🌼 She is beauty, she is grace. She will smack you in the face. 🌼

Mattie was a Ranger, an Outrider, a Guard of Elysium. Yet she was also a mother, a wife, and a friend. Her life was fulfilled through her service to others, whether this was through her duties as a guard, ensuring the cookie jar in the White Bear Tavern remained thoroughly stocked, or remaining sleeplessly by her husband's bedside.

There were many joyous moments to be remembered: falling asleep on a swingset to the sound of birds and a warm, gentle breeze. Manning the tavern while listening to tales of times long past, of ancient legends, or of faraway lands. Watching the children of Elysium grow, marry, start families of their own. Visiting Yong Ping with Chryssa, Katya, and Aylin, a trip which resulted in trying a very suspicious drink and much laughter over Aylin's demise. Visits to the Fakhr Oasis to visit with old friends and teach Marah some of her recipes. Donning a golden mask as Aylin's bridesguard, an honor and a fond memory she carried with her. Tugging a raft to the top of an icy hill, alone, to sled down and relive a bit of spirited childhood. Sure, she shattered her shoulder, but it was fun. Teaching her daughter the art of the quarterstaff. Pride in the accomplishments of those around her.

Everyone who knew Matilda, or Mattie, as a certain young man first called her and the name stuck as a bittersweet nickname amongst those who knew her best, knew trouble was prone to find her - or rather, she tended to seek it out.

Mattie climbed her way through the ranks of the Elysium Rangers with a stubborn fire that never wavered, that pushed her onwards through every battle, every mission, every rally, every training session and every injury. Nothing kept her down for long. Not an irresponsible trek through the icy mountains to peek into the caves of trolls, and returning home with a dislocated shoulder due to her recklessness. Not her first true fight, only an Initiate, against dire wolves that invaded Elysium Park, during which she and Amethyst saved one another's lives and sparked the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Not fights against invading trolls, devastating news regarding the death of a dear friend, or watching the same undead friend dispelled before her very eyes could curb her spirited temperament for long. When a terrorist attacked Elysium and threw a thanium bomb in the midst of those gathered in response, Matilda was hovering on the brink of death and it was only thanks to Aobh Aldin's quick work that her life and those of her children were spared. She did not waver in her convictions as she helplessly watched the MRA slaughter innocents of her home during wartime.

Her stubbornness was a heavy blessing to bear. Many times, it nearly sent her to the Allfather's Halls. Yet, it didn't claim her. Not the rally against a cave of bandits that would ultimately earn her the status of Outrider, during which she sustained multiple injuries and yet would not allow herself to be treated until she ensured every other of the Rangers she led was safe in Elysium once more. Not when she set out three times after a figure threatening the lives of Elysian citizens, each time returning a little worse for the wear. The third time, she returned, nearly dead, bearing her Captain, but with righteous blood staining her blade. Not even the swarm of Naga she fought alongside her fellow Rangers, at one point on her back in the snow and swarmed by the smallest of the vile creatures, could halt her determination, nor could a small group of bandits ambushing an envoy to Elysium.

All of these fights she threw everything into, whether she won or lost, and yet her fiery will kept her alive. Physical and mental battles she overcame with time.

Matilda didn't go out in the fiery blaze of glory, defending her children, her home, or her friends, leaving behind a story of honor and blood to tell, as she'd hoped one day she would go. She went suddenly, unexpectedly, losing against one battle that crept upon her, unawares, that none, not even her own self, realized she was fighting. A sickness that crept in, slowly eating her away, until it finally burst and no longer allowed her to live. A swift, raging torrent against which there was no hope of standing, that caused her to collapse in the arms of her dearest friend, Aylin. It was the battle she couldn't win, the one she didn't know she was fighting, that ultimately helped her headstrong heart to rest.

