Two Minitzian tribesmen on a journey up the mountains.

Freedom, a principle so rooted within the Reinmaren individual, a song so liberating as to change one’s life in the blink of an eye. Many a Waldenian have given the ultimate price in the sacred pursuit of liberty. Since the ancient times when the clans and tribes of Reinmar were first founded, these Waldenian people have always pursued freedom in a longing journey to achieve it, be it as individuals, or as a common people.

For this end, the Reinmaren host, under the leadership of Lord Leon and Duke Dietrich arrived from the Duchy of Reinmar to the Heartlands, seizing the abandoned village of Old Rivia. Thusly, Lord Leon had placed his standard on empty plains next to Rivia, of which Minitz stands on now, proclaiming;

"And this standard here, is my inheritance onto you, Reinmaren people. And until I raise this inheritance from this earth bosom of the earth, you, the sons of Reinmar shall remain here, and all our Reinmaric kinsmen shall unite under this standard."

And, it would happen as he had proclaimed. From the forests of Waldenia, and the old ancestral lands of Reinmar, hordes of tribesmen would begin pouring into the lands of Minitz.

As Lord Leon uttered this breath, the Duchy of Minitz was founded, to embrace these Reinmaren ideals and beyond that, to spread the territories of the Reinmaren peoples, so that anyone amongst them might find a home there.

CULTURE

The subjects and peoples of Minitz distinguish themselves from the rest of the United Kingdom not only for being Reinmaren in name, but also through embracing the Reinmaren culture. The Minitzers have found value in sticking to their roots, to embracing their Old Reinmaren ancestors, who, although were tribesmen and barbarians, had their own merits in the way of life to pick from.

This cultural embrace, however, is established  in harmony with the socio-cultural climate of the current era. Decentralization of both militia and authority within the realm, clothing, practices and rituals, architecture, and warbands are just some of the elements adopted from the Proto-Reinmaren culture. Meanwhile aspects like religion, laws of succession, and courtly attire of the nobility remain mostly unchanged from the current standards, ensuring the existence of a people rich in unique customs, yet able to coexist in harmony with the rest of the Kingdom.

Amongst the most unique features of the Reinmaren culture is the “Ritual of Blood”, through which non-Reinmaren newcomers and residents of Minitz might officially become Reinmaren, adopting the culture and being considered a Reinmaren by the populace of Minitz. Upon such, the new Reinmaren tribesman enjoys many more privileges, and may begin a life of true purpose and work for their Fatherland. The Ritual is taken only after the newcomer, or Burgher (see “THE MINITZIAN SOCIETY” below), undergoes the Trials of the Stallion, a set of tests which both teaches them the core values of the Reinmaren and tests their spirit if it is worthy.

COLLECTIVE EGALITARIANISM - The Minitzian idealism teaches and enshrines ideas of industriousness and hard work on behalf of one's community. It is believed that all men, as long as they contribute to the collective, are equal limbs of the whole body, no matter their social status. All such men are free to do as they please and coexist with their fellows. As a result, the Reinmaren people of Minitz have a long history of holding assemblies of the land's people, debating politics, law, finance in order to strike a balance of power between the various social classes that inhabit the Duchy. As a result, many of the institutions of Minitz and offices that these institutions occupy are elective in nature, wherein every man has an input on how their society is run by their leaders.

TRIBAL UNITY - The Minitzian culture emphasizes the familial and communal bonds its people share, pushing them to remember their shared heritage. As a result of this, the Duchy maintains multiple Reinmaren families with their own chieftains, who answer to the High Chief. These tribes are entitled to sit in a Tribal Moot to decide matters of governance.

THE DIARCHY - The men of Minitz stand in the middle of two worlds; the feudal, and the tribal. It is imperative that both of these worlds of Minitzer society are represented in the overall Duchy. Thus, the men of Minitz grant feudal authority to their Duke, yet authority over tribal matters to their High Chief. Both of these offices rule Minitz together, held in harmony by the Duke himself.

REINMAREN PASTORALISTS - The Minitzers are at home in wide and open terrain, where they herd large groups of animals. Thus, they have accumulated knowledge and experience in the fine art and science of horse breeding. Whether destriers or coursers, the horses of these people are renowned for their superiority, and being able to ride is considered a basic necessity.

