A CA race intended for non-combative magicians, showrunners, pranksters, and anyone else who can use a bit of mischievous, good-hearted magic in their life.

Ambient Music

Origin

A story has been told time and time again–of Cedwyn and her child. Cedwyn is said to have been a frail, aging woman, who had born a single daughter that shared her frailty. Once upon a time, Cedwyn’s daughter, Cedli, had fallen very ill. Doctors said the girl was near death. However, in Cedwyn and Cedli’s time of need, an unorthodox doctor came to aid them; a man with jet black eyes. He offered the mother an ultimatum: if she were to take his deal, her daughter would live, but the child and her bloodline would be altered forevermore; cursed to always be frail and weak, and to never be able to harm any other living person. However, the strange doctor assured her that her daughter would live a long, happy life.

Cedwyn accepted the deal.

Cedli woke the next morning with entirely jet black eyes, just like the strange doctor. Years later, letters from an anonymous sender arrived by mail, written in an unreadable script–yet Cedli seemed to understand them. These letters taught her to channel magical abilities, mostly curses, blessings, and illusions, meant to frighten and charm.

Cedli would go on to live a long, happy life. True to the man’s word, Cedli never found it within her to hurt another living humanoid being. She had tried, sure, but had never quite been able to work up the courage to attack. Despite this, she always managed to escape from violent trouble with her life thanks to the abilities that she bore.

Culture

Children of Cedli are indoctrinated into what some call a “cult” by drinking a concoction known as the Blood of Cedli. These people are not always directly descended from Cedli (in fact, it is disputed what race she was, and how one can tell if she is an ancestor of theirs), but some claim to be. Others simply follow her way of life. No matter their reason in doing so, those who consume the Blood of Cedli fall into a deep sleep shortly thereafter, awakening the next morning with solid unicolor eyes and the very weak beginnings of latent magical abilities.

Cedli’s Code

Children of Cedli and her followers all follow a very strict code in living their lives. There is only one tenet to their code: never attempt to intentionally harm another person, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Children of Cedli are moreso held to the spirit of the Code than the word of the Code. If a Child of Cedli is tricked into causing someone’s death, other Children do not see this as a breaking of the Code, for example.

Cedli’s code is not a physical restriction upon the Children of Cedli, rather, their mindset simply changes to lean towards escaping violent situations and trouble like that using magic and ingenuity, instead of combat and violent force.

Breaking of the Code is strictly disallowed by Children of Cedli (and it is said Cedli herself frowns upon doing such), to the point where the Children that have imbibed Cedli’s blood will find it effectively impossible to hurt someone else. In a life or death situation, a Child may find it possible to attack and fight someone. They may never intentionally kill–this is part of their mindset.

Other Children

Children of Cedli view one another as siblings, and often feel a tug to help one another in their adventures–whether it be something serious like avoiding a tyrant’s wrath, or something more silly, like playing pranks or causing mischief. Some cities have entire homes built that Children of Cedli reside in together as a family, either temporarily or permanently.

Four times in an Elven year–typically around the solstices and equinoxes of the Elven year–Children of Cedli meet at a predetermined location at last year’s meeting to spend time together, see old friends and family, discuss Cedli, share magical advice and tips, and of course, drink, party, and cause mischief! After all, it is said Cedli herself loved to do these three things.

On The Topic of Mischief

Cedli’s children often enjoy causing mischief and slight amounts of mayhem around themselves. However, not all Children of Cedli subscribe to this belief, and consider other Children a nuisance to others around them. They are all united, though, in believing that their pranks and silliness should never go too far–if someone clearly is angry or upset, then Cedli’s children usually like to apologize and perhaps even offer a favor or a trinket as a way of saying sorry.

((TL;DR Cedli’s children are not supposed to be universal douchebags. They like causing pranks and mischief, but they don’t want to seriously upset or hurt anyone!))

Other Descendants

Children of Cedli are not terribly shy around their fellow people of Almaris, and oftentimes even go out of their way to help people, even if they like causing trouble. While they are generally happy to discuss Cedli and her teachings, they are somewhat cagey about explaining their magical abilities unless they deem it important. After all, a magician never reveals their secrets.

Mindset

Cedli’s children generally tend towards being lighthearted pranksters and goofballs. Some act more seriously than others, of course, and may even frown upon some of the mischief caused by their siblings, but at the end of the day, they’re all siblings that usually want to watch out for each other.

