Königreich Münzenberg

For love of King, and country.

As troops continue to move about and do their duty, they catch an envoy on the way to the capital. He is promptly escorted by a detachment of soldiers until his message reaches the royal palace itself. Once there he identifies himself as an envoy from Arkis from the King. Reinhardt is taken aback by this development, and even further shook when the envoy reveals the reason for his trip. Without a thought or hesitation, Reinhardt accepts their offer, one of the main drivers in this choice being the potential of marriage, which would bind the two houses and further unify the region. Afterall it was a dangerous world, and even the smallest of allies could prove to be the greatest of friends. Their envoy is told to bring this message back to his king.

The year unfolds, and national security is the primary focus at the moment. As such more resources and currency are being dished out to ensure that not just anyone can barge into Münzenberg and do harm. The fortress to the south is renovated, while a new team of engineers, masons and laborers are employed to construct yet another fortress, they are told if the work is sufficient they’ll have another job next season as well. New settlements are sprouting and by God they would be protected from the evils outsiders wish upon them. No expense is spared. The rest of the season sits quiet, with not much else happening. The foundries are told to prepare themselves for the work orders that are to come.

Actions:

The envoy is sent back to Artkis, Reinhardt II graciously accepts such an offer, and in turn the young king presents his hand in marriage. Hopefully something comes of this.

The Fortress in the south is having renovations done shortly after it’s construction, making the province even more fortified. (4M, 9,000 C)

Yet another fortress is constructed. (4M, 5,000 C)

Two more towns spring to life, a product of rapid growth and prosperity within the nation. (2M, 5,000 C).

Roleplay:

Gavrie Semenov’s expeditions in the southern provinces goes relatively unnoticed in the mainland, his men quietly constructing a fortress under his supervision. Eerily an open letter is written and sent northward about the new borders being established with their neighbors to the south… no conflicts of any sort but it's clear he seems excited for action. The headsman publicly promotes Semenov to a Lieutenant General in the army in an effort to curb the young man from inciting violence and promoting his responsibility as a leader.

Another year, another lackluster year for Dobry’s expeditions after having found nothing in Semenov’s wake. The adventurer’s cries for more naval production goes unanswered in the meetings he holds with Amelin leaving him dissatisfied with the expansion of his commerce in the newly acquired provinces.

The Vrenian Principality

Actions

-The Queen Amelia Piano Concert is launched, in honor of the Grand Architect’s wife, Queen Amelia. The Competition will take place during the entirety of the month of March at the Stör Konserthall in Stör Avida. While any person, Vrenian or foreign may apply, the Organizational Assembly does not expect a large influx of foreigners in its inaugural run. Nonetheless, invitations are sent to the nearby Tzardom of Soglasigrad, Königreich Zunderland, Mirasol, the KKK, etc.

The Concert functions as a competition, with a panel of judges from the University Department of Musical Arts judging each event. Each Concert will be based on either Violin, Piano, or Voice.

>12 are selected for the final. Here, instead of playing a piece of their choosing (Vrenian or other), they play a piece selected by the Jury. All finalists are given the honor of being recorded in the Department of Musics annals, and are often showered in gifts from the Vrenian nobility. Many being Vrenian themselves then tour around the city and towns playing for various nobles, and foreigners are not excluded from this privilege.

>The Laureat is, if Vrenian, given the privilege of being Nobilified at the Awards ceremony by the Grand Architect. If Foreign, they are given a home in Stör Avida and a Ring of Status.

(This competition will occur every Spring.)

-The Rovfägel and the Ny Tid begin their cumbersone trips along the Mirasol border, rarely flying over it, and instead preferring to simply pass through the air along the Vrenian side with Cartographers on board making the most detailed maps possible of the 20 or some kilometers visible to them by telescope and eye. They pass over the land back and forth, and cross-check their results to form standardized maps.

-An Ambassador is sent to Klandestan, with a proposal for a five year Non-Aggression Pact, to be renewed if both sides deem fit. Another is sent to Wetserveld, Yashida, and the Könighreich Zunderland. In Westerveld, the Ambassador requests permission from the government to send for some of Vrena's engineers to observe the railways. He is open about their desire to learn more about this new scientific breakthrough.

-The Grand Architect mandates that the 1st Army should begin to secure new land for Vrena. He thus orders General Haraldsson to plan for it, and plan he does. The 1st Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade under Brigadier General H. Aström (6000 Line Infantry, 2000 Skirmishers) will march from the south into the unsecured land, while the 2nd Cavalry Division, 4st Brigade under Brigadier General C. Kelëv (3000 Light Horse, 1000 Dragoons) will loop around from the north and meet them in the center. They are not expressely violent, and should the local populace be cooperative, they make no attempt to evict them. Resistance is met with unrelenting force.

Research

-The Vrena Principality’s brightest mind in Astrid Gelarvsen is turned from her various ventures after some cajoling and bribing, and is finally convinced to research a theory that has been flicking around scientific circles. That of the theorized 'Telegraph'.

-Chemists at the University begin to search for mass-producible, better waterproof clothing for their troops and Eriksson Machine (EM) Crews. They hope to find a product that can replace standard issue coats with something able to repel rain much more effectively, to protect both cartridge boxes and men.

THE COMMONWEALTH

A sentry crouched beside a foot hill which overlooked the Munzenburger border. He kept his rifle near, staring across the lush valley which separated the Commonwealth’s mountains from theirs. It looked lovely all year around, but the sentry wasn’t here to take in sights of the Commonwealth’s country. He was the first line of defense against- perhaps the embellished a bit- rather, an early warning against sudden attack across the border. The man sniffled, snot running from his pronounced nose seeping into his moustache. “Damn allergies.” he scowled, wiping his uniform’s sleeve across the top of his lip.

