“Trash, I tell you! those old codgers had no idea how to work with magic at all…”

For the purposes of brevity, this piece shall dispose with flavorful language and focus strictly on mechanics, which mainly consist of adding flavor and world-building capability to the vast majority of magics currently on the server, allowing them the ability to add more depth and mystique to their builds and contribute more to a given narrative through direct roleplay such as making these structures, or indirect roleplay as leaving them behind to be interacted with by the player base at large. As well, this piece will serve to update an incredibly dated lore piece (Holocrons,) which thus far has been occasionally used, though it's incredibly vague nature has not lent well to its usage, despite the massive potential of the piece in question. Additions may be made to this piece in the future via addition pieces with new structures.

Spoiler

- Voidal, Deific, and Dark magicks may create the listed structures through the following means.

  • Nephilim/Heralds may feed a structure with their Dragonsflame or Draan in order to power it (2 units of Dragonflame for Nephilim, equivalent heat exhaustion for Heralds.)

  • Deific Mages may place a power crystal of some sort (Lightstone, Kuila for Paladins/Druids) or otherwise expend a great deal of energy, if a power crystal is not present in a lore piece, to power a structure (Malch Templars, Seers, Shamans.)

  • Dark magi may expend a quarter of their total resource reserve (Mysticism, Naztherak, Blood Magic) or equivalent exhaustion (Necromancy, Frost Witch) in order to power a structure.

  • Voidal Magi may power a structure through utilization of a Mana Obelisk, placing the structure in the obelisk’s radius.

- These structures are strictly non-combative and serve no combative purpose or application.

- These structures must be mechanically accessible, and may not be hidden behind excess amounts of iron doors, locked in solid walls with no way to access them, etc. per Moderation standards.

- One must be taught how to create these structures in roleplay by an individual who holds the knowledge.

- Abjuration, Thanhium, Auric Oil, etc. all exist as viable ways of destroying these structures.

- For the purposes of events, ET may utilize these structures freely with their power source left ambiguous if so chosen.

- These structures all require an ST approved sign to be placed on their build or item, so as to ensure validity and the adherence to all outlined mechanics.

Holocrons & Lexicons

Originally devised by Kalameet Izalith centuries ago from the remnants of an ancient progenitor, the devices known as Holocrons & Lexicons have been further refined over the ages by sorcerers of various disciplines; be they hallowed or profane. The two devices possess an intrinsic reliance upon one another to complete their shared function- the display and transfer of information through the use of magick.

Lexicons are the means by which information is stored, which may come in one of three formats; that being the Lexicon may display either written text, play audio, or display visuals when inserted into a Holocron, conjured of the aesthetic being used to power them - e.g, dragonfire for Nephilim-based Lexicons, faux blood for Blood Magic, etc. Any voice beyond a singular voice being recorded would become warped and distorted, and any attempts to ‘record’ individuals would result in vague silhouettes, as the Lexicon is only ever able to accurately display their creator; meaning Lexicons may not be used as infallible cameras or audio recorders, due to their limitations - and as they store only a given piece of information decided at the time of their creation, by encoding specific runes and manipulating one’s magickal power in given ways, they may not be created in stressful or combative situations.

Lexicons are always based in some sort of crystalline material, be it Foci Crystals, Anorum, Carbarum, etc. imbued with power from a given magick, then adorned with a precious metal of choice, which holds the enchantment - and thus, the information within. These objects may take on a number of physical aesthetics pertaining to the magick used to create them, provided such is strictly non-combative in nature. One may, as well, pair a Lexicon with a Holocron at the time of the creation of both items - meaning the Lexicon will only output information to that Holocron. One may attempt to, if they know how to create Lexicons, ‘crack’ the encryption and make the information within accessible by rolling out of 20, with a 13+ being a success. On a failure, the Lexicon is rendered inert.

Spoiler
  • Lexicons may only ever store one type of information; written text, audio, or predetermined visuals conjured of the aesthetic of the magic powering the Lexicon. The images themselves, if visual, may be either wrought entirely of a given aesthetic or display the image specified in a sort of window bordered by the aesthetic.

  • One may not create Lexicons in combat, or in stressful situations.

  • Attempting to encode the audio or attempted visual recording of any other than the creator would result in warped voices, faded silhouettes, or otherwise result in the individuals in question being unidentifiable.

  • Lexicons must possess a satisfactory description detailing the information contained within, or must be mechanical book and quills if description space does not suffice.

  • Event Lexicons may contain all types of information at once, at E.T discretion.

  • One may never decipher a Lexicon’s stored information without the aid of a Holocron.

  • One may attempt to decipher the encryption of an encrypted Lexicon by studying and otherwise fiddling with it, succeeding on a roll of 13+. If the roll threshold is not reached, the Lexicon will be rendered inert.

Holocrons serve as the output to the Lexicon’s input; worthless without a Lexicon as a Lexicon is without a Holocron. These structures function purely to display or otherwise decipher a Lexicon’s contents, once the Lexicon has been inserted into the structure by whatever means ordained at the time of the Holocron’s creation. Generally, Holocrons take the form of small monuments or altars, acting as stationary structures upon which a large crystal or glass sphere would sit; and upon the insertion of a Lexicon, the information be displayed within or be projected from the Holocron. The crystal or sphere, as with Lexicons, may take on any aesthetic pertaining to the magick used to power it. Projections may encompass the radius of the room the Holocron occupies if so desired, or if in an extremely large room or placed outside, a 25x25m radius.

Spoiler
  • Follows all redlines & guidelines for what may be stored within Lexicons.

  • Must be stationary. If moved, the structure will be considered destroyed.

  • May not be used combatively whatsoever.

  • May not be hidden behind excessive amounts of iron doors, or otherwise made inaccessible via break-in rules.

Hidden Doors

While usually made from the marvels of engineering, one may instead utilize sorcery to seal a given door shut, these entrances often being flush or hidden against walls and the like. By adorning the inside of the doorway with precious metals and a crystalline material of one’s choice, and following the process of enchantment for a given magic, they may seal a door completely shut; becoming unable to be opened without a specific key phrase. Mechanically, this is represented with hidden switch doors and their keys, subscribing to all moderation guidelines regarding said doors. They may be identified by a faint magickal mark that would act as their ‘switch,’ this just being the hidden switch block.

Spoiler
  • Literally just an IRP explanation for hidden doors and another way to IRPly open them. Subscribes to all moderation and ST guidelines pertaining to hidden switch doors, and mechanically, still function as hidden doors with keys.

  • Alternatively, as an event resource, E.T may utilize these magically sealed doors in any way they see fit.

  • May be located by use of an Arcana Flow potion IRPly. If one were to use Thanhium, Abjuration, or similar methods of disrupting magick on these doors, one would be able to use such as a lockpicking attempt, subscribing to all normal lockpicking guidelines.

because the old lore is incredibly dated and says crazy **** like needing tempered carbarum threading when literally not a soul will ever find carbarum let alone use it for a godhead hologram with the same function as a bookshelf
