functioned akin to the descendants which exist upon Aos. Alchemical beasts, on the other hand, were viewed in an entirely different light. Or, more specifically, chimera crafting: A process which implies the forced conglomeration of both the soul and body. And the product of such taboo art- A feral beast which lives in a constant state of agony, one bearing the curse of eternal suffering. As one might expect, these unnatural beings of tainted origin were strictly forbidden to be created by any alchemists, and while some who were curious learned of their existence and how to procure such, the majority who opposed the practice caused information on the artificial life forms to slowly dwindle.

And, at some indistinct point in time, chimeras no longer roamed the mortal realm. Knowledge relating to the process of their creation became utterly sparse, and those who did retain the concepts and methodologies of concocting such beings would not dare to make any attempts at it. Such persisted until the arrival of Man upon Almaris, in which place a strange plant grew in the thick of the New World’s lush, oaken forests. It was inevitably found by those who aimlessly meandered the woodlands in their perpetual hunt for herbs, and its almost-discomforting qualities were discovered thereafter. The plant was dubbed “Chomp Weed,” and for good reason. Structured much like a venus fly trap, yet on a substantially smaller scale, these plants consumed miniature insects. They were carnivorous. While it is a strange quality for a plant to exhibit, it was not unheard of, but the Chomp Weed’s method of waste disposal was something of a miracle. It would meld together the prey it had consumed within the pits of its stomach, then regurgitating what seemed to be an entirely different organism. Of course, this new being was always spat out dead, reduced to mere nutrients to the soil, but the chomp weed’s methods of combination led to a new avenue of creation: And the new generation of philosophers were hasty in their exploitations.

They were quick to undergo experimentation. The scholars, many of whom often displayed tendencies inhumane and psychopathic in nature, would test the Weed’s capabilities, mercilessly bathing animals in the Chomp Weed’s stomach acid, called Minnul. In every scenario, the product of the animals bathed in Minnul was a grotesque fusion of the bodies. They bore many malformations: extra limbs and protrusions, et cetera. However, the scholars found that by adding facilitating alchemical symbols to the minnul, the animals could be seamlessly combined. There were almost never physical mutations and deformities as those seen in the chimeras of yore, despite the rather horrific display provided considering subjects were usually fused alive. The Minnul, with aid from specific symbols, was capable of delicately drawing qualities from two separate soul templates and joining them into a single body thereafter. Naturally, the intended use of Minnul was for ease of digestion of a Chomp Weed’s prey, and not meant to be taken advantage of by the pesky descendants.

The alchemists had little regard for the shortcomings of the Minnul during their procedures. Despite how many combinations they tried, however many animals and descendants they brutally forced into a single host, the product was always dead: An utterly inanimate result. While the separate bodies fused perfectly into one, the result would inevitably become a carcass. The less aspiring alchemists ceased their studies at such a finding. They quit in the face of adversity, neglecting how far they had come by discovering the Chomp Weed’s intricacies. The more inspired, and perhaps even brutal ones, however, continued conducting experiments. Thousands more descendants and animals were killed in the name of experimentation and science (though some may argue these were nothing but pitiful excuses for slaughter). With every death --each sacrifice-- progress was made. And, eventually, the Anima Aquas was developed, and the first chimeras soon followed.

Prior to the development of said Anima Aquas, a case could be made in favor of the ethics of those alchemists studying Minnul’s qualities. However, following the elixir’s creation, all arguments justifying the study of combining different species were deemed completely invalid. Chomp Weed’s major flaw was that, while it could fuse together the bodies of two individual species, they died in the process and each soul carried onto its respective afterlife. However, the Anima Aquas provided a circumvention for this quality. It was able to liquify an animal's soul essence, its very being, given the Lesser Souls distinct lack of complexity compared to those of descendants. The scholars were now able to extract the soul essence of the creatures and, following this, fuse their bodies via Minnul, only to insert the soul essence once more. This produced a new living being, a beastial chimera, and the art was officially one of taboo origin. Such was naught but inevitable. Tampering with the sanctity of the soul is but one of mankind’s greatest offenses.

