Norgeth 1111 Popular Post Share Posted November 5, 2021 OBLAZEKI GNOMES SONS OF THE HIDDEN CITY [!] An Oblazeki Elder PREFACE & ORIGIN Going by many names and monikers throughout the vast descendent realms, The Gnomish People of Oblazekos are a curious and diminutive folk – A distinct and rich culture within the wider Halfling Race. They found their beginnings long ago, when the first early halflings walked the face of the world as thieves and scoundrels, stealing from the larger folk with swiftness and the ability to fit into smaller areas then most others. Yet this was not the way of Oblazek, a humble preacher and prophet who rallied forth his following in the name of The Creator, he preached that honor, hard-work and faith would deliver his kin from danger, and that they were mighty in spirit, all the same as their larger descendant brothers. Thus they set forth, to break their own path in the world. A far away city was forged! And from humble beginnings did the hidden city grow with Oblazek as its wise leader. He ruled with grace, and when he passed on, the city was christened anew in his name – as the hidden city of Oblazekos. From its small beginnings the city flourished, walls were constructed to defend the people, and the central spire stretched upwards to reach the sky! This time of plenty lasted, and the gnomish people grew mighty in wealth and spirit… yet not all would last forever. Perhaps it was fate, or the act of a malign god – but one peaceful night did a light in the sky begin to grow brighter, growing in size and intensity as it tumbled towards Oblazekos! Down came the central spire of the city as all burned around it, destroyed by that dreadful doom from the dark skies, the majority of Obalzeki died that day, and the survivors spread out across the mortal realms in sorrow, forever grieving their lost home. Yet, not all was lost, and the spirit of the Gnomish People remains bright – them always seeking to better themselves and their kinfolk, a new home will be found one day, that is sure. APPEARANCE & SIZE The Oblazeki Gnomes are a relatively homogenous grouping of Halflings, almost all being descended from the initial settlers of Oblazekos – ages of wandering have incorporated some foreign traits to the Oblazeki, but they have mostly stayed to themselves within small secluded camps and villages. The statue and build of the Oblazeki is strict, them almost all being short and stocky, even by Halfling standards. Standing around 2 foot at the shortest to 2 foot 6 at the tallest, there is little difference in size between genders, with both male and female Gnomes standing at around the same height and weight. Most Oblazeki are pale skinned, similar to Highlander Humans and Mountain Dwarves. If an Oblazeki has more sallow skin, it is a clear sign of mixture with other types of halfling, which is not considered taboo, though it is rare. Oblazeki hair colour is varied, with them having the hair colours of the aforementioned Highlanders – partially common however is a bright white, and many other gnomes gray early within their lifetime. Eye colours are the same as hair, with them being natural and within the range of an average human or dwarf. Gnomish Clothing is often very simple, with practicality and ease of use being a unifying trait, it is often woven from common plant fibers or roughly spun wool. Gnomish traditional dress typically takes the form of a humble tunic, trousers, and felt boots – above all however, is the large and pointed felt cap that so many associate with the Oblazeki, this item of clothing is almost considered sacred, with most gnomes not leaving the house without one atop their head. All Oblazeki wear the cap, and to be without one is considered most embarrassing. CULTURE Gnomish Culture is very focused upon their religion and faith, with it being the very reason for the creation of their culture all those years ago. The faith is centered around worship and praise of The Creator, known to the Oblazeki as The Great-One. Believed to have created all and to be all powerful, The Great-One is venerated by nearly all of the Gnomish People. Along with the Great-One, there is a simplistic form of ancestor veneration, with those Obalzeki of the past being given thanks for their wisdom and contributions to history. The central figure of this is Oblazek, who is believed to have been divinely inspired, empowered with undying wisdom from The Great-One himself. It is believed that Oblazek reincarnates by way of this divinely granted wisdom, and returns to aid the Gnomish people when they need it the most. So far, there have been four figures in Oblazeki history that are widely considered to be Incarnations of Oblazek. Those being as follows 1 : Oblazek The First, The Founder. 2 : Aob The Wise, The Tomekeeper. 3 : Thordin The Brave, The Warrior. 4 : Fargrum The Wanderer, The Explorer. Various branches and ‘houses’ have emerged from the bloodlines of those Incarnations, with them acting as noble figures within Oblazeki society – the most active of which is the House of Aob, known amongst the gnomes for their great wisdom and thirst for knowledge, they have been known to deal with the supernatural and alchemical in search of further wisdom or power. Oblazeki not born of these houses are not considered lesser or a separate caste, for they hold the vast wisdom of everyday life and can equally rise to the station of their house-born kin. Oblazeki Crafts are simple and utilitarian, with a focus being placed on humble natural materials. A vast swath of trades can be found within the Gnomish People, ranging from tailors to carpenters to everything inbetween – it is traditional for Oblazeki to also practice farming along with these trades, producing food from humble crops and small varieties of sheep and goat. These foods are either stored for later, or sold at a local market, depending on the situation in question. Oblazeki are not a combative people, preferring to talk or flee from a situation before violence escalates, however – sometimes there is not an option and one must defend themselves or their family from various wild beasts, or ransacking bandits. Too small to use a normal sized polearm or spear, the Oblazeki have developed a versatile variety of staff-sling, capable of tossing stones and lead-bullets a far distance with great force. The other end of the staff is often capped in a short iron spike, allowing it to be used as a walking stick in rough terrain, or as a makeshift spear should the need arise. OOC INFORMATION Those who have read the Oblazeki Culture post before have probably noticed that it has changed, and that is because we decided that we needed a refresh of the same ideas, but in a new and improved writing style. We tried to keep the post short and sweet, allowing a good amount of freedom within the culture while still getting the point across. Thank you for giving this a read, and we hope you have fun if you stumble upon the Oblazeki Gnomes in game.