Can it, would ya?” called another voice, emerging from the bushes. He too was similarly clad in Commonwealth uniform, with a black-green feathered shako atop his head. He came to a stop besides the first man, glancing toward him. “Any noise you make could jeopardize our  forward OPs.”

“They’re across the damned vale, Rowe.” said the first man, remaining unconvinced.

“Well, if not the Munzenburgers, Wallcroft- what if the captain decides to pay a visit?”

“The captain already missed his last inspection.” Wallcroft retorts, shaking his head. “He doesn’t give a damn. He’s probably drowning in booze and whores in Coventry. It’s just us, up here.”

“What if we haven’t heard from him because- what if the enemy’s already bypassed our position? What if we’ve already surrendered to the incoming hordes?”

“You’re full of sh*t. I’m sure we would’ve heard that- the cannons and guns and screams. Wallcroft turns to his companion, looking him straight in the eye. “Now do me a favor, and take some of your own advice.”

“Hm.” Rowe mumbles, now appearing fidgety, in the face of this tension. “Hey, you hear about the showdown on the Vistula?”

“The Hell’s the Vistula?” asked Wallcroft, inclined to believe he was making up tall tales.

“Two countries, two capitals. Opposite sides of the river. Yeah, those morons shelled the ever-living sh*t out of each other. Heard one of the Westmarkian ministers claimed the honor of some Mittelander princess- and the King got right pissed. Orders his guns to let loose.”

“No sh*t?” asked Wallcroft.

“Yeah.” replied Rowe.

“Let me tell you, Rowe.” said Wallcroft, speaking in his philosophical tone. “No woman’s worth dying for.”

Rowe scoffed. “Amen to that.”

“But the Commonwealth? Now that- that I’ll lay down my life for- ten times over.”

“Hoo-ah.”

Major General Decclan Cook prowled down row upon row of soldiers sparring. For all the ferocity of the Federal Foot Guard’s training, they pale before their General. One could never say he was anything but a monstrously ugly troll of a man. He towers above most standing at six foot five, with layers of fat and muscle generously layering everywhere. His beady eyes are always scanning, calculating. Scars criss cross his face, and some rumor his back for lashings in the old days. Cook’s uniform however is impeccably tailored, and sharp. He bellows corrections and praise out as he walks, overseeing the training exercise personally.

When one recruit gets knocked on his ass in front of him, Decclan simply picks him up by the scruff of his collar. He throws him into the other soldier, staggering them both back. The General grabs a rifle from a different gawking recruit, chopping his knees out from under him for stopping his drilling. Turning to the other two he initially saw, General Cook screams; “BOTH of you, try to kill me.” By now used to his eccentricity, they don’t protest. They spread out and come at him from both sides. Figuring they have the advantage, both charge at the same time, aiming high and low with their dummy bayonets. Sizing them up as this happens, The General turns on his side and waits until the critical moment. In a flash he holds his rifle diagonally, catching both bayonets as they plunge. Twisting his rifle hard, he disarms the two, before whipping it up and forward to smash the stock into one of the recruits' heads. The other holds his hands up, words forming in his mouth. Not giving him the chance, Cook flips his rifle around so the bayonet is forward, and holds it to the soldier's throat.

“The Kempenen won’t give you mercy son, never ask for it when you're facing them man to man.”

With that General Decclan plows through the now large throng of onlookers. He doesn't even need to shout, as he glares at them. They all scramble to get back into line, and redouble their efforts at drills. The General strides to his tent, where his staff await. For a moment he pauses, catching his breath. *Getting too damn old for this* he thinks. With a sigh he enters the tent, where several officers scurry around. “Sir, we just received word from Charlie!” General Decclan smiles, but then scowls. “YOU will call him Brigadier General Sullivan. But excellent to hear.”

Decclan settles down into a chair, to compose a letter to the President. How could he form the right words to describe the new recruits? The Commonwealth was asking a lot of this new generation. Cook was old, a grizzled bear in his last years of service. He’s seen plenty of death, but with every decade it only grows. Putting a brave face on he starts his letter….

*Dear Mr. President, I report to inform you that the training of the new recruits goes well. I have requisitioned several more……….*

“General Ishikawa Kais leads his men across the border into Yashida lands…”

Autumn, 3250 After the Departure

The days grow colder, the nights grow shorter. The sweet odours of the dying season hangs in the air, as leaves colour and fall, while flowers wilt and die. A short time of haunting beauty comes with the pleasant Autumn breeze, as the harshness of Winter grows ever closer.

In the early days of summer, a conflict known as the Fools’ War of 3250 erupted, between the nations of Westmark and Middenland. Though the conflict was short, with both sides displaying criminal cowardice and indecisiveness in their military planning, it still came at a cost of several thousand lives, as the capitals of both transgressors were shelled heavily in the inconclusive fighting. Peace came bare months after war was declared, after Middenland declared the entire conflict to be the fault of Westerveld. Westerveld’s Parliament, understandably upset, has proceeded to denounce Middenland, and to embargo them, henceforth prohibiting the passage of all Mittelandische goods through Westerveld. Additionally, Parliament has cut diplomatic ties with the country, deported any of its citizens and withdrawn its own ambassadors. The divisions of Kommandant-General Sharps’ Commando have been stationed in defensive positions along the border, lest the treacherous Middenlanders attempt to use their false accusations as a cassus belli.