Cedli’s children see each other as siblings or cousins, save for the rare romantic couples that were together before becoming Children of Cedli. Some may address each other with endearing terms such as “sister” or “cousin,” though of course not everyone behaves this way.

They generally dislike revealing much about their abilities other than that they are granted them by Cedli, and that they use them for good. The ritual to become a Child of Cedli is seen as very taboo to discuss around non-children, and even then, it’s a serious subject.

Cedli’s children often are chaotic and good aligned–this is not to say none of them obey laws or expectations, though. However, since they cannot even harm other people, they tend to get along well with others, tending towards being good or at least amicable people to be around.

Cedli’s children love pranks, but also have a rule in their lives that they must never harm other people. If they accidentally do hurt someone else, they usually apologize profusely, and try to make up for it. Due to the effects of Cedli’s blood on their mindset, they never want to try and seriously harm others.

Cedli’s children find it difficult to intentionally kill or cause the death of another person due to the effects of becoming one of Cedli’s children on their mindset, though this is not a physical restriction. They follow Cedli’s code to the spirit of it, not the exact letter. For example, breaking a Sorvian’s mask is still considered killing, so a Child of Cedli would never do such a thing.

Cedli’s children can easily identify one another, even without seeing their distinguishing trait of unicolored eyes. They feel this as a slight sensation in the tips of their fingers and toes when another Child is within 10 meters or so. If they so wish, they can focus more intently to get a sense of direction of the other Child(ren).

Physical Description

Two traits set apart Cedli’s children from others: their unicolor eyes, meaning that their eyes are all one singular color (including the iris, pupil, and sclera). Very, very rarely, Cedli’s children can have multicolored eyes. Those who do either have flecks of other colors in their eyes, or have two differently colored eyes. Cedli’s children have very easy to spot eyes–some say this is so that if they do cause unjust trouble, they are easy to spot so that they can be dealt with.

Cedli’s children are also unusually weak compared to other people. Being punched by a Child of Cedli (which would be about as likely as spotting a phoenix or a unicorn) feels more like being punched by a small child. Yes, it stings for a moment, but it’s easily shrugged off. They also are frail, meaning that if anyone or anything were to try to hurt them, they would experience about 1.5x the force or pain as a normal person. This is not a hard and fast number, rather, just a guideline. Use your best judgment. A Child of Cedli can stub their toe and walk it off, but they won’t be shrugging off a hammer or sword strike very easily, even in armor, which they find uncomfortable to wear for long periods due to their low stamina.

Casting

Utilizing abilities as a Child of Cedli is a simple enough process once mastered, requiring them to envision the effect(s) they wish to produce in their mind’s eye, clearing their mind of any distractions, and envisioning the effect they wish to produce nearly perfectly. As they are casting, a Child draws what effect they wish to produce in the air, as it appears as a faint glow in front of them. Some swap this drawing in the air for actual drawing in a sketchbook or even on their own hand. Whilst casting, a Child’s eyes begin to slightly glow.

Tier Progression

Like most magics and similar CAs, Children of Cedli progress in a five-tier system that denotes what abilities they can perform, & at what level. Remember that you need active lessons (use your best judgment) to progress in tier.

Tier 1 (Novice): Novice Children understand broken Cedlani and have the ability to create false images in the minds of others, but their grasp on Cedlani is weak, and their illusions typically don’t last very long, nor do they oft appear believable for extended periods of time. Lasts two weeks OOCly. Using any ability other than Cedlani leaves them tired and weakened.

Tier 2 (Apprentice): Apprentice Children have mastered Cedlani and have begun to learn more complex abilities. They can now manifest fog, stronger images, and sensations of touch. Lasts for three weeks OOCly before reaching tier 3 (5 total). They can cast two or three abilities before becoming weak and tired, needing to rest.

Tier 3 (Journeyman): Journeyman Children have a stronger hold on their illusions, and are learning the basics of vanishing from sight, briefly blinding foes, and creating Masks. These Children have hit their stride in regards to their magical talents. Lasts for five weeks OOCly before reaching tier 4 (10 total). They can cast a few minor or one larger ability before becoming tired and needing rest.

Tier 4 (Expert): These Children are experts at using their magical abilities, being able to create mirror images and holding a strong grasp of illusions. Their Masks are more believable as well. Lasts for six weeks OOCly before reaching tier 5 (16 total). They can repeatedly cast their abilities before needing rest.

