Valannor 6345 Share Posted October 1, 2021 ᛒᚱᛖᚹᛊ ᛒᛖᚾᛖᚨᚦ ᚦᛖ ᛗᛟᚢᚾᛏᚨᛁᚾᛊ “Tae difference ‘tween science n’ magic ehs really nay tha’ big, if’n ye think o’ it.” Deep within their mountain halls, the dwarves of yore wrought awesome works of artificery within the antiquated laboratories and alchemical refineries they called home. Beneath the rock, they wove and concocted an array of concoctions and tinctures that some dared to call ‘magic,’ owing their make to the Brathmordakin - though such was only ever but a religious attribution to the alchemical depths they delved into. Once lost to time, in recent years such recipes and diagrams have been rediscovered or reinvented by the Sons and Daughters of Urguan. - All recipes are considered ‘Rare,’ and may not be recreated without having been taught the recipes. - It will be expected of the playerbase to keep track of who knows the recipes and who has taught them, as this subsection of Alchemy will not be tracked via FA. Blasting Kegs Spoiler Base: Gunpowder 4x Swiftness 5x Strength 3x Fire: Heat 2x Rage 1x Vigour Step 1: Pour the base of gunpowder into a 5 gallon keg, soak with the measures of Rage and Fire: Heat until measures are completely absorbed. Step 2: While mixing, slowly add in both Swiftness and Strength until the contents of the keg begin to crackle and pop. Step 3. Add a single measure of Vigor, seal the keg, and shake vigorously. It is during this step that one must roll a d20, and on a roll of 9 or lower, the keg will violently explode, likely sending the user flying several feet backwards in a wave of concussive force and wooden shrapnel. If it does not explode, one may insert a fuse, as the keg is now prepared for future usage. A small 5 gallon keg of a highly volatile powder, often used by Dwed miners in order to excavate or collapse cave networks, or to blow holes into a hostile fort’s wall. Strangely, the powder within is extremely dense, necessitating the presence of two men of average strength to transport the keg, or a horse-drawn cart. Once the fuse has been lit, the keg would require 5 emotes in order to detonate, during which time any interference with the fuse would defuse the keg, requiring one to insert a new fuse. If allowed to explode, the keg would send out an explosive shockwave in a 5x5m radius, sending any individual within the radius flying a distance of several [7] blocks away, likely knocking them prone and heavily bruising them if in full plate, or breaking bone if not. The effect of the keg upon stonework is profound however, capable of easily collapsing the mouths of cave networks in a shower of falling stone, or blasting a small hole into the wall of a fortress - the extent of the damage being decided by presiding moderation or ST if this item were to be used in a major vandalism or event scenario. - During the creation of this item, one must roll a d20 at the final step. If one were to roll a 9 or below, the keg would explode, sending the unwitting alchemist flying directly into the nearest wall from the shockwave. - When used in a vandalism or event scenario, the presiding Moderator or Story Team member may decide the extent of the damage. Additionally, the Keg requires RO or PRO permission to utilize on a tile, in a non-event scenario. - This concoction does not emit heat, flame, or light. It is a purely concussive force upon ignition by flame administered through the fuse. If one were to attempt to use this recipe outside of the specified keg, it would not work, as the contents are not condensed enough to elicit any real damage. - This item may not be casually transported due to its unnatural density, requiring 2 men or a cart drawn by a horse to transport effectively. When transporting, one would move at half of their usual movement speed. - If the keg were to be breached before detonation and begin spilling the powder, the keg would be rendered useless. - Wooden shrapnel sent out as a result of this keg’s use would never be capable of penetrating anything but thin clothing, with thick leathers being sufficient to protect from the damage. - This item must be ST signed. - Tier 3 Korkoss’Varekan Spoiler Base: Liquid Mana 3x Aether (Any) 2x Endurance 2x Connection 3x Purity 1x Light Finely Ground Anorum Dust Step 1: Pour the Liquid Mana into a vessel of some sort, preferably a small bowl, and sprinkle with the dust of ground Anorum crystals. Add both measures of Connection, and those of Endurance. Step 2: Strain the measures of ‘Purity’ through a sieve while stirring the mixture over a low flame. Step 3: Add the measure of ‘Light,’ ensuring that the mixture is not struck by moonlight. It then must be stored in a closed and non-transparent container, such as a metal jar, until use as a paint or ink. Originally pioneered by the Dwed of Clan Starbreaker, Star-Ruhns are created using the mixture ‘Korkoss’varekan’ described above, utilizing a carefully curated written dialect of the Dwarvish language, intended for use with the concoction. If one were to write a message with this ink in the ‘Star-Ruhn’ dialect, and then allow it to be exposed to the light of the moon, they would find the text to refract and change, becoming ‘keyed’ to the light of that specific moon - meaning that the runes might be read upon the day and hour of the IRL week in which they were written under moonlight, though would glow regardless of the day, which must be noted on any item utilizing this concoction. If the dialect is not used, the message will refract regardless of the moon or its phase. For example, a message scribed with Star-Ruhns in the Korkoss’varekan would require, either via signs or in the item