Burnsider 4542 Popular Post Share Posted December 8, 2021 No Barclays Among Savoyards A Speech by Gunter Barclay in the Courtyard of Karosgrad Gunter Barclay fidgeted as he stood up on one of the merchant stalls near the courtyard of Karosgrad. He had never spoken in front of so many people before, but he had been trained for this moment, knowing that it would come and just not form it would take. It was time. He cleared his throat and let out a whooping sound to draw others near. Then, he spoke. My name is Gunter Barclay and I am new to your lands. I was born in Sutica, and raised in Savoy. Yes, yes, I know! But I am not of the line that produced the traitorous snake who sent that letter this very day committing sacrilege and heresy! I came to your land last month in the dead of night, riding a horse as fast as I could. My guardian, who raised me since I was a babe, had roused me from my slumber. 'Gunter,' he said to me. 'It is no longer safe in Freimark or San Luciano for you, for any of us. You must travel north to the land of your ancestors, the birthplace of your father, to the white lands of Haense.' I knew not why I traveled up here those few weeks ago, but I know now. For there were plans being made to create a schism in the church, to tear brother against brother, to tear Canonist against Canonist, and let clerical blood run red in the streets. This action would have been condemned by my father, Sir Obrecht, loyal knight and subject of Georg I and Johanna I of Sutica, had his cousins in the southern lands not helped orchestrate his death. This action would have been condemned by my great-uncle, Blessed Nicolas, who was martyred protecting the clergy from the very forces now arrayed against the true Church again. This action would have been condemned by my great-grandfather, Tylos I, the prior Pontiff before the rightful Pontiff Everard VI. And I say to you now that this action is condemned by every Barclay who resides in Reinmar, and those abroad. Indeed, I truly believe there are many down in the sandy desert as we speak who would speak out against this action if it would not mean sharing the same fate as my father. I tell you now that any man from the south speaking these heresies and blasphemies against the true and rightful church are not Barclays in my mind. I call upon all still worthy Barclays to make their way back north as I have and leave behind the pretender Christoff, who has chosen the Void as his final home. For there shall be no Barclays among Savoyards as long as this blasphemer still draws breath! The boy sighed and slumped to the ground, exhausted. It would be a long trial, this schism. He prayed to GOD he was ready for it.

Gandhi 2658 Share Posted December 8, 2021 August Barclay hardily bobbed his head, "Wer Rastet Der Rostet." He'd state with a grin.
