zuziee 3205 Popular Post Share Posted January 8, 2022 A d’Arkents Withdrawal A N N O D O M I N I 1792 - 1854 A depiction of Lady Maisie in her 30’s It was a warm, near blazing evening at Sunholdt, the air stagnant and stifling. The setting sun had begun to turn the western walls of the manor a warm and subtle golden hue. Regardless, one couldn’t miss the distinctly foul scent emanating from the manor’s surroundings upon their approach, nor the hazy skies. Marring the beauty of the setting sun were plumes of black smoke, rising hauntingly into the air like corrupted spirits. The scene only grew more jarring, however, as the manor came fully into view. Around the gardens of Sunholdt burnt flames as vibrant as that evening’s skies. Flames of pink and orange had rendered much of the foliage to dry ash. The dual tones of flame were similar but different, belonging to their own makers yet equally destructive. Despite the eerie beauty of the twinning flames, front and center was a heap of unmistakable ash and bone. Remnants of charred rope lay nearby; jewelry and tiaras adorned the corpse like offerings to a king in his tomb. From the indistinguishable pile of charred flesh raised a singular feminine hand. Upon each finger sat a different ring, embedded deeply in the melting skin. The peaks of bejeweled tiaras rose above the monotone heap. The corpse was unmistakable. It was mid-afternoon and the sun was still high in the blistering sky when two female figures slowly approached the manor. The pair looked almost like mother and daughter, yet their features were starkly different. It was the first time either had been upon Orenian lands in a number of years, each estranged for their own reasons. Yet neither was in their right mind. Insanity and hunger sapped from their sense of reason, and it was evident that day. The two were at odds, and their voices rang out as they walked, tones matching in irritation. "So you’re just like him, then.” A parchment packet of white crystals was thrown to the ground, followed by a stomp of the heel from the flaxen-haired woman's boot, grinding them into the soil below. "Of course I followed in his footsteps. He was the only role model I ever had. You knew what our family was like better than anyone. Had your nose stuck in every single dealing within the courts and everyone knew it.” A more youthful voice rang out sharply, grey eyes narrowed upon the noxious fallen shards. "And yet I never expected you to be the one to lie to me. All those years treating you as my own and you continued to hide that miserable choice. Couldn’t live with it, could you?" Those furious blue eyes began to glow with a pink aura, rose-hued flames emanating from her palm. "You may as well have known. You fell for my lies as easily as the rest did. Little magic tricks and wittily written letters was all it took to fool the church, and no one even found the remains of that pushy Archbishop. Thought you’d be smarter.” The remark was made with a scoff, the figure of its source emanating with embers and heat. "I suppose I never thought you’d be horrible enough to follow after your father, of all people.” There was a moment of irate silence. And then all erupted in smoke and flame. Within moments, the lands of Sunholdt were set ablaze as each sought for the other’s destruction. Pink flames fought for control over orange as scenes and visions were warped chaotically into the high walls of heat. Fire bent to each woman’s will as they fought until neither could be told apart from the other. Feminine screams of fury and agony tore through the countryside as the peaceful fields of the manor were scorched and burned. Thick, dark smoke made it nearly impossible to see nor breathe as the flames warred and rampaged. And yet as the flames finally began to flicker and wither, only one corpse blended in among the wasteland. The skies began to clear, and the ashen body heaped at the front step of the manor became visible - the manor’s entrance, its final resting place. Before it, a small, shrouded form remained for some time, with shaking parchment in hand before it was abruptly staked into the gravel beside the disintegrated body. Upon the page was a messily written note in ashen ink, a hairpin holding it to the earth. And then the figure departed. The note would read… "The extent to which Orenian idiocy reaches amazes me once again. So much greed for so little substance. Your emperors may be weak enough to be toppled by their own scheming kin, but your citizens remain strong in their dreary sameness. Ever shallow and preening with nothing of honesty. If anything I did the old woman a favor and finally freed her from your dull lives of teacups and courtrooms. But I’ll afford you one thing, so remember this: Life goes on, but so does death.” Spoiler OOC: The note would be posted publicly and the scene is able to be viewed and investigated but the actions leading up to it aren’t known! Maisie d’Arkent was one of the best characters I’ve played on LOTC in a long time. I loved every minute