Tier 5 (Master): Some Children of Cedli reach the apex of their power, with top-tier illusions and trickery, able to make two Masks, and becoming able to create Spectacles–a way of showing off their mastery. Using their abilities comes almost as second nature, though performing multiple combative abilities in a row or a Spectacle will exhaust them.

[P] Cedlani [T1]

Cedlani is a language known only to Children of Cedli. It appears as ever-shifting nonsense to everyone, Child or not, but a Child reading Cedlani can interpret a vague feeling behind the writing. For example, writing in Cedlani to tell someone to hide is possible, but saying specifically “Hide in the third rafter on the right at the so-and-so tavern” isn’t going to work. Cedlani can be erased like any other painted, inked, or scribbled text.

Example Book:

[!] To any regular reader, this book seemed to be full of nonsense, ever-shifting characters of text that mean nothing to anyone. However, if a Child of Cedli were to read the book, a vague message would enter their head, telling them to visit the Seldom-Seen Tavern.

-Cedlani cannot communicate exact details, only vague feelings. Anything more specific than “go to this building” does not get across well.

-Cedlani appears as ever-shifting gibberish text to anyone other than Children. Unless an individual has a special ability that allows them to read this, understanding Cedlani in-character as a non-Child is considered metagaming.

[C/NC] False Image [T1]

A target within range is declared in the user’s mind. After the casting time is taken to focus and draw the illusion in their mind, the illusion takes shape within the target’s mind. The illusory object, creature, effect, et cetera cannot extend outside the range of the user. See tiers for further details. User has to focus while casting, moving 3m/turn max.

Tier 1: 1m range, illusion can’t be larger than the size of a 15 cm cube. Illusion cannot act on its own and relies on the user to decide what it does. It does not react to stimuli, such as a breeze blowing wind onto a fake creature’s fur, or someone trying to push a box over. Touching the illusion makes it fade from view. Requires 4 emotes to cast in combat, illusion taking effect on emote 4. Can last for up to 3 emotes, NOT including cast time or casting emote.

Tier 2: 5m range, illusion can’t be larger than the size of a 30cm cube. Illusion cannot act on its own and relies on the user to decide what it does. It does not react to stimuli, such as a breeze blowing wind onto a fake creature’s fur, or someone trying to push a box over. Touching the illusion makes it flicker for a few moments–continued contact makes it fade away. Requires 3 emotes to cast in combat, illusion taking effect on emote 3. Can last for up to 5 emotes, NOT including cast time or casting emote.

Tier 3: 15m range, illusion can’t be larger than a 0.5m cube. Illusion can mimic fake actions if the user wishes it, such as a fake rabbit pretending to mill about and simply do its own thing. It reacts to mild stimuli, such as a breeze, but touching it possibly reveals it as false, causing it to flicker like a hologram might. Fake actions/response to stimuli may be easily detectable as false by someone looking closely. Illusion can make noises. Requires 2 emotes to cast in combat, illusion taking effect on emote 2. Can last for up to 7 emotes, NOT including cast time or casting emote.

Tier 4: 30m range, illusion can’t be larger than a 5m cube. Illusion can accurately mimic fake actions or responses to stimuli, but an expert might be able to tell it isn’t real. Touching the illusory object or being makes it feel…similar to the real deal, but still somewhat ‘off.’ If force or pressure is applied, it flickers and fades from sight. Illusion can make noises. Requires 2 emotes to cast in combat, illusion taking effect on emote 2. Can last for up to 9 emotes, NOT including cast time or casting emote.

Tier 5: 35m range, illusion can’t be larger than a 7m cube. Illusion can accurately mimic fake actions or responses to stimuli. An expert on the subject will have difficulty discerning it from the real deal. Touching it feels just like touching the real thing. If force or pressure is applied, it flickers and fades from sight. Illusion can make noises. Requires 2 emotes to cast in combat, illusion taking effect on emote 2. Can last for up to 11 emotes, NOT including cast time or casting emote.

Example Emotes:

Anastasia glances over the tavern, deciding upon her target: the man behind the bar. Gazing intently at him from the rafters, she begins to draw an image of a mug of ale in her sketchbook.

As Anastasia finished her drawing, a huge tankard of ale appeared in front of Joe. It was easily half a meter in height. It bubbled as if ale was being actively poured into it before stabilizing a little. If anyone were to touch it, it would flicker and reveal itself as fake.