While they lacked the grotesque mutations often displayed in the chimeras which came centuries before, the mentality was almost identical. They were feral beasts, living in a constant state of torment and strife. While the smaller variants could be tamed to some degree, beasts of larger proportions were as deadly to their creators as they were to the average passerby. They were merciless, on the fringe of lacking reason or logic, and such was more than apparent in their induction into the world. They would often kill those who created them, and bathe in the blood of the scholars thereafter, reducing the alchemist’s long-sought-after labs to scenes of homicide. Those that escaped the labs would terrorize small villages, slaughtering and feeding upon the carcasses of the deceased with zero regard for life.

Chimeras were once again roaming the descendant realm.

Anatomy:

Chomp Weed is a plant native to Almaris and all continents explored by the descendants thereafter. Structurally, it is similar to a short venus fly trap, though bears many distinctions from its distant relative. The weed is known for its carnivorous tendencies. Upon its lips is a thin sugary coat which baits insects within. Then upon venturing too far, the maw of the plant will seal shut, trapping the insects. The bug will slowly fall toward the pit of the plant, where a gently-glowing red substance known as Minnul resides. Upon reaching the Minnul, the insect will slowly have its energy extracted from the very fibers of its body, killing it and feeding the Weed. Following this, and for no known reason beyond ease of digestion, the Minnul will slowly combine the body of the lifeless insect to other prey within the stomach. The remaining stomach acid will then slowly be absorbed into the base of the plant where a small turnip-resembling bulb resides, and once the stomach is dry, the plant will regurgitate its deceased prey which have accumulated over the past 2-3 days.

Chomp weed is fittingly named a weed because a single plant can sprout as many as a dozen maws, each one exhibiting about 2 cups of Minnul, given their small size. This means, for the largest weeds, up to 6 liters can be harvested and used for the production of Chimeras

Location and Cultivation:

Chomp weed is exclusive to the realms dark, temperate forests. It can be difficult to spot in said environments. It spreads very slowly. New Chomp Weed sprouts only when excess sugar-like substance from the lip of the Weed’s maw drips into the soil. This also must occur during the Malin’s Welcome portion of the year. Chomp weed can not be grown in a controlled alchemical environment, given that it requires a strict amount of lighting, soil pH, nutrients specific to Eastern Arcas’ soil, and an abundance of insects. Chomp weed will not consume when it is fed insects. They must enter out of their own volition and be trapped, not forced into the maw of the plant by a scholar. This strange phenomenon has no true explanation. Perhaps they somehow derive some primitive thrill from trapping their prey.

Minnul:

Minnul is the substance from which the true process of chimera-crafting is derived.  It is capable of melding two-three separate bodies, fusing them into a single one. It is red in color, and exhibits very high viscosity, more so than both honey and syrup. While it will not cause harm after brief contact, if one leaves any part of their body within the minnul for longer than a minute, their flesh will slowly begin to decompose and dissolve in the fluid. This substance combines two separate life forms by dissolving each individual body and, over the course of 1 IRL week, slowly generating a new, compact carcass for ease of waste disposal. These carcasses, when fed extracted souls generated via the Anima Aquas, will generate a chimera.

The purpose of Minnul in chomp weed is ease of digestion. It is easier to puke up a single, larger carcass as opposed to two smaller ones.

Harvesting:

Minnul must be carefully extracted via syringe, and can only be harvested during the night. Night time is the only time in which the maws of the Chomp Weed are open, as they digest their food during the daytime hours. Without disturbing the plant or killing it, Minnul can slowly be collected. Over the course of 1 IRL week, the Minnul within the chomp weed will replenish and can be harvested once more. Minnul is NOT a reagent, nor is Chomp Weed. It has no alchemical properties or symbols.

Once Minnul is harvested, the alchemist must first pry out the insects decomposing within the stomach acid via forceps, then move it to a warm, humid environment: One which simulates the  pit of the Chomp Weed. For optimal results, it should be dosed with sugar every day.