Huge fanfare erupts in the ports of the Commonwealth, as the Kesslerische Freikorps and its commander, the dashing and daring General, the Lord, Heinrich von Kessler, Count of Zaunschweig arrives. Kessler accepts commission as a Lieutenant-General in the Commonwealth’s Army, as well as authorisation to raise his Freikorps, in a clear move by the Commonwealth against Joszef von Einzner. Kessler fled Kempennen after the defeat of the Lord Governor-Generals, the old aristocracy of the nation, at the hands of von Einzner after the Battle of Volksburg. As one of the senior most remaining members of that old rebellion, Kessler has sworn to tear down von Einzner’s incredibly popular rule. Since the General’s arrival in the Commonwealth, he has wined and dined his way through half of the city, and has reportedly bedded the wives and daughters of nearly all of the Commonwealth’s senior ministers, in the fashion of a true hussar. Jozsef von Einzner, meanwhile, has reacted poorly to the news, and has issued an immediate demand to the Commonwealth for the General’s extradition, citing von Kessler to be “...a rebel and enemy of the state…”.

The Jizuru Clan, victorious against the invading Yashida Shogunate at the Battle of Tsurei, do not cower and wait for the return of the enemy invader. Not long after their victory at Tsurei, Lieutenant-General Ishikawa Kais, long standing servant of the Jizuru Daimyo, leads his army across the border and into Shogunate territory, seeking to inflict a decisive defeat upon their enemies, and to end the war on favourable terms.

War! Following the disaster at Tsurei, the Jizuru army presses on, launching an offensive into Yashida lands during the autumn months!

Konigreich Munzenberg

Wedding time! Humina humina humina!!!!! The people of these two proud nations rejoice!

Konigreich Zunderland

The lands to the south (C1) are somewhat less barren and desecrated than the regions around them. They even host a small number of settlements and petty, insignificant nations. Beyond the rocks (A4), they discover the land to be a lawless, barren, waste. Teeming with horribly dangerous creatures, derelict structures half buried beneath the seas of rock, sand, and glass. Among them are small parties of Ruiners who seem to be perpetually picking through this wasteland in search of lost treasures.

General Elsteeden marches south, crossing the great bridge before decisively crushing the small tribal confederation which had previously resisted the Zunderlandische in the spring. Unfortunately, they find the area to already be partially occupied by the Mujahideen. (50%)

Sugondasigrad

The Tsar’s cavalry continues its ride north. Upon entering the targeted region, they clash with a sizable group of Church Clerics, Paladins, and Crusaders, as well as a small horde of their loyal militants already present in the area for some reason or another. The conflict does not escalate into anything beyond a handful of brutal skirmishes, but the Tsar’s cavalry, lacking much infantry support, is unable to pacify much ground. The Church has established itself in a handful of minor settlements and villages, and numbers at least a few thousand. They show no sign of leaving any time soon.

Alexei’s Engineers estimate they will have a workable “iron road” for the fall of 3251

The Kawahara Shogunate

Envoys arrives from both the Concordat and Kaph. (Discord)

Telegrams will be ready by Autumn, 3252.

The Pith border appears to be only moderately staffed, by shoddy, poorly trained troops.

Fighting continues in E20, and the province is eventually conquered by late summer. Progress in F33 is somewhat reduced by the mountain crossing, and only half the province is taken by the end of summer.

The Commonwealth

Kempennen demands the extradition of Heinrich von Kessler and the Kesslerische Freikorps. (Discord)

The Commonwealth will have a working Locomotive prepared for the fall of 3251.

The Kingdom of Procteland

The Iron legion marches beyond the western river, claiming yet more land for the Kingdom. Their attempts to cross the mountains are thwarted midway through by a number of small avalanches as well as the emergence of several small groups of thinking-metal soldiers, all reported to bear a “B” insignia.

The Vrenian Principality

The Queen Amelia Piano Concert appears to be a great success, as it hasn’t actually happened yet! Many private musicians from across the Broken Coast show interest in attending, as well as many from Mirasol. The KKK have yet to reply to this invitation, and many suspect it will probably remain that way.

Maps are made to the best of their ability.

Klandestan accepts, as does Westerveld.

Ass-storm’s division is able to secure and integrate a portion of the wastelands over the course of the summer. During his expedition, his army roots out a small band of Ruiners found excavating an Outsider ruin. They are overpowered in short order, and among their belongings is a Holy Relic which they had apparently uncovered. Ass-storm has it sent back to the capital at once.

The team estimates they will have working telegrams for use by fall of 3252.

The study of logistics as a science has reached its current peak.

The chemists reason they will have a water resistant fabric which could easily be mass produced and issued to the military prepared for summer of 3251.

Westmark Republik

The Republik will have a working Locomotive prepared for the winter of 3251.

The Government’s investigation finds no evidence of foreign involvement in the situation which sparked the brief war between Westmark and its neighbor.

Eidgenossenschaft Middenland

The Middlandische effort to colonize the bush regressed significantly in the brief months in which their army was forced to withdraw from the area. Torching what holdings they had gained during their retreat does not help matters either. Upon reentering the province, it is clear that the inhabitants of the area are wholly in support of resistance. A full military invasion and subsequent occupation of the region will be necessary.

Middlandische engineers estimate their locomotives and railways will be ready for the fall of 3251.

Freeholders’ Republic

The clever boys up in the science building swears they’ll have Concertina bombs ready for next spring!

The boys galavant south into swathes of previously unclaimed bush (E13). Here they find the folks to be in a bit of an uproar about some middle-ladder-ers (a bunch o’ drongos and bogans really) tryna take em all over or some jazz. They say these freeholders seem like nice blokes, though, and the whole province apart from the parts occupied by the Mittelandische have joined the republic.

Mujahideen

The brave Mujahideen finally break out of the mountains and highlands of the province only to find that the rest of the province has been occupied by strange infidels from beyond the river….