-Child must OOCly communicate to the target what the illusion looks like and its limitations, whilst clarifying it isn’t real.

-Target may not metagame knowing the illusion isn’t real unless the character is able to discern it themselves.

-False Image is a complex ability, just follow the spirit of the rules and redlines and you should be fine.

-Attempting to seriously frighten an unwilling target may be grounds for breaking one’s Code.

[C/NC] Sensation [T2]

The user causes a target creature to feel a touch-based sensation of a certain feeling, up to the user. This could be something like a tap on the back, a clap on the shoulder, or something furry rubbing against the creature’s leg. The casting is quite obvious, so the user should try to hide. Must keep target in sight! Remember, you don’t want to hurt the target, or seriously scare them, so keep that in mind when casting. The clarity of the sensation increases with tier. The user must focus whilst casting, moving 3m/turn.

Tier 2: 4 emote (20 narrative seconds) cast time. The sensation must end after 1 emote (5 narrative seconds).

Tier 3: 3 emote (15 narrative seconds) cast time. The sensation must end after 1 emote (5 narrative seconds).

Tier 4: 2 emote (10 narrative seconds) cast time. The sensation must end after 2 emotes (10 narrative seconds).

Tier 5 does not upgrade the Sensation ability’s cast time or duration.

Example Emotes:

As fake snow fell upon the crowd, a spectacle created by Veronica’s brother, Veronica herself set to work alongside her siblings to ensure it would feel just like real snow to the small gaggle of children watching the show. Veronica set her eyes upon the red-coat wearing lad, beginning to draw snowfall in her sketchbook.

As her ink faintly glowed pale blue, the color matching her flickering glowing eyes, the aforementioned child would feel the sensation of snow falling upon his shoulders and cap, as if it were all real snow.

-Must communicate OOCly to the target that the sensation isn’t real, what it feels like, how to discern it, et cetera.

-Attempting to seriously frighten an unwilling target may be grounds for breaking one’s Code.

[C/NC] Fog [T2]

The user creates a cloud of fog pinpointed on a particular area within range. From this point, fog begins to spread, making vision difficult in the area. The color of the fog matches the user’s eye color. Within the fog, view distance is reduced to 1m in front of the viewer. Strong winds or gusts disperse the fog. It is not flammable, and the fog is as perfectly breathable as oxygen. It cannot go through walls or liquid, only replacing air. The user must be able to see the target area until the spell is cast, focusing on it for up to 5 emotes until the fog quickly disperses, or when the user’s focus is broken. User has to focus while casting, moving 3m/turn max.

Tier 2: 3m range, 3m radius including user’s target location (5x5 area). Fog extends to 3m off the ground. Almost all people will not be able to see above it. Takes 3 emotes to cast in combat, taking effect on emote 3.

Tier 3: 5m range, 3.5m radius including user’s location (7x7 area). Fog extends to 4m off the ground. Takes 3 emotes to cast in combat, taking effect on emote 3.

Tier 4: 7m range, 4m radius including user’s target location (8x8 area). Fog extends to 5m off the ground. Takes 2 emotes to cast in combat, taking effect on emote 2.

Tier 5: 10m range, 5m radius including user’s target location (10x10 area). Fog extends to 10m off the ground. Takes 2 emotes to cast in combat, taking effect on emote 2.

Example Emotes:

Tom points his right index finger towards a spot on the ground about three meters from himself, beginning to move his other hand about in the air in a seemingly random gesture.

Tom’s hand’s movements seemed to resemble that of a child’s drawing of a fluffy cloud, as purple fog began emitting from the point he had gestured towards, soon extending to a radius of five meters across and three meters high, blocking the sight of anyone within.

-Fog does not choke anyone nor does it have any effect other than blocking vision.

-Fog disperses if blown away by strong gusts of air.

-Fog disperses after 5 emotes of existing.

-Fog does not go into water or through walls, though it can go around corners within its radius.

[C/NC] Vanish [T3]

After a brief cast time, the user vanishes from sight. The user and their clothing and whatever they are holding or wearing become mostly or entirely invisible. Use emotes in combat and narrative seconds outside of it. Slotted Seers or other creatures capable of perceiving invisibility see the user. User has to focus while casting, moving 3m/turn max.

Tier 3: 3 emote (15 narrative seconds) cast time. User can be seen as a faint shimmer, but only whilst moving. Lasts 3 emotes (15 narrative seconds).

