DahStalker 2837 Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2021 (edited) BucketBall [Au Commencement Il Y Eut By Claire Nadaud] TOC ____________ Introduction Origins Modern Day Principles Closing Remarks Introduction: Through years of good and bad, the kin of the four brothers evolved through spirit, traditions, and insight. However while they dealt with the foul spawn of Iblees and discovered the wonders left behind by their ancestors and deities they developed pastimes in which they could bask in the light of fun and solace; away from the daily cruelty of labor and corruption. Thus through evolving principles from a variety of different handball games the modern-day sport ‘BucketBall’ was formed, becoming popular across the span of the realm after its adoption within the human domains. This point-based tourney has developed beyond its original meaning and thus advanced into something so much more compared to its senior adaptations. ORIGINS ______________________________ The origins of the modern-day sport ‘BucketBall’ derived from various handball games spanning across the realm, the primary ones which inspired the game are referenced as ‘The Three Grandparents”; Kha Tlachtli, Halfling Cabbage Toss, and Auvergne Bal de Guerre. That inspired its founder to evolve it further. These collective sports all had major influence within the present-day adaption of our beloved sport. Each presenting a key component to carry the game with newfound principle and method. ____________________________________ “The Three Grandparents” Kha Tlachtli was the earliest rendition of the handball game originally being a method of punishment and proxy warfare. With the players of the games being made up of war prisoners and slaves at first it soon evolved into a deep ritualist event concluding in the losing team being sacrificed as well as something in which chieftains would settle arguments among their respective clans or even use it as a method of land grabs. The participants would be dressed in religious garb and their hips would be donned with padded leather-guards to protect them from the small hard rubber ball used within the games. The principle of the game would be to use their hips to knock and strike these rubber balls against vertical walls within their walled arenas in which they’d strike to obtain points via stone rings bound to the surfaces. Auvergne Bal de Guerre is an old handball sport developed within the Orenian capital of Petrus within Athera from Savoyard immigrants. It consisted of a pig bladder or leather ball filled with hay which was tossed, kicked, thrown, or hit with a stick across a meadow or farmland outside the bustling citadel. Peasants would play this sport in large and brutal quantities, usually ranging up to nearly forty players plus, lasting for hours. It was used as a stress or anger reliever as this sport usually resulted in several different injuries and sometimes broken limbs due to how crude in nature it was. The principle of the game was simple; to convey between each team a goal, sometimes being a certain tree or location in the area they played, and to get the ball there. Halfling Cabbage Toss is the most comparable to the modern rendition of BucketBall, brought to the scene thanks to the halfling known as Maggy Fiddleberry. It started off as Apple Toss played among the youth in the halfling villages though soon due to many bruises and what was referenced as ‘owies’ among the elder Halflings they adopted to use the softer alternative being; a Cabbage. And thus the game Cabbage Toss was born where they tossed the vegetable into a basket between two teams or individually to obtain points, one per shot. Earliest Adaption Unc, the historic lead detective of the MOJ and member of the Cathalon Five, created the nameless game sometime during the first twenty years within Almaris. Unc attributed inspiration from his imprisonment in Ratmane's surreal and otherworldly prison. The game only needed a leather ball and a crudely designed court in Providence's main square. This accrued massive engagement and popularity within Providence, inadvertently drawing the capital into attendance. The game was soon banned after a finalizing duel between Detective Unc and Simon Pruvia resulted in a 5-4 win for the MOJ's detective. Their showdown represented an intense feud between the MOJ and ISA that would later erupt in violence. The proto-version of this primitive bucketball utilized a ball and hoop with a stitched net. Teams consisted of one to three players, however one-to-ones were most popular. The defending player would have no ball, physically pushing the attacking player out of the hoop's range. The attacking player was prohibited from pushing the defending player, only relying on wit and skill to jump the ball into the hoop past the defender. After the ball is thrown, whether scoring or not, the players switch sides. MODERN DAY __________________ Bucketball is a full-contact sport with various origins that became popular in Almaris. It was founded by the man named Unc, and popularized as well as modified by Henry Penton. The game is played with a five-person team and a ball that can come made of various materials such as; rubber, animal bladder, and other alchemical substances. A team can only score by putting the ball into the bucket, adapted to having its