IN LEUVENEM

BEING, BY NATURE OF ITS NAME AND ITS WRITING, AN ACCOUNT OF THE HISTORY, CULTURE, AND TRADITIONS OF THE ANCIENT DE LEUVEN FAMILY, NOW REVIVED IN THE DUAL KINGDOMS OF HANSETI-RUSKA.

-==-

The prestigious family of Ashford de Falstaff has been around since the age of de Bar, born from the son of Ser Baldwin ‘the Black’ who sought only to revel in his own long-lasting legacy. Wrought from the sins of their fathers, the kin of this foretold ancestor allied themselves with the domains of Orenia, Savoy, and Haense. However, due to negligence from our parentage, it is evident through tellings of history we do not adhere to the same outdated ideals as our forefathers. It is with great consideration that we, House de Leuven, deem it proper to officially split ourselves from our newfound sibling lineage. THE SINS OF OUR FATHERS ARE NOT OURS.

HL Conrad Armande de Falstaff, Baron of Guise, c. 420-423 E.S.

THE HOUSE DE LEUVEN

House de Leuven originated from the combination of two different lines of Ashford de Falstaff, being from Savoy and Oren, which eventually merged into one within the domain of Hanseti-Ruska. They joined under the efforts of Lady Priscilla Amelia and Lady Emelie Ada, forming themselves into a new household entity under the decision of the elder Matriarch. With time the family fully integrated into the Kingdom of Crows, taking on a newfound culture of their own from influences of their region and bloodline. Promptly led by the latter Lady once the death of the Founder, Priscilla Amelia, had occurred.

IN SAVOY

Spoiler

Within the years prior to the regency of Vasileia Ekaterini the arrival of the Ashford de Falstaff came into fruition. With an urge to settle after the sudden meltdown and disappearance of Margarita Baldwin - the youngest of three sisters - the middle child Evanna Ana sought to adopt a lifestyle akin to her father in his youth. One full of wealth, partying, luxuries and considerable comfort. Due to the given request and assumed role of Matriarchy, Priscilla Amelia reached out to the domain of Savoy and with assistance of Stefaniya var Ruthern settled into the citadel of San Luciano. It was there that the sisters got to work with establishing their familial names; Evanna worked within the affairs of court meanwhile Priscilla inherited the family merchant business. The majority of the wealth obtained by the sisters was old money, inherited from their grandmother Emerentia Kovachev and her family. However, such income was maintained through the labor of their father Daniel II Ashford de Falstaff, who established a merchants' band by the name of ‘Lumbering Bears.’ As Savoy went through turmoil with the Basridi regency, the death of Lucien I, and the dissolvement of the Kingdom, the sisters found themselves astray once more. Soon Priscilla’s sister Evanna married Christian Montelliano and moved to the coastlines of Aeldin. It was only during the fall of the Orenia Kingdom and rumored abandonment of Conrad Armande’s daughters that the lone Ashford left her sister behind in Aeldin to venture to the Kingdom of Haense. It was there the woman proclaimed herself as the rightful Matriarch of Falstaff once more, guiding the collective of youth alongside her own husband and children.

IN ORENIA

Spoiler

Conrad Armande was a descendant from the cousin branch of Priscilla Amelia, born directly from Armande ages before. As Frederick I took reign as the King of Orenia, having dissolved the Empire after defeating his brother, he sought someone to assist him. Said individual was the self-proclaimed Patriarch and Baron of Guise himself. For fifteen years the Ashford served as the last Arch-Chancellor of Oren, helping with leading the nation through gruesome reformations and a brief golden era. When the farmers within Acre took arms against the monarchy, Conrad stood as a loyalist to the Crown; while three of his daughters took refuge in Haense, only the eldest remained at home. She who remained held the namesake of Mathilde II, having married His Royal Highness Frederick II, the to-be heir of Oren. With the divorce from both his wives and misery of his children, rumors arose nearer the end of the War that Conrad dabbled in infidelity, as well as the physical abuse of his kin, often striking them. It was from this gossip did the Patriarch gain his reputation for cruelty. Upon the fall of the Kingdom of Orenia and its ensuing dissolvement, the Patriarch himself vanished with his eldest daughter from the realm of Almaris, leaving behind his three daughters and bastards in Hanseti-Ruska. Both were rumored to have been executed by the new Harvest Confederacy for their loyalty to the Orenian Crown, but no actual evidence of this execution has been found.

IN HANSETI-RUSKA

Spoiler

As the Orenia-Acre war lingered on the horizon, the two youngest daughters of Conrad Armade sought refuge in the Kingdom of Haense. Twins Manon Yvaine and Ophelie Eleanore moved from their home in the Barony of Guise to the citadel of Karosgrad as young children, placing themselves as wards within the Queen Council under the Queen-Consort, Her Royal Majesty Amadea of Susa. Only a few years more into the given conflict, the eldest sister Emelie Ada followed her two siblings to Haense, moving into the ward apartments as well. This came as an ironic repeat of history considering that Emil-Dardot–a distant great Uncle to the girls–had also taken refuge in Haense. This came as a surprise to many, considering their father Conrad Armande’s position as Arch-Chancellor and his devout loyalty to the Orenian Crown. The three sisters, however, fully devoted themselves to the Kingdom of Crows once both their former home had collapsed and father vanished without a word.