Tier 4: 3 emote (15 narrative seconds) cast time. User can be seen as a faint shimmer, but only whilst moving. Lasts 4 emotes (15 narrative seconds).

Tier 5: 3 emote (15 narrative seconds) cast time. User faintly shimmers whilst moving, but it is very difficult to detect unless specifically watching for it. Lasts 4 emotes (15 narrative seconds).

Example Emotes:

Jordan begins to gesture with his left hand in the air to create the outline of a man resembling himself, eyes faintly glowing as he cast his spell.

Jordan’s form slowly began to flicker as he began to fade from view–still visible, of course, but at the pace he was going, he would soon be near-invisible.

Finally, Jordan was difficult to spot, seemingly a mere shimmer in the air being the only sign of his presence. The shimmer began to move as Jordan ran towards the door of the building. His quickened breath was audible to anyone listening for it, the casting of the spell having tired him somewhat.

-User must emote faint shimmering when necessary.

-Sounds are still made by Vanished Children, and they can interact with the world as normal.

[NC] Mask of Cedli [T3]

Cedli’s children can don a mask in order to disguise themselves. This is unable to be used to cause serious harm or trouble, only for the sake of pranks or just because the user wishes to look like someone else. To create a Mask of Cedli, the user must have a mask on hand. They envision what they wish the mask to look like, then paint or otherwise color the mask to resemble such a thing, like a face. One Child of Cedli can only have a single mask at a time (save for T5 Children of Cedli, who can have two). Once the mask is put up to the user’s face, they transform over the course of 2 emotes to resemble the disguise they envisioned whilst crafting the mask. Other Children of Cedli can use another Child’s mask, but a non-Child finds the mask to be useless–just a normal mask to them.

Masks cannot be manufactured to resemble another person that the Child knows or has heard of, except in a special sort of ritual. A Child can have someone else paint the mask in that person’s likeness in order to effectively copy them. It is heavily frowned upon to trick a non-Child into doing this without knowing the consequences.

If the mask is ever broken in at least two pieces, it no longer works until put together again by a Child of Cedli.

The same rough physical build must be held by a Masked Child as they would when not Masked. Limbs or appendages cannot be added.

It requires one emote to don or doff the mask. Creating a mask requires focus, but using it does not.

Tier 3: The mask’s effect does not hold up to physical inspection. For example, if the mask causes the user to have horns or long hair, someone’s hand would pass right through. Touching the user’s face feels as if the mask itself is being touched rather than their face.

Tier 4: The mask’s effect now holds up to physical inspection.

Tier 5: Two masks can now be made. They can be swapped between at will, or given to other Children.

-Must be ST signed.

-Cannot be used by non-Children.

-If a mask breaks in two or more pieces, it is deemed broken and must be repaired before use again.

-If a new mask is made after one is made by the Child (or two, if the Child is T5), the previous mask loses all functionality and is simply a normal, non-magical mask.

[C] Dazzle [T3]

In times of danger, Cedli’s children can create a shower of sparks that can blind a target, so that they can escape from trouble if things get dicey. This shower of sparks appears in the same color as the Child’s eyes. Only one person or creature can be affected at a time–others see it as a shower of sparks akin to a sparkler on steroids. This needs no focus once it is cast.

Tier 3: 3 emote cast time, blinds for 1 emote

Tier 4: 3 emote cast time, blinds for 2 emotes

Tier 5: 2 emote cast time, blinds for 2 emotes

Example Emotes:

As the monster chased behind Veronica, the Daughter of Cedli suddenly turned, holding her ground as the monster was distracted by her brother. She pulled out her sketchbook and quickly got to work.

Veronica drew a quick sketch of a scene of her creating a shower of sparks from her hand. The scene seemed to come to life as she extended her hands, pale blue sparks pouring from her fingertips towards the eyes of the beast–if her attack found its mark, the beast would find itself blinded for 2 emotes.

-Target sees only a bright white light that fades at the end of emote 2.

-Target must emote as if blinded–do not metagame what is going on around you.

-Only should be used by Children when in a pinch. Remember, follow the code.

[NC/C] Mirror Image [T4]

When a Child is in trouble, they might wish to create a fake duplicate of themselves to confuse and distract. This is called a Mirror Image. The child, whilst focusing and moving at 3m/turn maximum, creates a duplicate of themselves that does not hold up to physical inspection. It moves and acts as the Child wills it. Taking a closer look and pausing to do so reveals the mirror image as fake.

