“The strongest force can be created with the unity of the people.”

- Daibhidh MacFhilib Sutharlainn

qTCRbzh.png

A guardsman enters the room in the morning, seeing Daibhidh lies down on the table. On the table, a glass of Whisky, a Redfist branded cigar and a pile of documents can be found. He would also be found holding a quill on his hand, and blood on the table. The guardsman would attempt to call him up. However, Daibhidh will not be waking up. The guardsman would then attempt to touch Daibhidh’s hand, it is ice cold. Daibhidh is tired, he is too tired to ever wake up once again. The guardsman would move Daibhidh back to the bed and run out from the keep and shouted:

“Tha an t-uisge ann an Dùn Barr. It is raining in Dunbar today.”

A very loud voice can be heard from the roof of the Dùnrath and can be heard all over the city. From the shores to the forests. At that moment, the buzzling city suddenly froze, the wheels from the carts stopped moving, even the birds on the trees stopped their choir session. Everyone knows that there is something off today in Dùnrath as the code phrase was able to be heard from every corner of the city. This code phrase specifically signifies, the Baron of Dùnrath, the Chieftain of Clan Sutherland, the Chieftain of Clan Barr and the Clan Chief of the United Clans of Barr and Suther. The Most Honourable, Daibhidh MacFhilib MacMhartainn Sutharlainn is dead.

Daibhidh, when he was young, he was living in Sutherland with his family and work in the distillery. He was working there as a typically and normal working class, until when he was 12, he left Sutherland and pursue his dream as a merchant, hoping that can improve the lives of his family. Unfortunately, when he was 14, the Great Northern Avalanche structed the Agnethe villages, especially Sutherland. His parents and most of the Clan Sutherland members were dead in that particular incident. Unlike his Barrach brothers and sisters, he chose to abandon his home, and rarely return. At that moment, he believed that his parents have died, which he was not wrong.

When he turned 14, he moved to Elysium, where he met the duke and gave him a chance to settle down there. In Elysium, he learnt the basics of business, and thus set up a business with his distanced sister. That is where the Sutherland Trading Company was founded. After that, he went on his adventure for his company. He has travelled to a lot of cities all around Morantìr (Nyrheim / Almaris) and set up businesses there. Talon’s Port, Norland, Elysium, Freeport, Haelun’or, Ando Alur, Haense, Sutica, Yong Ping…, his commercial empire grows and grows. He always has a saying, “What you get from the people, you must give them back.” Some of his goods were sold more expensive than other brands from other suppliers, but he ensures that his customers get the best service from him. Sutherland branded products were at one point everywhere, east from Haelun’or, West from Talon’s Port, South from Sutica, and North from Norland.

On year 42, he purchased a plot of newly claimed land from the Kingdom of Norland and attempted to build his core business venture in the new plot of land. However, he decided to form a settler colony instead, populated by mostly people out of Norland, and enjoy a easy and peaceful life in that plot of land. That place is Dùnrath, the Barony of Dùnrath, later the Jarldom of Dùnrath has had him put in almost every single coin from the Sutherland Corporation, and it is a popular immigration location of the continent ever since.

As of his romance life, it was very rough. He is a nice person, but not necessarily the type of man that most women love. He has had six tries in his romance life, and almost none of them were successful. He gave up on loving when he turned fifty and start to focus on work instead, as he has had something more important to work on Dùnrath. He had two kids for the entirety of his life, Dùghlas and Sìonag. They are his everything, especially due to the fact that both of his kids lost their mother. Furthermore, since Sutherland was gone after the Avalanche, then the Skanarris and Svarlings. both of his kids were not Sutherland born. However, they are Agnethe, no matter what. They are as proud of being Agnethe as their father. He is not essentially the best father to his children, but he tried.

Daibhidh is proud, he is proud even after his death. He thinks that he did the right thing for the people, not just the people of Dùnrath, but every single person he serves for the course of his life. He is giving, generous and proud of what he has did…

Spoiler

To all Rathonians,

This is your Jarl writing to you all, when this letter is being published, it is the end of my life journey and my ruling of the Jarldom.

We the Rathonians are always proud of ourselves, and we are proud in what we have been doing for everyone here in the city. Without all your kind help and encouragement, Dùnrath will never been what it is right now. We have had many challenges, and hurdles to overcome in the following years, decades, and centuries. But I always believe that, with our hearts of iron and steel, our strong will, and tight bonds between each other, Dùnrath will be better than ever. I hope you all support the new Jarl, also my son. Dùghlas has been working on his position as the Speaker for a very long time for now, and I am sure that he will be treating all his citizens fairly and unselfishly. From the day we build up Dùnrath, we are all the same, we are all equal.

“Dùnrath gu bràth! Rathanach gu bràth! (Dùnrath Forever! Long live the Rathonians!)”

Daibhidh had been a good father and mother, the only parent Sìonag NicDaibhidh Sutharlainn had ever known, and wonderful despite his shortcomings. As she wept by her father's deathbed with her brother, she slowly built up her iron guard.

Daibhidh had been the only one she'd yearned to please; she'd wanted to make her father proud of her accomplishments. And now that he was gone? How was she to search his praises?