Vyacheslav Confederacy

The Confederacy makes little headway in their research. The properties and uses of gunpowder is a rather new rediscovery, all things considered, and they simply do not know of similar substances or even a way to improve the explosive yield.

Eidgenossenschaft Middenland

Confederation of the Three Middle States

From east to west, the Confederation embroils itself in a bid for growth, taking on its neighbours in belligerent acts of military show. Whereas in the east, with its formidable Vistula River, the conflict there was concluded indecisively, the western expansion into the Freehold would see victory - less the Council of State admits they are not fit to govern and are willing to lose the Confederation to anarchy and discontent should they fail.

With the economy having bottlenecked itself in growth earlier in the year, economic think tanks throughout the nation issued their findings, detailing that there were no other alternatives to the acquisition of wealth other than forceful expansion to ensure the Confederation’s way of life. These justifications were righteously compounded by propaganda, when it was made known that the Freehold was contesting the Confederation’s expansion. With a new opponent in the minds of the citizenry, and the Grand Army fresh off the Vistula skirmishes, the Confederation was ready to stick it to another target.

“Raise the Freikorp, raise the Freikorp! The citizenry have been raised! By order of the Council! Muster stations everyone!”

Messengers dash throughout the communities of Sudveld, the Confederation’s southernmost state on the border with Westerveld. It seems, to those who pay attention to such developments, that the conflict to the west may escalate to full-scale war, and that to prepare for such, the call for assembly has been issued.

Attached to Marshal Hozen’s field army, Major-General Stefan Waltz has been given the command of the six or so thousand strong raised brigade. Proving to be cunning, as displayed by his actions in the border skirmishes with Westmark earlier in the year, Marshal Hozen has planned to put these innate abilities to good use as they root out the wildfolks from the Bush.

It is reiterated to the General that the livelihoods of those inhabitants are worthless - what happens in the Bush, stays in the Bush, a little ethnic cleansing to clear the way for colonizers wouldn’t hurt anyone much. They were savages, afterall.

“Verily, good sirs, the nation’s attention must be turned elsewhere - else we subject ourselves to the whims of the displeased masses. What occurred on the Vistula was an intelligence blunder of unparalleled stupidity. To be awakened in the early morning by gunfire, only to be told that no side but the other committed the first cartridge. A blunder, god damn it!” The Prince-Chancellor slammed a balled fist against his oaken table, though resumed his typical demeanor as quickly as he had his outburst - unsettling some of the others around.

“Though we know not of whom these machinations were stringed, it is quite apparent that the espionage division led us into the worst national embarrassment of the decade… Imagine it, two cordial nations, at each other’s throat within the span of an hour, simply because both representatives were too stupid to think something foul was afoot!” He shook his head in disappointment, slouching back into his seat dejectedly as the remainder of the Council looked on attentively.

“I shall deal with the Director, Chancellor - you shan’t hear of him ever again.” piped up a man at the table of no recognition compared to his uniformed peers around.

“Good, I leave his replacement to you. Failure won’t be tolerated, or you will be treated likewise to our fair departing intelligence commander.” The Chancellor concluded, moving on to the next topic with a sip of water.

“Now, the next subject of contention - the perfidious Freehold, who had the audacity to move their troops into our frontier as if they thought they had the chance to contest us. We shall make quick work of this war. Slice the snake’s tail, and hold the rest hostage. Deal their army a resounding defeat and their country will buckle to our demands. Westerveld will take notice, no doubt, so we will have to temper our ferocity and let these forest brigands off lightly. We are not yet of the strength able to take on our southerly neighbour, yet.” He spoke on as he gazed over an array of army formations across the valley region between the Freehold and Confederation, eying the warplans.

“Marshal Hozen, God bless him, has been sent to settle our westerly feud. We’ve also initiated Protocol Set 4, issuing the assembly of the southern Freikorp - hopefully they can sponge damages away from our regulars. Stifle the media, sanitize our military reports, and hope to god Hozen wins in the west and we might just be able to salvage this mess we're in.”

As the Sun began to set, dimming the light in the council chambers, the increasingly weary Chancellor rose from his chair, the rest in the room following suit. He salutes with the strength of an old man, ushering forth the following as he departs;

“Remember the Cause,

Midxers Unery.”

I went for a walk once,

To amuse myself,

Then I saw in the distance

A girl standing.

I asked her modestly:

"Miss, may I accompany you?"

Then the girl said:

"Oh, please, no!"

“I am married,

been married a long time,

and I have everything

that one could need.”

“I don't need to say anything

and do not need to ask,

and what you can do,

my husband can too!”

A popular soldier’s song of the 5th Regiment of the Foreign Corp on-march to their destination.

Formal Invasion of the Bushlands commences, pushing forth to meet the Freehold’s forces in the woods. An official declaration of war is not yet issued, but letters are dispatched to the Republic’s government through independent couriers, demanding their withdrawal from the claimed territory the Confederation is in the process of civilizing. [Invading E13, war-plans to follow in discord]

With war continuously threatening the national integrity of the Confederation, the industry must match these conflicts. The surplus production of sulfur and saltpeter is exhausted entirely as newly constructed mills churn out gunpowder by the bulks to supply the soldiers. [x3 GP Mills, 9,000v, 3m]

Having drained the entirety of the national stockpile of construction resources, shipments of materials flow in through the Vistula River, having purchased a part of the Kingdom of Procteland’s surplus. [Buying 5 Material from Hell, 5,000v]

In an attempt to maintain the growing need for consumer goods, a factory-complex is constructed in eastern Arnau along the shores of the Northern Lake, kept far away from any potential warzones. [x1 Manufactory, 2000v, 1m]

As the threats of war loom over the Confederation, politicians breathe a sigh of relief as Vyascheslav diplomats arrive to discuss treaties in the like. Following the conclusion of the reason for their presence, Sudenisch politicians extend an offer to establish embassies, to better improve the lines of communications between the two nations. [Non-Aggression Pact is signed between the Vyascheslav Confederacy and Middenlisch Confederation | Proposing embassy establishment in capitals].