Tier 4: MI moving at least 6 blocks from the Child makes it vanish. It can perform simple actions such as running away or jumping up and down. It makes noise and can speak. Physical contact causes it to vanish. Lasts up to 3 emotes. Takes 2 emotes to cast.

Tier 5: MI moving at least 15 blocks from the Child makes it vanish. It can perform complex actions that the Child could normally perform, like dancing. It makes noise and can speak. It is discernible as false upon physical contact, but persists in existing. Lasts up to 5 emotes. Takes 1 emote to cast.

Example Emotes:

As Tom was being chased by the town guard who he had accidentally upset, he sputtered and attempted to shout out an apology. Seeing that this wasn’t going to do much, he quickly used his charcoal pencil to draw the outline of a man on his palm. As he did so, a second Tom appeared as both veered off to either side. If the woman following him looked closely enough or touched the man on the left, it would be revealed to simply be an illusion, flickering.

-Mirror Image’s appearance matches the Child casting its appearance.

-Masked Children casting Mirror Image have their MI’s appearance based off what their mask looks like.

-Explain to anyone nearby what the mirror image is, what happens if it is interacted with, how it is discernible as fake, et cetera.

[NC] Cedli’s Blood [T4]

Cedli’s Blood is a nickname given to a concoction able to be brewed by an experienced Child of Cedli. There are three main ingredients necessary for creating Cedli’s Blood; DNA from the creator, DNA from the intended recipient, and Cedlani text (what it means is the choice of the creator) written on whatever vessel it is poured into. Aside from that, the only necessary ingredient is a liquid of some variety. Most Children opt for alcoholic beverages, but realistically this could be any liquid able to be poured into a cup and ingested. If anyone other than the creator’s intended recipient tries to drink the Blood, their body simply digests it as if it were a normal drink.

If the intended recipient drinks it, within the hour they will fall asleep, and later awaken (by being shaken awake or on their own) as a Child of Cedli, tier 1 with the signature unicolored eyes. The color of the eyes is up to the player of the character.

-Must be ST signed unless it is drank right after being created.

-After drinking Cedli’s Blood intended for them, a character’s player needs to make an MA before they learn any abilities.

-Unless Cedli’s Blood is made for the character by a Tier 4 or higher Child with a valid TA, it does not do anything special. This is useless if the character making it has no TA.

[NC] Spectacle [T5]

The absolute pinnacle of a Child’s illusory prowess, Spectacles are exclusively non-combative. They are a showing of one’s artistic talent, heart, and soul, creating illusions visible to anyone in the area. This could be duplicates of the Child, bright, flashy lights, or a spooky (fake) monster. Of course, these are all fake, and interaction with them reveals this. They can make sounds. The Child can appear to move whilst casting, but is actually staying in place the entire time, sometimes hidden behind a wall or pillar. The Child must be able to see their spectacle as they work, and creating the spectacle is enough to tire out the Child. Requires 5 emotes to prepare, can last for up to 13. Max radius of a Spectacle is 30x30m.

Example Emotes:

Anastasia set to work drawing the scene that she wished to recreate in the air in front of her with her extended hand. First, an arch, and then the altar, and the two men standing before it…

As the priest continued to speak, Anastasia continued waving her hand in the background as subtly as possible–well, as subtle as you can be, being onstage in front of a crowd of easily at least fifty people.

Those watching the woman in the background–quite hard to miss–would see her recreating a scene of showering sparks in pink glowing “ink” in the air. She grit her teeth as she worked, seeming to be tired by the casting of her spell.

Anastasia seemed to be hurrying a little as the priest wrapped up his speech, beginning to draw flower petals in the air surrounding the scene.

Finally, as her work was completed, Anastasia’s spell took effect. Sparks began to fly out of seemingly nowhere in an array of dazzling colors, as pink and purple flower petals began to fall from the sky in a ceaseless shower of color. Anastasia herself simply held her hands in the air, watching the spectacle as she looked just about ready to collapse.

-Attempting to seriously frighten an unwilling target may be grounds for breaking one’s Code.

-This is a very freeform spell, do not abuse it, follow the spirit of the rules.

-If any particles or other such effects would fall outside the range of the Spectacle’s radius, they either disappear or bounce off the edge of the radius–up to the user.

-Explain that this is an illusion to all nearby players.