REDLINES

  • Minnul must be harvested at designated Chomp Weed nodes.

    • This will not be an automated node like those we see on the current map. Instead, they can be harvested with ST oversight and an item will be provided thereafter, along with a sign indicating the cooldown for harvests

  • Minnul can only be harvested by those with a Chimera Crafting FA, given that its properties are considered “Hidden Knowledge”

  • Chomp Weed can not be cultivated in a controlled environment

Anima Aquas

Spoiler

The single downfall of Chomp Weed’s minnul is that the product will always be dead. After substantial experimentation, alchemist’s deduced that if they could temporarily kill those which they sought to combine, allow the minnul to fuse them, then give life to the new body, they could create a chimera. The result was the Anima Aquas. It is a potion capable of splicing the Lesser Soul of an animal, producing it in liquid form and temporarily killing the beast. Given the Lesser Soul’s distinct lack of complexity, this can only be performed upon animals. On a descendant, it will cause nausea and intense cramping for 1 IRL hour, but no substantial damage.

The Concentrate, before being saturated with a soul, will have a dark grey color and a cloudy appearance. It whirls and whooshes sporadically within the bottle. An animal, when fed this dark solution, will slowly die a painful and agonizing death as its soul essence is stripped from its body. It will sustain no physical damage, but, with a symphony of howls, barks, or squeals (depending on the animal), it will be reduced to naught but a carcass. Moments before death, it will regurgitate a brightly glowing blue sludge, which can be collected and kept within a warm environment. It will slowly disintegrate over the course of 2 weeks. This blue sludge is the liquified soul essence of the animal, which is essential to the process of developing a chimera.

This taboo concoction is the source of the chimera’s chronic torment. Tampering with souls has never produced a healthy, thriving result, and these alchemical monstrosities are evidence of such. Purposefully conglomerating two individual souls and bodies produces a pure embodiment of chaos.

Recipe:

Base: Blood

2x Death

3x Separation

2x Chaos

1x Rage

Process:

  1. Bring the Blood base to a boil and add Death symbols. Without mixing, allow the extracted symbols to slowly diffuse.

  2. While this occurs, rapidly cool the liquid. The death symbols should settle at the bottom of the mixture. At this point, add Chaos and symbols, and rapidly bring to a boil once more. The volatile liquid should begin to whirl in miniature vortexes within the bottle.

  3. Then, rapidly cool over a bed of ice and add Rage symbols.

  4. Heat once more, this time while stirring, and add separation symbols. The resulting liquid should be dark gray in color and rapidly whirl around the bottle.

  5. Turn off the burner and allow it to slowly cool.

Process for saturating the Brew with a soul:

  1. Feed the animal the solution. Sometimes it will refuse to ingest it and must be forced.

  2. Prepare some sort of tray or bowl beneath its mouth and wait.

  3. Over the course of 20 painful minutes, the animal will die. It will be screaming and whining helplessly all the way, often entering seizures or sustaining a heart attack.

  4. Moments prior to death, it will puke up a brightly glowing blue sludge, hopefully into the bowl or tray.

  5. Quickly move this sludge into a vial and seal tightly. Keep it warm.

REDLINES

  • This potion must be represented by a player-signed item and by a player with a valid chimera crafting FA

  • The brew is only effective on things exhibiting lesser souls. This excludes Descendants, Dragonkin, etc. As well as beings with no soul, like homunculi.

  • After being saturated with a soul, the brew will expire in 2 weeks.

  • The Recipe and Process for making this potion and its application must be learned IN ROLEPLAY. It is considered HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE.

  • CAN NOT BE USED TO PK CA CREATURES WITH LESSER SOULS, LIKE MUSIN OR WONKS. IT WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT ON THEM AS IT DOES ON ORDINARY DESCENDANTS

Hosts

Spoiler

For the creation of all chimeras, 2-3 hosts are required. These are simply animal carcasses which have had their souls extracted via Anima Aquas. They must be of similar size, but stature does not matter. The resulting chimera will exhibit qualities from each of the hosts included. Hosts must be of similar size for the fusion to occur properly, and it is ideal that their structures are similar as well.