THE FEAST OF THE TRIBE - Derived from the old Reinmaren "Fest des Stammes", the Feast of the Tribe is a rekindled tradition in which warriors, together with other residents of the realm, are gathered by their liege every few years in order to have a collective feast of revelry. For approximately four years, each man in Minitz prepares for the feast by cultivating and herding, so that they have something to offer for the feast. Many artisans bring fine cheese and wine, herders and hunters bring various roasts, farmers bring their grain, beer and eggs, and each man enjoys the fruits of their collective work. During the feast, other than contributing to the table, each man brings forth a gift, and these gifts are gathered before the Chieftain and the Duke, who distribute the gifts to random individuals.

BREAD, BEER AND HEARTThroughout both Proto-Reinmaren tribes as well as in the late County of Fraimark, the Reinmaren have always put great value in honoring and showing hospitality to guests, a tradition closely related to the upholding of the Shwur. Upon visitation to a Minitzian household, a guest can expect to be treated similarly to royalty. They are cared for at all times, delicious food is cooked and brought onto the table upon the arrival of guests, be they announced or not, and any accommodation is offered with a caring, welcoming heart from the members of the household. Usually, this is presented in the form of Bear, Beer and Heart. Heart in this context refers to the heart-to-heart hospitality found by the visiting guests. In Proto-Reinmaren folklore, it was even said that the patriarch of a house would remain loyal to and protect their guests, even if it meant putting their own family in danger.

DER SCHWUR - An important part of the Reinmaren culture, surviving to the modern day, the Shwur, translated from Waldenian, closely translates to the word of honour, or as it was used in a better context in Old Reinmaren, Besa. The Schwur could be found in most of the life of the tribal Reinmaren, it was the word that binded him to his honor, to his very own being. A similar concept finds its way utilized and practiced within the Freimarkish realm, for every resident within the realm is held accountable based on his word of oath, and breaking it is not only frowned upon, but may even lead to further consequences by the individual’s fellow peers.

THE BRANDTIAN DUEL - First displayed by Duke Brandt while he was still heir to the Minitzian throne, what Minitzers call the “Right by Strength” is a tradition of proving one’s worth and righteousness through fair battle against two parties. This is how the second Duke of Minitz ascended the throne, when the then-Baron Brandt challenged his own father, Leon I in a duel for the throne, which he won, and became Duke of Minitz. Thus, the tribesmen and women of Minitz have developed a continuity of such practice, and are most eager not only to prove themselves through fair battles, but may also sometimes solve disputes through such.

HERALDIC TRADITIONS - Throughout the eons, the tribal sons and daughters of Theoderic and Gelimar learned to adapt to the modern feudal societies where they found themselves. During this transitioning period, the tribesmen, many of whom assumed the roles of battle bards and banner bearers in war, found fascination in the feudal practices of Heraldry. They learned of this art, and taught their children its ways, finding within it a way of self expression and identification of those amongst them. Since then, the Reinmaren have fostered many Heralds, such as Leopold, Albrecht, or the late Duke Leon of Minitz. The Duke made it also one of his missions to foster the heraldic tradition within the Duchy, personally designing most of the Duchy’s armorial during his reign.

REINMAREN FAITH

In the Duchy of Minitz, nestled among the rolling hills and verdant forests, the people of the tribes devote their faith to Canonism. They believe in the word of the Prophets and the Lord God, and follow the teachings of the High Pontiff, who, alongside the Bishop of Gelimar holds sway over their religious practices. For the Reinmaren men of Minitz, Canonism is not just a religion, but a way of life, dictating every aspect of their existence.

However, this devotion to Canonism also often makes them dismissive of those who did not share their beliefs. The Minitz people look upon elves as outsiders, who they believe to be atheistic and holding onto beliefs that are not in line with the teachings of Canonism. They view the long-eared, graceful creatures with suspicion and mistrust, believing them to be untrustworthy and lacking in moral fiber.

Magicians of voidal or Aengulic nature are also looked down upon by the people of Minitz, as they see them as sinful and morally corrupt. The tribesmen, having inherited the superstition of their forefathers, believe earnestly that the power wielded by the magicians was not a gift from the Divine but rather an unnatural force, which was obtained through dark means. Historically, to the Minitz people, magicians have been a blight upon their society, organizing raids, kidnappings and various other affairs of bloody nature, which caused their kind to be shunned, unless proven virtuous.

Despite their dismissive attitude towards elves and magicians, the people of Minitz are not unkind or cruel. They believe in the inherent goodness of humanity, and their faith encourages them to be charitable and compassionate towards those in need. They see themselves, alongside the rest of the sons of Horen as protectors of the true faith and believe that their actions were necessary to preserve the sanctity of Canonism within their lands.

