Symposia Pragma: The Season of the Southern Heart

To the devout subjects of the Kingdom of Balian, a revitalized age of prosperity is upon Balian, and we as a culture are mandated to flourish for centuries to come through our exemplary adolescence. It is imperative that we, as a society, present the young people of the Kingdom who have the potential to become future leaders with high expectations because the future of Balian is upon us. In addition, it is the responsibility of the young, eligible nobility of the Palati Monterosa Court and those who are the same as them to ensure that the tradition of the ceremonious coming of age is maintained. Publicizing the Symposia Pragma, which includes reforms enclosing high society, merrymakings to adequately mark the transition into the tribulations of maturity, and advancements to facilitate the prosperity of love, is being done with an extraordinary amount of satisfaction. 

 

Symposia Pragma

 

The Symposia Pragma is a collection of formal events that take place at least once every eight to ten years. These events are held in the interest of illuminating the illustrious noble houses of the kingdom, as well as everything that is included in such a high society. Although these events are subject to change from each tempore, there is a selection of events that are marked as traditions to the event itself that are to occur each time. The Presentation of the Debutantes and Bachelors is the most important of these events, which highlights the achievements of individual houses and brings young women and men from the Kingdom of Balian into the realm of high society. Such is to be assembled at the behest of HRH Princess Augustina or HRH The Princess Royal Elena, with consideration to the time frame as stated prior.

 

Debuting 

 

An event of this nature gathers the young lords and ladies of the Kingdom to make their debuts according to predetermined timetables, just like the event that came before it, which was that of Syndesi Feare. To be eligible for participation, debutantes and debutants must be between the ages of eighteen and twenty-eight. However, women and men of younger or older ages are welcome to participate in the events of Symposia Pragma nonetheless (disregarding that of presenting oneself). 

 

Make note that the purpose of the tempore is to make debutantes and bachelors wear clothing of these colors, depending upon their station. Royals are to adorn themselves in purple, while those of  Princely titles shall wear blue. Members of ducal and comital families should wear red and gold, while their viscomital and baronial counterparts shall represent themselves with Green and Silver. Any commoners taking part shall present themselves in Orange. Any debutante or bachelor shall be free to put on white if they do not feel comfortable wearing the colors of their station. It is sufficient for the article of clothing to have the assigned color in a conspicuous location rather than having it cover the entirety of the item (sash, trim, sleeves, etc.) Armor and uniforms are not permitted in any way, and the attire must be appropriate for a court setting both in terms of etiquette and finery. 

 

No debutante or bachelor is permitted to speak during the presentation unless specifically requested to do so by the individual to whom they are presenting themselves. Debutantes and bachelors will approach with their immediate family members. When one approaches the dais in front of which they are expected to halt themselves, it is customary for them to perform a curtsy or bow that has been well-rehearsed and shows a high level of sophistication. 

 

Upon presenting themselves, those debutantes and bachelors who the Governess and Princess Royal believe to be exemplary members of society shall be granted a Laurel Wreath. This wreath represents the best of Balian’s young and those who will lead us in the future. From all those presented with Laurel Wreaths, one debutante and bachelor will be selected and named the Swan and Osprey of the Season, respectively.

 

Etiquette 

 

The expected etiquette of the formal events of Symposia Pragma is greater than that of traditional mannerisms of the Monterosa Court. As such, the Governess’s council and Royal entourage shall watch over the young Bachelors and Debutantes with a scrutinous eye at all times. Due to the varied familial traditions and purposes of events hosted by the nobility, Peers hold the executive power to enforce any level of decorum they wish at events hosted by their house. All guests, not simply the debutantes and bachelors would be expected to follow protocol set forth by the hosting Peer.

 

While in attendance at courtly events of Symposia Pragma, all debutantes, and bachelors are expected to maintain an appropriate level of dress. One should always work to ensure their appearance fits their station, never presenting themselves beyond their means nor failing to uphold the standards placed upon the Nobility of the Kingdom. For a common woman would never adorn herself with a tiara, nor should a bachelor attend in a military uniform. Similarly, a woman of nobility would surely be reprimanded if she adorned herself in common cloth.

 

Though all are expected to maintain proper addressment and introductions when speaking to members of the Royal family or Governess’s council, the appearance of informal greetings between acquaintances would not be frowned upon due to the understood informality within the Kingdom in comparison to the Imperial Courts of ole.

Fortunately, his formal attire for the program was already tailored and delivered to him. However, the Baron decided to pay a visit to a certain friend and artist for something else to bring for this occasion.