REDLINES

  • The masses of the creatures being combined must be similar. The heavier host can be no more than 20% heavier than the smaller one(s).

  • They MUST HAVE LESSER SOULS. Descendants, dragonkin, etc. are NOT ALLOWED

  • PLAYABLE CA CREATURES WITH LESSER SOULS, LIKE WONKS OR MUSIN, ARE NOT ALLOWED

Process

Spoiler

The process of creating a chimera, after procuring the required elements, is relatively straightforward. Anywhere from 2-3 animals can be combined, however, the required materials change depending on the number of animals used. For a chimera including 2 species, the user will need:

  • 2 Anima Aquas. Each animal must have its soul liquified.

  • 2 liters of Minnul. This will act as a base for the chimera’s creation

  • 2 Hosts

  • 2x Connection Symbols

  • 2x Life Symbols

  • 2x Endurance Symbols

  • 2x Growth Symbols

For a chimera including 3 species, the user will need:

  • 3 Anima Aquas

  • 3 liters of Minnul

  • 3 Hosts

  • 3x Connection symbols

  • 3x Life Symbols
    2x Endurance Symbols

  • 2x Growth Symbols

Given that Minnul found in Chomp weed decomposes and combines nothing of larger proportions than an insect, Connection and Life symbols are required to aid in the process. Endurance and Growth symbols will be used to join the souls of the animals into one.

Process:

  1. Fill a 4x5 chamber with water.

  2. Add the required amount of Minnul (determined by the number of hosts). It should dilute within the water, creating a translucent bright red liquid.

  3. Add Connection symbols and slowly churn. This will have no effect on the base’s appearance

  4. Slowly add each host, minimally disturbing the Minnul solution, and let rest for 3 days. Over the course of these days, the corpses should decompose entirely.

  5. On the 4th day, a small embryo should be noticed: A premature seed. It will slowly grow into a new body which exhibits features from each host included. Add life symbols directly above the embryo and DO NOT disturb the minnul solution. The embryo should slowly absorb the aforementioned life symbols.

  6. On day 5, procure your Anima Aquas, which should be saturated with lesser souls. Add all of them to a single bowl, disturbing them as little as possible. As soon as they hit the bowl, they should begin to evaporate slightly, letting off a glowing blue mist

  7. While GENTLY combining the souls via mixing, add 2x Endurance and 2x Growth symbols. The individual souls should fuse into a single, dark blue sludge.

  8. Seal tightly in a flask and freeze the sludge for 1 day

  9. Meanwhile, the embryo within the Minnul vat should slowly grow and expand, producing an entirely new body. For now, however, it’s nothing but a carcass.

  10. On the 6th day, thaw the mixture and feed the combined souls to the now fully-formed chimera body. It will flicker to life, producing a chimera.

REDLINES

  • All chimeras, once created, must be represented by a player approved item to validate the creature’s roleplay and creation.

    •  It is recommended that screenshots of emotes used when creating a chimera are documented via google docs, microsoft word etc.

  • It takes a minimum of 6 days to create a beastial chimera

Physical:

Spoiler

The physicality of a beastial chimera is nothing short of abominable. As iterated prior, these taboo creatures are the product of the forceful combination of two distinct souls and bodies, and as such, they inherit physical characteristics from each. However, given the wide array of different creatures and species existing in the mortal realm, their anatomy and appearance is extremely freeform. For example, a fusion between a wolf and massive scorpion might yield a quadruped bearing fur, yet an insect-like face and a stinger for its tail. A chimera will always bear physical traits from each of the hosts used in their creation, whether said traits be wings, fangs, claws, or a stinger. However, one must bear in mind amidst the complexities of chimera-crafting that Minnul has its limitations, as does the Anima Aquas.