She would still, somehow, honor the Sutharlainn name, and continue Daibhidh's legend.

It is with great sorrow that Ren receives word of his old friend's death, but he remembers fondly the days that the Sutharlainn clan lived in Yong Ping. He remembers the bonds the two had worked to forge between their peoples, and the friendship they had enjoyed through meeting their goals. A letter is penned to Daibhidh's family, reading as follows.

The following letter is delivered specifically to the Sutharlainn family, accompanied by a crate of plum wine and pu'er tea.

Dear Clan Sutharlainn,

It saddens us greatly to hear of Jarl Daibhidh Sutharlainn's passing. He was a great friend to Yong Ping, and shall be missed dearly. A friend to all, a friend to myself, he will be remembered well and honored in memory. A giving and kind man who did well not only by his own people but by ours as well. It was an honor to know such a man in his time.

Already Jarl Dùghlas Sutharlainn is known to be as great of character as his father, and we look forward to continued relations with Dùnrath.

Through winter months cold,

branches bare and fields barren,

we smile, knowing spring

Signed,

Tianrui Ren, Minister of Foreign Affairs and First Patriarch of the Jade State of Yong Ping

When the news was announced, Artyom found words difficult as he rarely had before. It was not so easy to articulate who Daibhidh had been to him. He’d taken Artyom in at a time when the Rosik had barely anything to his name. He’d had just enough to pay for a lodging and a few tax cycles. Daibhidh had always been a friend to him, ensuring that there was paying work available to him. Artyom had even served as an unofficial advisor to the Jarl at times. “I will of do all I can to help your family as I have tried to help you, my friend. Rest easy. You will niet be forgotten.”

Erica Aven sat peacefully, thinking of her child, and her late boyfriend. She had waited for this, for him to finally.. .well.. pass. She loved him, and her death was just a sad cry for help. Help from him, however... obviously she was dead and could not fix that now. She looked down from the seven skies, hearing his last words, and hoping to herself, he would come back to her. She would see his soul again, and they could rest at last.

Rebeka la Waevra sat in the seven skies, looking at Lomiei and noticing a glow in Dunrath. "Oh, our good friend, he is making his peace." She smiled to herself, "Rest my good friend, you have worked too hard." @Lomiei

Aoife would hear the news of her kin's passing quickly. After some time crying over the loss, she'd head to the forge to take her mind off things. Everything she smithed that day came out warped or cracked, as useless as she felt in those moments. She'd not move from her place at the forge until she was numb, even then only sleeping in the side building to the forge.

Malii'evarir hears the news through friends. While not as close to Daibh as some had been, she still felt a pit of sadness in her stomach. "Life's so short for the vallah" she'd hum, considering the mortality of some of her closest friends. She'd then pull out a sketchbook that was familiar to some, and begin designing a fitting tribute to a great man.

Lomiei Vinelli, who still even in death thinks lowly upon his made-up surname, looks down upon the realm of almaris with a warm smile. There in the 7 skies, sat he, and his [REDACTED] Rebeka La Waevra @ohbother1, a raising of his head signifies his show of appreciation for a dear friend of his, so too his open-armed greeting of his first ever employer, connection, and business partner.
"Welcome, my friend. Its been too long."

Sionnach hearing of the news from several different sources all at once sets down her paperwork and thinks back to that time she met the great duke all those years ago in that village.

"fear eile den t-seann cheann a tuath air falbh, tha fios aig duine gu robh e na anam mòr"

shaking her head as she spoke in the shared language, muttering a old prayer she shifts back to her paperwork. watching Almaris change before her.

News would reach the Fakhr Oasis, the passing of a dear friend. Marah al-Hattan would mourn the loss of Daibhidh, sending her condolences to Dunrath, and the Clan Sutherlainn. She would gather her family, whispering a quiet prayer together for her dear friend. She spent the following days remembering their beautiful conversations, times spent baking, and adventures with old friends.

As Chen Linli recieved the news, she would send her condolences to Dunrath, and her dear friend Sionag. While she didn't know Daibhidh well, she remembered how Sionag admired him. A letter would reach her dear friend, expressing her sympathy and condolences. Linli sat out the bottles Sionag had sold her when they were little on her desk to remember her dear friend.

As Takai Eiji would receive the post within Yong Ping, his hands would tremble as the letter fell towards the ground. He would instantly reach down to try to pick up the letter amongst the emptied bottles littering the ground. It would seem that he was not in a well state of mind, but rather a self-destructive and dangerous mind set. His attempt to retrieve the letter knocks some of the bottles to roll across the inn's wooden floors as some of the wine that was still within, spilled across the letter—drenching it. He only read that his friend has died and that it was a shame he didn't visit Yong Ping. The wine soaked the message into an unreadable pulp—the elf would stare upon the message for a long moment before climbing back into his chair in an unorganized heap clinging some of the bottles across the floor from the disappearance and perhaps death of his other friend. He would mutter something about Talons, Daibhidh, and Whiskey—a snippet of the past he would return to as his eyes close into a numb slumber—because reality and the bleak future before him was harder to face with the absence of his dearest friends. Perhaps, in his dreams, he can revisit the precious moments without having to accept the reality before him.