As the wood elfess reads the news of her fallen friend. Tears being to flow, staining her cheeks and the papers before her. She could not mutter words at that moment on cry out in pain as her lifelong friend was now gone. After all the things they had survived, sickness is what took her. She threw the papers cross the room crying gently. Soon her tears dried, her face as red as her hair.

"I will never forget you Mattie..." She says with a soft tone before wiping her face clean and going down stairs to her family.

Marah sat down on the balcony with a warm cup of tea, when she noticed some papers that had travelled to the Oasis from Elysium. She hoped it would be news of a third volume of "Old Hag Treats" though her heart quickly shattered as she read the news. She held the papers tighter, staring in disbelief. Tears quickly fell as she scrambled to her feet to find her father, Hakim, another dear friend of Mattie's, as well as her daughter Mehreen, who was Mattie's Goddaughter.

News of Matilda's passing would reach Aobh after a while. The Warden of Xan grew solemn for a few days thereafter, reflecting on the brave woman she had known to be so spirited, so fierce, so...alive. Yet, just as she had done with every death that came before, eventually she rose from her brooding melancholy, signed the lorraine, and looked up, to the sky overhead, though her eyes were concealed by off-white fabric.

"And now you get to rest, llir. Rest...and await those who linger after you to join you in your afterlife. May your legacy live on for generations, in some form or another."

The blonde elfess spoke these words aloud to the wind before retreating to her room within the manor. There, the haunting shapes of two skulls were set upon a table, sunken holes where eyes had once been stared vacantly at her. Hastily, to herself, she would add a quiet: "And may your family find it easier to let go of you than I did mine..."

Hakim had spent the day strolling about the Orchards of his home, making his way through the dense shrubbery that collected outside the walls as news would be brought to him, by way of his daughter, of his dear friend's passing, stumbling back a few, he'd been completely off-guard, the bold ranger and caring friend he'd met all those years ago, was now gone "Allah has given a great Honor to the fields of Elysium, for our Sadiq will rest there forever, may she be remembered, praised and honored until the end." he'd mutter, as a few solemn tears streamed down onto his beard.

Tears stream down Alona's face as it fell onto the paper smudging the ink. Alona would place it down on her table as she laid back in her chair cradling her stomach as she was seven months pregnant. For not only the pressure of the baby growing inside but a pit of sadness that bear deep into her stomach, a great wave of emotions hit Alona all at once as reality set in. With Alona crying more louder "If only she were around a bit longer to say our final goodbyes. I will never forget the first mission I went on as you were an outstanding leader just as you were an outstanding person." Alona closes her eyes as she tries to control her heavy breathing the best she can, using her handkerchief to attempt to wipe away the endless tears "May you rest in pure blissful peace." She would say mid gasp as she continues to silently cry to herself.

Brite, was a person by her death bed for some unknown reason. After receiving the news from Amicia and Isabella, would approach Matilda's corps and would then 'ask' her, "Fair lady, do you still remember the day where we talk by the riverside about wood crafting... your daisy band really suits you..." After saying that, she would feel sad and walk out of the clinic, with her fingers interlocking with each other, would then say, "Repose en paix, madame..."

Daibhidh would recieve the news when he once again enters Elysium. He recieved the word from a friend of him and would then act cool in front of him. Then he would quickly leave Elysium and head to Yong Ping. He would then, sit in the office and would then start crying, the crying was so loud that people from a radius of three streets can hear. He would comment Matilda as such, 'She is the best friend of mine, and is the only one who is willing to sincerely talk to me about my problems. She is the most trustworthy and caring person of mine...'.

The Next Day he would return to the former Elysian land, and stand by the riverside opposite the white bear tavern as that is one of the place where he met her the most. He would then take out his Barrach bagpipe, and would then start playing a traditional folk song of Sutherland, with tears dropping...

The music played:

News reached Rebeka la Waevra eventually. She heard, and closed her eyes, holding her hands to her face, taking a deep breath,  "Truly an amazing woman. I did indeed enjoy any time that we had talked. May she rest well."