After eight years of the sisters' fealty to Haense, Priscilla Amelia arrived at the citadel of Karosgrad after hearing that distant relatives resided there. In tow she brought her husband Daniel John and three daughters as well as her only son. Instantly as she stepped foot onto that chilled soil she declared herself as the rightful Matriarch of Ashford de Falstaff, and due to their youth the three sisters agreed; on the simple terms that Emelie Ada would become heir after Priscilla’s passing. As the girls aged and Priscilla Amelia became sickly, the adoption of the name de Leuven took place, and thanks to connections with Alstion the family were able to reclaim the keep Guise for themselves.

III

HEIRLOOMS

TIARA OF LEUVEN

Spoiler

This dazzling circlet made of golden ore, pounded into a simple rounded contour. On the face of the circlet was a mesh of aureate wire formed to appear as if leaves. They coiled about the base of the tiara until meeting the face in a pointed trio of upright prongs, each ended with an opal sphere. This renowned piece of history was one of the many headpieces commissioned for Lucille Antoinette Ashford de Falstaff, seeing as many anticipated her tenure as Queen-Consort to Alexander II. This regalia was said to have come from House Vladov as a gift to their distant relative, acquired sometime during their ancestral lineage Karovic, when they held the Duchy of Raev.

CHAPLET OF CURONIA

Spoiler

A stunning piece forged from an assortment of metallic rings formed to create a beautiful chainmail chaplet. The interlocked ringlets come together in a cascading cape of the meshed silver, forming a grandiose and mystical display of attire. There is a solid band forged of the same material binding the piece more firmly to the wearer's head, complimented by the various small hanging swiss blue colored spinel gemstones: being around fifty of them. It is unknown where this exact piece came from but it was added to the collection of the Household via their Kovachev lineage, obtained by the wife of the old Duke of Sunholdt, Evie Devereux. It is assumed to have once belonged to the famed Courlandic royal household, House Staunton. This is further supported by the small house motto, “With Knowledge Comes Power” etched on the inner facade of the headpiece’s band.

HALCOURT GEMSTONES

Spoiler

A collection of colorful gemstones kept within a small polished box of oak wood, bound by aureate hinges and clasp. Within the container itself lay four sapphires from Felsen, two emeralds from Aesterwald, three diamonds from Holm, and one alexandrite from the Westerlands. Each piece took rest in an embedded notch sewn into a cushion of velvet, violet in hue. This relic once belonged to Sabrina Halcourt, and then her daughter Emerentia Kovachev, passed down to her only son Daniel.

DANIEL’S RING

Spoiler

A simple aureate band originally crafted in Providence during the reign of Anne I. This specific band belonged to Daniel Ashford de Falstaff, the husband of Emerentia Kovachev. Upon being unjustly slaughtered the said wife collected the piece and gave it to her only son Daniel Baldwin, who gifted it to his consort, Andrea. The top surface of the ring held onto a simple ruby shaped in a standard round cut, held in place by aureate prongs. A traditional piece typically passed down to the consorts of the reigning Matriarch or Patriarch during their reign.

BAISER DE LA MORT

Spoiler

Perhaps the deadliest relic of the collection, being a slick ferrum dagger forged from Savoyard steel and gold. The piece was made from the durable steel, gripped onto by a wooden hilt bound by fine leather that was waxed down to a sturdy finish. The pommel is shaped into the contour of a miniature bear, made purely of solid gold. The weapon in question was exactly twelve inches and tucked away into a sheathe embroidered with the initials; P.A. A prize possession of the Founder for House de Leuven, Priscilla Amelia.

SISTERS OF LEUVEN

Spoiler

A typical band made entirely of silver, pounded into a smooth surface with a slightly raised and flat facade. Upon the smoother surface of this ring was a trio of gemstones, grappled by prongs of the same mineral of the base. Below each octagon-cut gemstone was an initial, represented by a different gem per letter. In order from left to right; ‘E’ with sapphire, ‘O’ with aquamarine, and ‘M’ with moonstone. This piece was a gift from Priscilla Amelia for the future leaders of de Leuven, representing the first primary group of sisters who were the core of de Leuven; Emelie, Ophelie, and Manon. A tradition for each Matriarch or Patriarch to don during their reign.

Tabitha silently swept the floor in the vacant room with an uncomfortable poise, digits gripping tightly onto that broom as they additionally remained paired with her beloved cross. The maid had been sent by her employer the Matriarch de Leuven to clean out the emptied room of the deceased Priscilla Amelia, hoping to clear it up now that the period of mourning had passed. Nothing remained of the woman but ushers from her peers had convinced her that the vile woman certainly wouldn't reach the seven skies, and surely haunted the estate. As Tabitha muttered a frenzy of prayers, she came across the desk with a pale visage at the items seen. With a shriek and cry she scurried from the room.

Nothing abnormal, merely her beloved dagger; Baiser de la Mort. Laid upon her copy of the House de Leuven missive - her final work.

"Lucien I haven’t died yet and Savoy was a principality at the time." Sebasten Ashford de Savoie spoke with a chuckle, having read on the history of Savoy and having met his father, many years after the fall of Savoy. He tapped his foot, wondering how such a self-proclaimed great house, one that was, as claimed, very wealthy in Savoy, got their own history wrong.

Aleran, the elder to his sibling Enselt (making him the better one, clearly) by a few moments, could not read the big words in this lengthy missive. Simply smiling at the parts detailing himself and his brothers. "AHA! I AM OLDER!" The boy claimed aloud and toward no one in particular, yet his voice was wrought with triumph.

Somewhere in hell Priscilla Amelia recalls how House de Savoie welcomed her. Offering her both nobility and placing her familial colors within their grand fighting grounds. The Prince de Savoie claiming that her bloodline was in-fact powerful and prominent.