The political and military maneuvers of the Westerveld is wholeheartedly dismissed, declaring their hostile behaviourism on the border as proof of guilt. The forces stationed in Sudveld are kept on alert for any potential military incursions along the south, patrolling their peripheral territories on a constant basis, while the same is carried out along the Vistula River - observing the lay of the land.

mz5g2Uw.png

Trade and Prosperity was what was on the horizon now, with the conflict ended and trade resuming and wealth flowing through the Westmark again. Citizens and Traders attempt to get back to their lives. Now trade from far foreign lands comes to Westmark. The Sultanate of Kaph has made an appearance in Westmark, their trade ships and emissaries have come seeking allies and partners in the broken coast. Crates and Wagons filled with heavy crates make their way onto these foreign ships bound for another continent in return currency flows into Westmark coffers.

Foreign Merchants return home with crates stacked with bars of fine steel, marked with the Westmark Eagle. Whether for construction, war or shipbuilding it is unknown and quite frankly with the nation upon another continent and chests filled with Vozin coming in return Westmark couldn't care less what it was spent on.

However a dark stain remains in the back of their minds. Across the river is a constant reminder, of blood spilled and taken without justification. After deep and expensive investigations the Assembly and Military has come to the conclusion that no mistakes were made on part of Westmark but rather the entire Crisis was created in some elaborate and disgracful plan by Mittelland to invade Westmark. But after initial failings and failure to gain any significant holding they backed down. While it cannot be truly proven, the fact that no manipulation occured on Westmark's side of the conflict only fuels hatred and mistrust for Mittelland.

Therefore Westmark must make attempts to isolate and pressure their wicked counterparts.

The eyes of the military and the Chancellor's diplomats fall upon Westerveld.

-Actions-

Chancellor Hiem dispatches Minister Kiesling on an important mission. He and a small team of Diplomats are sent to Westerveld in an attempt to open up talks and attempting to establish relations with them. Utilizing the recent Crisis and conclusion that Mittelland was in fact the Nation that sparked the conflict. (Mod)

With the death of Admiral Peter Muller, the navy finds itself in a precarious position. He had been a leading element in the Navy's procurement of funds and expansion. However his protege Friedich von Hipper has boldly stepped up into his place asserting himself well into the position, hopefully he can carry on the mantle. Reconstructing the navy is now a priority. As such an Ironclad is constructed (-10,000v, -5SP, 5 Steel, 1 MP)

Work has also begun rebuilding the armed forces as replacing lost troops. 2,000 Medium Infantry Regulars are put into training and to be integrated into the army within the season. (2,000v, 4 AP, 4 Steel)

Königreich Münzenberg

For love of King, and country.

Within the season of the alliance proposal, Reinhardt extended his hand in marriage as a sign of good faith, and the rest is history. Wedding bells tolled when Reinhardt and Kristina first met. Her family could see it, and most in eyeshot when the two were together could as well. A match made in heaven some say. The two houses of von Holle and von Häusser are to be joined. From the crowded streets of the capital, to the small typically quiet farmsteads, people rejoice and raise a glass in the name of their King, and new Queen. Despite this happy news, the needs of the nation must be heard, and she calls. The foundries begin churning steel into infantry equipment, cannons, and other weapons of war and destruction. The foundry workers work day and night to make sure the quotas are met knowing that the faster they get done, the longer rest in-between seasons they'll have. From the looks of it there is going to be a study flow of work for them. For many seasons there will be muskets to make, uniforms to dye, and barrels to rifle. The powder keg is surely to have been lit, for there’s something bigger going on. Yet the smoke rising from stacks and the clanging coming from their large buildings is still drowned out by cheers of the new engagement for beloved King.

Actions:

Research! The locomotives being made in Westerveld have inspired the engineers of Munzenberg to begin their own work on some as well!

5,000 medium line infantry are recruited. (6250 C, 10 S, 10 AP.)

The Vrena Principality

military_council_prosperity_by_vickybawa

The War Room had that same tense atmosphere that it always held whenever Field Marshal Haraldsson and Lt. General Adolfus Engström had to share the same space. That sort of bitter tension that spoke of spurned honor and long unburied resentment.

“This is preposterous,” blustered Engström. “Absolutely inconceivable, it goes against Doctrine, against tradition! My lord, with all respects I cannot- I will not engage in such frivolous tactics! A man of the infantry is to stand and deliver fire, not rush at the enemy like some addled badlander!”

Haraldson's coffee was good, not too bitter, a touch of something sweet. He took another sip and sighed. Those Soglasigrad chaps certainly knew which imports to ship in from overseas.

Engström liked to think himself a conservative, a man who had existed before Haraldsson’s ideas, and resented his promotion.

“Sir,” said Haraldsson slowly. The sun was warm today, a welcome break from the windy, grey Autumn that had been afflicting Stör Avida. “You are under my command, and you will do as you are told.”

“I will NOT have the traditions that have built this country be besmirched by a peasant upstart!” roared Engström, slamming his fist on the heavy oaken table, his ruddy wrinkled face red with anger. “You go too far, this time!”

Haraldsson put his cup down and slowly stood up. “Now it is you who goes too far, Sir. It would be within my rights to have you stripped of your rank for those words.” He held up a hand when Engström made to speak. “I would ask you to apologize, or repeat yourself now.”

A murmur ran across the room. Engström glowered at him darkly, and his reply was already in his eyes. “I will not having a peasant upstart besmirch the honor of my Corps, good sir.”