bottom cut out. Depending on how far the ball is thrown, two, three, or five points are rewarded by the monks. Fields are strewn with various natural obstacles, requiring competitors to make a show of athleticism. However it is popular for some nations to adopt an official court or location for the game, inspired by one of the ancestor handball games, Kha Tlachtli. The sport can get quite rough, and most players wear padding of some type. Popular among players are padded coifs and gambesons, usually sporting the team's logo or colors. Magic and weaponry are both forbidden but shifty players continue their use to this day. As a result of the roughness, there is usually a healer of some type on duty, though any player who receives healing must sit out the rest of the match. After interest was caught by the renowned author and sportsfan Henry Penton, he formed the Almaris Bucketball Association, better known as the ABA. THE ABA Formed in 48SA (1844 IST), the Almaris Bucketball Association (ABA) was the union of the International Bucketball League (IBL) and the Western Almaris Championship League (WACL). Bucketball is a game that involves throwing a ball into a bottomless bucket. The competitive sport has many different origin stories. Most popular among humans is Detective Unc threw a pig's head into a rain catcher during an investigation, which ultimately produced street games of the sport using cabbages and other circular objects. Alternatively, non-humans often theorize that the sport is of Orcish origin and was more physically violent when first played. Regardless, the ABA is dedicated to entertaining the crowds of Almaris with thrilling games of basketball. Depending on weather and transportation concerns, games and their results will be announced every day or so. Fans are encouraged to root for their favorite team, define things such as the stadium, or find other ways to expand the culture of the sport. The Almaris Bucketball Association consists of two Conferences; West and East, as well as an amatuer division. The Western Conference consists of; The Varhelm Berserkers, The Elvenesse Bucks, The San Luciano Saints, The Karosgrad Ravens, The Iron Uzg Krugs, The Vortice Krakens, The Elysium Foxes, and The Yong Ping Dragons. The Eastern Conference consists of; The Freeport Pigeons, The Kal’Darakaan Miners, The Du Loc Flames, The Haelun’or Purifiers, The Providence Vigilants, The Talus Grove Druids, The Rozania Rabbits, and The Fakhr Dunes. The amatuer division consists of; The Honeyhill Hedgehogs, The Fennic Blizzards, The Valwyck Bears, and the Halcourt Eagles. PRINCIPLES ______________________ The Ball: Taking inspiration from the leather balls used in Bal de Guerre, many who can afford such luxury prefer to have a much lighter stuffed ball of the same material due to its favored flexibility and tenderness such as the Halflings desired in their handball game Cabbage Toss. The Courts: The arenas for playing are designed to have one basket with its bottom cut out which is hung from a higher level as inspired by the stone rings within Kha Tlachtli, surrounded in a half circle which is referred to as ‘the arch’ and further behind that are two squares on either flank and between them with moderate space is usually a line indicating where the ball is tipped from. Each location holds a designated meaning as they are reflective of how many points are scored from successful tosses made from them. From within the confines of the arc when scored the team is credited two points, from within the squares they are credited five points, and within the court lines every other score credits the team with three points. The Gear: Most teams are usually padded with leather pauldrons and knee braces but beyond that wear lighter flexible padded coifs and color gambesons usually decorated with team logos and sometimes numeric markings for easy locating. The popularity of the numbered attire came from unfortunate daftness of bewildered elves and thus to fix their perplexed nature the adoption of numbered gambesons was swiftly welcomed. The Play: Each player is assigned in certain positions (as shown in the diagrams below) and the given referees throw the ball up in the middle, starting the game. From then the players try to tip the ball onto their side and from that point onward it is about getting the ball into the bucket. Wherever the player's feet were before jumping or where they were standing counts for the points scored if it goes in the bucket. The process is then repeated until the timer runs out. There are two halves of a game marked as the first quarter and second quarter, the duration of each being thirty minutes, a full game being an hour. Spoiler CLOSING REMARKS_____________________ Bucketball is a game of spirit, ferocity, and collaboration. It has thus developed and evolved through time to where it has different meaning to each race or nation which plays it, some bending the rules of it slightly to fit their culture better. Some nations have started to use the handball game as a proxy-wargame to develop the trust of their soldiers or to settle conflict among groups meanwhile others just play it in the streets for fun. Though the enjoyment of it remains all the same. As the retired Bucketball player Lhoris “the Dunker” once said, “Let’s play ball.” Spoiler Hello. Let's Play Ball.