In the end, the people of Minitz are a reflection of their faith, devout and unyielding in their beliefs. They were a people who hold steadfast in their convictions and customs, and thus are willing to defend their faith against any threat. Though they are dismissive of those who did not share their beliefs, they are not without compassion, and their actions were always guided by their devotion to the Holy Church.

A noble Minitzer in his Reinmaren attire, a Chieftain with his wife, and a Ritter of Saint Tylos.

Built upon the Diarchy of old and new, tribalism and feudalism, the Minitzian society is a reflection of this exact tradition. A realm of unity and harmony between these two lifestyles, the Duchy of Minitz promotes two types of societies, both living in the same realm, both living in harmony with one another.

Whilst originally, during the genesis of Minitz, the two “societies” were kept in separation to one another, it was during the reign of Duke Leon that a new system was put in place, wherein an official social hierarchy of Minitz was established. This new system merged both the tribal and feudal aspects of the Reinmaren society, putting emphasis and importance upon the common people who adopt the tribal ways of the Reinmaren.

THE BURGHER

The burgher class, consisting of travelers and newcomers to Minitz, forms the majority of the Duchy's population. These individuals may not yet have fully adopted the ways of the Reinmaren, but they have chosen to make Minitz their home.

Despite not being part of the Reinmaren tribe, burghers are still free to live and work within the borders of Minitz. They are not oppressed or discriminated against, but neither do they enjoy any notable privileges or benefits.

In the eyes of the Reinmaren, anyone who has not undergone the Trial of Blood is considered a burgher, regardless of their background or nationality. However, this does not mean that the burghers are looked down upon. On the contrary, many Reinmaren respect the burghers for their willingness to embrace a new way of life and contribute to the growth and prosperity of Minitz.

The Burgers often undertake labor tasks such as farming, artisanry, shopkeeping and animal husbandry, providing their services in the name of Minitz, in exchange for the protection of the tribe and the mark of the Duke.

However, the Burgers are forbidden from living in the tribelands of Hussen. They must live inside the walls of the city of Neu Brandthof.

THE TRIBESMEN

Those who successfully complete the Ritual of Blood, whether it be an outlander or a trueborn Reinmaren are considered oathed tribesmen of Minitz, and they are welcomed with open arms into the tribes. They are no longer outsiders but part of the tribe, bound now not only by oath and ideal, but also through the blood which they now share with the Chief of the Reinmaren themselves.

As a newly-oathed tribesman, the tribesman has the opportunity to join one of the established noble tribes of Minitz. Be they of great ambition and seeking the formation of their own legacy, they may one day found their own noble tribe To do so, they must first prove themselves worthy by upholding their oath and serving the Duchy. Once they have demonstrated their worthiness, they may establish their own tribe and carry on the legacy of the Reinmaren.

For the Tribesmen of Minitz, the Trial of Blood is just the beginning of their journey. As they integrate into the community and learn more about the Reinmaren way of life, they have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the tribe and the Duchy as a whole. With hard work and dedication, they too can become respected members of the community, upholding the values of their oath and serving the people of Minitz with honor and distinction.

As they are of the ilk of Theoderic and the Reinmaren, the Tribesmen may sit in the Moot, vote on matters concerning the polity and the Grand Kanun, and live outside of the walls, in the tribelands of Hussen.

THE WARRIORS

In the heart of the Duchy of Minitz, there exists a band of tribal warriors that strike fear in the hearts of their enemies and command respect from the wider populace. These mighty warriors are handpicked from among the oathed tribesmen of Minitz, chosen for their strength, courage, and unwavering loyalty to their land and their people, and inducted to the Warband of Theoderic.

From the moment they don their armor and raise their weapons, these warriors embody the spirit of their Duchy. Their duty is not merely to protect the Duke, but to defend the very essence of Minitz - its burgers, its towns, its laws, and its honor. They are the sword and shield of the duchy, always ready to lay down their lives in the name of their land and law.

With fierce determination and unbreakable resolve, the warriors of Minitz charge into battle, their battle cries echoing across the land. Their swords clash with those of their enemies, their shields deflecting blows that would shatter lesser men. Through the dust and smoke of war, they fight on, never wavering, never faltering.

They are the guardians of law and order, ensuring that justice is upheld and the people of Minitz are safe from harm. They are the watchful eyes that patrol the streets, ever vigilant for any threat that may arise. Thus, bearing this great responsibility, the Warrior enjoys a variety of privileges, going from reduced tax obligations to the right to bear arms and enforce the law.