With careful movements, Haraldsson removed a card from his pocket, a small thing with his name and rank upon it. He gave it a small rip, took a quill and signed it, before sliding it over the table to Engström. This had been a long time in coming. “Then I will have satisfaction. We may be old men, but my honor remains where my body has withered. Lord Knieffson, you will be my second, sir?”

Of course, his most loyal man accepted without hesitation.

>The Rövfagel and Ny Tid, now finished with mapping the Mirasol border begin to make regular fly-overs of the KKK, flying high enough to avoid danger the men within simply inspect the land with telescopes, mapping them in detail in turn. They do not afford the KKK the same diplomatic considerations given to Mirasol when avoiding direct fly-overs of their territory.

Should any ambassador complain, the response is simple. “Who else flies through the skies as we do? Does the sea belong to the man without a ship?

>Vrena continues to expand into the wastelands. What was once territorial has now become a Holy Mission. If one Relic was found, then more must exist. The men are urged onwards with zeal as three brigades march into the wastelands. Once again, they aim not for direct violence, and instead incorporation into the Principality.

-With the Gustav School of Logistics and Engineering established and running, the engineers of the University Department of Armament and Military Technology turn their attention to the improvement of artillery.

Named the Modell ‘51 Gustav Cannon, the idea is to create a cannon not with a particularly better range or precision, but with a higher rate of fire. To do this, they seek to perfect the crafting of the cannon itself so that batteries will face less misfires, and gun crews will have to deal with less obstructions and fouling's in the barrel. The hope is to simply increase the volume of rounds fired by every cannon by improving quality.

Overview

With the victory of the autumn the Yashida were now bouncing back from their previous defeat, they would advance into the Jizuru’s territory now that they had largely broken the enemy army. Though they would not assume they’d be unopposed, skirmishers and cavalry would act as scouts for the army itself to ensure that any remnant of the Jizuru Army doesn’t get the chance of ambush against Gorou and Saito. The war itself was a learning process for the Shogunate, their first attempt at fighting an enemy of similar strength had most certainly had mixed results and it has somewhat caused Gorou’s reputation to suffer somewhat.

In the Capital fresh troops and more money into industrial efforts would be undertaken, along with planning to build more factories around the country to overall increase the tax revenue and getting the people to work productively and support the economy to allow for a quick and speedy recovery and growth of the army itself.

Expenses and Actions

Four factories are built across the country. (4,000, 4M)

Two thousand Shogunate Guard are raised and trained to meet the demands of the army. (5,000, 6AP, 6S)

The Yashida Army continues its advance into Jizuru territory, though messengers are sent out offering to open up talks, but not before the Yashida Army is firmly within Jizuru Borders as to give pressure. (Mod)

Leaden masks framed in leaden cloaks stared down the horsemen. They peered malevolently from village windows; they held up unholy icons as if to ward the cavalry off. Perhaps it was working, for none of the Tsar’s men approached.

“They aren’t leaving,” growled Nikolai, hand resting on his saber. As if sensing his nerves, his chestnut horse shifted back. For weeks they had skirmished with priests and paladins, and always the Church had avoided pitched battle - until now. The villages offered them safety, and neither cossack nor hussar would chase them there. “I suppose you’ll want to drive them out?”

“Course I want to!” The grenadier Oleg glared at the priests, his face twisted in impotent fury. “But I won’t. Who knows what kind of weapons they’ve got in there? Bloody streltsky’s job to find out, not ours.”

“You see any streltsky around?”

Oleg shot his smaller companion a harsh look. “No…” He conceded, finally. “But when the regent finds out this is where the heretics are hiding, this place’ll see enough infantry for a lifetime. What a waste of time.” The big man spat toward the village, and turned his massive horse away. Nikolai couldn’t help but concur.

----------

The regent Viktor Wolcov does indeed fly into a rage when news of crusaders to his north reaches Soglasigrad. But he is no fool, and winter is approaching quickly. The army sits in place, but when the new campaigning season comes there is no question in anyone’s mind that a reckoning is coming.

The cavalry, meanwhile, continue their campaign in a new direction, unhappy at being forced back.

THE COMMONWEALTH

Lieutenant General John C. Trumbull pens a message at his Amity Headquarters; c. 3250

At his headquarters in Amity, Lieutenant General John Trumbull stirred, as a torn open envelope lay discarded on his desk. He scrutinized the letter that accompanied it and set it down soon after, revealing neither pleasure nor disgust, just a clear confusion.

“If I may, General?” asked another officer from across the desk, a subordinate divisional commander.

“Go ahead, Griswold.” Trumbull waved, as he drew a sigh. The Lt. General shakes his head, reaching into a drawer behind his desk, pulling out a light and a small metal container with five or so cigars.

Griswold reached for the letter. A few seconds later, he raises a brow. “Well, this’ll surely antagonize the Kemps, sir.”

“Oh, there’s no question about it. Harriman wants war.” said Trumbull, lighting one and taking a puff.

“With all due respect, sir, you of all people should be glad.” Griswold said, careful not to overstep his bounds. “You possess the largest command in the Commonwealth, and a reason to use it.”

“Though, that might be so, this fool has been commissioned as a Lieutenant General.”

“The seniority is yours sir, by miles.” said Griswold reassuringly, noting the General's out of character insecurity. “He may be an aristocrat, but he’s honorable- so I believe. He won’t subvert your command. Plus, Lieutenant General Scranton’s always been a friend, and won't stand for it either.”

“There’s only one way to be certain.” sighed Trumbull, reaching for his ink and pen, pulling out a blank parchment in which he began to scrawl.

“Sir?”