-Spectacle cannot hurt or even affect anyone.

Disconnection

If a Child is deemed to not be attempting to follow the spirit of Cedli’s Code, they risk being disconnected from their abilities and returning to their normal Descendant (or otherwise) self. This works on a three-strike system. Strikes are handed out when a Child acts in such a way that would intentionally harm others (with exceptions for life-threatening situations or being forced to choose the lesser of two evils, for example). If a Child reaches three strikes, they are considered “disconnected” and lose the CA. Strikes are tracked by the player of the character, but if an ST sees fit, they can hand out strikes if a player is obviously not keeping track of strikes properly in an intentional way. Other players cannot give strikes. Disconnected characters can be “reconnected” by drinking Cedli’s Blood made for them by a Child, resuming at whatever Tier they were previously. If they are disconnected after this, they are forever unable to experience the effects of Cedli’s Blood and become a Child throughout the rest of their life.

-Strikes must be kept track of by the Child’s player.

-If three strikes are reached, the character instantly loses their abilities and returns to being a normal Descendant.

-Under no circumstances EVER can a twice-disconnected individual become a Child of Cedli.

Purpose

Children of Cedli are aimed to be a magical race of Descendants that are peaceful, yet mischievous, using illusions and the like to help or cheer up others, put on a show, or pull light-hearted pranks. I believe this is a niche that doesn’t really have much of a presence on LotC, one which I’d like to see more of. I wanted to explicitly touch upon their oath to not hurt anyone else; I feel like this helps cement them as playful illusionists rather than people who are actually out to hurt others. Hopefully they will be equally fun to play and interact with as they were to create.

For clarity’s sake, these creatures fall into Grouping C.

Miscellaneous Redlines

-The requirements to become a Child of Cedli are as follows:

Have eyes or a similar organ.

Be able to properly consume liquid.

Be able to follow the Code of Cedli without it conflicting with any other magic or CA requirements (such as Paladinism)

Not be a dark magic wielder (Cedli would not approve)

Other than these requirements, most anyone is able to become a Child of Cedli unless stated otherwise by their CA or MA’s lore.

-Children of Cedli must follow the spirit of Cedli’s Code or risk disconnection. Players must keep track of strikes themselves.

-Children of Cedli must RP out being tired/exhausted after casting one or more spells depending on tier. More intensive spells = more tiring.

-People who follow Cedli but are not Children of Cedli with an accepted CA cannot cast any abilities listed here.

Sounds very similar to an old CA that was shelved during loregames that was supposed to be rewritten. Pretty sure players have very bad memories of such a CA existing.

although I respect pretty much any player giving a shot at lore writing, personally I'm not too interested in seeing this on the server

from what i read it pretty much just falls down to "people who want to positively impact other characters through pranks, laughter, and magic shows."

my main point of criticism is that all of this can be largely accomplished by normal, mundane characters who don't possess these abilities. you don't need this magic to be able to pull pranks or host magic shows or tell jokes, as long as it can be explained in RP. even some of the currently accepted voidal magics would be good placeholders for the intent behind this CA

my advice to you would be to instead pursue this idea as a guild or family of sorts, as opposed to a CA race

honestly I'm a fan of it. I get why people are hesitant about a magic CA seeing as some of the stuff that's happened in the past but idk I have hope for this.

Seems moreso like a voidal magic if anything, as @ᴜɴᴡɪʟʟɪɴɢʟʏ said above. I feel like this fits more in the category of a feat or magic if anything, and a pointless one at that - just reiterating what unwillingly said, but it seems like pointless party tricks

which some people might like, I'm obviously fine with that - just no reason for it to be a CA or magic and for it to die out and nobody use it except for the three people who play deranged jester characters. yes, you know who you are

while cool in theory, i believe djinn fulfil the niche this CA attempts to achieve.

there also remains the izthukii shell-shock. i think you’d maybe have better luck pursuing something on a smaller scale as unwillingly suggested. but in any matter, i encourage you to write some more lore in the future.

This lore has been denied.

While interesting, this lore does very closely mirror Izkuuthi which is a piece we (The administration and story-team) are simply not interested in really ever seeing again. The descriptions are nice in parts and there is certainly a thematic, but ultimately management has come to decision that this likely would not land well in mag, simply on the foundation and concept alone. The embargo technically does cover this, but it's not quite for that reason this piece is being denied.

Thank you for your submission, apologies, take it easy.