description, something along the following lines to be written; “Upon the light of The First Seed upon the 17th, one would find a series of glowing runes to shine here.” or [This item has had Korkoss’varekan star-ruhns scribed upon it, only visible on a Thursday at 6:00pm EST. Contact (Name) to read!] In order to read a message scribed in this manner, the ink must be directly exposed to moonlight; or by means of moonlight refracted through Anorum crystals. Because of this, the ancient Starbreakers would often have grand tables wrought of the precious sea glass, for the purpose of viewing the hidden messages. - One must be taught to read and write the ‘Star-Ruhn’ dialect, and may not automatically assume that they know it, even if they know the Dwarvish language. One may know how to read Star-Ruhns without knowing this recipe. - If scribed in the Star-Ruhn dialect, the message may only be read upon the IRL day and hour in which it was written. If not, it may be read regardless of the time of day. Those who know this recipe would, in the same period of time as it takes for one to perform the ‘Identification’ process, be able to ascertain under what conditions a particular Star-Ruhn message would be legible. - Messages written in Korkoss’varekan are only able to be read by the light of the moon, necessitating that they be placed outside, or read outside. - Messages written in Korkoss’varekan should always have some method left behind to contact the writer so the message can be properly read, if it is not included on the item in question. This could be locked signs, signs stating their discord information and to contact them, etc. - Tier 2 - Does not require an ST signature. Forgedust Spoiler Base: Sand 2x Heat 1x Instability 3x Swiftness 1x Vigour Originally devised by a travelling smith of the Underkingdom who tired of having to locate a furnace to conduct his work, ‘Forgedust’ is usually a red-colored powder with the texture and coarseness of rough sand, that would glimmer in the presence of heat. When spread across the surface of an object, it would adhere to the metallic surface, and when placed over flame for a duration of time, would rapidly heat up and dissolve into smoke - heating the object to a red-hot temperature over the span of narrative minutes, if a full measure of Forgedust is used. It would fall harmlessly to the floor if an object were to move too swiftly, making it useless in combative applications. Smaller amounts of Forgedust would yield lower temperatures. - Can not be used in combat whatsoever, or to harm another individual. - For the purposes of smithing, Forgedust may be used in unison with a campfire or other font of flame in order to heat the object, acting as a substitute for a furnace. An anvil and the like is still required to properly smith an item. - It's literally just a substitute for a furnace. - Tier 1 - Does not require an ST signature. Arkenlyte Spoiler Base: Liquid Mana 3x Aether (Any) 2x Endurance 2x Rigidity 3x Connection 3x Purity 1-2x Light Seeking to harness the light of the night sky after the discovery of Moonsteel, the ancient Dwed soon devised a way to accomplish such a feat, dubbing the resulting substance ‘Arkenlyte,’ or alternatively ‘Starglass.’ Able to be shaped and molded like clay prior to the addition of ‘Rigidity’ and ‘Light,’ this concoction allows the creation of crystalline structures such as hewn stones, lantern lenses, etc. that would glow with the brightness of either a redstone torch (1x Light) or a normal lantern (2x Light,) looking akin to the light of a star plucked from the night sky - a beautiful sight that inspires wonder and intrigue in even the most casual of viewers. This recipe is for enough of the substance to craft a formation of Arkenlyte that would fit comfortably in the palm of one’s hand. Curiously, if one were to shatter a stone of Arkenlight (requiring only the force needed to break ceramic), a bright flash of faux-starlight would resound in a 3 block radius, blinding any who were looking in the stone’s direction for 2 emotes, fading after the third emote. Once shattered, the stone’s light would fade, becoming useless hunks of alchemical rock thereafter. - Would only glow with the brightness of either a torch or redstone torch, depending on the amount of Light symbols used in its creation. - May be freely shaped into various shapes and forms, such as the lens of a lantern, or a hewn gemstone, prior to the addition of Rigidity and Light to the concoction. - If shattered, the stone would release a bright flash of light in a 3x3 radius, blinding any who gazed in its direction for a duration of 2 emotes, the visual impairment fading on the third emote. - Cannot blind an individual unless shattered. - Tier 3 - Requires an ST signature. Credits & Purpose: Valannor - Writing, Conceptualization, etc. Nivndil - Permission to use the Starbreaker name & feedback Nooblius - Criticism/Feedback TheBlackBobRoss - Criticism/Feedback I’ve noticed that traditionally, aside from Warforging, there has been relatively little in the way of more ‘Dwarven’ themed recipes and concoctions in the Alchemy niche, when there’s a good bit of inspiration to pull from. This is a relatively simple piece looking to add some more flavor and useful alchemical items to the lineup.

hotbox_monk 957 Share Posted October 1, 2021 Non Dwarf writes the most based lore for the Dwarven community. Dwarf = Thankful. Seriously though, I enjoy the angle you're going about expanding the Dwarven niche for alchemy and other types of crafts that could otherwise be deemed traditional-esque that would give some reinvigoration within clans and bloodlines :D+1