of her character arc and all the people she was influenced by, and in turn, influenced. Though her time has finally come and her story is over. @UnBaed @bickando @ncarr@shay @Mady @MunaZaldrizoti @Kholibrii @Alexi_ @VeganWalmart @clonky And here is all the cool art I was gifted or bought! PrincessSnowie 539 Share Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) Amongst the hustle and bustle of the Beauty Tycoon's life. Vespira suddenly felt as though hit by a carriage, her infinitely turning wheel of work now stopped. She slouched into her chair after reading the news. Her face formed a frown, unlike the one that can send shivers down one's spine, one of depression, defeat. As she became lost in thought. Ves recalled being a young girl, in the Duke of Sunholdt Palace chambers in the Novellen. A little blonde girl dressed fully in pink, her bright, sweet smile looking up to the chestnut haired girl, a look of awe on her features, as the Duke's daughter knelt down to her level. Removing her Golden rose hairpin from her locks, letting them tumble as the adolescent stroked her cheek before fastening it to the little girls hair. "Oh so pretty..." The old woman said with a sigh, as she began to cry for the first time since her fathers death. The 'baby' girl she loved to dote on, now truly gone... MikoMonster 1393 Share Posted January 8, 2022 A cloaked figure returned to her keep in the north that evening, chuckling to herself as she strode through the gates. She greeted her children cheerily as she entered, her clothing reeking of smoke and smudged with ash. The woman ascended the stairs to tell her husband the entire tale. “Just wait and see how the Orenian rats will scamper.” She cooed to him as she pushed her way into her room.
AnimeWolf0080 1493 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Victoria just sighed once more dressed in black. Mourning the loss of her last child, the years passed by. So many years. How she will miss her little princess. Holding her in her arms when she was just a child. How she wished she could have been in her life more. No matter.... She would see her again soon enough.
Mannyy 934 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Edward Novellen-Aldersberg looked upon the silver cigarette case he had been gifted by Maisie, a lewd woman depicted on the metal lid. He sat in silence, withdrawing a cigarette from the contained and putting it to his lips, slowly lighting the stick and taking a small puff. Wilhelm d'Arkent hears of the news "Ohh noooo...." He hardly feigned a sad tone, nodding once and moving on.
TheHeftyDonut 426 Share Posted January 8, 2022 One Dowager-Duchess of Vidaus, Caroline Ruthern-de Selm sat within rooms of the duchy now, before a maid would knock upon the door. "Come in." The elderly Ruthern said now, the maid walked in slowly now placing a letter to the hands of Caroline now. "Spasiba dear, leave me now please." The woman said as she watched her maid leave and close the door, once she was gone the dowager went to open the letter, her eyes scanning over the text. "Maisie- Can't be. Dead? Before me? They're all gone." The elderly woman's eyes filled with tears now as she sat within her chair. "Rest well- Sister."

MunaZaldrizoti 5623 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Charlotte Augusta, from her newfound dwelling, received the news of her childhood friend's demise in stony silence. A flurry of memories flooded her mind, of innocent days spent at the estate of Sunholdt and within the confines of the Augustine. Of their debut together and the many words of confidence that had passed between them. "Someday soon, my dear Maisie...I will get us our Oren back. I hope you'll be watching over us, to see that day to fruition." She spoke solemnly to herself, brooding over yet another death that would leave a long-term scar on her heart and soul.
Taketheshot 3834 Share Posted January 8, 2022 Joseph d'Azor let out a long sigh as he read the missive among the clanging of noise of siegework defenses being constructed at Southbridge. "Maisie..." The man frowned lightly as he tucked the missive away. "You were one of the good ones, one of the good ones indeed..." He spoke thinking back towards better times.
Herod 802 Share Posted January 8, 2022 "Heartless and cold." Is all Joseph could utter to Moliana at the news of his great aunt's demise unknowingly by somebody he held close in his childhood. Livid memories of abuse and stern gazes by the elder d'Arkent flooded his mind with stress, perhaps he would've turned out to be like Maisie if he had given up on this world, just as she did to pursue the void. "Rest, maybe it is the only thing you'll enjoy in this world."
TwistedFries 426 Share Posted January 8, 2022 The Kestrel learned of his old friend's terrible demise as he froze in place. His head turning slightly as he looked off into the distance, a mournful expression upon his face. "Another friend from my past has fallen. I believe only a few more until I have outlived nearly everyone. How sad..."