THE GEEHRTE & HOCHGEEHRTE

In the realm of Reinmaren, there are two prestigious ranks known as the "Ranks of Prestige" - the Geehrte (Honored) and the Hochgeehrte (Highly Honored). These titles are awarded directly by the Lord Duke to those who have shown great effort in upholding the values of Reinmaren and the law of the Kanun.

The Geehrtes and Hochgeehrtes are held in high regard by the common tribesmen of the realm. Their Schwur, or oath, is considered of greater importance in the Moot, and their status grants them special privileges. They pay less taxes, earn the right to create their own tribes or otherwise bring additional benefits to their Tribes, should they belong to one.

To earn such a prestigious rank, one must demonstrate unwavering dedication and effort in the preservation of Reinmaren values and the law of the Kanun. Only those who have proven themselves to be true exemplars of honor, loyalty, and bravery are considered for such an honor.

Once bestowed with the title of Geehrte or Hochgeehrte, the individual is considered a veteran of Minitz. Much like the Ritters, they are seen as a shining example of what it means to be a true warrior of Reinmaren, and their deeds are remembered and celebrated for generations to come.

For the Geehrtes and Hochgeehrtes, their honor is not just a title - it is a way of life.

THE RITTER

In this land of chivalry and valor, there exists a figure of unwavering dedication, a symbol of honor and righteousness. This figure is known as the knight, or in the Waldenic tongue, the ‘Ritter’. They represent in Minitz an embodiment of all that is good and just.

The Ritters of Saint Tylos are the Knights of Minitz. Any oathed tribesman of Minitz, who may wish to take the path of the squire may be mentored under a Ritter of Saint Tylos, and undergo the trials of the knights. If they are successful and considered to be worthy, they are oathed Ritters, and act as retainers of the Ducal family, law-enforcers alongside the Bailiff, and representatives of chivalry and the Reinmaren values.

Thus, the Ritter, through exceptional and diligent service may style himself with the honorific of “Gentry” of the realm, a rank of high prestige. The Ritters may further have their own heraldry.

THE NOBLE TRIBESMEN

In the Duchy of Minitz, there are men of noble rank known as the Chieftains. These men have been bestowed with the prestigious title of ‘Hochgeehrte’, which commands respect from all those Reinmaren who hear it.

To earn the honorific title of Chieftain, a tribesman must first gather a following of fellow tribesmen who pledge to join the tribe of their chosen Chieftain-to-be. The tribesman must then display his worthiness by demonstrating his leadership qualities and unwavering loyalty to his people.

If a man is deemed worthy by the Duke himself, he is chosen to wear the Chieftain’s cap, and he swears fealty to the Duke and the Duchy in the name of all his tribe. This is a great honor, and the Chieftain-to-be may accept it with pride and humility.

Once a tribesman becomes a Chieftain, he is entrusted with maintaining the noble heritage of his tribe. He manages parcels of land in the Duke’s name, bearing his own banners and heraldry. This newfound noble rank also extends to his family, and they are expected to uphold the honor of their Chieftain’s name.

As a Chieftain, the tribesman is not only a leader, but a representative of his tribe and the Duchy of Minitz. He must be just, honorable, and brave in all his actions, setting an example for all those who follow him. The Chieftains of Minitz are the backbone of the Duchy, and their dedication and loyalty to their land and people are the very essence of what it means to be a true warrior of Minitz.

Founded from the roots of the olden Freimarkish warriors dubbed Sons of Saint Tylos by Count Ernst, the Order of Saint Tylos the Stallion of Reinmar is a collection of the most gallant and virtuous Reinmaren tribesmen of Minitz. Founded by Duke Leon I of Minitz, the Knights of this order don the name of the Ritter as their own, holding their Waldenic roots and their Reinmaren values tight to heart.

After many years of squireship and continuous showing of dedication and loyalty to the Duchy and her Duke, the newly oathed Ritter not only work as the protectors of the Ducal House of Barclay, but also as law keepers of the realm. It is the upholding of the Reinmaren values, such as Diligence, Faith, Justice, et cetera, which dictate those worthy of joining the Ritter of Saint Tylos. It is these same ideals scribed within the Grand Kanun which make them worthy of understanding and interpreting its laws and justice.

The Ritter’s bravery on the battlefield is legendary, channeled through an unwavering loyalty to the Duchy and the Duke. Their ability to inspire their fellow soldiers is unparalleled, having been chosen from among the worthiest warriors of the Reinmaren.