“A formal request for promotion. Harriman will acquiesce, given the circumstances.” Trumbull chuckled, signing the document soon enough, as if already having planned out its contents.

“Of course, sir.”

“There we go.” said Trumbull, smugly. “The Army of the Thames. he said, blowing some air over the letter as he waited for it to dry.

“A good choice, sir.” Griswold smiled, though somewhat forced.

“Glad you think so. I’ll have someone take it out now.” Trumbull stood. However, as he did so, a three rasps sounded on Trumbull’s door, followed by a, “-General Trumbull, someone’s here to see you.”

“Sure, bring them in.” Trumbull called back, glancing at Griswold. “It’ll only be just a moment.”

The door promptly swung open, as the aide announced, “Lieutenant General Heinrich von Kessler, sir.” Before Trumbull could even react, he found a ceremonially clad hussar standing in his doorway, proud in his regalia. The man was already striding forward with a wide grin. With his thick Kempennese accent, he bellowed, “Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lieutenant General Trumbull.”

“Ah yes, General Trumbull. General Kessler is to be assigned to the northern area of operations, based out of New Vernon.” said Griswold, slightly amused, having read through the entirety of the letter before Trumbull did.

“Dear God.” Trumbull muttered.

Minister of Commerce Ernest Randolph was a prompt man, meticulous in his work. It had made him a perfect pick for Prime Minister Issac Edward’s cabinet. Their cabinet was an odd mix, Mr. Edwards preferred men mostly detached from day to day politics. It ensured they were focused on their jobs, and helped Issac with agendas and projects to do the actual politicking. For the past two years Minister Randolph’s job was relatively lack lustre. But the Broken Coast was changing, war and opportunity on the horizon.

This month he has been prompted to return to New Prospect, to personally oversee mercantile operations there. After a year gone from the Capital, he was amazed to see so much change. On the outskirts of the city entire divisions worth of tents are arrayed in orderly rows. Men clad in green and gold are everywhere, drilling, relaxing, moving supplies. Further in, many of the parks, abandoned lots, and empty space had been totally converted. Now factories where long lines of workers toil cloud the city horizon.

The city itself was changing, as more money and foreign influence poured in. Far more bars, opera houses, theaters were popping up, for the growing middle class. At the docks ships steam in day and night. The reason Minister Randolph had returned was twofold. Prime Minister Isaac’s foreign agenda has pushed mostly for trade over expansion. He has created lasting relationships with Nations across the broken coast. From the holy mountains of the Mujahideen, to the cragged mountainscapes of the Irthmade, resources flow. And overseeing it all is this small, particularly sour man. And no one else would have been better.

He gets to work, forming a far stricter schedule and regulation for incoming trade. No longer will ships offload dumps of coal to lay right on the docks. Sailors can’t just pour off their ship without screening. Modern advancements are required, to better ensure the Commonwealth’s prosperity. Provosts now roam the docks, checking papers, guarding warehouses. Commonwealth artillery and ships line the harbor, always keeping an eye out. Dock workers get their pay on time, and keep to the schedule of imports and exports needed. What is growing in the Capital is a smooth, well oiled machine of massed proportions. Devouring resources from across the world, to fill the stoves and engines of the Nation.

The Winthrop Estate. Located on Hall Street, a boulevard strung through the a quaint corner of the city, where the autumn leaves paint the green canopies of the trees a picturesque copper, and where the ladies can walk with their powdered faces along the elegantly laid brick paths of the neighborhood, far away from the fever-ridden alleys ways, where the muck stains the stockings, and where the stench of excrement does not drown the aroma of the exotic flora grown outside many of the gardens of the manors. The Winthrop House, an exemplary monument to the Outsider Revivalist Style, is the most stellar of the houses. There are notable mentions, such as the neighbors to the Winthrops, the Andersons, bearing the oldest of the houses, and the Wallace’s, with their infamous residence fashioned out of pristine white poplar, a tree endemic to the isles of concord. The Winthrop House was in construction for nearly 8 years, where Joseph personally hand selected 8 carpenters and woodcarvers to carve out from the story of the Winthrop’s on the entire exterior of the building, creating a paragon of Commonwealth art. Intricate woodwork canvasses the entire building, and anyone could lose themselves for hours wandering through the small figurines and landscapes carved into the sides of the building.

This is the pride of Joseph Winthrop. It is not his wide network of mills, his tens of thousands of employees, nor funding, for a great part, the new locomotive set to transport steel from his largest quarries to one of his biggest mills. In fact, many times, he could be seen sitting on the balcony of his house, on his fathers rocking chair from the inn he was reared in. It produced the same exact creak as it did when he was just a small boy. He lights up his pipe, the color of which matches that of the wood which his entire house is crafted of. Like a watchman in a tower, he begins to watch the avenue, his blue eyes tracking the passersby.  He knows each of their names, and each of them are aware of him. Sometimes, early in the morning, the milkman can catch a whiff of his smoke, dropping off the Andersons bottles. Other times, some of the daughters of the politicians, gracefully wave at him, to which he does not wave back. Placating to those beneath him for the sake of manners sickens him. Sometimes, he spots a hobbling drunk from the pub, having lost his way, and the vice made him take a wrong turn. At the sight of this, he becomes active. Immediately he rises from his chair, and heralds the local precinct, to which in 5 minutes 3 arrive with their batons and sticks, and whisk him off to the local slum he escaped from.

On the violet gardenias below, a glob of spit lands on the pistils of the plant, drenching the saccharine nectar in saliva from above, as the police drags the beggar away from his sight.

“Good Riddance.”

“Freeholder Infantry at the Battle of Jamesvale…”

Winter, 3250 After the Departure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2W1Wi2U9sQ

As the last leaves wither and fall, the grass dies back. The nights grow long and the days grow short. The few still foolish enough to fight in these months must leave their dead where they lie, for the ground has frozen hard, and burial is no longer possible. Winter has come, and all pray now for the return of Spring.

