Issued this 12th of the Grand Harvest

To the People of Norland,

With the intent of clarifying the purposes, functions, and abilities of a Clan, we in the King’s Council seek to issue this missive, redefining the Clans of Norland as well as asserting many of the old definitions.

  • A Clan is a Royally recognized family or political unit that has contributed greatly to the Kingdom of Norland.

  • A Clan must have at least Five (5) active members who each actively contribute to the wellbeing of Norland. This can be achieved via the following though are not required:
                                    -  Consistent involvement in the Ashguard.
                                - Consistent participation in the Capital or one of its Vassal-States and any events it may partake in.
                                - Consistent political involvement (attending Clansmoots, advocating for Events, etc)

  • A Clan must reside within Norland and/or one of the subsidiary Vassal-States.

  • A non-recognized Family/political entity may formally request to be considered for recognized Clanhood.

  • Once Royally recognized, a Clan will be written into the Book of Clans.

  • A Clan shall not be struck from the Book of Clans unless the following occurs:
                               - An act of Treason is committed by the majority of the Clan’s members.
                               - The Clan leaves Norland for an extended period of time/permanently.
                               - The Clan is rendered extinct.

  • Clans have the right to establish a singular leader titled the Chieftain/Chieftess.

  • Clans are given the privilege to be considered for land grants outside of the Capital.

  • Clans have the right to call a Clansmoot at any time, where they may petition the King and his Council. Should members of a Clan be dissatisfied with their current Chieftain, they may call an internal Chiefsmoot to select a new Chieftain by majority vote of the Clan.

  • Clan Members do not need to be born into a Clan in order to join one.

  • Clans may not field their own Bannermen unless a landed member of Norland’s Baronage.

  • Clan/Vassal levies are seconded to the Ashguard, and are expected to consult the Marshal, Overseers, or local Wardens before committing to military operations.

  • Succession of a Clan’s Chieftainship may be decided by the Clan itself, either by direct hereditary succession or Chiefsmoot.

  • Smaller Clans may band together in order to petition the King’s Council.

  • Clans are afforded the right to feud with one another, so long as said feuds remain bloodless.
                             - The Crown of Norland shall have the right to intervene in Clan feuds should they be designated as out of control.
                             - Clans may not feud any of the three major Rurikkid Clans (Edvardsson, Eiriksson, Freysson) but may feud their cadet branches (Rosik, etc).
                             - The three major Rurikkid Clans may not feud each other.
                             - Clan feuds must be announced publicly
                             - Multiple Clans cannot band together to declare a feud on a singular Clan

  • Clans are afforded the right to organize a Clan Brawl, which shall be a non-lethal fight between opposing Clans should they wish to solve their feud through violence.

                             - Clan Members may not kill opposing Clan Members under penalty of a Murder charge.
                             - Only Clan Members may partake in a Clan Brawl, therefore Vassal Levies may not partake in the fighting nor any non-clan members.