Thusly, those who wish to test their mettle, and find themselves worthy of upholding both the values and law of the Reinmaren may contact the Herrenmeister of the Order, currently Sir Yvian Galken (IGN: Sarven343: Sarven#9722). THEODERIC’S WARBAND

A land and a peoples of glory, valor, and hardy upbringings, many of the Reinmaren sons and daughters of Minitz take the oaths of Theoderic, and join amongst the ranks of the Theoderican warriors, who make up the main standing retinue of Minitz.

This is the backbone which upkeeps the militaristic traditions amongst the tribesmen, which brings them together in a common goal of upholding their Reinmaren freedom and protecting their Fatherland. The Warband, as many call it simply, is as old as Minitz itself, for through its founding by Warchiefs Leon and Dietrich Barclay, was Minitz conceived and grown.

Thus, to this day and age the Warband continues to grow and prosper, welcoming many new Reinmaren amongst its Warriors, and even more newcomer outlanders amongst its Unblooded ranks. It is through their service as Unblooded of the Warband that the outlanders of Minitz prove their mettle and dedication to the Duchy. They usually then take the Ritual of Blood to become tribesmen, and further the Theoderican oath to be recognized as strong Warriors worthy of praise.

Those who wish to join amongst the ranks of Theoderic’s fighters may speak to the Warband’s Warchief, currently Robert Stroheim (IGN: TheShadowMatrix; Discord: TheShadowMatrix#6180) Those who seek more knowledge, may refer to the full document of the Warband:

 THE GRAND KANUN OF MINITZ

_VOa7dPXZDmy7_jNKP5XdU5pleOz4q-jEewDDoRptzgfkOjZ5BLSwScIHC9G-vqfXCHSRh2HV6DxZ0G9X9jIqA9Y2TPvrOzpBZZsKJuUN0-f7QRwbz9Mklt8OfrsyR_ksp-z-jMRSn8oTTZ9DIKm2-M

During the olden, dark ages of the Reinmaren people, whose tribes fought in constant war amongst one another, the absence of a common law to bind all Reinmaren became prominent. It was after the war against Theoderic and his higher chief, Gelimar, that the two high Reinmaren chieftains agreed to the writing of a common codex, not only to outline the law of the people, but also their practices and their lifestyles. This was dubbed the Kanun of Gelimar, the original writing of which has been lost to time.

The ideal and the very spirit of the Kanun, however, persisted amongst the Reinmaren nomads and wandering tribes, who amongst them appointed Lawspeakers, wise men who had learned the Kanun from their predecessors, and knew to speak it by heart. Despite the lack of written copies of the Grand Reinmaren Kanun, its laws and its practices were kept by all sons and daughters of Reinmar through their lawspeakers.

In this common day and age, within the Duchy of Minitz has a new Kanun been written, mainly so by Duke Leon I, who consulted many Lawspeakers amongst the villages of the Reinmaren, and most prominently, Lord Dietrich, whose knowledge of the Reinmaren history was said to have no bounds.

Thusly, the Grand Kanun of Minitz acts as its legal codex, through which all those who step within the Duke’s realm shall uphold, and more importantly so the Reinmaren tribesmen, who must follow its practices not only in matters of wrongdoings, but also of virtues and of traditional practices. Aiming to immerse themselves in the way of life of their ancestors, and to understand the true beauty of living the life of the stallions, of the Reinmaren.

Amongst the tribal populace of Minitz, a Lawspeaker is elected in equal vote by all tribesmen. This Lawspeaker learns and speaks the Kanun to his people, and acts as its personification, the very word of the Kanun raised in flesh. Because of this important role, the Lawspeaker is elected for life, or until retirement of old age. Those who have questions about the word and justice of the Kanun may speak to the Lawspeaker, currently Maxwell ad Larden (IGN: boarlord; Discord: boar#5647)Those who seek more knowledge, may refer to the written word of the Kanun:

Depiction of an olden Reinmaren Moot

Summoned every year or every second year, the Moot of Minitz is composed of all tribesmen and tribeswomen of the realm, who make up the “Seated” members of the Landtag. The Moot is usually led by the Lawspeaker of the Kanun or the Duke himself, and acts mainly as a lawmaking body of government.

It is only the privilege of the Lawmen, Lawspeaker, and members of the Herrenhaus to propose laws within the Moot, whilst the Seated hold the privilege to vote in support or oppose these laws. The Mayor of Neu Brandthof, elected by the Burghers from among the tribesmen of the realm to represent their class, who holds two votes in the Landtag; their personal one as a tribesman, and their Mayoral vote.

Aside from the legislative capacity of the Landtag, the Moots of Minitz have also been used to discuss other matters concerning the tribal caste of the realm as well as the Duchy as a whole. Matters of both great or minor importance may be brought up during such.