Tragedy strikes in the Kingdom of Artkis, as old King Klaus, respected and revered, finally breathes his last. Ill for several years, the late monarch passed away in his sleep, to the dismay of his lady wife and his four daughters. With neither a son or any close male family, the nobility conferrs in parliament for several days on who should take the Artkis throne. After a week of deliberations, this parliament votes to offer the crown to Reinhardt von Hausser, King of Munzenberg, a powerful neighbour, and also husband to Klaus von Holle’s eldest daughter. Long live the King!

Tensions rise in the far west where Mirasol continues to watch the expansions of her two closest neighbours with rising trepidation. Feeling isolated and clearly soon to be surrounded by their unfriendly neighbours, Mirasol takes the drastic action of inviting the Concordat into the country, giving all contracts for supplying the Royal Army and Royal Navy over to the great power, along with signing a number of treaties that invite the Concordat to reform the Mirasolian military. The Triumvirs have finally gained their first foothold in the Broken Coast.

Winter has arrived, but that has not stopped the bitter fighting in the Bush War. Though the war is as of yet undeclared, the forces of the Freeholders’ Republic and Middenland met at the small town of Jamesvale for pitched battle, to decide control of the Bush, an inhospitable area of dense trees and harsh brush, separating the two nations. Though the battle was fought in late November, no knowledge of the result has yet spread beyond Middenland or the Freehold, slowed by the coming of Winter.

Kempennen says nothing further to the Commonwealth on the subject of Kessler - though their ambassador delivers a rather fiery letter declaring his thoughts on the subject to President Harriman. Despite von Einzner’s silence, the “Tyrant” has opted to heavily man the border between the two countries, and the FIC hears rumours of further military reform, with talk of the Potentate creating a dedicated artillery reserve corps, for army level control of artillery support.

Westerveld continues to build their iron road, working hard even in the winter to lay the tracks across the vast, flat plains. In the north, Jan Sharps’ Commando still hunkers down on the border of Middenland, guarding the border from the Veld’s treacherous and warmongering neighbours.

Yashida Bakufu

Though the war has been painful and bloody, and not short of humiliations for the Shogun and his ambitions, the recent victories against the Jizuru Clan, and the fact Field Marshal Gorou lays siege to Jizu has done much to sanitise the world’s image of Yashida arms, leading to some prestige for the small state. (+2 Prestige)

Konigreich Munzenberg

With the death of his father-in-law, Reinhardt II von Haussen is invited by the nobility of Artkis to assume the Throne, to rule as monarch and protector of the Konigreich Artkis. (Discord) (+3 Prestige)

The King’s scientists report that a working locomotive will be available in the Spring of 3251.

Konigreich Zunderland

A force of Mujahideen roll down from the mountains and seize the Outsiders bridge in E5, occupying it, in an attempt to cut off the line of retreat for Zunderland’s Royal Army. (Discord)

Sugondasigrad

The Tsar’s horsemen spend a harsh winter galloping around D1, subduing the mostly empty region’s sparse tribes, who are largely happy to accept the Tsar’s authority, on the off chance it might improve their miserable lot even a little bit. Probably not though, you know how it is with Tsars.

The Kawahara Shogunate

Kawahara finally finishes its conquests of F33.

The rapidly approaching winter prevents the conquest of F32, however, and the army is forced to withdraw into friendlier territories, lest they be exposed to that frigid climate.

The Commonwealth

Little of note happens in the Commonwealth, over the course of these few months, though Kessler apparently chases off what he describes as “an enemy patrol”, on the northern border. Regardless of what the truth of the incident may be, the General’s claimed victory stands the Commonwealth in good stead. (+2 Prestige)

The Kingdom of Procteland

Procteland marches into F31, and manage to bring the King's rule to the province.

The Vrenian Principality

The concert is a resounding success, and musicians of great renown arrive from all around the Broken Coast to play. Even an officer of the Concordat, stationed in Mirasol to train their troops, but a renowned artist all the same, arrives to compete. The most popular performer is an unsponsored man from Soglasigrad, however, and his grand performance is the one that summons the New Year. Pyotr Tchadvoksy plays in the New Year, with an incredibly rousing piece in the Tsar’s honour, concluding in a massive crescendo to the thundering of a dozen 12 pounders rolled up onto the stage (to the shock, and delight, of the concert attendants). (+3 Prestige for Vrena, +2 Prestige for the Tsar.)

The attempts to map Klandestan are not met kindly, and the KKK’s Sentinels waste no time in making this opinion known to the trespassers. While they have no weapons fit to actually sink the airships, they quickly take to climbing to the heights of their enormous mountains, and taking potshots with what appears to be highly advanced rifles. A dozen would-be cartographers meet their end this way, and the airships are forced to desist, lest they lose too much trained talent.

The Relic arrives to the university safely, and the copy-pasted Felsen character quickly begins her study of it. (Discord)

Though Vrena easily subdues C4, it fails to make headway in C5, where it meets heavy resistance from followers of the Church, who appear to be combing the area for something. With neither foot nor artillery available, Vrena is unable to dislodge these zealots.

Westmark Republik

The actions of Middenland have turned public support in both Westerveld and Westmark against their mutual neighbour. The Parliament of Westerveld is more than happy to accept the Westmarksiche delegation, and are glad to listen to what they have to say.

Eidgenossenschaft Middenland

All is quiet in the east and the south, with Westerveld and Westmark both petulantly sitting, staring across the border at their near neighbours. Meanwhile, the War in the Bush continues, even through the Winter months...
