[T2] Mason’s Malleable [Open]

Background

Developed by Lector Trevor Turnfield for the Lectorate Science Faire in an effort to improve the lives of artisans and tradesmen alike after the suggestion came up in conversation with Lector Mathurin and BAR-L, the Lectorate’s labor automaton.

Recipe
Base: Aqua Vitae

  • Water | Grace x 1
  • Water | Lethargy x2
  • Mundane | Strength x3

Creation
The concoction must be both made and kept at a tepid temperature (no greater than 79* F) or else it will lose Its potency, water symbols must be added first and earth symbols must be added last.

Effects
This murky blue liquid has the rather unique property that any stone (barring ST-signed materials/ores) or gemstone can be completely submerged in and soaked within a vat of this material over the course of a narrative day, when removed from the liquid they will be malleable as artist’s clay, capable of being sculpted and shaped into pottery, statues, jewelry, bricks, et cetera with relative ease. After being given six narrative hours in a non-humid place to dry the material will lose its prior malleability and return to Its natural rigid state. Gemstones can also be fused together to create larger versions of the gemstone or combine them into multi-colored gemstones, mundane ores such as gold and iron can also be utilized by Mason's Malleable.

Redlines:

  1. This cannot be used to topple or weaken stone defenses, walls, or structures. The entirety of the stone must be submerged into the fluid so you cannot just apply it liberally upon a structure to weaken it.

  2. Though gemstones can be combined they cannot be fit into regular stone interiors, merely added as surface décor; this is to prevent people claiming they have diamond-rod reinforced walls incapable of being broken down by any means.

  3.  Bars of gemstones such as diamonds will shatter with force comparable to that which it takes to break open steel; rendering diamond/gemstone bars mechanically representable by Iron bars and follow the same OOC rules and regulations as regular iron gates/bars.

  4. One brew of this lasts for twenty-four OOC hours, enabling projects involving gemstone work to be done over the course of one narrative month before the liquid within would need to be replaced; losing potency after 1 human-sized object or 2 halfing-sized objects, or 4 bust-sized objects, or 8 statuette sized objects is created with it.

  5. This is not meant to replace transfiguration’s ability to mold and shape objects, it only works on stone and is specifically meant for sculptures, bricks, statues, jewelry and so forth to be made with greater ease.

[T1] Paco Powder [Open]

Background

A powder developed for the Lectorate Science Faire by Lector Trevor Turnfield, the purpose of which was to aid seaside communities establishing agriculture through the treatment of sea and brackish water for livestock and crops, as well as sailors on long trips in need of fresh water.

Recipe
Base: N/A

  • Water | Separation x2
  • Mundane | Purity X1
  • Air | Clarity x1
  • Mundane | Reduction x1

Creation
Grind all symbols together in any order within a mortar and pestle until it forms a coarse gray powder.

Effects
When one measure of this powder (about a handful) is applied to a barrelful of either brackish or saltwater the salt within separates from the brine and condenses into clean crystals of salt, clumping together into a plum sized hunk over the course of thirty narrative minutes releasing  a small amount of clear heatless steam.

Alternatively two measures (two doses) of this powder can be applied to a fishing net or similar mesh with any manner of adhesive and spread across a canal or sea-water opening to draw the salt out of the water passing through it as a filter, gradually building up a sedimentary layer over the course of two (Irl) weeks at which point it will cease to function and need to be replaced with a new net.

Redlines:

  1. The process of desalting water is not instantaneous, if one was to fall into a vat of saltwater with their pockets stuffed with Sailor’s Special it would not instantly counteract the salt.

  2. Without being applied to a net larger bodies of water than a barrel’s worth cannot be purified, the powder will instead disperse and just a few small crystals will form, leaving the water still salted.

  3. Desalinating a larger body of water would require creating a net the length of the body of water to troll over the surface of the body of water several times over the course of one IRL week. Therefore the most one could purify would be a lake, desalting the ocean is simply impossible because of this.

  4. Should the net separating the salt from the water be destroyed or not replaced once used up the salt water flow would return, likely endangering any fresh-water dependent life therein as the body of water is salted again over the course of three irl days.

  5. Due to both the transparency and heatless nature of the steam released it cannot be used to make concealing smokescreens or choking clouds, though it does make a spooky fog effect that’s great for party tricks, hallow’s end themed celebrations, et cetera.

  6. One dose of Paco Powder is worth a net sized 7x7 in size, larger nets require more dosages measured in 7x7 squares.

7/26/2022 - Tidied up some wording in the redlines to make it more comprehensive and gave Mason's Malleable the ability to manipulate carbarum to add a mundane method of sharpening the material.

8/31/2022 - Fixed a typo in the redlines of stockshock that said 'nor is it incapable of disabling someone' when it should have said 'nor is it capable of disabling someone'.

9/7/2022 - Clarified size of net effected by one dose of Sailor's Special, removed the ability to manipulate carbarum and ST signed materials, specified the number/size of objects capable of being manipulated by a dose of Mason's Malleable before expiry, reduced the emote count that a continuous exposure to stockshock remains effective from 4 to 2.

Nobody had the heart to do Lector Alchemy Pack III, so ((new))-alchemist Trevor stepped up. +1 I'm completely biased.

I'm def not biased cause a lector taught me and I like the lector packs

Desalination is genuinely a real cool idea.

I'm also stealing the lector format for alchemy additions I make

This Lore has been accepted. Moved to Implemented Lore, it will be sorted to it's appropriate category soon. Please note that if this is playable lore, such as a magic or CA, you will need to write a guide for this piece. You will be contacted regarding the guide (or implementation if it isn’t needed) shortly.