For every square inch the surface area of one’s body increases, their volume increases by a cubic factor. It is for this reason that Minnul is so effective at fusing together small insects like those found in Chomp Weed, but requires assistance from endurance and growth symbols when combining larger bestial chimeras. As such, there is a cutoff: A size at which, regardless of signs added, a chimera can not exceed. This cutoff point was determined after several experiments to be about 1000 pounds, give or take.

There are two factors accounted for when determining if two creatures can be used to create a chimera: Structure and Size. While the latter is substantially more important, animals presenting largely different structures, when fused, will give rise to a handful of mutations. These vary widely depending on the host used, but common defects are varying claw lengths, blindness in one eye, patchy fur, or scarring. Two animals were found to be considered “structurally different” when they hail from different animal kingdoms. For example: Combining a bird with a fish, or a mammal with a reptile, will give rise to the aforementioned mutations. Of course, regardless of structure, any two beasts can be fused so long as their sizes are SIMILAR! A lion can not be fused with a bat, because the lion is so much larger, but rather-- It can be combined with a tiger, or perhaps even a large leopard. They do not have to be identical in size, merely similar. As such, the only true defining factor in determining which animals can be combined is their weight. So long as the difference between their masses is no more than 20% of the larger animal's body weight, they can be combined.

Chimeras are distinct from those of yore in their lifespan. Minnul and the Anima Aquas are quite handy in the fact that they fuse two living things in a more refined manner than the archaic processes used centuries before. As such, they can live substantially longer. Chimeras which were made using 2 separate hosts can live up to 40 years, while those composed of 3 hosts live up to 30. However, they do not inherit the boon of monk revival, as they are effectively corrupted animals. They will die permanently if killed.

Chimeric souls are laced with corruption, given the taboo practices which produce them, and as such, they are blighted. A T5 druid will be fully capable of blight healing any chimera. Said chimera will die in the process, but it will be saved from its unrelenting suffering. Druids who commune with chimerae will be met with a symphony of the pained screams and wails of nature. It is truly unbearable. Chimeras can not be controlled/manipulated by druids, however.

All chimeras lack any color in their eye save for black, symbolic of the tainted soul which plagues them.

REDLINES

  • Flight is strictly prohibited in creatures larger than a vulture. Gliding is allowed, however.

  • Creatures weighing heavier than 1000 pounds can not be used to create a beastial chimera.

  • CHIMERAS ARE COMPLETELY INCAPABLE OF REPRODUCTION. All sexual organs disappear amidst the fusion.

  • If two beasts with wildly different structures are combined, they must have a handful of imperfections and mutations. These are to be determined by the creator.

    • What constitutes being “wildly different, Tri?” Just be reasonable. If you’re intertwining mammals/reptiles, bugs, fish, and birds, it will almost always result in some sort of mutation. Mixing animal kingdoms yields mutations

  • Creatures which could not breathe underwater prior to being turned into a beastial chimera, if combined with a fish or underwater-breathing animal, can gain this ability.

  • Physical adaptations in chimeras can NOT be used to access areas which are mechanically inaccessible.

  • Beastial chimeras created using 2 animals can live up to 40 years. Those created with 3 can live up to 30.

  • T5 druids can blightheal chimeras, killing them and saving their souls.

    • They can be communed with, but not controlled.

Mental:

Spoiler

Chimeras are feral creatures of great instability: Embodiments of chaos. This is undeniable. However, amidst this chaos, order can be derived, so long as they are provided a proper incentive.

These alchemical monstrosities are corrupted in nature. At some point during the 2-3 souls’ combination via the Anima Aquas, the seam at which each liquified soul binds to those of the other hosts becomes tainted, given that the more-than-delicate soul essence is exposed, even if only briefly, to the world without the protection of the body that it is accustomed to. As such, they adopt several aggressive habits and tendencies due to the inherently blighted nature of their souls, and the rabid nature of the wild animals they were made from.

For the most part, they  are quite aggressive and, for lack of a better word, insane. They are feral beasts, usually used as some sort of weapon. Despite this, some can be tamed to a mild degree. So long as they are smaller than about 200 pounds, a chimera is fully capable of understanding basic commands, much like a dog, and living in some semblance of a symbiotic relationship with a descendant. Of course, this can not be accomplished without proper compensation. The Chimera must be wellkept, much like a pet. They must be fed, watered, and even offered some sort of stimulus. That being said, they are not dogs, and they will never be one’s friend. They will only tolerate their creator, and are still prone to outlash, aggression, and are undeniably dangerous.

In addition to this, Chimeras often display habits akin to those of the species used to create them. A chimera formed by combining a tortoise and a fish would be substantially less aggressive than one which is a product of a bear and a rhinoceros. More aggressive variants will likely kill most descendants, their creator included, on sight, especially if they are too large to be tamed. Smaller, less aggressive variants are more likely than not to shy away from descendants, but are still quite defensive and dangerous when provoked. The humanity of those who procure such hellspawn is questionable, at the very least. If one looks past the territorial, feral tendencies of the chimeras, and into their eyes, there exists naught but pain and fear. They live in a state of perpetual strife, as the plethora of souls forced into a single body do not complement one another, and are constantly clashing and seeking some method of escape. It is truly a cruel practice.

REDLINES:

  • Beastial chimeras, regardless of which hosts were used to create them, are aggressive and maniacal. While some variants are substantially more feral than the others, even more passive beastial chimeras will not hesitate to attack and kill anything when provoked.

  • Beasts smaller than 200 pounds can be tamed to the same degree of a dog, but they must also be respected and well-kept or they will, like other chimeras, try to kill their creator.

    • Horses, so long as they are fused with other passive animals, can be tamed and ridden as chimeras despite exceeding the weight limit

Author’s Note & Purpose:

There’s a distinct lack of monsters on the server, and all taboo alchemy practices produce something that’s relatively humane and orderly. Chimeras are the antithesis of this, which is why I feel they hold their own place on the server. They are embodiments of pain and chaos, which I think is something that has been missing on LoTC for too long now, and their implementation can facilitate some truly terrifying villainy roleplay. This is my first serious lore piece ever, so I would love any feedback or criticism you guys have to offer.

why is it lesser souls only but you cant goreshit player characters that have lesser souls into chimera, boring. no more LT pandering, do cool ****. especially since these are supposedly considered taboo.

also afaik there's no way ur getting vague to-be-interpreted by creator redlines past LT, rvtards need to be kept in line by lore unfortunately.

Short, to the point, and provides a good reason as to why you should have it implemented into the server. I do agree with _hexe_ though, you will probably have to put some sort of requirement on the choice of redlines. As much as we all want to believe everyone usin this will be epic, there will always be a bad apple.

I'd look to Witchdoctors for inspiration on this. They have a list of effects that occur after healing/fixing a limb or part of the body similar to your one list for animals born of different kingdoms, requiring one really bad effect and two minimal ones. (If I remember correctly)

  • What you could do, should LT get picky, offer a 1 for 1 trade. For every positive trait that is passed along, require some sort of negative trait. Now these negative traits do not need to be linked to the animals, but it could take many forms to allow the creator freedom. Which I feel should DEFINETLY be maintained with this piece, as its built upon freedom/creativity. With this, you can add as many negative or positive traits as you want, though the requirement of negative traits is only maintained for when the creator chooses a certain positive trait. (If you want to add two negatives to a abomination, you don't need to give it positive traits, make that thang as messed up as you want!)

Examples:

1.     Vulture and Boar are combined. The following creature gains wings, at the cost of legs so small it can do nothing but walk.

2.     Creatures from different kingdoms are already covered on negatives, with your provided list!

3.     Tortoise and Cheetah combined: The following creature gains the speed of a cheetah, but has the airways of a Tortoise, only able to run at mach Jesus for a few seconds.

Fingers crossed this gets accepted, because this is some spicy af lore, and I can see so many player/ET events created from it! +1
